What's the Most Powerful Move in Martial Arts?

"Hey Jamie, pull up that kick again. I gotta see how Sensei Seth did that." Joe Rogan
I’d die
@@SenseiSeth After seeing how much more power the elbow strikes generates than power punches I agree to the 12-6 elbow on a grounded opponent.
@@SenseiSeth Most powerful move ≠ strongest strike. The most powerful move is the double-leg takedown. #1 takedown in MMA. 😉
Physics, man. I'm about exactly Joe's size. Smoll
Great job, Sensei Seth. You used your whole shit.
@@hawaiijim No way, dude. The judo throw that the wrestling hiptoss is taken from is way stronger
Seth there's an important point about your test versus Joe Rogan:
Joe's impact device is rigidly mounted to an unmoving surface. That means 100% of the force goes into the system, and none of it is lost moving the device around.
Seth is testing it duct taped to a punching bag and a grappling dummy, both are going to give when you hit them, both the bag moving and the sand compressing, and that giving is bleeding off your impact and lowering the numbers on the screen. That definitely contributes to your ground strikes being noticably higher. The device can't sink through the ground so it's registering 100% of the impact.
If I was gonna test it on a bag I'd use a water bag over a sand bag. Water doesn't compress. You'll still lose some impact to water displacement (the bag won't be full to the brim with water) but you won't get the crushing force loss of the sand which will displace. I could be wrong on that, but it would be interesting to try both and see.
Came here to point out this difference. Makes that roundhouse even more impressive. Although Seth is a lot bigger than Rogan
@@Namdrahsirhc I'm not against Seth or anything. I too think it's cool that his roundhouse is stronger. I'm just saying next time he tests it he did securely mount that thing for a more accurate comparison to rogans setup.
I was going to point out the exact same thing. Attach the cube to a rigid wall. All the power goes to the cube. I think it also matters at which angle you hit the sensors inside the cube. Newertheless, force depends on mass and acceleration, so the heaviest strikes come with using your bodyweight.
Or just secure the device to a rigid metal pole and replicate the conditions under which Joe set his record.
I was gonna write something similar, but you got this Tyler! Lol
That last roundhouse was also the only kick where your partner wasn’t pulling the bag backwards as your leg made contact. Rogan kicked against a static wall. The slight movement allowed by the hanging bag can either make your hit stronger or weaker than it actually was.
many people usually moves when they see a kick or a punch, so maybe it is not that realistic make it with a static object.
Rogan was also wearing Jeans and I doubt he was as warmed up as Seth.
@@maxisalas5249 It's not about being realistic, it's about measuring power consistently to maximize efficiency of a strike. You can hit a moving bag or spar normally to get realism.
@@Deoslatt Your comment is "Dicey Dicey" like the gringo papi would say.
@@maxisalas5249 for testing purposes you take out the variables though L
@SenseiSeth, you would get better data from the device if you didn’t mount it to a soft squishy target. Joe Rogan had it mounted to a solid frame so that all of his power registers on the accelerometer device in the cube. That’s why the axe kick is so strong. Cube was on the floor.
Yeah for someone who is making a whole series of videos using this one piece of kit he bought, he sure isn’t smart about using it, or making worthwhile videos. Maybe it’s all the blows to the head he’s took.
@@AutonomousPlayground You're that mad Seth broke Joe's record? Cmon dude, Seth rules. Dont make me call the Chubby Surprise.
@@AutonomousPlayground Salt
I came here to say that! 😂
Never in a million years I thought I would have to say Rush is right. lol *Urp* Just threw up in my mouth a little bit. But yep... if we're dollars to dollars on this thing, you gotta mount it to a pole and recreate the actual setup legit. Otherwise, you're going to have folks saying that basically the other guy leaning in at the moment of impact is changing this into a head on collision impact instead of one car running into a parked car impact. It does make a difference. And I truly wanna see ya beat Joe! lol Go get 'em, Seth!
