That was always the joke with Spinal Tap...the fictional band were meant to have some talent (Stonehenge proves that) but their huge man child tendencies and constant musical bandwagon jumping were their downfall.
In real life, the band are legitimately great musicians; check out their film A Mighty Winds which focuses on the folk scene
Obviously its played for yuks, but the close harmony singing both extremely accurately observed, and impeccably performed!

@@welennelew9866 I'm aware that I'm doing a lot of interpretation and projection here, and that like a Rorschach test, what I see in these lyrics says as much or more about me than it does about the song. However: the way I see it, the band is trying to convey a grasp of the two fundamental forces that make up rock and roll. One is *the beat*. "You can never escape from the beat; it's in the mud and it's in your blood" and "There's a pulse in the new-born sun ... and a tempo in the tides of the moon." And they're right; whether it's the beating of a heart or the ebb and flow of the tides, whether it's as big as the orbit of a star around a galaxy or as small as an atom vibrating in its lattice, *the beat* is everywhere; it's fundamental. The other thing that the lyrics are reaching for in their clumsy way is *life*: "The darning of the sock"--it's in the little things, the quiet moments. "The running of the foal"--it's in newborn life exulting in the joy of existence. "The farmer takes a wife"--it's in people coming together and forming bonds. "The barber takes a pole"--it's in people proclaiming to the world, "Here I am, and this is what I do!" Rock and/or roll is about the union of these two aspects of existence. It's about The Beat, and Life, together.

Although Better Call Saul was mostly Peter Gould's show, Vince Gilligan still had a big hand in it and he is very good at finding actors that are usually seen as comedic/comedians and showing how well they perform in a drama. Hence casting Brian Cranston as Walter, and Bob Odenkirk as Saul (although Saul was meant to be a comedic character originally and they even pitched BCS as a sitcom at first).

Let's be honest, we didn't see much comedy of its caliber back then, either.
It wouldn't now be considered a classic otherwise, would it?
We see just as much good comedy nowadays, in terms of ratio of good to shit. People just hold onto their nostalgia and let go of the bad stuff. That's nice and everything, but then a lot of the time they go losing touch with reality. Like "Boo hoo, political correctness is destroying comedy". No it isn't. Jim Jeffries, Bill Burr, Doug Stanhope, fuckin Frankie Boyle. A lot of older people are just fuckin snowflakes, is what it is. I think comedy's just changed and a lot of older people just don't fucking get it.

    There's a pulse in the new-born sun
A beat in the heat of noon
There's a song as the day grows long
And a tempo in the tides of the moon
It's all around us and it's everywhere
And it's deeper than Royal blue
And it feels so real you can feel the feeling
And that's the Majesty of Rock
    The fantasy of Roll
    The ticking of the clock
    The wailing of the soul
    The prisoner in the dock
    The digger in the hole
We're in this together... and ever
In the shade of a jungle glade
Or the rush of the crushing street
On the plain, on the foamy main
You can never escape from the beat
It's in the mud and it's in your blood
    And its conquest is complete
And all that you can do is just surrender
    To the Majesty of Rock
    The Pageantry of Roll
    The crowing of the cock
    The running of the foal
    The shepherd with his flock
    The miner with his coal
We're in this together... and ever
When we die, do we haunt the sky?
Do we lurk in the murk of the seas?
What then? Are we born again?
Just to sit asking questions like these?
I know, for I told me so
And I'm sure each of you quite agrees
The more it stays the same, the less it changes
And that's the Majesty of Rock
    The Mystery of Roll
    The darning of the sock
    The scoring of the goal
    The farmer takes a wife
    The barber takes a pole
We're in this together... and ever

Not since the impact of the comet that took out the dinosaurs has their been such loudness! What can I say? Smell the Glove! Its Spinal Tap!

I worked as a roadie for this tour, and let me tell you, Spinal Tap are Rock gods! "I know, for I told me so!"
Not to spread rumors, but when The Queen was flown in on the bands private jet, The Skynal Tap 1, she was giddy as any groupie. In fact, after filming her part she disappeared into Nigels dressing room...for 5 days!
It was on this tour that The Tap wrote their musical masterpiece "Big Bottom", and while never publicly admitting it, it's kind of a known fact that the song is about Queen Elizabeths majestic bum.
Nigel has always been a romantic at heart!
