This is one of my favorite songs by the Chili Peppers and Frusciante’s playing on here is a perfect case study for how to make use of all 5 of the CAGED chord forms in different ways - arpeggiating, strumming, fingerpicking, adding hendrix like embellishments, partial chords and triads and 5 or 6 sting voicings. Then there is also the 2 key changes and parallel major and minor, modulating up a fifth....it's awesome! So much we go into here! I hope you enjoy it!Chapters:

Really wonderful in depth of this interview! But could you PLEASE do a video like this over the parts he plays after this? Like his R&B funk style and the outro part where he’s just absolutely shredding? I am in awe every time I watch the last couple parts. Thanks!

This is great. But in the second/third verses he sometimes uses the middle finger to slide into the C#m where the video had it as pinky and ring finger. I’ve only really noticed him doing this on this specific video. I still can’t quite do it like John does here in real time but it looks so interesting. Gotta grind it

Just did that with a tape measure. From the skin crease where the hand meets the wrist to the top of my middle finger with my hand flat, it's exactly 8 inches.
