      It starts with contrast. Alot of people forget that. A TV or monitor without good contrast is meh as you dont get that depth in the picture and it looks washed out / bland and milky as light bleed smears into the image giving the "whole picture" an off look

    My GP850 makes the exact same sound when you pinch it on the top so I'm afraid the bad build quality is a feature and not a rarity. Then again, it doesn't really matter as long as you're careful not to damage the monitor while moving it, to me at least.
    Apart from that the true downsides are only minor: the fact that IPS panels don't have great contrast ratio and that this monitor's stand can't swivel which is a bit annoying. But considering the price of 300 euros (I got it when it was in sale for a moment), I'm very happy to own it tbh.

    • @DoubleTakeTechUk
      @DoubleTakeTechUk  10 месяцев назад

      You are right, I agree.
      Only reason for that is that we are a tiny channel and we didnt have any other IPS to compare against.
      Also - back when we did this review the Odyssey G7 was in a battle against all the LG IPS panels so we thought it was a useful perspective to compare them.

    I have the G7 for about 1 month now but my main problem is the color uniformity . the top half is brighter than the bottom . the bottom half is darker . u can realize it in white background or if u moved something from the top to the bottom. besides in games specially a game like apex contrast got changed if u moved ur mouse up and down the color of things got dimmed in bottom than top half . so did u have this problem or ur unit have good uniformity

      Have you tried turning off local dimming and dynamic brightness? Turn them off. They are not worth it. They might be the reason why you are seeing these changes. Maybe.

    I choose if before the price and 180 hz (adaptatif sync off :( ) not so far to 240 hz like G7 and LG supported 10 bit colors depth with nano ips panel ==> good image quality, and i hope i dont get problem with the contraste.

      If you consider the price difference, the LG is a big value for money buy. I think you will not be displeased. Of course, you bought it from Amazon, so if you find that actually you still want more from your monitor you can always return it and I would recommend the G7. It’s faster, much faster then the ASus.

    Hi, actually i want to buy one of these monitors LG 27GP850-B vs MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD both at the same price 420€ i dont care very much about the contrast, which do you think is the best for FPS games and why? thanks!
    btw what model is the mount you bought on this video?

    • @DoubleTakeTechUk
      @DoubleTakeTechUk  2 года назад +3

      Very good question!
      The LG is faster for response time (about 1ms, according to hardware unboxed’s measurements gray to gray) and you can over clock it 180hz.
      That’s about it. Everything else, the MSI is so close, and it has an MBR mode that actually works, so motion clarity, in practice, will be better.
      I struggle to ignore the contrast ratio, but if I did, I’d still buy the msi if they both cost the same.
      The difference in speed is so minute, that id never really notice it.
      At the same price, the MSI is therefore better IMO.
      I hope this helps!! Btw, for absolute FPS, I think the Odyssey G7 is a great buy right now, it’s dropped to about €500 euros. Different class in terms of speed, if you can live with the curve.
      The mounts are as follows;
      The Duronic (no swivel function but you can swivel from the base, the most space saving I could find and the one I’m using);
      www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-DM12X1-Monitor-Stand-Profile/dp/B07KGDC1FC
      The Kensington (has swivel but takes a bit more space)

      @@DoubleTakeTechUk Thank you very much for the information! i think i will buy the 27GL850-B because it will arrive like 1-2 weeks faster to my house than the MSI, btw motion clarity on the 27GL850-B its already very good right?
      Yes i bought the G7 240hz 1000r curvature for 500€ 1 month ago but i returned it because the monitor doesn't have the space i need to put it far from me, not even with my mount, and i didn't enjoy the 1000r because it's like too much curvate for my taste, if it was 1800r instead of 1000r probably i would have kept it.

    It's a great monitor! Absolutely fantastic value for your money. You an tell that LG actually tests their products. It goes with anything you want to pair it with and to my surprise, you an actually set it to 4K with a max of 60hz. I really enjoyed your review. Good points all around. I'm curious though, have you played with the game modes? Do they actually change more than the contrast, brightness and stuff? I've set it to RTS as that looked best to me. I heard a reviewer saying you should set it to srgb for best colour accuracy. I tried it but, didn't look good at all. What is your opinion on this?

    • @DoubleTakeTechUk
      @DoubleTakeTechUk  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for the awesome comment man! In terms of modes, have game mode 1 tweaked for visual games, game mode 2 for fps and and i actually use the rts mode for rts games a lot. Reader mode is good for when I am doing work.
      Srgb does not look good I agree, I used that exclusively when doing any video editing or photo editing.
      It’s annoying to keep changing modes, but it’s the only way to get the most out of your monitor for each purpose. Hope that helps!

    Don't know if you'll respond but I'm coming from a 2012-2013 benq RL2455hm specifically made for competitive fps on consoles like cod/halo. I think MLG used this monitor back in cod ghosts, been a while idk lol this monitor claims 1ms, and you're saying most manufacturers "lie" about response times. So who really knows what the real response time is on my monitor. You said playing on the "fast" setting is 4.5ms. Which just sounds terrible. I mainly play cod and a few single players like dark souls etc. Am I gonna notice that 4.5ms compared to my old monitor? During the video you said that these monitors have very low input lag, this LG has gotta be better than my old ass benq rl2455hm lol. I'll being playing on a ps5.

    • @DoubleTakeTechUk
      @DoubleTakeTechUk  Год назад +1

      Hi FXST Fashion, apologies it has taken some time to get to your comment.
      Lie is maybe a strong word, manipulate would be better 😅
      So, the 1ms is the best time the monitor was able to perform in a certain situation / setting. It never really translate to your real world usage the same.
      If a company is claiming 4ms vs 1ms, you should know that the 1ms should in theory be faster in general use.
      I looked up the RL2455hm monitor and that has an average response time of 10ms when tested by displaylag.com. So you are definitely going to see a big improvement.
      I hope that helps!

      Hi Khant, it depends on how accurate you need your colours to be. Personally, I would not recommend it if you are really precise about colours.
      For general use and chopping up videos / transitions, its perfect. Just the colours are not the top picks.

      If you are using freesync, normally extended is recommended but it may introduce screen flickering and reduce the refresh rate. Settings video coming out soon 🤓

    is this monitor good for mac mini too? Please help

    • @DoubleTakeTechUk
      @DoubleTakeTechUk  2 года назад

      I’m not an expert on macs, but I know that they are excellent at content creation. So, the colour performance and maybe HDR become important. It depends on your use case - if you are just using the max for daily use, then this monitor is a bargain.
      But if you really want to use it for content creation, and better connectivity like usb c, then I would recommend dishing out for something like the LG 32UN880-B UltraFine Ergo.
      Personally, if I have a Mac mini and MacBook, I’d like to have usb c connectivity, 4K and the absolute best colours. Basically, find similar specs to Apple’s own displays (extremely expensive, I know!). Otherwise, if feel like I’m missing out on the beautiful (albeit controlled and suffocating IMO) experience of macOS.
      Hope this helps…
