  • Freebo: one name, one groovin’ cat! A master of blues, folk, roots music, bassist Freebo (born Daniel Friedberg) was a longtime associate of Bonnie Raitt, anchoring her stage and studio band from 1971-79.
In this interview clip, Freebo reveals his former Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bandleader’s dedication to the blues and her interactions with the icons of the genre which continues to define her music well into the 21st Century.
A multi-instrumentalist, composer, recording artist, singer, and producer, Freebo has waxed sides and shared stages with a wide array of iconic artists including Dr. John, Maria Muldaur, Neil Young, Willy DeVille, John Mayall, Ringo Starr, Crosby Stills & Nash, and Aaron Neville, among others.

Love me some Freebo! Always have... One of the first, if not the first, fretless bass player I was aware of. ❤

Those records that Freebo made with a young Bonnie in the '70s are very special and the best she ever did.

Loved how you two dovetailed musically back in the day. Saw you guys a few times in Minneapolis, great memories there. I remember doing left hand little finger pushups for weeks after watching her strength there. Just wow...
