    Just an amazing transformation from where you were when you began. Congratulations. I have a been fan of the so-called OTT swing since picking up a club and hitting balls as an 11 year-old in the school yard. I can remember so so-called gurus telling golfers tonever take it back on the inside; I found it odd because that's the NATURAL way to do it, any other way requires a contrived swing. "OTT" also generates a lot of torque you can use to hit the ball high and far without all the effort. I love it. Keep up the great work.

    Christo, Refreshing take on the golf swing. I've studied the golf swing for years now and it always puzzled me how when under normal set up, a pulled iron shot is always FLUSHED on the button and it just goes. I wondered why if you always flush it when you pull a shot, nobody ever teaches it? I did read in the Little Red Book how Harvey Penick could never convince Coach Royal of Texas that it was okay to aim a touch right and pull in back to the target a bit. He called it OTTFIG...Over the Top Forget It...Coach Royal apparently fought it most of his golfing life instead of just riding it. From many years of baseball I was way too shallow and inconsistent. You see the drills in Pavin and Kuchar's practice swings trying to get more on top of it. Good enough for Jones, Stadler, Lietzke good enough for me.

      I recently have been thinking the same thing. Pull shots are always super well struck and go far. Why not develop a way to control the “pull” and have it go towards the intended target.

    Bobby jones in how to break 90 describes the backswing as simple as turning the body and hips and lifting the arms with the cocking of the wrists. And the down swing was shift forward drop the right elbow as one piece and keep the left arm in the line of flight. Impact he said he felt like it was a back hand blow.

    Christo,
    I think vehemently promoting the words...' Over The Top Swing' .. is probably the worst message you can send to the rank and file Golfers.
    What needs to be clearly extrapolated is that the 'attack' plane of the golf swing is not as commonly understood by rank and file golfers as that of being .. 'outside'.. and over the top' at 'impact'... which is absolutely what a rank and file golfer assimilates to the term of .. 'Over The Top' swing process. Three of the greatest ball strikers in the history of Golf.. Sam Snead .. Bobby Jones.. and Moe Norman.. all swung the club over the top of their backswing plane on the downswing..but.. they 'all' swung the club from the ' inside' to the ball at impact.. they didn't swing the club 'outside' the target line to impact.. if they did do that they could have only hit two basic configurations of ball flight.. that being either a .. 'pull cut''.. being the result of an out to in swing path with an open clubface.. or a .. 'Pull Drag'.. which is the resultant of an out to in attack plane with a 'closed' clubface'
    The basics of shot patterning and ball flight become totally reduced with an out-to-in (over-the-top swing understanding for rank-and-file golfers) attack plane.. it is geometrically impossible to hit a straight push shot.. or a push fade.. or any type of draw flight shot.. if the swing attack plane direction is from out to in .. just mechanically/geometrically impossible.
    Even Lee Trevino whose stock shot was a power fade hit the ball from an in-to-out swing path at impact .. have a look at his swing from an above view.. he clearly is attacking the ball from inside the target line. .. he did hit a lot of 'cut shots' .. but only as specialty shots because of conditions hole shape configurations.. a cut shot ball flight is a weak flight shot.. his shots were never 'weak' of ball flight.
    Bruce Leitski had the nickname ..'Leaky'.. because all his shots leaked to the right.. so many commentators said his stock shot was a 'cut shot'.. I played in a Pro-Am with him and hit shots beside him on the practice tee.. all his divots were ever so slightly in to out .. to dead straight .. his ball flight was a straight flight and the ball just leaked slightly to the right at the end of its flight.. the ball flight was super strong .. it had no cut spin on the shots ... Bruce had a big over the top of his backswing plane movement in his downswing.. but he still hit the ball from 'inside.. not 'outside.
    I think what you do in your practice swing demonstrations with the over-the-top swing process is precisely what you shouldn't be doing.. you are demonstrating an 'out to in' swing path attack .. which is the last thing a rank-and-file golfer needs to see... especially when you dont do that in your actual golf swing.. explain to them its ok to reroute the club in the downswing over the backswing plane.. but the attack plane must still be 'inside' at impact.
    You should have asked Jack Nicklaus when you interviewed him what his attack path was at impact.. I know what it was.. and he hit power fades his whole career .. which you cannot do from an 'outside in' attack path. ..
    I enjoy your channel content.. keep up the good work.

