    Just been to Protarus for 10 days and it was beautiful, probably the clearest water I've seen in a long time. Food was very reasonable and incredible quality. I'm a massive fan of the seafood and some of the local beef and lamb dishes we tried were very unique.
    As a UK citizen it surprised me just how easy it would be to move to Cyprus.
    It was very much a rest and relaxation holiday, but my wife and I will return, hire a car and explore the island more.

      Some countrys are realy expensive . But not Cyprus. Keep away from bar street and other touristy parts as they try and get enough profit in 6 months to last all year .eat and drink like the locals do. It is safe. A lot safer than Spain . Crime is low but not non existant so take care . Its a lot friendlier too . I used to own a villa in Torrevejcia Spain which was constantly getting broken into i sold up . Paphos is much better. I intend to retire there. After 3 or 4 weeks you just forget about the Uk.

    I live in Cyprus and My bills are a lot more than that as are my family and friends. You must live quite frugally. I do not mean that as an insult. I have two bed apt my electric bill recently was over double yours and I don’t use air con for cold or heat. I would also point out it’s not common in most of Cyprus to have wifi etc included in rent. I do agree with your tips, people need to come and stay for a while to get a proper feel for the place and do their research. If you have to work, salaries are very low compared to other European countries. If people can have their own company or have a pension or savings, its easier. If you have to work, especially tourist industry, it’s long hours. However the climate is excellent and lifestyle laid back. I enjoyed your video.

      @raylopez99 3 года назад +2

      LOL true. The prices do seem too low. I lived in the Philippines and was paying 800 Euro a month for a small 2 bedroom in Manila where the expats live. And the food in Manila was for one person much higher than 200 Euro a month, more like 800-1000 Euro a month to eat out in somewhat OK places. Even if you live in the provinces in the Philippines where rent is half that of Manila, for an expat life (i.e., eating more than just rice) would cost about 2000 Euro a month. I would guess Cyprus for a couple of people would be about 2000 to 3000 euros a month, unless you catch your own fish and eat rice and macaroni every day.

    To be honest, €200/month for food isn't impossible. I am living in Stockholm, Sweden which is well known to be an expensive city to live in, and I'm paying around €200-€300 for food if I am very cheap.
    I think it very much depends on the amount of food you usually eat and your eating habits.
    (let's take pizza as an example, I usually can only finish 2-3 slides and save the rest for dinner or even lunch for the next day haha)

    • @Rico

    I live in Cyprus (ok in Limassol) but don't get even near to these low costs you just described. I need at least €1,500 a month and that with being cautious not having an extravagant life... You mention 200 euros for food? Do you live on air? Your numbers seem extremely low for Cyprus, I am sorry

    • @Rico
      @Rico  3 года назад +2

      Hey, thanks for your comment. I understand that it may seem low to some people, but this is actually the result of managing my cashflow. I actively live on a low budget so that I can spend as much money as possible to investments. My rent is very low, I eat very basic (rice, noodles, potatoes with vegetables and protein sources) and I don't have any subscriptions, not even a mobile phone contract. And the result of living like this is, well, having low expenses. Of course, it varies a little from month to month but in general this is what I pay.

      @TheDomnt 3 года назад +8

      @@Rico Thanks for your reply. I hear what you say and good for you that you can manage your finances this way... however.. this way (your way) is not typical of the average person. @user-xe3cf8hd8d 2 года назад

    Life is very expensive in Cyprus. Especially in Limassol you need at 1.500 euros. Rents are very high. In Nicosia for on room apartment you need at the best 500 euros only for rent. With wages at 800 euros it is extremely expensive to rent alone an appartement.
    My brothers lives in Nicosia so I know first hand. Also food is expensive and eating out also. If you gain 1.500 euros a month, yes it can be a very exciting place to live. It has beautiful cities like Pafos, Limassol, Larnaca. Warm weather all around the year. If you have a business it is a good place due to the low taxes.
    So for someone who gains 1.500 a month it will be great. But most jobs pay there around 800 euros.

