      I will be coming back to this video quite often. I also enjoyed this live lesson. Most folks, myself included, would have gotten overwhelmed, most likely with all the swing thoughts, but this student had a very solid understanding.
      Hoping the range is open tommorow, pretty cold, wet and snowy here where I am at. Won't be home till after Christmas where we have golf friendly weather year round. Out here in Indiana, not so much.

    This is the most valuable lesson I've watched. Eavesdropping on a lesson for 30 + minutes - is a true nugget. I'll be watching this 100+ times to embed the knowledge. My only request would be for a senior golfer video lesson (for totally selfish purposes..lol). I hereby volunteer my hack-ish self as benefit to all geezers! Great job Tom.

      By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      Would you like to learn some key aspects of the body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing system I teach in a more structured manner? One does not need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll work through the mini course, and if you like that then perhaps give serious thought to the school. The value in terms of what you get for the low price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.

    5 mins left. Your student must be great to work with. When he was giving his explanation of what you are trying to get him to do, what it's supposed to feel like, why he wants to do what he wants to do in the swing shows he understands a lot about the swing and your goals for him.
    Very in depth, this one my friend shows everything in one video. Everything from the flared feet stance, width, ball position, loved the angles on screen. FANTASTIC PRODUCTION!!!!

      I got a chance to play today!! I wanted to just hit the range but it was closed as "to many balls were getting plugged and lost." No warm up, definitely winter golf, but all I cared about was that takeaway, matching my face angle to my wrist angle more or less, and coming through with the hips. Felt great, but I didn't even hit my first pure shot till maybe the 7th hole and the PUTTING God's were testing me. I put a new 50° in the bag, so every shot seemed to be a 50 degree... wierd huh? Very glad to at least get out and hit some real balls. My favorite video was your ben hogan/James Varner III video, but this video might be your finest work.

    With the wrist that bowed (and face that closed), the make-up move to square it at impact is usually spinning the hips hard on the way down. See Dustin Johnson for more on this.

      And that's the thing, Ken - we absolutely can try to mimic the precisely timed idiosyncratic manipulations and compensatory actions of truly gifted athletes who spent years hitting countless balls to fine tune and hone their swings to the extent that they have. Or we can elect to construct an equally effective and significantly lower maintenance ball striking machine - devoid of such variables - by adopting a body-friendly, powerful system that is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers.
      The choice is certainly yours, but if the latter option at least has some appeal to you, then here is a link to my recently updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal instruction method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    Many thanks Tom for this very good video. BUT, it shows that to have a good ball flight, the keys: keeping the head centered, weight on the front leg, left arm straight, right elbow in, right shoulder down and through, are necessary but not sufficient ; plenty of small adjustments are mandatory. Otherwise it would be so easy to play golf efficiently and everybody would to!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 дня назад

      Actually, Guy, it really can be "dumbed down" to those basic elements _IF_ there are no unprescribed manipulations such as what Derek was initially doing in his takeaway. THAT variable he introduced is what we needed to address and neutralize.
      Ideally, we should simply "allow" the hand and wrist actions to happen without forcing anything. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper wrist and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.
      Tom

    I can relate to this quite a bit. Got to single figures with shut face and strengthening grip but overcooked it and lost height, spin, dynamic loft, ability to hold a green, all to an almost unplayable level. Tried to feel more cup and get less laid off but that created tonnes of radial/cocking and I started hinging like John Daly and it has been a nightmare. Stronger grip with wrist cup causes all sorts of strike issues and chicken wing. Finding that playable middleground is the hardest thing to secure. Also, cupped lead wrist feels like trail arm can't work well. Bowed allows space for trail arm to move.🤔

    Well, he certainly has great potential; and, you are definitely setting him on the right track. Towards the end of the video he is swinging on a much better arc and his swing looks perfect. I do think, though, that it will help him greatly if instead of trying retain the cup in his left hand, he just simply focuses on pushing back with his left wrist joint. The most difficult thing in golf is that there are two components to the takeaway. The extensors in the left hand need to extend, to create the arc; and, the wrist joint needs to push back, to broaden the arc. And, it is hard to focus on both things. But, one great drill would be to hold the club out to the left, with the left hand; and, then press the hand in front of the clubhead. This, of course, builds extensor extension into the swing. When the hand moves in front of the cl This fuses the hands. This then enables the left hand to press against the right hand to fully fuse the hands together. The left side of the right forearm will then react against the left hand; and, press towards the left arm. This actually sets the downswing in motion; and, rotates the body back round.

    One thing for sure: that I have learned from Saguto golf:
    the Maximum "shoulder driven"(NO wrist involved) golf swing is waay easier to repeat/time: than the opposite. Which is "wrist driven" /No /little shoulder golf swing...The wrist hinges as a reaction to the shoulders in the backswing and the downswing.

    Very insightful video. Thank you for sharing it. This channel strikes again. I would like to get your expert opinion on how to hit the 3 Wood golf club with S&T. I've been hitting down with my irons and hybrids with good success in terms ball striking, distance and accuracy. Can I also hit down with a 3Wood or do we sweep the club? I'm worried if I hit down that I could break the club head. I don't use that club atm as I'm unsure what the correct method is. I look forward to your response. Keep up the great work. It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html. We don't need to actively try to "sweep" it with the 3 wood. When properly executed, our setup will take care of our angle of attack and have the path appropriately shallowed coming into impact.

