No tree no Christmas presents and no job for eight months, but got a roof over my head and food And I thank God for everything!!
Yep no job in medical field if you can believe that. No Holidays this year. Hang in there.
When you get home 🏡 remember that people have been living like this for years. Ask any native American 😊😊😊
@ wow!!!🤯
@ 😌❤️
And THATS what matters .
God bless .
I bought my daughter 2 gifts this year. We’re learning to appreciate what we have and living on less. Back to basics baby! Appreciate the facts that you have a roof over your head and a warm bed to sleep in. Period. I’m done with the over consumption. She dug out her old Nintendo and game boy and rediscovered what she really has. She actually started reading books again.
Even in New Hampshire, that doesn't seem too bad.
as a FL guy I wake up appreciating the little things but its a cold bed to sleep in 😂.
Been reading books for about a year not spending alot for xmas used my artificial tree
Cut the Internet for 3 months and you'll be surprised by how many books she reads and how much work gets done.
I only bought consumable items for my family, who live far away from me. They really appreciate them. I am glad for the Christmas Decor I have, the fact that I can cook delicious meals at home, and the fact that I have the best Christmas movies on DVD/Blu-ray. I can create my own Christmas and can walk to my Church as well. I have so much to be thankful for. I have a home I own, a warm house, and food. I am grateful for what I already have. No need to spend big bucks.
Had real trees decades ago at $30-35. One year, after decorating the tree until midnight, it fell over. Threw it out the front door & down the stairs. Next time I was in Ace Hardware I bought a pre lit fake tree on clearance for $20-not bad for 6-7 foot tree. I still own that tree and that was 25 yrs ago!! Great return on my investment! Sure it looks shabby, but I’m old, kids grown, so that tree grew with me!
A few years ago I bought a ceramic tree. Take it out the box plug it . I am happy.
I bought a 6.5 ft clearance pre-lit tree from Kroger a few days after Christmas for about $25 back in 2010. It was so easy to store, set up and decorate and lasted for years.
I'm retired now and currently living in Thailand so I just enjoy the decorations they set up in the malls, my old Krogie tree had to stay behind 😂
Nothing smells or looks like the real thing. Americans are too busy shoving fast food down their throats and growing into obese lethargic thumbs and don't even have the energy to endeavor putting up a REAL TREE ANYMORE!!! Fake trees, fake government and fake people!!! It's all good because it has to be!!!
Jesus is the reason for the season! ❤️🇨🇦
More like the Church of Rome.
Jesus has nothing to do with Christmas . Look it up ! It’s not a secret .
How well versed!😮
I can easily afford Christmas. I don't buy presents. God's gift of a Saviour is enough.
Years ago my family decided no present giving on Christmas. Me and my brothers families get together and have a great time with a nice potluck, playing bunco and other games and just enjoying each others company. This way no stress about getting the right gift or having one person do the whole meal. It seems to be working as we all get along great and have fun at the get togethers.
That sounds chill and fun
I haven't celebrated any holidays for the last 25 years. Time was great back then, everything used to make sense. Now everything is expensive and people are rude, especially in San Diego. However, the spirit of Christmas is signing and exchanging gifts. The gift shouldn't be expensive, just under $20.
I really don’t need anything. It’s nice getting to retirement and be satisfied with what my wife and I have. 😊
I gave up on Christmas decades ago. Sheesh!
Its cause of governor Newsum!!! Needs to be removed!! He is a criminal!
Christmas truly is not about how many gifts we give or receive. You can still be joyful.
During past Christmases, traffic entering our local Walmart was stretched for miles with traffic crawling. Today that there was very little traffic and parking lot was pretty empty. Scary. When I got to the European Market, I was one of six shoppers, in past years they limited number of folks entering at a time. This tells me that the middle class is hurting big time.
Sounds made up,
online shopping.
My friend acted like I am suppose to decorate ,my kids are gone ,grand kids don't celebrate and my great grands, live out of town, I told him to go to his, house and decorate,I am fine
I'm not decorating this year.
@@mwilliams4371me either, I bought my husband a book he wanted and I’ll send our grown kids money but not the kind of money they got in the past. I plan to prepare a nice meal and read from the Bible.
My daughter and her husband go and cut their own tree. $15 dollar fee and a fun day in the mountains with the doggy!! Much better than $89 or $109.
I dont decorate, I go to the HD and look for sales on trees/bushes in the garden center to plant in the backyard. I donate to organizations and stay home, watch movies, work on projects, etc
These aren't the times to be "Santa Claus"guys stay home and get alot of rest😛👍
We can NOT afford Christmas for our grand babies. We can barely afford food, my husband's been laid off 2 times in 16 months lasting over 11 months. We're just able to cook a Christmas dinner and spend time with them
Babies don’t know it’s Christmas. Just hug them tight . Hope things will get better 🙏🏻
Dollar Tree has the best value on birthday cards and other cards. Usually 50 cents a piece over Hallmark prices Is a deal.
You get out of your car in the parking lot and someone asks for money for their broke down car somewhere, and you turn around and someone else is ringing a bell in your ear for money, can't even pay for your items without someone asking to round up, a tip bucket, a buy a sticker foundation. Season where everyone has their hand out, enjoy.
Brother - can you spare a dime?
@@catpaladin1 God Bless
I'm with Tom. A fake tree is more economical for me. For something that I display for a month, then back to the garage makes more sense for me. 🌲When my daughter was little we would go to the tree farm. No need for this old lady anymore🤶
I shopped local at holiday strolls and church fairs. I spent money on wreaths and gave two as gifts. I am sober 16 years this month. RECOVER US REAL. I am giving back...
