- In this weekly vlog of Barefoot Travels we upgrade Littlefoot! Yes our dinghy is our car, it is our main form of transport to land so it is very important.
We had the opportunity to change our mercury 9.9 for a 15 horse power. Maybe it sounded too good to be true, but in the end we kept our 9.9 and the 15 was scrapped so we got to keep some spare parts from it. Successfully fixing our engine.

If you can't find a local guy to hone the 15's cylinders, you can make a 'drill hone' with a 12" dowel, a piece of old broomstick works. Drill a hole in one end, insert a lag bolt and cut off the head, put a hose clamp around that end to stop splitting, then cut a slit about 6" up the other end. You can fold a sheet of wet/dry sandpaper in half, slide it into the slit and lock it in place with a second hose clamp. Chuck it in a drill, insert it in the bore like an impeller in a pump, squirt on lots of oil and power on! Just keep it moving up and down so it leaves criss-crossing 'X' like scratches. If it doesn't press on the walls enough, a bit of foam rubber stuffed into the fold of the sandpaper will 'chub' it up. You want a slightly 'rough' finish, not a shiny 'polish', it helps hold lube for the rings to slide on...

Yamaha 9.9 2stroke change the reeds only and it becomes a 15hp . I have done it ,as have many no carb or jet changes .In Canada anything over 10hp has to be registired , this way it says 9.9 but its a 15 . I looked at the parts manual for both engines and its true the only different part is the reeds. I upgraded the reeds to Boyesen racing reeds and its scary on my 270 hard bottom walker bay I raced a 15hp and left him . Stay off throttle and it still gets gas mileage of the 9.9

Hi Davey please dont get rid of the 9.9, they are so hard to find as they are now priceless, because eveybody keeps them. But mate if u have to, then go for it. U can bore out the 9.9 too.

Diesel outboards light enough for small dinghys never existed.

We do that quite often but a lot of the time it’s not good enough to include in the videos

It fits! We tested before we bought it
@@BarefootTravels I can’t fit one that big on mine, the motor sticks out behind the dingy making it too long. I also don’t want it touching my boat.
We take the engine off when we lift it up

Cute? Nah, not to me, but glasses DO suit Davey, and seriously, if you need them, then wear them. There is no point in struggling and squinting purely for vanity, and if a gorgeous young Lady like Erica fancies you when you wear them, then why would you not wear them?
