I actually lately learned by accident the Jagdtiger's cannon with with its better APHE shell can pen through the lower glacis of IS-3 and the Object 268, although only in a small area near the bottom. Lobbed a shell at an Object and it happened to hit that part by accident and went straight through.
Wish all heavy TDs and heavy tanks were actually like that, as in enough armor to actually stop the overwhelming majority of rounds at their BR rather than only the rounds of the vehicles with weak guns for their BR In their current state a lot of heavies are slower and weaker armed than medium tanks at the same BR, while their armor doesn't matter in particular since most enemies can still murder them frontally. Mediums might even be better at overall survivability in this case, due to being able to maneuver better to avoid enemy fire while also being smaller.
That's the thing, most of these tanks were supposed to be ambush predators, but the format of War Thunder as a game makes that not very practical. So, you have this strange situation where heavy TDs brawl need heavy armor for its tier, ok-ish maneuverability, workable gun-handling, and a potent gun; in short, you need a TD to play the role of a MBT, which by the virtue of WT's semi-realistic modelling and balancing, is nigh impossible to get right. Hence the whole lot of them simply suck ass!
The biggest issue to tank destroyers with frontal armour is that most of them cannot utilize that armour anymore due to the introduction of shells that cut through conventional armour like butter and unfavourable battle ratings. Back in (2015-2018) heavy tanks and tank destroyers with a lot of armour were the meta and everyone played them. But as more and more light tanks were added with Heat-FS and APDS/APFSDS they became slow moving easy targets instead. The T95 is a perfect example of this, it is practically useless these days, as the one thing it relies on which is armour, is useless. There is no reason at all to play it these days unless you want to put yourself at a disadvantage. It's honestly sad to see.
So then how would you kill them? They could also add a more safisticated system where the places where it’s been hit becomes weaker so of you repeatedly shoot at the same spot it can pen
regarding the complaints about planes, I like to play tanks so I haven't grinded to unlock cas at the br I play. I just dont like playing with planes as much. and I think it's more annoying to die to a plane cause usually theres nothing you can do. it's one thing to get shot in the side cause you weren't paying attention or because the enemy played smart and got to a good position. but planes are different, it feels like no matter what you do you cant get away. when you die like that despite playing well and doing your best its frustrating. nowadays I try to use spaa more and get better at that rather than just complain, but I do think it would be better if cas cost more spawn points.
Just like with tanks, planes takes experience in how the game works. And of course how the game gives an advantage to players with better crew skills and fully "modified" vehicles.
I've been playing for a bit trying to get used to the game I'm only at 5.3 just recently but I must say I'm very shocked and impressed by how well you can spot things/see things from a far especially people who are bushed up, it's almost unreal. Wish I could see things that well, you got a good pair of hunter eyes that's for sure.
This and the SU-122-54 are the sleeper hits at 6.7 Russia. The 122 doesn't have the armor, but it has a APDS and HEAT-FS round, a optical rangefinder and TWO 14.5mm machine guns.
Love facing this tank with my german boys.... I treat it as a force of nature, don't even try to go for a weakspot. I can respect fellow heavy armor enjoyer, as it should be.

They may not have the absolutely best frontal facing armor, but their overall armor score would be high. No easy trap-shots, high probability of fucked-up shot near werid angled casted turrets, and usually strong lower frontal plate is something that can't be ignored. Tanks build to take a lot not only from the front, but also from the other angles.

I had the stealth machine gun issue yesterday. IN AN OSTWIND! For like half a battle i had invisible and super-silent projectiles, idk if they were also invisible for the enemy but some planes looked a bit off-guard when i killed them
Honestly I think the previous TD in the tech tree, the SU-122-54, is more well rounded. It has a relatively quick reloading 122mm gun with a nuke APHE shell (like this with slightly less pen). But it also gets APDS (~300mm flat pen point blank) and a HEAT-FS with 400mm pen. I've ended up using the APDS as my main shell, it has good enough pen and VERY good velocity (1400 m/s!!!) that it works for most situations. Keep a couple HEAT-FS in reserve. It gets a commanders AND a co-ax 14.5mm MG, and goes slightly faster. It has less armor than the Obj 268, but the larger shell variety makes it more versatile IMO.
but the obj 268 can stop british 105mm APDS to its cheeks, and since british mains think they cna pen anything with their gun, theyll be suprised it doesnt pen... and i had a match with the 268 where i was being shot at by multiple centurions mk10s and none of them thought that the 268 had this much armor... (i was hulldown and at 1km)
This is one of the reasons that I am grinding the Russian tree, I hate facing them but as with most tanks that you hate facing, you will probably love playing it.
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO PLAYS THESE TANKS WITH APHE... YOU ARE A GODSEND.... ISU-152 and SU-152 use the same APHE round except its slower... and since its 152mm the overmatch is massive (better angled pen) and pens jumbo up to 3km... and the OBJ268 APHE with its increased velocity can pen jumbo at 5km at 60 DEGREE ANGLE... which is just ridicilous... and also it can pen tiger 2 UFP but only at like super close range (50m) and you must be straight on without any angle.. and even then its roughly 50% chance to pen.. but it shows the true power of the APHE round

