Let's be real here, Rock Band 3 innovated the genre and brought in a keyboard, 83 tracks of music and actually took the extra step to try an teach people how to play a guitar. Guitar Hero: WoR brought in super powers, transforming characters, a unique art style and the entirety of Rush 2112 (which later became RB dlc.) Clearly Guitar Hero was happy to remain just a game whereas Rock Band elevated how people connect to music. Pro mode combined with 5+ years of dlc tracks at your disposal and yet people still complain about RB 3 not being as good as RB 2, or even Guitar Hero: WoR? Now that's just blind favoritism right there.
@mycoolgoodvideos don't forget that it was GH that launched the rhythm games to popularity. it may be dying under all the marketing labels, but it did it's part to give some people entertainment.
Thing is this would make me actually want to try real guitar. I love playing games & music games in general so rock band could very well motivate me to actually try. I do agree about the mad catz guitar though. im waiting to get the actual real fully stringed guitar they are releasing for the game.
It;s a shame how since the release of this the music genre slowly died down... It's like as if I'm the only one who still plays them. Harmonix definately needs to make a FANTASTIC comeback game.

Only thing I disagreed with was the Pro Guitar bashing. The Pro Guitar seems to be a pretty awesome learning tool, or at least a good first step into playing the real guitar. Seems to be worth the investment, especially if you go all the way and buy a Squier, which doubles as a real guitar.
holy fuck Rock Band 3 fails in keyboard songs. Where are the European metal bands like Nightwish, Children of Bodom, or Sonata Arctica? Galneryus has to be on RB3 too.
@Jacksonrox13 I doubt you can. The Squier for RB3 has special sensor on the fretboard that can tell what position your hand is in and such, so I doubt that your guitar has the same.
@Jacksonrox13 Yeah you can as long as your guitar has a MIDI port all you have to do is just buy the MIDI-Pro adapter for whatever console you have Rock Band 3 on & it'll work for the game's Pro Guitar & Bass mode.
i'll likely pick this up, i don't own a music game anymore and have been waiting for a new one with a song list i actually like, plus if i get the ones from rb 1 and 2 ill have plenty, i do agree with the whole pro gitar being pointless though, no point trying to replicate the real thing if the whole idea is that it's just a game, no point in taking it to the next level this late

I've been playing guitar for five years now and I still picked the RB3 Fender Squier up (not the Mad Catz one shown in this video; the Squier is an actual guitar/not MIDI). That, and I can say that RB3 teaches guitar well for a game. Some people may just want to learn to play songs and not fully invest in learning the instrument. That's where Rock Band steps in and fills the gap. Though, of course, you'll never learn to read sheet music in RB3.
I miss crowd sing alongs because it felt so exciting hearing it in any surround sound system. But I can live without it. I'm buying this game for xmas.
Neither Rock Band nor Guitar Hero are companies like nigeleckzdee said. Rock Band is funded by EA, and Guitar Hero Activison. The producers of Guitar Hero decided to discontinue the franchise so that they could focus on others. In my opinion, Rock Band is better for people who want to have fun with these games, while Guitar Hero offers a greater challenge. Of course this doesn't mean that there is no challenge in Rock Band, there certainly is. Just not as much was Guitar Hero is famous for.
Stop buying cheap plastic toys and go buy the real deal? The Fender Squier is the real deal and can be bought for use with RB3, so IGN didn't even do their research before doing their own review. Professional review my ass.

@FavioRiveros Maybe they will get the real deal at some point. If you check the RB Forums, you'll see plenty of people thanking the Rock Band games for getting them into an actual instrument. They started off as just curious gamers, then the game got them into music. Thus, they bought an actual instrument whilst playing the game. That's what many people don't understand. These games aren't a substitute for the real thing; they're merely games.
can somebody help me ive played rockband eversince the first one came out and im playing 3 again after a year and it has been in its case the whole entire time and i was just playing and my game has never done this before but it started to just stop in the middle of gameplay and it goes right back to the game system menu can somebody tell me what is going onb
This game deserves a 9.1 AT LEAST... It does NOT look the same, you can see ALOT of changes in graphics, and new designs like Pro Guitar, and Pro Drums.. In other words, think of other games and sequels, Gears 1 and 2, Halo Series, Pokemon, Guitar Hero, Etc, THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME. IGNorant. Just because you suck at Rock Band doesn't mean you should give it such a noob score...
Um, "songs that are already on a GH game"? There are well over 2000 songs available, with plenty of your metal. These games are for casual players. Most people playing at a party for fun would prefer Centerfold to a crazy Dream Theater song they would fail 10 times. The "hardcore" still have the option for more metal through DLC. And RB has tons more metal than GH can ever wish for.

And it's being made by Fender themselves, unlike the Mustang, which is made by MadCatz. The Mustang is now available in Game Stop and will be available in Best Buy by next month. And it will be available in Wal-Mart by January. Soo, if you want to just invest a little more and save up until March, you can get the real deal itself. Or just get a Mustang.

