- The Athearn Genesis 2.0 HO Scale SD60m Triclops with DCC & Sound is reviewed. Union Pacific SD60m 6218 is looked at from top to bottom and given a showcase. This is a spectacular model of the sd60m from Athearn Genesis, this is the best model of an sd60 series engine outside of any brass models available in ho scale and Athearn has really improved their locomotive detail features over the past five years and this sd60m model is incredible.

James, I've got word that Athearn will be adding another future run on the SD60M(some Triclops) series with corrected wheel trucks hardware. There will also be a first time run on the SD59MX series locomotives. As for the SD60M's, there has been rumors that some short line road names will be on those locomotives. There is a possible Watco(WAMX 6025-28) on this fourth coming run. If these rumors become true, I will order these units indeed. The Watcos' are ex-UP units with some patched up and faded UP art deco. And yes, the SD59MX series is a "Frankenstein" version of the SD60M!
I have an NS one and I love it
FYI, these have an issue with the bearing caps coming loose, some even arrived brand new in sealed boxes with caps missing. Athearn says they have NO replacements and offered no plan to. Athearn is trying to shift responsibility to the retailer & telling customers to simply return or exchange them rather than honor the Athearn warranty. So retailers will get stuck with return costs or incomplete models.
@@HybridHobby I was in contact with them today and they gave no indication of any planned resolution. They specifically said they had no parts available and would not salvage parts from units in their stock. They repeatedly told me to return it to the place of purchase for exchange or refund. I hope you’re right, but if they’ve communicated that they’re working on a solution, then they at least need to be more consistent in the response they’re giving.

Aaannd, I got it. And back in the box, returning this piece of S.
Jolting, Huming, Gear/Motor noises, out of sync decoder, very weak bell sounds, poor lightning (eve flickering when moving), wheel caps are falling, very stupid "delicate" details that fell off when only "looking" at it, poor painting (faded paint), lots of stupid derailments like no other, limited radius couplers, ect.
STAY AWAY folks.

This is going to be a very random comment, but those are some good looking piggybacks in front of you. What make are they like the TTX one.
Those bearing caps.... I had two come off in 5 minutes and the front trucks were slightly twisted.. Great looking and running model otherwise..

Old school 🎒 like in the 90s I want to buy a new locomotive can't afford it. Just have 2 locomotives T4 CN and CSX C40-8 blue and gray with sounds n NS locomotive being repaired it's n very bad shape need trucks frames n sound board don't have any money to buy one for GE C44 Athearn. The lighting (head and ditch) on the units is absolute rubbish. Going to have to replace the lighting, pretty pissed off for a supposedly premium models. Genesis 2.0, not worth it IMO.