I have a problem with attacker/bomber and fighter being seperate rp costs so you can bring out both fairly cheaply. Also the costs for planes should be higher. Because you can spawn with a do 335 b-2 after just capturing an objective.
We have light tanks that ignore armor with HEATFS and APFSDS, to which there isn't really a counter. Planes in GRB just further amplify something already present as an "Equalizer", but unlike light tanks, you need to use a specific vehicle to deal with planes reliably in a game mode that's fought by ground forces. Playing SPAA and denying planes kills is probably the most euphoric thing in War thunder because of how easy it is to determine the outcome of battles when the enemy is denied air.
Odd, you play RB ground forces before planes were a thing? It was pretty balanced. Also, if you put in the time to learn the maps and learn the vehicles you got rewarded with good battles especially if you got good players on the other team. After planes became a thing it was a completely different game. Maybe it's not as bad now as it was then, but after years of playing and loving RB tanks it completely sucked the fun out of it. Maybe it's because I experienced a time before planes and it was sssssooooo good. O well... all good things come to an end...

And no i dont "have planes" im not going to grind for 100+ fucking hours for each nation just so i can being fucking planes into the mode where i want to drive a tank.

So, at 6:32... how the heck did you spot anything there? It could just be RUclips compression, but I watched that three times in 1440p and saw absolutely nothing. Absolutely wild spotting. Is that just a common spawn location you were checking?
its 200mm at an impact angle of 55°. Tiger 2 has 237mm pen at 0° and about 70mm at 60° ... tiger isnt going through that... same with the T34.. it cant go through
Go ahead and try this combo out next time you want a big gun on a KV2. Get the KV2-Zis6 (basically a kv2 with a 107mm gun on it, and take out the SU-8 with the heaviest load out.
the OBJ 168 is not based on an IS 3 hull, but a T10, its easy to see, first sign : the frontal armor of the hull, not the same thickness as an IS 3, but the same as a T10; The rear wich is more looking like an IS 6 than an IS 3, and the 2 boxes is the sign of a T 10M, at least, the back speed, its only 10 km /H , so the SI 3 is 14.

The only reason I complain about planes is cause I just wanna play tank v tank. Planes get their own mode where they dont have a bunch of guys in aa tanks shooting them doen all match so why cant we have a mode where people dont get bombed all the time.

Odd, I like your videos, but just because others have a different opinion than you about CAS (and a fair few recently it seems) does not make them "Crying". Everyone's entitled to an opinion, yours is no more important than any other. I agree CAS should be an "equaliser", and would be happy if that were the case, but it's not. It's the decider, the overwhelming tool in the game. Even heavy, near impossible to pen tanks can only be used in one part of the map, planes have access to it all within seconds. Not many pilots show your... umm.. "scruples"? and refrain from revenge kills, spawn bombing or suicide attacks. Those three are the meta for CAS. As for suicide attacking, which is so prevalent, surely that shows that the spawn cost is so cheap that people don't care about it's cost.
@@Dan86130 im fairly certain i saw that it was supposed to have a name which was planned, but in WT they kept the Objekt number because it wasnt accepted into service. It was fully built and functional, the soviets were just deciding whether to spend their resources on T-10's only or a few T-10's and a few 268's

As someone who regularly takes out planes, the amount of times i die right away makes up for any easy kills I get.

I love this tank and the Su-122 with the 2 14.5mm's. They catch prop aircraft by surprise with how easily they will destroy them.

I love the 268! One of my favorite tanks to play. You can reliably bounce a lot of big guns around the BR. Its super fun

It's a t-10m hull, not is-3. Is-3 based sturmpanzer is called "Object 704", a completely different beast
the 14.5 KPVT is very useful for tracking enemies when they are advancing while you reload.

And sniped a little slit infront of the drivers-hatch from 1200 meters away.

Its a t10 chassi and engine and because of this i find that its too fast and ill push up too far with no backup and die.

The only reason I complain about planes is cause I just wanna play tank v tank. Planes get their own mode where they dont have a bunch of guys in aa tanks shooting them doen all match so why cant we have a mode where people dont get bombed all the time.

Not sure if you noticed it but your machine gun was reloading (I believe) when it had the loading reticle when you switched to your machine gun.

if u take HE in this thing, it turns into a god, it kills anything, just like kv2, but 2 times faster cuz half reload
use the ISU-152 or SU-152 , it uses the same ammo but its 2 BR's lower than the obj 268

Odd, I like your videos, but just because others have a different opinion than you about CAS (and a fair few recently it seems) does not make them "Crying". Everyone's entitled to an opinion, yours is no more important than any other.
I agree CAS should be an "equaliser", and would be happy if that were the case, but it's not. It's the decider, the overwhelming tool in the game. Even heavy, near impossible to pen tanks can only be used in one part of the map, planes have access to it all within seconds. Not many pilots show your... umm.. "scruples"? and refrain from revenge kills, spawn bombing or suicide attacks. Those three are the meta for CAS.
As for suicide attacking, which is so prevalent, surely that shows that the spawn cost is so cheap that people don't care about it's cost.

@@Dan86130 im fairly certain i saw that it was supposed to have a name which was planned, but in WT they kept the Objekt number because it wasnt accepted into service.
It was fully built and functional, the soviets were just deciding whether to spend their resources on T-10's only or a few T-10's and a few 268's
