My freind Mattie of "Matties storyland" did a reading of 'Alone' for me. He is meant to be doing a reading of my 'The Bad Bathmat'...but had a family bereavement.
    Thanks for this one.
What can be said about Edgar Poe?....probably the quote from Burges about H G Wells "...the best of the work is very likely to survive English as a living language..." and perhaps simply add - and belong to everyone.

I found the kind of throw-away reference to Ann Radcliffe really interesting. I haven't read any of her work so I can't say really what it's like. But it's interesting to me that Poe obviously assumed at the time of his writing that his readers would be familiar. But now her name is certainly not as widely recognized as his.

Yeah I thought the reference was interesting as well. And to your point about her name not being as well known it took me a minute to realize the reference.

Her work is on my list and I'm looking forward to reading it.. but it might be a while. I've got a pretty long list. *Chuckle*