The fact that the weakest shots are the ones that end a lot of fights tells a bit of a story too.
precision and timing
and the unpredictability lol
Not if you understand Physics 🤔
And also intercepting the attack too
I was saying that combat is more complicated than simple moves or easily defineable metrics, actually. :)
My man said falcon punch from the responses😂😂😂😂
Seth: Mine is the most powerful round house kick
Buakaw: hold my banana tree
Sensei Seth making sure to use his Powerkube to make up for the 2000 dollar cost. I respect it, great investment.
Those things arent precise. Major scam
@@myname-mz3lo but if everyone uses it as their unit of measurement it’s useful? As long as they’re strapped to the same base?
@@myname-mz3lo maybe, but the major problem with the entire way seth did it in these videos is putting them on a surface with tons of give in them... so hes basicly cutting his numbers for quite alot id say...
@@ianmartin4062 no because it os wrong by different ammounts every hit. Scientists have machines that fp this well. But the only known brand to public is this scam.
The biggest problem is that the numbers depend a lot on accuracy too. A hit right in the centre with be triple one even a couple centimetres to the side which is probably making the spinning kicks way lower than they should be
You've got to anchor the sensor better. You're bleeding force off all your numbers.
You also need to try to land with the smallest impact area possible to concentrate the force. The reason that one axe kick was way higher than the others is because the impact point was the heel instead of the flat of the foot. (Same reason you had so much variance in the spinning rear kick.)
On the roundhouse, you were bleeding force by not having it anchored and by hitting with the meatier upper shin instead of the foot. I think you could hit more.
I would love to see these all measured with a rigid mount. As many people other people have already noted, the way you measured techniques not hitting a lying target involved a fair bit of give so that may well have impacted the results in unforseen ways (e.g., causing side kick to transfer force at a bad angle or the spinning techniques to glance off slightly). It also would be really cool to see a colab with a couple channels to try and get more aggregate results, since different people favour different techniques. That said, still super cool to see all these measurements and definitely gives an interesting perspective to some underutilised techniques!
Was honestly half-expecting Seth to try the martello de negativa.
Not good enough at it and also just forgot 😂
Sometimes strikes were onto a soft dummy, sometimes bag and sometimes ground. A bit more consistency would be nice
Certain strikes will have the most force (F= Mass x Accel) but surface area isn’t taken into account in the test. An elbow or a punch has a lot less surface area hitting a target. Do a pressure equation (P= Force / area) and see what applies the most pressure
You may be at a disadvantage to Rogan’s kick because he seemed to have a rigid support behind the cube while you have a bag. That’s going to absorb some of the momentum and may affect the measurement?
The guy holding the bag might be pushing into the kick accidentally making it stronger too.
@@TheOfficialSniper916 no u can see that he isnt
@@azadog1233 10:45 all the kicks he did before the 165k one, the guy backed up a ton. Its so inconsistent theres no point in taking this measurement serious. If he wants to do it legit, set it up on something more solid to mimic the conditions Rogan was in. He could very well be kicking over 150k, but we don't know for sure cause the conditions aren't the same.
@@TheOfficialSniper916 yeah which is why he said he wasnt taking it seriously lol
@@TheOfficialSniper916 oh also backing up takes away momentum, it doesn't give is power lol
Good video and nice to see some actual measurements behind it.
I'm not surprised that the Ridge Hand Strike featured so highly, it's one of my favourites. And you're one of the few people that I've ever seen, who (like me) do it with the forearm instead of the hand!
Nice work!
I want to see what joe would get with his turning side kick
This thing reminds me of the dragon ball z test machine you had to pass to get into the qualifying rounds. Wouldn't that be cool if there was a world tournament every 2- years kinda like an MMA Olympics lol
Damn, I need to practice my Ridge Hands. 😬
Also killer roundhouse, awesome stuff as always!
Ive been watching your channel for a while and I love your enthusiasm and humor! Great kick Btw!
I have to say thank you, I'm trying to write a story about street fighting and delinquent gangs, and finding your channel has really helped me to understand some martial arts better
Also, the double fist is super common in old black and white cowboy movies. It’s the “fight ender” that finally knocks guys out when it’s delivered to the back of their heads. Kinda cool to see that it’s a powerful ground and pound strike. Not that MMA guys would hit the back of their opponents heads with it tho.