Setlist, is the worst setlist in all Rock Band games. Career mode? ARE YOU SERIOUS?! WHAT CAREER MODE DO YOU SEE? Look at RB1 and RB2's career mode and then look at this one. Nowhere near as much depth and replay value. Keyboard is fun? Sure. There's a couple songs. Unfortunately there isn't very much notes for all the songs in the game for the keys to be even worth playing. And your only negative is even wrong too. This game looks completely different from RB1 and 2. Pretty much one of the only things I've noticed and liked from this game.

@DanTheMan33088 With the addition of the Pro mode, I think Rock Band 3 is actually both a video game AND a music simulator. Of course, your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking to get out of it. But I agree that this review is not up to par. And I don't think there's anything wrong with the Mustang guitar controller. If you're looking to learn a few things on a real guitar and step up from the old RB game play, it's certainly a good option.

Graphics are irrelevant in a game where you stare at colored squares! the drums can literally teach you how to play, the keyboard would work too but that guitar will probably just make things a lot harder for you to learn, I'v been playin 10 years trust me, there are no short cuts with guitar

The reviewer obviously hasn't heard of the Fender that Harmonix is also releasing with FULL STRINGS (no buttons for playing notes) that can be plugged into an amp and function as a real electronic guitar. /facepalm If you're going to review pro guitar mode, play the real guitar, too and not just the buttoned one. -_-
Did he just flame them for including the pro guitar? Sounds to me like one of those whiners that kept bashing people for playing the original guitar hero because they should "just learn to play a real guitar instead".
You know, I hope he knows that most good guitars and keyboards range between $600 and $2500. As the Mustang is only $150 and the Squier REAL GUITAR/ controller hybrid is only $280. Most Fenders that I see at my local pawn shop and at the mall are over $500. So, if any of you want a cheap, but good guitar that can interact with your game, Fender and MadCatz are the guys to look at. And we all should thank Harmonix for this whole idea in the first place. Hell, Guitar Hero is just trash now to me.
I am disapointed with Rock Band store, there are almost none scandivian metal bands (ensiferum, wintersun, in flames, dimmu borgir etc) which in my opinion is the most melodic right now. I guess labeling of genres is some indication of how poor it is; there are no metal subgenres it just says 'Metal'. :(
Is there still downloadable content online for Rockband? I just bought guitar hero but the online store seems to be down so I cant download anything there......which sucks!

@Jacobnelz44 Since when do we go by judging songs that we've heard of? Listen to it, then judge it. I didn't know any of the songs in RB3, minus a few (like 10 of them). Yet, I ended up loving them in the end. I even got to find out the names of songs that I didn't know the name of, but knew the tune of. That, and the hardcore Rock Band community likes songs that are fun to play, not necessarily good to listen to. The casual crowd is left out partly due to that.

Guitar Hero finally did something right, they made a game with Megadeth in it and rockband puts a keyboard in the game thats supposed to be about a ROCKband. I think rockband kinda fucked up not just over song selection but a lame addition to a rock band.
I've declared that a great deal of these mainstream reviewers obviously don't review the game that much- they look for as many problems (rational or irrational) as they can, and point it out. Unless it's Call of Duty or something.

I'veplayed RB3 for a combined total of at least 5 hours. Comparing the charts, RB3 is much easier. Just compare the expert guitar chart for Free Bird in RB3 with that of Fury of the Storm from GH:WoR. My biggest compaint is the crappy timing window that RB3 has. Everything else is forgivable. My complains might be superficial, but there are only superficial differences in the games. Get over it.
well actually they are both made by the same company, Harmonix, funded by EA and are published by Activision, you got your facts a little wrong buddy. but as harmonix discontinued guitar hero and kept rock band it shows which is the more promising game. and guitar hero is not more challenging than rock band, it is more unrealistic as its maps the keyboard notes but it does have more notes. on the other hand, rockband has a much smaller window of opportunity to hit said notes, equally hard.
hi, i would like to buy this game for my boyfriend who likes playing drums. i found The rock band 3 on ebay and the game comes with Wireless Pro Drums & Cymbals. Do i need anything else to be able to play? There is no guitar or piano in the set i am buying. I am not bothered about them i just want to be able to play drums. With the addition of the Pro mode, I think Rock Band 3 is actually both a video game AND a music simulator. Of course, your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking to get out of it. But I agree that this review is not up to par. And I don't think there's anything wrong with the Mustang guitar controller. If you're looking to learn a few things on a real guitar and step up from the old RB game play, it's certainly a good option.
@Scarman196 He was talking about buying the Fender Squier that works with RB3. Just cash out a $100 more to get that guitar instead of the Mad Catz one.
Graphics are irrelevant in a game where you stare at colored squares! the drums can literally teach you how to play, the keyboard would work too but that guitar will probably just make things a lot harder for you to learn, I'v been playin 10 years trust me, there are no short cuts with guitar

ok so i dont own any rockband game but i want to get rb3. would i have to buy rb2 or 1 to get the songs from that disk or could i just download them from the store?

