My dog chewed pieces off his toys that came in the Bark Box Super Chewer within 10 minutes of giving them to him. I called customer service and they switched him to hard chew toys and promptly sent me two new toys which he loves. Great job Bark Box.

I’ve had great experiences with bark box super chewer. The first two boxes had chews that were just too big for my Boston. When I contacted customer service, they were able to switch our profile so we could get the smaller box, then sent us three smaller toys that arrived within the week so Sherman didn’t have to do without. They also reached out to us when our state was having wild fires to inquire about our safety and let us know they would work with us in case we had suffered any loss in the fire and couldn’t continue the service for the time being. I’m a loyal customer now!

Bark box takes the cake in terms of customer service, creativity and flexibility. They have worked with me on numerous occasions and from this video I would be mad if I got those flat toys from bully make. Maybe its the packaging and marketing but bark always makes me feel like I got my moneys worth. Also they always send very personalized replies and make sure to ask about my baby before adressing my concern. alot of their plushes come with extra toys inside for when dogs inevitably rip them open eventually

Great video Ian!I can tell that Fenway wants a Robot already. I was waiting to see how our pup Fenway shook out so to speak. Despite his small size (15 lbs), you have helped us develop a great self satisfied chewer. So now that he has mastered and really loves his benebones, I think he would like either one of the top two boxes you rated. He hasn't really been into his kong as much as just going into his stash and grabbing a benebone and settling down. Bully Make does seem more creative but I think he would like the items in the Bark Box better at least according to the boxes you opened today.

I did the traditional BarkBox for my dog for one year. I liked the different themes each month, but more often than not he wasn't interested in the toys they sent. I donated many to my local animal shelters.
I have a PupJoy subscription now for him. The toy selection is better for him, but there are A LOT of repeats toys and treats alike. I think I got the same exact toy three months in a row (again my local shelter received a lot of new toys). I have the option to skip a month or more, so I do skip a few now & then to try to get a better selection.
For our puppy we welcomed home last year, we started PupBox for him. What I really like is that they sent age appropriate treats & toys with training tips and info about what to expect at each stage. Now that he is an adult, the box has changed in that training tips are no longer included, and the toys/treats are for an adult. It was really cute for the month of his first birthday, they sent birthday themed toys and treats. It was a nice transition for him. I plan to continue for now, he is not picky about his toys and so far all the treats have been winners in his eyes.
My dogs are Siberian Huskies, one is 10 yrs old, the other is 15 months old.

Hey, thanks for the rundown of these boxes! I have a sweet poodle who's 3 years old but new to our home. She loves those expensive deer antler type chews, which she's not even come close to finishing in the last two months. She also has a llama squeaky plush, and it's still perfect aside from the slobber ware after two months. It still has all 5 squeakies in it, a miracle for this house. I'm thinking of picking up maybe the Bark Box for her, though we have a big, (75ish pound) poodle who can chew through plushes like mad, (he destroyed two of the llamas in about a week and a half) so might get the super-chewer. Anyway, thank you!

My 4 month old male English Bulldog puppy is a huge fan of the Bullymake Box! He tends to shred soft toys like the ones in the regular Bark Box so it’s great to have such durable power-chewer toys in the Bullymake Box. I have noticed that my pup likes the toys that have parts that stick out (as you mentioned in the video) but he also really took to a round Ferris Wheel toy that reminds me of the toys you showed here. He also loves the work-to-eat toys. So far I’ve opted for the Nylon and Rubber options but I know that there are also Rope and Ballistic options available (you can choose which materials you want in each box.) I also like that you can choose a toys-only version of the Bullymake Box although my dog Benson usually loves the treats included (especially the Peanut Butter Bars!) I know I’m commenting on this video long after you posted it but I really appreciate your rating of the subscription boxes because it’s helpful for a new puppy/first time dog owner like me. Thanks!