    Cost of rent has sky rocketed here in the past few years, before you could rent a villa with a pool for €470, I'm lucky I came out here to paphos 7 years ago, I still pay just 300 (up from 275 since I moved in 5 years ago) for a 2 bed 2 bath apartment since the landlord legally can not raise the rent by more than a certain percentage each year. Electricity also, my bills are almost double what they were last year but I still can afford to support myself here and save money living and working alone.
    As for supermarkets, forget about the big supermarkets and try to buy local.

Because I remember I been in Paphos April 2021 and after one shopping in Papantoniou with not even full trolley I paid 90 euro for food. 50 euro for fuel monthly? Its like u to drive very rare or only small distances because its too very not realistic only 50 euro for whole month. And what about monthly car insurance?
    Now about rent 550 euro for month, don't forget you are middle of covid pandemic situation.. No tourist, lockdowns and many businesses closed. After covid ends, Airbnb, Booking, and tourism industry back all rents will go up.

However, in public coffees the internet is slower, but still fine for office work. Hope that helps, and hope you'll find the right country for you!

Olive Oil nativ, cold presst, 15,- Eur for 4 Liter on the famers market. Keo Beer 0,65l Eur 2,50; Xinisteri bottle in our restaurants Eur 12,-. So what. And 340 Days sunshine free of charge. On top: if you have your registration number as european citizen beginnig with "5" you are fully online with all your documents regarding social security, taxoffice, driving license, covid vaccination, etc. For locals there is an other beginning number. Are you talking about the same Cyprus we live in? 50 EUR for petrol? probably you drive a 125cc scooter? 100 EUR per month for fun including playing Golf? seriously? Rent i don't want to argue since i live in Limassol and don't know about rents in Paphos, but the rest of the mentioned amounts are simply not realistic.

      @Rico  3 года назад

      Thank you very much! :)
      Buying a car is indeed very tricky here in Cyprus. I personally took a look at most of the car dealers in Paphos first and also asked in some Facebook groups for a private seller. I then decided to go with one car dealer, but maybe buying from a private person would be a better idea. Especially if you're on a budget. So try to get as many options and deals from everywhere, not just Bazaraki and then compare those and decide for the best.
      Hope this helps. I wish you the best, Rico.

Everything seemed normal, but, we're restricted to go outside only with sending an SMS before. We hope this will be lifted and to be able to sit indoor soon as well.

    Hi Rico thank you so much for the Video. It made me hopeful for my retirement. I love Cyprus... I lived on the Turkish side with my two children some years ago. All in all I went there 34 times in my life. I only know little about the Greek side. Due to some very bad experiences I knew , when we left, that I would never go there again. But I met so lovely people from the south and due to your calculations I might have a better life there than in Germany as a retiree. Could you make a video about other aspects such as health insurance for EU citizens, quality of health care, crime rate, safety, all kind of things that become important for people 50+.
    By the way....you don't sound German! Are there many Germans on the Greek side?

    • @Rico
      @Rico  2 года назад

      Hey there! Thank you very much for your comment! Very happy that you say I don't have a German accent, I'm trying my best!
      And yes, we do have a lot of Germans in Cyprus. There is a big community here actually. Regarding health insurance and safety, Cyprus is very good actually and one of the safest places in the EU. The hospitals have a lot of high qualified doctors, and as the population of Cyprus is rather small you always have a good chance of getting a diagnosis/surgery very fast.
      I even heard that a lot of British people fly to CY to get a surgery, which is going to be faster than waiting for a doctor in England.

      @@alexchrisostomou2700 you didn't get what I meant did you? I used the terms for people to get the idea of Cyprus. I am not in favour of Turkish policy. But you too should get more history lesson. E.g study the constitution of Cyprus in 1960. The reason for 1963/64 and the coup against Macharios in 1974 and then the Constitution again and then, write to me again. Do you know the T.R.N.C?? Have you been there? Have you friends there? Get education and experience and make Turkish friends. As I have met the dearest, most beautiful , most honest and tolerable Greek Cypriot man whom I miss every day.