It's kinda strange how people don't expect it to be strong. I mean, there's a reason this move is so popular among other great apes. They don't have the hip and shoulder mobility and training that we do, so for them it's easily the strongest attack. And what works for them works for us, just slightly less
The issue is also you need accuracy with the cube, you gonna hit it in the best spot to get the best score and something like a spinning back kick is harder to place pin point. On the other hand you can use a big wide swing to hit the middle plus extra
That comment you made att precise 10:00 mark about "Pulling" with your standing foot...
I´ve never realised that before, so I emphazied it even more..That made my kicks instantly harder..Thanks a Bunch!🥰
Need more consistent bracing for the numbers to start to mean anything between different tests
Love these videos though one day the cube price will be justified 💖
"Hey, I think I can take his record"
-quickly goes on the internet to check the cost of a Powerkube
"I think I'm better off eating for the month, thanks"
Nicely done, Sensei Seth! Knew you would break the record eventually.
That was really cool. Congratulations Seth!
Good video Seth! Great work getting up into the 160,000s. A question: I know in the last video you started on a pole and then moved to a bag, but wouldn't kicking against a solid object give you an advantage? You improved when someone held the bag, and maybe you could improve more if you kicked against something even more solid, maybe a wall like Joe Rogan did. Just wondering if you could go even higher and stretch the lead. But I don't understand the powerkube at all so maybe that wouldnt work. Either way, great job!
That's exactly what I was thinking. Even if the person holding the bag didn't move backwards there is still some flex in the bag. Even the Powerkube sliding horizontally will misdirect some of the force.
Joe Rogan had his cube anchored really securely to the wall, probably helped his numbers.
Something like a steel or concrete column would be best though, with a wall its harder to get the right angle.
A bag moves, even with someone holding it, you lose energy.
Yeah. If he mounts it on the wall, he can beat Joe Rogan easily, with pretty much any kick he wants. The solid backstop makes a huge difference.
Great job breaking the Joe Rogan record.
Can't wait to see what you're going to do next.
Thank you for sharing ☺️.
The other thing I noticed about the roundhouse in this, is that joe is kicking horizontally, and Seth is kicking slightly upwards, going against gravity and the guy holding the bag is holding the bag up more so Seth has to raise up to hit it.
Very interesting and informative video! Now we know that YOUR roundhouse kick is the most powerful among the most powerful kicks. :) It will be fun to test tate vs yoko ( vertical vs horizontal) fist punches and palm strikes, too. :)
Great Job, This video was very entertaining
This experiment was done a few years back (Muay Thai Vs Karate Vs Taekwondo Vs Capoera) and the most powerful kick was a Capoera kick. If my memory serves me, it utilizes a greater percentage of body weight and slightly more momentum than the roundhouse. The video is on RUclips somewhere
I think he did a reaction to that last year. I only remember him being frustrated at how flawed the test was though.
Ahh it was the Taekwondo roundhouse by a significant amount. Fight Science is what your looking for.
Source? I need to know because i want to experiment.
Depends on the person surely . For me it's lead hook or rear elbow . Why they were natural to me so I liked throwing them . So did it loads and fine tuned it . The power comes from the pendulum trigger step . Toe placement and hip rotation . If I throw them in combo I can throw the elbow even harder because I can take anergy from the lead hooks impact and let that anergy travel back through my body as I'm taking the second trigger step to move in deeper for the elbow . For those 2 stokes my technique is perfect and it is my entire mass accelerated to a tiny point . That's the point . Any trike when done perfectly be it punch or kick should theoretically be able to produce the same . Because any move done correctly is entire body mass accelerated then transferred to a locked out limb . Look at Liston's jab . His technique was perfect it landed with his entire mass behind it .
I mean my round kick and front kick are probably more force . But they are not fight ending moves . Because they less pressure . Mass times speed divided by aria .
