Does a flagship phone need a telephoto lens?
Yes!
I would argue a telephoto is more necessary than an ultrawide in my opinion.
@@KelvinBastow yeah, the distortion with an Ultra Wide lens can make it difficult to manage framing singlehandedly.

I don't mind the comparisons between the flagships and the Nothing Phone (2), but I wish most of the video focused on comparing phones of the same price.
Exactly my thought 😅. Here in India, we are getting OnePlus 11r 5k cheaper with almost same specs bundled with a charger only missing glyph and wireless charging. The video was great but I would have liked the comparison with pixel 7/7a, iPhone 14 and OnePlus 11/11r..
@@aritrasaha914you get iqoo Neo 7 pro much cheaper than 11r. Those are cheaper phones. For a much finished product in terms of premium appeal there will be a much higher premium.

Two days with Phone(2) and I'm loving it. I just moved the SIM card from my Pixel to the Phone(2) today.
I used to be a Pixel 7 user myself and I switched to the nothing phone 2 and I have been very pleased with the phone and the camera
4:27 - "You lose the compression of an image, the most important part about a telephoto lens, when you simply crop a sensor " - how does that make any sense? You only lose resolution by cropping, the compression (close and distant things appearing similar size) is the same. The field of view is the same. Using tele lens vs cropping a wider image from the same position to achieve the same zoom will result in an identical FoV.
As soon as I heard her say it I scrolled down to see if there is already a comment mentioning it - thank you for posting that comment :D Being precise here really matters imo! Because saying something like "without the dedicated tele camera you loose compression" is exactly what companies would tell everyone as hype marketing to get you to buy the most expensive product.

The 50 megapixel photos of the Nothing Phone look SO MUCH BETTER than the 48 megapixel photos of the iPhone!
Would recommend trying the Vivo X90 series versus Pixel for a night mode showdown. Currently own a vivo X80 Pro that's crushing every other flagship in night mode even a year later.
Same here, prefer notification light than ringtone.
Miss the day where we can set different colour of light for different app.
Sadly, I think Sony is the only company who still retains this feature.
There's apps for it, not a true light but still have a dot for your liking

Super love this Becca's review on phone cameras. Probably the most interesting analysis on this phone aspect in the inter webs.
Hi Becca, solid review and opinions, but you do NOT lose lens compression when you crop in a photo: even the images you compared show the same exact lens compression!
It's the overall quality that suffers, since it's just a strong crop of an image from a standard/wide angle lens with some algorithm to improve the thing (and in bigger sensors, you also "lose bokeh" but that's a whole other chapter!)
Right there with ya, Becca! When Samsung removed the blue notification light, I almost quit the brand. (But the 10x optical zoom got me back, and fast)
its abit finicky and probably dont work at all. but if you can find a version of G Cam App, you can level up the lowlight picts using the night mode
Phone 2’s photos look better. They look like “real” camera photos rather than phone cameras in that that have more visible contrast and details.

finally, a review that STARTS with video comparisons. It might just be me, but video quality is far more important to me, and reviews tend to overshadow the video + mic quality and focus on photo comparisons. Great video

Excellent comparison video. I am planning to buy the Nothing phone 2. Cameras are priority but I love the fact that they are running on stock android. I love using stock android phones.
I like the glyphs but realistically keeping my phone face down would just never happen and once you wireless charge it’s hard to go back to cables

What even is the point of a 50MP mode or even a 50MP sensor to begin with when - in comparison - it looks nowhere near of what 50MP should look like (on a phone)

the fact that Nothing phone (2) gets to be compared with the 1000 dollars legends tells everything, while other 600 dollar phones get compared to you know 600 dollar phones 😂 I own phone (1) and it sometimes takes better photos compared to my friends 12 pro max, phone 2 is much better and that's more than enough for most of the people, just compare this phone to the regular iphone 14, nothing has better battery and charger, it has better 12hz LTPO display (i think slightly brighter not sure tho let me know if I'm mistaken), it has reverse wireless charging and usb C, iphone 14 is actually a really good phone but this one is better for the price, I only wish Nothing had better water resistance and slightly better haptics

the camera quality off my Nothing phone 1 is DEFINITELY better than that of my Galaxy s21 ultra.
in fact, i love using the Nothing phone 1 way more in general.

OMFG! I honestly think the Nothing Phone is way better than both the IPhone and Samsung… At less than half the price… Coming from a small start up company… That’s just crazy. At least in my opinion.

you need compare the phone with the same level (catagory )of competition
I think the real story here is not so much how good the Nothing's photos are (and they are), but how bad the iPhone 14 Pro's are. I went from a 12 Pro to a 14 Pro, and I've spent the last year being mad that my wife's 13 Pro takes better looking pictures. Apple's image processing is simply not yet dialed in to the new hardware in the way it was for the old 12 MP sensor.
It's been a massive disappointment tbh. If I wasn't such a fan of the dynamic island implementation and a longtime notch hater, I would have swapped it for a 13 Pro.

iphone if you can take the wall garden in daily life. iOS is good and third party apps work great.
For Android if pixel had a good modem then I would recommend this over nothing. Pixel software is great, nothing is anywhere around it.

when you think about it the phone 2 still wins big time because of one thing: the price.
the 14pro and the others are not in the same category of price, yes the phone 2 is a flagship but not the same budget, and thus the comparaison is in its favor.
To many reviews forget this point... but it is important because some people will drink those words.
you cannot compare an things that are not the same value / features and expect the result to speak scientific truth.

i don't understand why verge compare a new company phone brand beside iPhone, samsung and pixel who clearly has playing and leading the smartphone game for years. even tho Nothing's prices increases, they should compare this with like iPhone 13 / 14, samsung a54 and regular pixel 7. it's unfair
The point of the test is to show how a cheaper phone can compare against something twice it’s price and get almost equal pleasing results
Nothing phone (2) photos are blurry and over processed, have to admire it after half a year of use.
And there is huuuge topic on Nothing community forum about this, with nothing team completerely ignoring it.

You don’t mention video which is much important than photo. If it doesn’t produce good video compared to the iPhone then this comparison is not valid.
If you want good video go for an iPhone. I wouldn’t say video is more important than photographic stills. A subjective comment .

I think calling its price "competetive" with this performance compared to flagships literally twice the price is a bit of an understatement.

Enable 48mp ProRAW in camera settings. Other than that, keep your phone steady and your lens clean and bam, photography magic!