Love your channel, Ian! Question, please: In my fantastic neighborhood, we have 2 beagles, doberman, a few labs, a boxer, a leonberger, an Irish wolfhound, great pyrenees, pointer, poodle mix, all with very capable, attentive humans. The dogs unfortunately rarely interact with each other, and when they do, it's typically with a lot of apprehension and concern (by the humans) and definitely very brief. Or it's a flurry of barks as we walk past each other's homes on our walks. Could you please advise on how to introduce dogs to each other and to new humans as well? It'd be great if our dogs could socialize safely. Many thanks!

I just discovered your channel, I scrolled through your videos, and you don't have one on an issue that I'm having. I dread taking my new dog for a walk because the second she sees another dog she nearly tanks my arm off. I got a harness that tugs them when they pull really hard. Now that doesn't even work as much and now she just starts barking when it tugs her. I'm trying treats but then she's just WAY to excited for the treat that she doesn't even listen to me which is another issue. Whenever she's excited all commands go through one ear and right out of the other.

This is a reactivity issue. There are some online resources for that, but it's really best addressed in-person with a knowledgeable trainer or behavioral consultant. All the things you're describing are fairly common components. Take a look at either the CCPDT or the IAABC where you can search with your zip-code to find a good, R+ trainer that can help you with that in your area.

Good review. I've been debating starting one for my 2 year old dog since she is extremely toy and treat motivated. I have to say I was really disappointed in what Kong offered. I actually wouldn't have even given them a point for including the regular Kong feeder/toy in a box for an older dog. Yea they need replacing sometimes, but I think most people who would be interested in it probably already have a collection of them. They should have skipped that and included more treats/fillers. It will be interesting to see if they shake up the offerings over time or if they keep repeating what they include.
The only one I've ever gotten has been the regular bark box as occasional one time purchases (it has been a few years). I've only done it a couple times, because I was a bit disappointed with what I had gotten. The treats were fine and we did get a nice drying towel in one, but I didn't even want to try using one of the toys (it was a ball that seemed like it was gel filled).

  • @loriandersenmd

My superchewer is not impressed with the flat Bully nylon chews and their rubber work-to-eat toys are far too fragile for her - has them apart in 5-10', 15' at the most. Since Bully will only replace toys once and from a particular category (so a hollow rubber toy could be replaced by a different hollow rubber toy, equally destructible), their replacement policy isn't very helpful. Bark SuperChewer has been great about not only replacing toys, but also "right sizing" them as I've discovered that the larger chew toys are harder for my dog to destroy. Haven't tried a Kong box yet, but we do have a couple of Kong balls that she really loves to chew. She's not been as interested in the Kong work-to-eat toys except for the very large standard version. Because my dog is not a picky eater, I have no need for the treats in the boxes and have converted them to all toys. After trying both Bark and Bully, we've filled the toy drawer, so will probably let both subscriptions lapse until we work down the toy supply, then will likely resubscribe to Bark as they have both the 3D nylon and better solid rubber toys and a WAY better replacement policy. Bark customer service is also cute when you correspond with them.

My 9-15 pound pom mixes are technically between x small and medium, but one favors x-small or cat toys- and both have food allergies. I've been trying to find a box thing for them, but they're tough little guys to shop for. Either they can't have the treats, don't like the hard toys, or the plush ones are too big. I wish the sites had more options.

One of my issues how (that wasn't an issue in the past) is that now we have two very small dogs (8 and 10 pounds). Before we had Great Danes and Irish Wolfhounds. What a change. At any rate, I find just about everything is too big for my little ones now. And I have to spend hours cutting up treats. I could use "small" treats for my Danes and Wolfhounds with no problem--easy and convenient. Now I'm spending hours cutting up treats. The treats I saw in each of these boxes (even the small ones) are the same--I'm going to be spending hours (that I could be using to be with my dogs) cutting up treats. Would some manufacturer please make things for itty-bitty dogs????