That and can't kick head hight lol
you also have to consider leverage. your legs are a much greater lever than arms while also having more mass which is being propelled by the body. another important fact is the sturdyness of your weapon. a wrist might not be able to transfer all the power like a shin or elbow since it will bend at some point.
the size of your impacting bodypart and its ability to project the amount of power to a smaller area does further multiply the damage hitting the target.
More videos with the cube please!!
Congratz bro! Niiice kick!
wow, that's incredible!!
you can finally say you're tougher than a tiny old man!! congratulations!!!!
Nat Geo did the same test, a long time ago. The strongest move was a very impractical Capoeira roundhouse-type move, where the practitioner put one hand on the ground.
Martello de Negativa
You did it Seth!!!!!! Congratulations🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Tier list idea for you, spots to strike, liver kick elbow to temple, punch to nose etc
the "ridge hand" is one of those old school things people used to train on. we used to get A LOT of flack for it. essentially one of the hardest punches out there.
not that its great in a fight, but makes a hell of a dent in the bag.
I'd imagine so, I've never thrown it nor had it thrown at me but it seems like it has a huge telegraph before you can effectively throw it.
The way I was taught ridge hands had way less of a lead-up time, one of the primary usages was to slip a guard, hitting with a lateral motion despite starting with a linear motion. Essentially, starting with a punch, but taking that rotation of your fist at the end of the strike and turning into a striking surface just above thumb, or else wrist/forearm instead of your two knuckles.
Whether this is 'historically accurate', no freakin clue. :D (But it definitely worked and popped people with it who were expecting a linear strike.)
@@wesleyhollandjr111 pretty sure the goal of it is just an exercise to learn a good slap.
like, you dont actually wanna be hitting somebody like that. youll break your wrist on somebodys face.
@@wadesullivan5623 its a training strike. helps you understand how to whip your arm around.
if youve ever trained it on a bag, you know not many other strikes hit as hard. but you are hitting a bag, no way youd ever want to swing that at somebodys head.
@@dbspaceoditty I mean I broke boards with it...
I think a good takeaway from this video is that just because something is powerful, doesn't mean its the least dangerous. Those elbows you put in are dangerous but not necessarily strong.
Fax
Love the donkey kong double hammer strike. It hits like a kick and can be used on a downed opponent's head.
It is not just power and speed of the strike it is about where that strike lands, you can have much higher power with horse kick (ushiro geri) but with the elbow you can cut the skin and cause visual problems to your oponent... never the less this is the good way to test the power of the strikes to have one persion that knows the tecnique to do them all.
Without watching the video i would say a spinning kick. Maybe a Tornado, Spinning side kick, or spinning wheel kick.
Haven’t watched this either. But ima say Roundhouse, Front Kick, elbow, or overhand
I feel like no one truly grasps what Seth did. He actually just beat with video proof the hardest kick in the history of mankind. You sir deserve ice cream and bragging rights for the rest of your life.
We can grasp it together.
I've actually seen Curtis Blaydes using that double-hammerfist in some of his early regional scene fights to finish guys. I want to say Alexander Romanov also used it in one of his early UFC bouts, as well.
The main issue with all this is that the bag moves a lot more with a high momentum kick which significantly reduces the amount of force registered by the pressure transducer in the sensor pad. That's why the hammer fists and axe gave such surprising values.
as it looks joe rogan kick it while it was stationary on a wall which is way different then kicking it on a bag
Yeah, definitely losing some power. Not sure how much though. That would be interesting to see.
And he's on a cocktail of juices.
@@BuildinWings came here to add just that
Throws and Karate all you need nice video seth
Dude, I gotta get me one of those machines. Congrats on leveling up.
Great job, I was really hoping you’d beat his record, so when you did I commented on his channel, “sensei Seth beat your record, HaHa. On his kick record video, anyways though good job great video keep up the great work, next you have to throwing someone across the room with a one inch punch!
Comparing the peak hook with the average front kick blows my mind. The elbow was the icing on the cake.
Joe's target is on a FIXED SUPPORT. This is so crystal clear - your energy is going into compressing the heavy bag, moving the heavy bag, and moving the holder.