If you have a Xbox 360 and the EA version of the game you can download custom songs from A place called C3 (It has lots of stuff from The Beatles, Queen,Pink Floyd, Rolling stones and any other band you can think of)
The reviewer obviously hasn't heard of the Fender that Harmonix is also releasing with FULL STRINGS (no buttons for playing notes) that can be plugged into an amp and function as a real electronic guitar. /facepalm
If you're going to review pro guitar mode, play the real guitar, too and not just the buttoned one. -_-
i cant decide whether to get this or rock band 2. i know rb2 is supposed to have better songs, but this one is newer. which one should i get?
for people who already play piano (me), do the notes for the rock band keyboard actually work?
Would it be worth getting this game for just to use with the original Rock Band guitar and drums? Or should I just get Rock Band 2?

Sounds to me like one of those whiners that kept bashing people for playing the original guitar hero because they should "just learn to play a real guitar instead".
You know, I hope he knows that most good guitars and keyboards range between $600 and $2500. As the Mustang is only $150 and the Squier REAL GUITAR/ controller hybrid is only $280. Most Fenders that I see at my local pawn shop and at the mall are over $500. So, if any of you want a cheap, but good guitar that can interact with your game, Fender and MadCatz are the guys to look at. And we all should thank Harmonix for this whole idea in the first place. Hell, Guitar Hero is just trash now to me.

I am disapointed with Rock Band store, there are almost none scandivian metal bands (ensiferum, wintersun, in flames, dimmu borgir etc) which in my opinion is the most melodic right now. I guess labeling of genres is some indication of how poor it is; there are no metal subgenres it just says 'Metal'. :(

Is there still downloadable content online for Rockband? I just bought guitar hero but the online store seems to be down so I cant download anything there......which sucks!
@senorcaradeperro If it "looks the same" It makes if feel as though the update could have been DLC. He did say that Beatles Rockband looked better so it was a shame that they went back to the older look.

@Jacobnelz44 Since when do we go by judging songs that we've heard of? Listen to it, then judge it. I didn't know any of the songs in RB3, minus a few (like 10 of them). Yet, I ended up loving them in the end. I even got to find out the names of songs that I didn't know the name of, but knew the tune of.
That, and the hardcore Rock Band community likes songs that are fun to play, not necessarily good to listen to. The casual crowd is left out partly due to that.

i like how the game is only 20 dollars, they at least had the decency to put their game at a very low price so that you have money for dlc or other intruments, its the only reason why i bought this game, because of the very low price:)
I think the comment from the reviewer to not buy RB3 because of pro guitar and pick up a real one instead when the whole point of pro guitar is to get people who have wanted to learn but never managed to get off the ground another shot at it.

He doesn't get that this is just for pure entertainment. It's a fun way to interact with music. If you want to impress women at the camp fire. You buy a guitar and pay for lessons.

Guitar Hero finally did something right, they made a game with Megadeth in it and rockband puts a keyboard in the game thats supposed to be about a ROCKband. I think rockband kinda fucked up not just over song selection but a lame addition to a rock band.
I've declared that a great deal of these mainstream reviewers obviously don't review the game that much- they look for as many problems (rational or irrational) as they can, and point it out. Unless it's Call of Duty or something.
'looks the same' urr no shit its that same concept and if it works dont fucking change it, in this case it works very well, also theres no point even mentioning the graphics because you dont really pay much attention to them whilst playing
I'veplayed RB3 for a combined total of at least 5 hours. Comparing the charts, RB3 is much easier. Just compare the expert guitar chart for Free Bird in RB3 with that of Fury of the Storm from GH:WoR.
My biggest compaint is the crappy timing window that RB3 has. Everything else is forgivable.
My complains might be superficial, but there are only superficial differences in the games. Get over it.
Is it possible to play with a drummer, bass, guitar, piano, and a singer playing at once. 5 people at once for this game on ps3?
well actually they are both made by the same company, Harmonix, funded by EA and are published by Activision, you got your facts a little wrong buddy. but as harmonix discontinued guitar hero and kept rock band it shows which is the more promising game. and guitar hero is not more challenging than rock band, it is more unrealistic as its maps the keyboard notes but it does have more notes. on the other hand, rockband has a much smaller window of opportunity to hit said notes, equally hard.
hi, i would like to buy this game for my boyfriend who likes playing drums. i found The rock band 3 on ebay and the game comes with Wireless Pro Drums & Cymbals. Do i need anything else to be able to play? There is no guitar or piano in the set i am buying. I am not bothered about them i just want to be able to play drums. Please help as I am completely new to this stuff lol :) Thanks in Advance!
If you just want to be play drums, then that's all you need, I believe.

the reason of the pro is for people who doesn't have the will strength nor the opportunity of playing real instruments, such as guitar classes and such. im buying this for practice
