    If you have a power outlet outside, use an extension cord for a hairdryer. The hair dryer is hot enough to warm the door handle and lock mechanism and around the seal, but not hot enough to damage the paint.

    Put some normal oil in keyholes after you did this. And before this weather come. Do not use any lock meltdown liquids, because they will actually break you lock from inside (reason, salt, alcohol, stuff what make metal dry, break mechanism). "And silicon on sealants". Never do this! Greetings From Finland. -31 now outside, and i get even this American brand (Ford poo) work tomorrow morning without late from work.

    • @germanshepherd13

      +timyfin silicone is perfectly safe for sealants/rubber. my buick actually recommends silicone grease for all of the seals. so does most every car make.my scuba gear/regulator uses silicone on all the seals and gaskets.. what the scuba shop sells.. what you dont want is petroleum based products that will break down the rubber. stay warm in Finland.. only 23 here in PA but a foot of snow on the way..

    I find that salt water makes no sense at all as it is a rust starter and sure the water will refreeze again over night and it is not a permanent solution the salt might dry the plastic on the door handles. Windshield waher fluid - 40 or a hairdryer once you get the doors open dry them and put a light coat of lithium greece or a rubber seal coating on all the rubber seals that is recommend for keeping water from freezing door closed again a plastic coating on all the plastic door handles

  • @markcoia210

    you will create rust on the components you cant see also creating some big problems down the road. use some windshield washer fluid or some deicer anything but salt water.

  • @ericellis8680

    I get why he is adding salt, but if he is opening the door right then, he could get the same results without the salt. the salt is going to corrode the metal in the lock and the door. That's why most old cars in snow states have rust holes in them, road salt.

    • @helivesonforever
      @helivesonforever 6 лет назад +1

      Road salt is not the same as table salt. Road salt is far more aggressive, and contains many more chemicals. He'll be fine if he washes it off, plus the handle is plastic and they're sealed so very little if any will get inside the actual door. The only reason cars up here in the north rust is because the stuff they spray, now magnesium chloride, actually sticks to the metal and works its way into every nook and cranny. salt alone won't stick to the metal.