    Bowing or cupping wrist? If I cup the wrist I will push the ball way to the right. I have to purposely bow it to close the club face and hit it straight. I do tend to play hooks if I am not conscious of not swaying back during the backswing.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 дня назад

      It depends on the individual golfer, Silmi. For example, all other things being equal a player with a neutral or weak grip can benefit from a slight bowing of the wrist. However, if the grip is to the stronger side then that bowing will shut the face, and without any compensatory actions on the way down a pull/hook is oftentimes the result.
      In more general terms, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and results. This is why I routinely recommend the online school - saguto.golf - to anyone who truly wishes to experience the joys of consistent, powerful, body-friendly ball striking bliss. The sequential lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.

      I'm glad you're enjoying my content!
      Your issue likely boils down to how you are building your connections/structure and establishing your setup. With regard to the latter, as an example the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process.
      And while there is certainly content on my channel that addresses this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lessons and drills, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    Sometimes my shoulders get lazy, another words don’t turn back as far as they should on the backswing..( which usually leads to poor direction and poor power..
    One drill I try to do almost everyday after work is this: I take 10-15 practice swings with a driver in the backyard ( no ball)..But I try to take a full shoulder turn on each swing and even pause a full 2 seconds at top of swing to make sure I took a full swing before starting down…At first it was tedious,and my shoulders were not used to the “full turn and hold” drill but after 2 months of doing this, just 5 min a day,my game has improved..I went from a 15 handicap to an 8..and my drives are straighter and longer…
    maybe Tom can make a drill for how to make sure that one makes a full shoulder turn every time…and make a vid on it…

      Excellent job, Joel, and I sincerely appreciate you sharing your very effective drill!!
      I have absolutely emphasized the critical importance of making a full turn in numerous videos. It all begins with a proper setup. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees at address facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through.

    • @SagutoGolf

      My own personal "feels" are not relevant to anyone else, Charles, because they are unique to me. 😎 Beyond that, they do change quite regularly as I'm always thinking about new possibilities for my lesson content. (Although as long as my grip and setup are good and I've pre-established the necessary connections, I know that I can confidently trust my “feel du jour”. ) This is why I do my best to convey multiple feels or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason why the comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform of my online school is so effective, and as such I strongly recommend it to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my RUclips content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.

    My question is basically what iron was he using where you had him place the ball essentially in the inside of the lead foot, 4i or 5i? If using a 7i, 8i, 9i, PW, where would you have ball placement?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 дня назад

      We first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. That aside, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape.
      As for hand position, it remains consistent - even with the inside of your lead thigh - no matter which club you are hitting. Additionally, the lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line from the face-on view, giving your setup a lowercase "y" look.
      While there is certainly content on my channel that addresses this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lessons and drills, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    My question is about the wrist talk about half way in pn the video. In an extreme case what about jon rahm coming in on the downswing the wrist is bowed down oppostie of what im seeing in the video.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  День назад

      We're talking apples and oranges here. Derek was side bending his wrist early in the takeaway and was shutting the face as a result. The only way he was going to square it up at impact was through some type of compensatory action. Since he has a little bit of cupping at address because of how he grips the club, we just needed to maintain that through the motion in order to keep the face square without the need for any manipulations. In other words, side bending of the wrist disrupts the geometry of the swing, and that is why it ought not be encouraged. The proper wrist action is up and down, not side to side.
      Now, with a neutral or weak grip, the wrist angle at address will be relatively flat if not slightly bowed, although that action should not be confused with the side bending.. In that scenario some Rahm-like bowing at the top is certainly acceptable, and this can then translate into the downswing. Bow it with a strong grip, however, and all other things being equal chances are the golfer will be fighting pulls and hooks.

      Derek is an advanced player with professional Tour aspirations. As such he is capable of making adjustments and implementing changes on the fly. The purpose for the general audience was to demonstrate just how dramatically our lead wrist condition affects path, impact, and ball flight.
      Would you like to learn some key aspects of the body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing system I teach in a more structured manner? If so, then here is a link to my recently updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal instruction method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    Not sure I agree with everything in this lesson. The forward preset can move the body weight too far forward before ball contact. Lots of thins or tops. How about teaching the stopping point at which weight stops moving forward And turn takes over.

      You are misunderstanding what is being taught here. These setup keys may help you in this regard: We should feel evenly balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting our knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of our shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing our butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. The arms hang down naturally from the shoulders with all clubs except the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft. We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward - generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs - while retaining the stacked relationship. Both feet are flared outward approximately 10-20 degrees, with the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing.
      When properly deployed in sequence our hips play a role in preserving our downswing path and they can certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor on the rotational component, thereby enabling the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while - and this is key - the head and thus the swing center remains in place.) This will occur naturally if we allow it to, but unfortunately the misguided "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. For them, the "feel" of the shoulders leading will help in overcoming this, correctly engaging their hips and fixing their path, thereby leading them to a solid, "crispy" impact condition.
      While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

      @ Interesting. So this lesson would be geared towards those whose anatomy would not allow proper hip fire ? I always find these videos interesting because everyone has unique body mechanics. So this lesson would not pertain to some. I do understand the balance at address, I’ve been working with my daughter, @MikkiBoom702 , almost this exact “stacking” set up for swing balance. Knees out, and preventing the lead knee from turning and dropping in during the back swing.
      Thanks for your explanation.

      @@dudegetaclue190helps older guys who can’t get off their right side very well . Weight being forward - left 65-right 35 really helps for consistent contact for me .
