BMW Z4 Advisory! Do this if you own a 2003-2009 Z4

- I have owned 2 of these cars, a 2003 X years ago, and this 2004.
You MUST! drill holes in the trunk battery / amp compartment!
Cleaning the drains from below WILL NOT clean out all the leaves, twigs, etc. It will just re-clog after enough rainfall. And honestly, who cleans their drains every 6 months?
My 2003 had a dead amp, causing both rear subwoofers to not work, with clogged roof drains, parking this car on steep hills caused the water to go to the trunk and fill it.
My 2004 rear subwoofer started chattering the other day, and sure enough, the rear trunk was full 1cm with water. (My hydraulic roof motor failed 1 month ago, so it was actually replaced, and the area cleaned) These cars trunks will fill even if your roof motor pits are clean.
Unfortunately this is a VERY common problem listed online that subwoofers do not work, and failed roof motors every x years.
Roof motor replacement is 2500-4500$
Amp replacement is 1500$ Развлечения

Instead of doing this just make sure that you clean your drain holes every year and you will never get roof motor or amplifier issues. I do this with my 2003 Z4 and it's totally perfect.
imagine now me drilling wholes under my battery and having to go through a puddle of water....LOL
now that's the kinda shit I wanna know and no annoying muzak. cheers
your literally a life savor
Very helpful, thank you. I jus got water exactly how you described snd I'm having trouble with the mid ranges and tweets and lots of noise. I'm taking it out and getting it cleaned with alcohol and pressurized air. Wish me luck.
I don’t know if it’s something that’s not well known in the US, but in the U.K. we tend to move the roof motor to the boot which stops the bottleneck by the drain holes. Saves the motor and your amp and it takes about an hour if you’ve got the right technique. Took me ages longer, but I was shit at it!
I can’t get the motor housing off! It’s so hard 😂
Thanks bro huge help
Just take a rubber plug of the drain is all!
Did mine
Exactly!
Won’t derby get inside ?
Yep that's right... drill a few holes... not sure why BMW didn't?
Engineers are not service mechanics
They didnt think the drains would ever clog, or the car would ever be parked on a steep hill in rain
I was unlucky enough where the clogging u mentioned caused the motor operating the rooftop to rust. Cost me $1200 to get a new one installed, and they drilled holes to avoid reflooding. Been meaning to write to BMW and ask for some sort of compensation, or hv their engineer fired!! Seems like a flaw in the design to me!! It’s barely been used and kept in a garage, not sure how it would get clogged so easily. 😠
Does not take much, one day in the rain, and the motor will sit enflooded for a week. Once it dries up, everything would be rusted.
The drain holes are about 1/2" in size. All it takes is a single leaf to sit over it.
You wownt get any compensation, unless there was 10000 people with a class action suit, and even then, its a waste of time.
This type of car needs a garage, can't have it sitting outside
Hey there just wondering where you got that hitch setup I've been looking for one but haven't had any luck :/
Here in canada it was ordered in through Uhaul, about 250$CAD
@@MaksimIzer do you know if there's a part number on it?
@@hpichardo24 sold the car, best to call uhaul
My Z4 is mostly parked outside and often must deal with heavy rain and no water in the acu & amp..
Parked on a flat surface, with no structural damage, or clogged drains, yes
Parked nose up, especially on a steep hill, 100% will fill your trunk
Clogged draings, will also fill fhe trunk
@@MaksimIzer thanks... but i have another problem... i have micro hole in 1st layer of roof :( what to do? I've read to use stormsure?
@@PerfectBeast6 no idea honestly, never had to repair a roof
I Replaced the amp Today but only one speak sound very low and static / cracking noise.
Any ideas what it could be? Or the speakers got damaged since the previous amp was soaked in water
Please help
Its possible that you damaged the speakers, but unlikely all of them.
If you bought a used amp, it might be faulty.
The only way to test, is to test each speaker individually, then hook up entire system.
Easiest solution is to borrow a working Z4 amp.
MaksimIzer Thank you !
Do not drill any holes!!!! Issue is at back light 💡 bro
hy, what type of Bike holder it is? thx
Uhaul brand, about 250$cad installed
How many holes did you drill?
All you need is 1, 1/2" hole
Probably 8

Id stay away from drilling holes it will cause exhaust fumes to wnter the vehicle... there has to be another way
The exhaust pipe does not face under the battery, it comes out the rear of the car
You breathe more gas fumes sitting in traffic than this could ever cause
Drilling holes through the floor is not fixing the problem. If your bath tub leaked, would you punch a hole through your floor??
Unfortunately your comparisons are useless
The trunk does not leak, the trunk fills up with water due to an engineering flaw, and noone is going to pay 1500$ every 6 months to properly remove the top, and clean the drains
@@MaksimIzer clearing the drains is a 5 minute job.
I would bet 90% of z4 owners have never cleaned, or even heard of cleaning these drains
Even if you do "clean it" from below, i would bet it would just re-clog after a week, its impossible to get everything out unless the roof is removed, i would know, ive done it
@@MaksimIzer I would bet 90% of viewers would see the error in your video. That's the actions of someone who doesn't care and has given up. And then to post a video on YT like you've discovered the miracle cure for it, smh.
Take that ridiculous scaffolding off it! That's insulting... ! It's a sports car!
