Sir you are a Genius. Many videos are on RUclips on error codes but your video is the absolute best. I was about to call the expensive repair man or buy a new washer. But because of your amazing video I saved between $200 to $500.00 dollars. My wife sends you a great big thank you.

My 4 year old Whirlpool washer stopped working literally two days ago. The power is on but the start button doesn't work. It's a laundry machine and you use it every once in a week at least. I tried to figure out why and how this happened, so I opened the top panel, of course not much but only seeing the green light blinking on the control board which is useless. I contacted the Whirlpool CS, and wasted my time for nothing since all they said was to contact the local technician which will take days to come. I decided to just buy a new one from LG since my mom had one single model since 1997 when my parents built a new house as a gift, still running (recently motor failed and my dad got a refurbished one and replaced it).
But then I found this video. This is great, I mean how to diagnosis is the matter I needed to know but Whirlpool CS didn't tell me for "customer's safety issue and any possible damage to the appliance" - I already said if it doesn't work, then I will just disassemble the entire machine and get rid off it, I don't know what more damage can be happened.
Now I have another way to "try". You are awesome, Ben. Thank you so much, Whirlpool really should appreciate and reward your work, especially the way you prolong the life span of the products more than the manufacturer.

Ben, Thank You for making this video, you just saved me a ton of money and time! Similar to what you described, my black keys were almost entirely unresponsive, so I used the white keys to access the diagnostic mode just like you showed, reviewed and wrote down my error codes, then reset/cleared the codes like you showed, then hit the power button a couple of times and everything lit up like normal. I was then able to start the machine and it seems to be running as good as new again. THANK YOU!

    Whirlpool Headquarters
    Benton Harbor Michigan…
For 10 years, 3 days a week, I stayed at the Inn at Harbor Shores Hotel in Benton Harbor.
At the bar in the evening, I regularly had chats with whirlpool engineers, designers, vice presidents, etc from all over the world.
I regularly asked all of them what’s happened???
Why has everything became so complex???
    Why is everything junk???
The general explanation I was given was engineers simply design in unnecessarily complex operations to keep them employed!
    WOW !!!

Thanks Ben, you're a lifesaver. Saved me a service call and possibly having to buy another washer. I have a slightly different model WFW6620HC0 in question and the front control panel went out suddenly. Tried all possible reset procedures found online...non worked. Came across this video and tried entering the Diagnostic Mode as described with the three buttons (black and white) but non worked so I tried the last three (white) buttons "Extra Rinse" "Pre Soaked" and "Load & Go" in the same sequence as Ben described and VOILA! Used the third button to cycle thru the error codes and cleared them. Tried exiting the Diagnostic Mode by pressing the Power button but that didn't work so I just unplug the cord and plug it back in a few mins later and everything worked like a charm. Subscribed and ten thumbs up for Ben!

I have this exact washer. My dryer started making a squeaking sound and we called in our warranty. They sent out a repairman who not only did NOT fix the squeaking but messed around with the control panel when he did not have to. Now my dryer has to run two times for 1 load to get dryer and during the run both the "more time" and "less time" buttons are lit up. I definitely don't want to call them out again but I would like my dryer fixed. Thank you I will watch this video in completion more than once for sure

Thank you for this very helpful video. I have one of these washer at home and since we installed a water softener, I get the LoFL code during rinse cycle ONLY. When I run the diagnostics, everything works fine. When I run a quick cycle everything works fine. Only when I go with the Normal program, the washer fills OK, starts washing and about an hour into the program throws a LoFL code. I cannot find what's wrong. When I bypass the water softener system, everything works fine. Any ideas where I could look?

I have the exact same model, WFW5620HW0. I really appreciate the video, but unfortunately I couldn't get the diagnostics mode to do anything useful. First of all, it wouldn't go into diagnostics mode with the 9 button presses (1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3) within 8 seconds. Oddly, mine required 11 button presses (1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2). In diagnostics mode it did show an error code, F6E2, but the system didn't respond to 1-2-3 commands as Ben showed (and as shown in the Repair Tech Sheet). The display and LED behavior in response to button presses was completely different, and completely useless! HOWEVER, I did figure out how to fix my washer. I'm posting the sequence that worked for me just in case this might help someone else. By the way, I had this same problem with this washer two years ago and the fix was essentially the same.
    1. Unplugged unit for several hours (in my case, overnight).
    2. Plugged the unit back in. (Fiddled more with diagnostics mode, but I don’t think this helped at all)
    3. Waited about 1-2 hours and the unit started putting out a double-chime every 10 minutes.
    4. After about an hour or two the display started showing a different error code, F6E1 (which is different than the F6E2 code it was showing the day before when in diagnostics mode)
    5. Waited another 4 hours.
    6. Pressed the Power button once and the unit came back to life.

I too want to thank you for this video. Whirlpool customer service is anything but interested in servicing the customer. All they want to do is schedule a service visit. I do have one question for you if I may - I have this exact same model. It retains any wash mode modifiers indefinitely. The manual indicates that unplugging the washer for 30 seconds should reset it to defaults, but IT DOES NOT. I have literally left it unplugged for hours and it still retains the modified wash modes. Does the service manual offer a factory reset key press sequence? If so, I'd be forever in your debt as my modes are frequently out of source and getting back to defaults with the manual matrix is tedious. Thanks!!