Okay but if all of the strikes are on bags where all of that happens, then they’re still comparable to eachother. No?
@@SenseiSeth Well no, the axe kick was on the floor - for example. You would have crushed Joe immediately with his setup. They are comparable to each other, but not to Joe's. Yours were handicapped by your setup!
great job. now that record is yours!!!!
Hey, Sensei Seth! I'd love to see a video of you and maybe Wonderboy and Sweet T compete on who has the most controlled, lightest strikes on the powerkube. Full speed, precise, and snappy techniques you could use on a prepubescent white belt.
Good Job!!
This was brilliant.
i JUST WANTED TO SAY... sorry for the all-caps. Didn't mean to yell in your ear...
Man, I've really come to enjoy your content. I dig your sense of humor. Keep up the good work brother... wish I lived closer. You remind me of one of my old Marine sparring buddies.
the ridge hand technique is the same principle as the spinning back fist that usually lands with arm rather than fist or elbow, this is why that technque tends to rock or knock out the opponent when landed.
Mad respect for keeping at it. If I had one I couldn't let it go until I beat it either.
It's amazing how powerful you can kick with proper technique. I want one of those machines.
If there's one thing I'd love to know it's how these figures the PowerKube puts how compare to PoundsPerSquareInch or Joules and so on, because right now I'm just seeing a figure being produced that I have no real frame of reference for to properly understand.
That said, Nicely done because all these numbers are bloody impressive!
I do have a few ideas for a follow up video though, but rest up first before you try anything else because this looked like one hell of a workout already.
My ideas for a follow up? First up, hand techniques:
Back Fist, Knife Hand, Haymaker and the legendary One Inch Punch!
Second up, more kicks:
Turning Side Kick, Step Through Side Kick as well as the Roundhouse and Hook version of this, Crescent Kicks, and maybe try an Axe Kick where the opponent is still more upright? Not that I have any idea how that could be done in this case :/
Try a lvl 3 debt Systema ballistic strike, aka relaxed wave strikes with full kinetic chain application through the body. It can accelerate on impact and release the kinetic energy late rather than early on the surface when done right. Or as late as possible beyond the earlier resistances from the box. This could be very interesting to see those numbers.
Congrats Seth. Not only are you a hard kicker, but a gentleman.
I love powerkube videos
super interesting video. Thank you. 9:30 That was hard by the way.
I gotta say I love your sense of humor 😂
Enjoyed the vid 10/10
I've been a carpet installer my whole life.. I hit a kicker with my knee- all day/everyday...
I'd love to get one of those things set up low to the ground and test my mean - carpet stretching knee. Me and my brother always talk about how we can kick harder than anyone.. I'd love to get my hands on one of these and put it to the test.
Something I've discovered is that if you throw that ridgehand like it's an overhand and focus on making contact with the head of your forearm just below your wrist you'll land with more force
It helps to pull the fist back a little to expose the wrist area more
What about that famous capoeira kick, the one that goes from ground position to the ribs? Curious to see how that one registers on the device.
Also would be interesting to see how some wing chun strikes compare too.
good job 👍
Nice result. I'm interested in the impact that other of sports would generate. What would a fastball register, how about some WWE moves (if executed for real) or a tackle from a beefy linebacker on a punt returner.
High quality content 👌

You should attach the sensor to a stationary anchor like a wall instead of a moving one like the heavy bag. The wall will push back more whereas the moving bag will suck in some energy when you make it move. The reason the attacks on the machine were so good when it was on the floor was because the floor doesn't take away anything. By analogy, imagine you're laying on the floor and someone drops a 10 pound weight from 10 feet up on your stomach. Then imagine the same scenario except you're laying on a trampoline. Which one hurts more? It's also the reason that cars are designed with crumple zones. Though the old video where the capoeira kick did so well had a stationary target, the issues there were that the kicks didn't all land on the same place on the stick-shaped sensor and that the guys had different weight.
