    Have read it many times. Loved to hear your 'take' on it. Personally I wouldn't necessarily say I 'like' it in the conventional sense....but I find myself going back to it. Probably because it is so 'applicable'. Tolkien hated allegory and Loved applicability. Obviously in our times - it brings to mind the A.I. issues. Have always thought that there is - something we don't always get to see. 😂...the 'female gaze'. There is probably a lot of P. Shelley and Lord Byron in Victor Frankenstein. Wonder if they noticed what Mary had done?

    I read it long ago as a kid. I liked it and I can certainly see why it is so well regarded, but it isn't something I would read again. I didn't really develop a connection with any of the characters.

    • @Gothicstorytelling
      @Gothicstorytelling 10 дней назад

      I do think it's hard to form a connection to these characters maybe because it's written from Frankenstein's perspective.

    Brilliant. Will listen to the entire playlist when it's finished. Have a story out on 'The Midnight Man' on Sunday. 'The Tears of Nemesis' - let myself go with that one lol....the 'monster' is very beautiful. And very racist!!....one of the reasons the entire 'woke' movement is condemned is that they are rather stupid - by not showing the horror of 'the other side'. Perhaps because they refuse to use certain words. Hopefully I've 'got round the problem'. Aside from which - it's important to understand the monsters.....

    My freind Mattie of "Matties storyland" did a reading of 'Alone' for me. He is meant to be doing a reading of my 'The Bad Bathmat'...but had a family bereavement. Thanks for this one. What can be said about Edgar Poe?....probably the quote from Burges about H G Wells "...the best of the work is very likely to survive English as a living language..." and perhaps simply add - and belong to everyone.

    One of my favourites. Also a wonderful example of what Poe called 'unity of effect'. After all, Amontiad is indeed very difficult to tell from Sherry. Just as Montrisore and Fortunado are deeply connected....

    Your doing a brilliant job with these. Please consider doing an Arthur Machen. An obvious - and massive - problem is, far too few female narrator's. Basically in the case of 'The White People', perhaps the greatest weird tale ever written, you need a girl to read the 'green book' part.