      @@stinger8866 I just think its so important to be absolutely clear with swing instruction when pitching that instruction to rank and file golfers..they will take instruction totally relative to word desriptives that they are familiar with..and 'over the top' for rank and file golfers conjurs up a mental image of 'outside in'..I know that emphatically because I have surveyed so many rank and file golfers relative to the words' 'over the top'...and 99% think that means 'out to in' swingpath.

I have started setting up with about 55% -60% of my weight on my front (left foot) and I keep it there throughout the backswing. When I do this, it is easier for me to push off my front foot on the downswing to really clear my left hip and accelerate the club into the ball. Your thoughts?

    Hi Christo I don’t understand at the transitional part of your downswing you say you are going OTT of your trail shoulder when I clearly see the head of your club looping on an inside path to bring itself down to its plane of action against your ball. All I can think is that you must have a faster rotation of your body then I could ever achieve.
    My golf swing is simply twirling the handle counterclockwise for my back swing and then twirling the handle of my club clockwise looping my club on an inside path shallowing it towards my ball as my body rotates left. Cheers 😃👍⛳️🥂

      So I’m 99% sure “over the top” referenced how the club gets to the ball in relation to the take away. His position/plane in transition is perfect, it’s just that for many other golfers they “shallow” in relation to the takeaway plane to get to that same position/plane.

    • @thomasfraser9072
      @thomasfraser9072 Год назад

      @@DomLeFever good explanation. The truth is on my best swings on You Tube I have been accused of going OTT 3 or 4 years ago.
      I just don’t necessarily feel it or deliberately make it happen. I now like to swing by feeling the weight of my club head traveling on its path of angular momentum 100 percent of the time throughout my swing just by using my trail little finger.
      Whether I am going OTT or not it doesn’t matter to me; as my shot making is now very satisfactory to me. Although I always love to compare notes with Christo and others. This is why I support his MSE TV as long as he continues it at a price I can afford. Cheers😃👍⛳️🥂

    Hey Christo: I just had an "epiphany".... I was watching a video by Dr. Kwon who biomechanically analyzes the golf swing via computer etc. He had a young female college golfer whose swing looked great but he told her and showed her that her right elbow was getting "stuck" on the downswing. So I know this can be a problem for a lot of golfers. And he showed how the right elbow must come in front of the chest to be able to release fully and properly.
    EPIPHANY QUESTION: Could the right elbow coming down in "front of the chest" be the "Over the Top Miracle Swing Move"? In other words, she was pulling down on the right elbow as Dr. Kwon told her. Could bringing the right elbow in front of the chest be the Over the Top downswing move that you are promoting? ie, could that be the "downswing key" or "downswing thought"???

    Been following you for awhile and you’ve literally evolved in your swing. Question though: are you really coming over the top, or are you just going over the top relative to your shallower backswing? To me, over the top is swinging OVER your shoulder plane, and breaking the plane glass. In the end, seems the results are the same but the backswing and downswing feels might feel different. Just my two cents..

There is no around a circle in any great golf swing. Only Angular Momentum. Linear/ rotation as one move. If you don’t believe me. Trace his clubface..not the butt of his club. He takes his club deep (butt/gripwise) on his backswing. In the downnswing..he moves his grip forward he have better space to swing thru. But his club plane is actually shallowed..the club face never comes over the top. Over the top is when your clubface stands up and cut across the plane. To describe this as OTT is bad abd confusing to the many already confused golfers out there.

With this guys teaching the first move is to move the right shoulder out. This is the antithesis of proper teaching. It is not an exciting thing! It is destructive teaching.

AND, you cannot argue with his shot results. @ they would not swing this way now, if they could do it over. A lot has been learned since their era. That is old teaching. Biomechanics has informed us of better and more efficient ways of doing things. Old Tom Morris was successful. You would not want to swing like him now. Bob Jones was successful. You would not want to swing like him now. Harry Vardon was very successful. Would you copy his bent left arm now? The game of golf has progressed. Try to keep up!

    • @Pjkoko
      @Pjkoko 14 дней назад +2

      @ good for you. But let’s be clear. It is a swing fault for which you must compensate by doing something else to correct it during the swing. Study LPGA swings. So many are perfect and no over the top moves. Look at Nellie Korda’s swing. Simple, repeatable. The inside takeaway over the top move was the teaching in the late 30s and 40s when I was a junior. It created havoc and inconsistency. Flipping, skulling, pushes, snap hooks, and fat shots. Even Hogan was troubled by a snap hooks early on in his career. Nicklaus said that Jones would not want an over the top move in modern day golf. Listen to accomplished players, not one trick pony unaccomplished teachers.