Smaller tips: the farther down your leg the spinning kick meets the target, the more force it will impart since that part will be moving faster. If our feet didn't have so many small and fragile bones, we would be contacting with them instead of the shin. You can also increase the force by increasing your weight, especially at the tip of your leg, such as by wearing (heavy) shoes. You might also get some bonus force if your body started off moving instead of stationary, like if you had a several step running head start.
Seth, you need to do a collaboration with the Wushu Engineer for your next video on this topic
Wow, congratulations! But the most astonishing for me was still the ridgehand.
That’s a mean kick you have there! But I think it would be way higher with a more solid set up. With less energy leakage.
The double hammerfist was super popular in shows in the 60s, like Star Trek (TOS).
Congratulations!!!
You should get the cube mounted to test these. I'm almost certain you would see a decent improvement in all your numbers since a lot of the impact is taken away from the connection from the cube to the bag and then the bags lack of real support since it's only being held onto.
Love the video Seth. I would love for you to check out Kajukenbo and comment on it. I'm biased because that is my principle martial art (I am a black belt, 10+ years of practice). It was invented in the 1940's in the Asian immigrant community in Honolulu. It's said that it was the "original" mixed martial art. It combines elements of Karate, Kung Fu, Kempo, Jiu Jitsu, Kali among others. It teaches strikes, locks, holds, throws, grappling and disabling and fatal techniques at the upper levels. Open hand and weapons. There are many sub forms. The form I learned was set down by a Guy Irvin, a retired Special Forces officer, and student of AL Dacascos, a master of Kajukenbo
HEY Sensei Seth!!! I stumbled across your youtube channel here like maybe a week or 2 ago and i have to say, i absolutely have been loving all the types of videos that you are putting out and have put out. I love the mix in with other martial arts styles that you have done and then try them in sparring. Those videos were pretty funny to watch but also pretty informative. I have loved martial arts my whole life, i do not study anything other then watching videos because it is awesome to see. I love the colabs that you do with other youtubers also. Those are really entertaining to watch also. I think that i have learned more about martial arts in the past 2 weeks by watching your videos and some videos of the ppl you colab with, then i have learned in my whole life. I love the videos and i cant wait to keep watching more of them that you put out!!!!!!! Ok, now to watch this video. lol.
Sensei Seth please make a video about karate blocks, mostly cause i changed the way i used them, in MMA and in muay thai sparring. What i did is i'd pivot and use the block at the same time, fx if they'd try to hit me in the head i'd use a outside to inside block and pivot of my lead foot to make a opening where i can hit them or take them down. Can you make a video about since i wanna know if its just me or maybe its the way to use the more traditional karate blocks, also sorry for the bad grammer and hello from denmark.
Can you please make a video on how to identify and choose a good martial arts school - specifically karate?
The movement of the heavy back absorbs some of the force, that's why strikes to the cube on the floor seem especially good, the floor doesn't move. Mount the cube on a wall instead of the bag. Notice Rogan's cube?
Note that Side Kicks (dont work) despite the huge difference in power between it & the Front Kick.
The impact at 7:19 kicked me into a double ad and a glowing orange blob that turned into a butterfly flew from right where his foot was
Y’know… yer pretty dang cool, Seth.
Just started the clip. I guess: front push kick
the guy holding the pad was pulling it back a little every time but when you got the 160k he held the bag more in place
Please do the follow-up with hand tools (with @hard2hurt ). I.e. a regular punch vs a punch with a gas lighter in the fist. Or a hammerfist vs hammerfist with a stick palmed. etc.
Attach to pole cemented in ground to see your true potential. Strike the pole itself to further increase technique, gently until you get used to it, try not to bust your knuckles.
Congrats!
You’re device isn’t mounted, and you’re not wearing jeans. Always love watching your videos Sensei Seth!
I think that Sports Science tv show had an episode where they were trying to figure out the strongest strike, I don't know if they used the same device to measure but the strongest they measured was a Capoeira kick.
I'm proud of you. That was fun.
Love the friendly competition
I’d like to see the results for backfist, reverse elbow, stomp kick, open handed palm heel hook strike, and jumping back kick.