@@bensappliancesandjunk True but impact drivers are so common now at the local hardware stores. You need a fairly decent screwdriver to avoid stripping the majority of poorly coated screws.
How about using a very cheap impact from the local hardware? You need a lot of torque and some older viewers don't have the muscle strength.
Comment sounds wrong the way I write since the idea you are doing makes sense for the ultra budget

Just replaced Expensive GE that I had for 3 years and motor went out. Used this washer successfully one load. Now pressing start button produces a red flashing lock symbol a few seconds with panel lights on and then washer eventually turns off and will not start!
Trying the 3 button 3x in 8 seconds does not produce codes. Do the buttons need to be pressed with power on or off, or unplugged a few minutes first? I’ve tried all of the above.

Hi Ben! Have you ever come across a non listed error code? I have a newer model of the front load washer displayed in this video, and in the middle of some wash cycles it will beep and display 3 dashes "-:--" where the remaining time should typically displayed. It still completes the cycle, but I haven't noticed this happening until recently. Have had the washer a little over a year now. Any help would be great!

    • @shoyrushoyru
      @shoyrushoyru Год назад

I have the same exact issue on my 4 year old whirlpool washer. The cycle seemingly completes, but instead of displaying "END" it displays three dashes. This happens at least twice a week, as I have a family of 6 who are constantly washing on most days. Maybe a small handful of times the machine showed the three dashes possibly without completing the cycle--as clothes still smelled dirty or smelled strongly of detergent.
I have also experienced that during cycle selection, the touch buttons for optional selections sometimes refuse presses until I change my cycle and come back and try again, to which they usually respond. I'm talking something like setting a normal cycle, and then going to change the temperature of the wash, but the machine beeps and won't let me change temperature as if its locked in place-- when the machine hasn't even been started yet. Overall, I've been locked out of pushing many buttons occasionally in the past--where the machine just beeps at me and refuses to take any presses--resulting in having to power the machine off and on again.
Other times even the power button ceases to respond, and I had to unplug the machine from the wall and plug it back in. Somehow I want to blame a software issue potentially? As the issue doesn't happen all the time and has no permanent failures, as the buttons work majority of the time... It's definitely confusing.
Software issues peak my interest again, as my matching dryer also has the same issues with the control buttons at times. It's almost as if parts of the control board lock up when you press buttons in an order it doesn't like--only to snap out of it when you make a big change like selecting a different cycle, or just powering the machine off and on again.
I've got model WFW8620HC1, if that's at all relevant to your own troubleshooting similarities.

Verify you're getting electric to the board. With the top off, unplug, w a t for 30sec then plug back in. Listen for clicks, ans there may be a light on the board. If you never hear a click it's either the board or something before it like a noise filter

check your user manual. mine has a section about detergent concentration and how to change from the factory default of 2x concentration. they also have a section of how to calculate the concentration of your detergent by doing some math with the amount in the bottle and the amount of loads it claims to wash.
My manual for my washer says the following:
      About Detergent Concentration
Today’s liquid HE detergents are concentrated. Most brands of
concentrated HE detergent will show the level of concentration
      on the bottle.
However, if the detergent bottle does not give the concentration,
it can be easily calculated. Just divide the package size in fluid
ounces by the number of loads. Then refer to the chart below
      to find the concentration.
If you do not get your desired cleaning results, try using a lower
concentration number. If you have excess suds, try using a
      higher concentration number.
If detergent concentration is not 2x, change the detergent
concentration setting by touching and holding TEMP and SOIL
      for three seconds.
Concentration | Number of ounces ÷ number of loads
      2X 1.5-2.49 (44.4 mL-73.6 mL)
      3X 0.9-1.49 (26.6 mL-44.1 mL)
      4X 0.7-0.89 (20.7 mL-26.3 mL)
      5X 0.5-0.69 (14.8 mL-20.4 mL)
      6X 0.3-0.49 (8.9 mL-14.5 mL)
      8X < 0.29 (8.6 mL)

We've had this washing machine (or one that looks identical) for about 6 months. I'm not getting any error codes, but this washer drains horribly! I've never owned a washer where I have to wipe dog hair and clothes lint out of the drum with paper towels before washing another load. We only have one dog, so it's not like we live on a farm or something. Seems to me it isn't draining properly. Has anyone else had this problem?
I don't know if it's an issue that can be fixed or if it's just how the washer is made. If anyone can enlighten me on this, I'd truly appreciate it!

Hello Ben, Writing from Big Island Hawaii. Question...I have a Hot Point Washer I think it's about 7 or 9 yes old works pretty good but lately the drain pump works kinda intermittently, n cycle seems a bit off?? I'm wondering if it got off cycle, n drain pump problems after using the RESET knob too many times? I use this RESET quite often because it seems that the water level isn't high as it should be for Large loads. Anyways have any suggestions as to why this happens. Tnk U ...Jesse ...

    • @bensappliancesandjunk
      @bensappliancesandjunk  2 года назад

No. A reset knob has nothing to do with a drain pump. If the load size selector doesn't seem like its working well and its not filling up as much, it could either be the selector switch itself which is likely a pressure switch, or the pressure hose itself.
