I don't think the Iraq War was a mistake outside of a failure to declare war, which is unconstitutional. I would argue the prosecution of the war, once won in the initial stages was the problem, not the war itself. Had we not have disbanded the military and deBaathized the government, had we sent more troops as Gen. Shinseki advocated, had we thought through the end game and chosen winners and losers or allowed for the Kurds to become independent etc...the outcomes would have been far better, and few would have been opposed to the war. No one ever knows what the outcomes of war will be, which is why we need to go through the constitutional process and actually declare war, if that is what we want to do. Supplying Ukraine is not the same as going to war i.e., Iraq. It is in the long-term best interests of the USA to stop Russia from conquering Ukraine. Allowing him to do so, will embolden US enemies worldwide and likely cause larger and more wars. We need to rebuild the manufacturing base for our military in all areas, artillery rounds, air to air, air to ground missiles, drones, anti-tank weapons etc... This conflict makes that clear. It is not a good idea to avoid conflict because the manufacturing is not up to snuff. It is solid defense policy to always be able to defend the nation. Now is the time to rearm. Ukraine could get more troops if it needs to do so. It is a nation of 40 million and can certainly put millions under arms if it had the resources to do so. They need equipment and arms. Currently there are 2.2 million Ukrainians in the military and they could call up another 500,000 but again needs arms and materiel for them. The conscription age was lowered from 27 to 25 years of age btw. The Russian Orthodox Church is a fifth column in the war. Russian Orthodox followers can go to Ukrainian Orthodox services. They are theologically the same. We always seize foreign assets when those nations become hostile. Russia is not a major investor in US securities. Also, we need to stop all the deficit spending.

I'm a soon-to-be 71 year old Englishman Londoner, so no skin in your political games you, our good and dear friends and cousins in the US, play. I don't really know much of Mr. Vance but I have to say what I have seen and heard I like, quite a lot actually. However, I do feel his full breadth of his opinion on Ukraine is suspect, tbh. Too many people of disparite views politically say Ukr are the wrongdoers here, instigated by the CIA coup of 2014 and this war there is the long-term plan of the warmongers.

The comparison with a conflict between Hamas/Palestinians/Hezbollah and Israel, considering that no Arab state is in favor of that bunch (except for lip service) is a false premise. While it is undeniable that there is a large part of innocent victims in Gaza, again, comparing with almost 600 000 soldiers lost by the Ukrainians (plus the civilians) is off scale.
But there is another principle that comes into play in this discussion. Defending the conflict in Ukraine by arguing that Israel is as bad as.... (etc) is no argument. Each case should be looked at on the basis of its own merits.

@MNTrader2012 Germany never came to our border, a few submarines were sighted far away from the East Coast and that was just for show. Germany was indeed strong and Lend Lease was extremely useful but remember that the program was paid back by GB while Ukraine will ask for more in a few months.

You fought in Iraq. You did NOT fight against a near-peer enemy on the plains of Eastern Europe and your 'experience' bears zero resemblance to the war in Ukraine. The terrain is wildly different and unforgiving, there are often no geographic features to use for cover, the enemy has enough air defense to shoot down most aircraft enough that even the US would have needed time to get air superiority and air dominance. That said, Ukrainians (especially around Avdiivka) have reached 1:8 and 1:10 kill ratios blowing away all expectations time and time again. I get it that you are gun-shy and are now turtling from your experiences, deep in the Green Zone loading pallets, but, don't you think the Ukrainians deserve a chance, finally, after proving themselves over and over?

I don't think the Iraq War was a mistake outside of a failure to declare war, which is unconstitutional. I would argue the prosecution of the war, once won in the initial stages was the problem, not the war itself. Had we not have disbanded the military and deBaathized the government, had we sent more troops as Gen. Shinseki advocated, had we thought through the end game and chosen winners and losers or allowed for the Kurds to become independent etc...the outcomes would have been far better, and few would have been opposed to the war.
No one ever knows what the outcomes of war will be, which is why we need to go through the constitutional process and actually declare war, if that is what we want to do.
Supplying Ukraine is not the same as going to war i.e., Iraq. It is in the long-term best interests of the USA to stop Russia from conquering Ukraine. Allowing him to do so, will embolden US enemies worldwide and likely cause larger and more wars.
We need to rebuild the manufacturing base for our military in all areas, artillery rounds, air to air, air to ground missiles, drones, anti-tank weapons etc... This conflict makes that clear. It is not a good idea to avoid conflict because the manufacturing is not up to snuff. It is solid defense policy to always be able to defend the nation. Now is the time to rearm.
Ukraine could get more troops if it needs to do so. It is a nation of 40 million and can certainly put millions under arms if it had the resources to do so. They need equipment and arms. Currently there are 2.2 million Ukrainians in the military and they could call up another 500,000 but again needs arms and materiel for them. The conscription age was lowered from 27 to 25 years of age btw.
The Russian Orthodox Church is a fifth column in the war. Russian Orthodox followers can go to Ukrainian Orthodox services. They are theologically the same.
We always seize foreign assets when those nations become hostile. Russia is not a major investor in US securities. Also, we need to stop all the deficit spending.

We lose 14,000 per annum to murder in the USA and 80-100K to fentanyl and opioids each year. At Antietam, 25,000 Americans were shot down in two days of fighting and that with a population 1/10th what it is today. A little perspective is valuable.
Engaging in Iraq and Afghanistan, likely prevented large scale terror attacks in the USA, which everyone was predicting after 9-11. Taking the war to the enemy did the trick. We devastated AQI and the Taliban and all the other jihadists including ISIS later. You might want to remind yourself why we hear so little about terror these days and not simply take it for granted that you are safe.