Great Video! We started a subscription with Bullymake a while ago because it's what you have, and we've had to find tune it over the months. Man, I guess it's been since December 2019, as our first box had that green antler set you showed. We had 2 rat terriers at the time and neither one of them expressed ANY interest in it. It settled to the bottom of the toy box and was never used. We got a third rattie about a month ago, and he's gnawed on it maybe 10 min total? Those Benebone Wishbones? Yeah, those are the Go To chew toy and they can settle into those things for an hour.
@Siimpawtico Dog Training - could you do a review of the other toy options that Bullymake offers?
After falling flat with their chew toy, we tried one of their ballistic toys. It did not seem to be made for an aggressive chewer, and then switched to their rope toy. Their rope toys have been pretty impressive so far. Pretty good quality (for a rope toy), and the shape/configuration are different every month. Our two younger ratties (2 years and 2.5 years) LOVE them, and even play tug with each other spontaneously. I do think Bullymake should get a half point as they make customizing your box (even month to month) VERY easy. And their customer service is super responsive. I've emailed them to get help swapping out toys right before my box shipped, and to skip a box, and it's always taken care of, and communicated, in less than 24 hours (sometimes less than 12 hours).
I DO agree that sometimes the hole is too small on their rubber work-to-eat toys, but our dogs LOVE those things. As @Matt Simpson said, it's all about the size of the treat. I usually put one larger treat and several smaller treats in there to keep them engaged and working. Even some of their small treats are too big for the opening and don't easily come out. I either use a smaller treat purchased separately, or sometimes I'll just cut a few of their treats in half.
Thanks for this video and keep 'em coming. LOVE this channel!

I keep looking at these boxes, so thanks for reviewing them! My main issue is that with a giant breed dog (English Mastiff), I don't know if any of them will have toys big enough for my pup. He's 180lbs and a heavy chewer - he has the ends off the huge bones from the butcher in under an hour most times. His size means that most dog toys are a bust - he's got the biggest Kong and a nylabone (which I had to boil with pork bones before he was interested in it) but I do want to get him some toys that will keep him busy when I'm down with a migraine! Any other giant breed folks with suggestions/experiences?

    • @emmamemma4162

Have you tried antlers? They are a bit controversial because a dog can break their teeth chewing on them, but since some animals have very hard antlers they will at least be long-lasting...
We give meaty bones/cartilage to our dog as part of her diet and give them to her straight out of the freezer. She's not a heavy chewer, but with the bone and meat being frozen it takes her a long time to finish it. She'll leave it to melt and periodically come back to lick and gnaw at it. Sometimes she won't eat all the bone, depending on the hardness of it, but your dog probably would eat it all. If you can find meaty bones at a reasonable price it's a high-quality complement to your dog's diet and a one time use chew toy all in one. Just check that the daily amount of phosphorous and calcium does not get too high, if it does your dog will get very hard, dry and light colored poops.

We signed up for the BarkBox Super Chewer Box in September when they had a promotion to get a stuffed shark fin costume with the box... I only made each of our dogs wear it for about 30 seconds for some quick pics but it was totally worth it! 😂 So far I’ve been pretty happy with their boxes. After signing up I contacted them to see if we could get animal-free treats because our household loves all animals and they told me the first box was going to be shipped automatically but for future boxes we could get that, so that’s been nice. (Peanut butter cookies, carob and peanut butter sticks, sweet potato sticks...) I was surprised to see that your October box had 2/3 toys different than ours... we got “Chonk” the robot (and yes, our dogs love that one, too!!), plus the “dog cog” and one that looks like a bolt (but didn’t have any tag on it). The dogs are totally not interested in the bolt because, as you described, there needs to be some way for them to hold it and chew it! One of our dogs chewed on it for a second when I held onto it - but I’m not really interested in holding it the entire time he would want to chew on it, and he didn’t seem to like that arrangement much either! I would’ve loved to have received the treat dispensing toy that you did!! Bummer!
By the way, I commented on your Kong video a while back but I’ll just say again that that gave us some great tips - and ever since we watched that our dogs get a frozen Kong every night! We use the Natural Balance vegetarian canned food to stuff the top of the Kong because nightly peanut butter seemed to be upsetting the dogs’ stomachs. We have a total of 8 Kongs which means we have to wash and remake them every 3 to 4 days, and I have found that the light blue kind for dogs who aren’t tough chewers has actually held up the best!! No deterioration at all on that one!
Keep it up with the great videos!

