  • It’s yarrow season, she has arrived! In this video I take you to meet her, get rained on, forget to put on my microphone as I rush to the willow trees for cover (you’ll notice the difference in sound quality!), almost fall off the bench, a leg falls off the bench, I run out of vodka and Midnight the cat almost knocks over the camera!
    During this video yarrow taught me to go with the flow, be in the moment and have a good sense of humour! But find out all the other amazing medicinal qualities she has and how you can make her into a tincture to have her healing ability in your medicine cabinet all year long.
    It really helps me if you subscribe to my channel and share this video to get this information out there. Share to empower people with knowledge: / salenawalker

    Hello Selena!! I just harvested my yarrow and a funny story for you. I used my electric dehydrator to dry out her leaves so I could store them properly and i side my tiny house with the windows closed, I accidentally created my own sweat lodge! I thought why am I sweating like this? 🤣🤣🤣 Well, of coirse it was the oils in the yarrow leaves as they escaped into the air.

    I use it all the time for a multitude of reasons! My favorite yarrow grows high in the mountains near Telluride, Colorado, as it is highly potent. I harvest and dry enough to last through winter. It's a beautiful immune system booster and my favorite go to for cuts, scrapes and scratches, especially if they get infected!. I had broken glass in my foot that became infected and yarrow took it out quickly. Plant yarrow around your yard and it deters mosquitoes and other flying pests

    My brother was ordered by HOA to spray the pretty pink yarrow that invaded his lawn so I pulled it all up by the roots and planted it all over my yard and in pots, now I have enough to make a salve, and I've aready used some to turboheal a stab wound from my dirty garden shears

    Love your vids! Great sense of natural law, much appreciated. Recognising the spirit and connecting with is so important. I want to share this: two decades ago while hiking in the mtns I punctured my sole so deeply that it became quite infected and within days a streak was going up my leg showing I had a blood infection. I found some yarrow nearby and packed the wound, changing it a few times a day and cleaning out the pus. Within three days the streak had disappeared, a fever I had been developing was also gone and the wound healed nicely. Yarrow indeed is one of my favorite medicines I rely on.

      I always say the medicine you need appears in your backyard! Regarding your specific question on your individual case - It is very difficult for me to offer advice from messages. As a naturopath I access the whole picture looking at current symptoms from head to toe including physical, emotional and spiritual symptoms. I also explore the clients external world to be able to understand their internal world at cellular level. I would also need to know what your current diet, hydration you consume and details of any medications you take as there could be contraindications. This process takes an hour and half in my consultation and results in me being able to give the client a personal prescription that works with the body not against the body. Focusing on hydration, food, purposeful supplementation / herbal medicine and naturopathic techniques.
      It would not be ethical for me to make suggestions without knowing the full picture as this would be prescribing in the same manner as allopathic medicine. Which is very unlikely to be beneficial.
      I hope you understand and it makes sense to you. This video may explain it in a different way:

    Really interesting Salena thanls,I look forward to making the tincture, I've made the flower essence to help strengthen psychological boundaries, and I'm guessing that this ties up with your mention ofnysrroe being a doctor plant and it strengthening other plants that it grows by. Do the different coloured yarrows uzed in tinctures have differing properties?

    • @salenawalker
      @salenawalker  3 года назад +2

      I would go for the wild yarrow which is usually white but you sometimes see some very pale pink ones. I wouldn’t make a tincture from the cultivated bright colour varieties. Wild is always the best for medicine and remember wild doesn’t have to mean not in your garden as quite often we have these green allies (so called weeds) waiting to say hello in our garden 💚🌱💚

    Wouldn't making the tincture fresh and not dried cause mold in the tincture from the moisture from the plant ?

    • @salenawalker
      @salenawalker  2 года назад +4

      You say in your comment that you wouldn’t make a tincture from fresh or dried tincture so I’m unsure what your question is? I make tinctures from fresh plants when they are in season and dried if I run out of the fresh material. No mould will grow if it is in an airtight container with the right percentage alcohol. It would only grow mould if you started diluting it below 25%. I make a note of the quantity of alcohol used and the amount I press out and I never end up with more so I know water isn’t diluting the mixture. I also fill the jar right up to the top with alcohol so if water excreted out of the plant it would burst through the jar and leak and it doesn’t. Hope that helps to clear things up ❤️🌱❤️

      Not sure what part of the world you are in but here in the UK the yarrow season is quite long and there's still fresh flowers opening here. I wouldn't make medicine with flowers that are drying up and dying. You need to make medicine with the freshest most vibrant looking plants to make vibrant medicine. The other reason to stay away from not healthy looking plants is in case they have been sprayed by anything. Something to look forward to for next year x

      I only work with all aerial parts. I know some traditions work with the root. I work with both the leaves and flowers for medicinal uses. My instinct is to keep the root in the ground as the aerial parts are super medicinal so there’s no need to dig up. • @salenawalker

      It’s your tincture. You are the herbal creator and artist working with the plants. You need to check the plant qualities and contraindications to make sure it works for you. If it was me I would make a yarrow tincture and a black pepper tincture separate so you can experiment with them separately. As you may want different ratios at different times. Black pepper is a super strong one and can be too powerful in many situations. Remember to not underestimate the value of simply adding black pepper to your food and warm drinks ❤️🌱❤️

    Do you wash this yarrow before tincturing?

    • @salenawalker
      @salenawalker  2 года назад

      No as you don’t want to introduce extra water into the tincture as it’ll dilute the alcohol.

    What kind of alcohol ?????

    • @salenawalker
      @salenawalker  Год назад

      Vodka would be the best. A spirit around 40-45% ABV.

      Thank you for your comment. My intention is always to respect all beings. I may not always get it right but that is my intention. I refer to plants in binary terms as I find it disrespectful to call any living being an it so it is my way of respecting the plant as a living entity. I am assuming you meant to say that you would like me to use non-binary terms. I am totally open to be educated how would you invite me to refer to the plant in this context taking on board that I am being very conscious not to use the word ‘it’. I really welcome your offering of language 💚

    Achilea. Pronounced with a k. No different than who it was named after. Achiles.

      I pronounce everything wrong. Between my accent and Latin not being my strong point I’ve no chance 🤣Thank you for the clarity.

    Mine have been hanging for a year can I still use them and store them?

    • @salenawalker

      I am assuming you mean drying by hanging. Dried herbs should be away from light and have air flow and away from dust, whilst drying and then stored in the dark in an airtight container 🌱❤️🌱
