That might be because Acrobatic Gymnastics is still not an Olympic sport. Eventhough a lot of other gymnastic disciplines are like trampoline and artistic gymnastics.
@fairy wishes There's always one. 🙄 To compete at senior level they have to be over 14. Most gymnasts retire early 20s. In these cases, the relationships are like brother-sister. @@elephantsradorable7689 One reason (of MANY!) I really wish acro had gone more mainstream is because it has more options for all body sizes. It's actually surprising to me that STILL, that hasn't given it the last nudge into the public eye & created more support for it. When I coached artistic, I had 10 year olds beginning to grow who were supposed to wear elastic waistbands over their leotards at training to 'make them conscious of their abs & posture' - i.e. to make them aware they had a bit of puppy fat and it wasn't acceptable. If they started to develop at an early age, they did have a future in the sport as elite gymnasts - and they knew this at 10, 11, 12. It's AWFUL. When I competed at national level, it was in acro. If a 10 year old started showing signs she (or he) was going to grow 'too big' (per artistic standards), they'd simply be given different partners - maybe start training early as a base, or as a middle for a trio. That applied to every body shape from the beginning - mixed pairs tops tend to be a bit taller & very slim. Trio bases & middles 'stocky' - by gymnastics standards (as an older teen, I was about a size 4, 115ish-lbs & solid muscle (5'1). 'Stocky'. Definitely not artistic size. Also not the build of a top, but that was never a 'thing'.) Acro doesn't work without every body type. With men, smaller, skinnier built guys work better in a men's group (of 4) or the top of a men's pair - although shorter & stockier is more typical. Women's pairs do all the same kind of moves in this video too - for a girl who loves gymnastics, but is 'too big', she makes an AMAZING WP base. There's no body shaming, no weighing in gyms (yup, they do that) - everyone has their ideal position. And (almost) any shape or size can train hard, build (SOLID) muscle and develop skills. Then, there are people who never make it to elite levels - in artistic, there isn't really anywhere to go; in acro, some people have limits, they know it - especially as they get older - but love the sport. Coaches tend to 'use them' as bases to bring on new tops from lower levels, work with them for a few years and then, depending how the top develops (skill & shape), they move on, the cycle starts over. Everyone gets to stay involved, and it's definitely one hell of a workout. I'll get off my soapbox now, but having been in both worlds, I WISH more people would talk about that aspect of it. (And for anyone interested, there are acro clubs all over the US. If you're moving away from artistic, but still want to compete and stay in the sport, this is an option.) 🙃

It's amazing how long certain things have been done and are now considered so "new!" This couple were really good!