Animal free? What the hell? Dogs are supposed to eat meat. It is what is biologically appropriate for them. If you aren’t comfortable with that get a rabbit instead.

I would have appreciated a Kong subscription box for new dog owners that don't already have a kong collection and are looking to build one.
Good tip on the kong size! I will be getting a bigger size next time!
I got bark box (original) for 6 months when my dog was a puppy. Novelty wore off and we ended up with way too many toys of that first category, and not enough chew toys that we could leave her with that she would not destroy!
We got 1 box of the super chewer, which had promise with a great work to eat toy and a wood flavored chew toy, which seemed to be good quality, however it was very soft for my dog. She seemed to be scraping the pieces off very easily, unlike her nylabones that are long lasting. I had to only do short sessions because I think if I left it she probably could scrape off and eat half the toy in one sitting.
Interested in eventually trying the Bullymake and seeing if their chew toys are a bit hardier.

I recommend you redo your evaluation based upon multiple months. I think you undervalue the Kong box because the first box in the subscription comes with a classic kong. I'm only two months into my subscription but the second box came with a kong ball and also a simple tennis ball on a roap toy that, at first, I thought was pretty lame, but has become my puppy's favorite interactive toy. I'm not settled on which subscription service is best, and I will reevaluate after my 6 month subscription is up, but I think Kong got a raw deal in your evaluation because of the way they structure they're subscriptions. Thank you for the videos. Keep up the good work.

I tried to chew toy train my dog luna but she doesn't seem to like the work to eat toys similar to kong. Instead she likes the ones she has to roll to get the treats out of but she figured it out so fast that it doesn't keep her busy for long. She can't have rope toys cuz she gets the string off and ends up puking it out the next morning. Plush toys are the same problem. She can only have hard toys but she doesn't stay interested in them. And if i cover it with peanut butter She licks off the easy stuff then won't keep chewing the toy. Instead she gets up and starts counter surfing and sniffing around and getting into trouble. I try to distract her playing fetch with her and it works sometimes but sometimes she gets bored in the middle of the game and starts counter surfing again.

The only thing she doesn't seem to get bored of are bones from the butcher shop but they smell really bad.

We’ve just gotten the Bullymake box, and we are mostly happy with it. I ended up swapping out the rubber (work to eat) toy for an additional chew toy. The shapes were interesting (to me), but the hole is a problem. It looks to be designed to hold a chew product like dentastix, but the hole is an evenly shaped plus sign, and those type of products (both dentastix and the ones that bullymake sends) end up being more of an X shape, where one set of angles is larger than the other set of angles. That makes putting them in a bit of a pain, and my dogs would eat the top off, and then not be able to get at the part that was stuck into the toy. The hole was also a problem with smaller treats as a dispenser type of toy/feeder. The shape and size of the opening would prevent the food from coming out, so no reward means the dog gets bored fast. My pitador has liked some of them as if they were balls to throw and play fetch with... but we have a few of those now, and the kicker was that our shiba puppy tears bits off of the rubber toys. At first it was just the one that looks like a gift box and has angles and corners to work at, but eventually it was most of them.

I am working thru all your videos, amazing info.. I have an 8 Mastiff that has had 3 foreign object surgeries. This all happened in his 1 and 2 years of age. My million dollar dog;) My biggest issues are finding chew toys that he can't destroy and swallow.
I got him a dog chew tire and always supervise and ask Tazer to spit it out when he has a piece off. He does spit it out. But I would like not to have to hang over him watching ever piece get spit out and worry did I miss seeing g him swallow this rubber/plastic. Tazer is an amazing dog and is so well behaved. My other issue is floors. Tazer struggles with tile and wooden floors, I have to lay carpets down. Wondering why he is like this. Any input?
Thank you for your amazing teaching videos.

I can't stand the regular bark bod. Generic brand association toys, like a bag of doritos ... I will not hav that in my house. I called barkbox about grain free treats... they said, we don't do grain free. Junk. I am better buying my own stuff.