My neighbors got a lovely wreath from me for their front door which I give them every Christmas. Wreaths and greens make a great gift.
1988 I sold CHRISTMAS TREES IN TACOMA WASHINGTON.
IN 1 MONTH I SOLD 2200 TREES.
DOUG FIR $20
NOBLE $30
FLOCKED $45
I MADE $1 A TREE
Hard worker
Gave my 9 year old grandson gold and silver for Christmas
Best gift ever
I'm literally giving no gifts. My parents are giving me a check and my brother pays me rent so there is no point since we share the expenses as a family, which everyone should do. Not everybody can make money in this economy so pooling resources is the best way to go.
I've stressed over Christmas for decades. This year, I said "NO MORE!" I'm not participating in this money grab. Stress over.
I haven't celebrated any holidays for the last 25 years. Time was great back then, everything used to make sense. Now everything is expensive and people are rude, especially in San Diego. However, the spirit of Christmas is signing and exchanging gifts. The gift shouldn't be expensive, just under $20.
Good deal
After decades of being miserable at Christmas, it was just to commercial. I gave it up. Now I celebrate the Solstice with a special meal and a prayer. I live on a remote island. If I want a tree I go into the forest and get one. It's called a Yule tree.
Is there room for my father and I on your remote island?
I just bought the empty lot next to my property. Been waiting 20 years for it to be listed, ha, no neighbors 🎉🎉
Christmas is easy with a low low interest rate of 21%. Life is but a dream.
I live in California and discovered I couldn’t get homeowners insurance from any so called well known or traditional brand name insurance companies on the home I inherited in 2023. I don’t live in a fire zone, not located on a hillside or embankment. The home was built in late ‘50s and has always been well maintained, updated etc., and no claims ever on that property. Had to show paperwork associated with the upgrades and improvements on new plumbing, roof, heating and air - fortunately my father kept meticulous records, plus dozens of exterior photos and I was turned down because I had a small claim from 2019 on a home I had previously owned and sold in 2021. First and only homeowner claim filed in 40 years of homeownership. Ended up with some insurance outfit for several thousand a year with less coverage than I’ve had previously. I guess it’s better than the state plan and the broker told me I was lucky to get it.
I cannot do Christmas this year. Not even sure about a Holiday dinner. It is what it is... Subway is a JOKE! Ordered a Turkey wrap a couple months back, It was over priced and next to nothing as far as the quantity. Never again!🎁 Happy Holidays y'all!🎄
And ever since the whole Boar's Head deli meat fiasco I'm scared to buy sliced turkey to make my own wraps 🙁
I remember when my Dad paid $25-50 for a tree. Those prices are nuts!!
I remember paying that for a tree too!!
Don't need material things to celebrate christmas, Merry christmas ,in Jesus Christ we trust, blessings
I live in a small townhouse. a $30 little fake tree lasts 5 years so far and it does its job. Lol
Chritsmas is a bankers holiday
Thrift stores! Garage sales too.
My wife bought a used 10 ft artificial tree with built in lights and a nice storage bag for only $40 on facebook marketplace!
Hi Dan, I feel really blessed this Christmas , I'm glad im retired and really do what I want.i think I'm a lot like you,I've diversified, out of debt, stay ahead of this human race . No one's really spending, we're all waiting for the other shoe to drop! And I can't believe what they plan for us testing those drones, pretending they know nothing. They think the people are that ignorant..it amazes me!😂 I'm having a quiet holiday..I'm not buying. I'm heading to Fla. Condo after Trump takes office. No tree this year everyone is going fake trees, not me .I have no grandchildren to spoil.but I'm baking presents and feel the pounds coming on! Enjoyed our walk today, peace.❤
I'm being a Grinch this year. Nothing burgers for everyone
With me being out of work for months. Nobody getting shit from me.
nobody wants shitt for christmas anyway, so your golden.
Wishing you all the best, A merry Christmas and a new job for 2025.
$100 for what will be mulch in 3 weeks. My tree is in a box in the attic. Comes with lights and everything. It's about time to, literally, pop it open.
Where's my Christmas spirit?😂
Never lose the reason for Christmas, Baby Jesus came into this world eith full of love❤
Smart
I agree I went to Dickey's barbecue one time it was awful never went back that was about 10 years ago
Haven’t bought a tree in years. Even donated my outdoor nativity scene to a local church. Christmas is more for those who have families. I still give presents to a choice few, but I’m done with the commercialization of the holiday. If I can find no-brand/off-brand items to buy, I will. Just bought a new “keurig” type machine, and saved about $50. Oh, and I had to return the dishwasher I bought for my rental cause my landlord grew a conscience and got it replaced. Thank God for the Christmas spirit! ❤🎉✝️
Yer new coffee machine strewing plastic "kurig" type cups all over the land.
@ Yep. But we have much bigger problems than that!
Get a ‘Fake’ Christmas tree, set it and forget, 😂store it in the spare room closet and whip it out each season. It’s the ‘spirit’ of Christmas that counts not the type of tree.😅😅
I find myself complaining about Walmart quite often, but needed a $10 gift for a gift exchange. I found a wonderful gift right on target and I have to admit, my Walmart has a ton of really good $10 gifts. I was really surprised and impressed. So, thank you for that, Walmart. I really needed the help .
Matt and Amy go to my church and I've been praying for them all week...wow...it's a small world!❤
Thank you for the video Dan ❤
Remember what Christmas is about
I buy cards (50 cents), gift bags and cleaning stuff at Dollar Tree. In that respect it's a good value. Greeting cards are alot of money at retail stores, and the cards at Dollar Tree are ok. For family, etc. I bought gift cards at practical places.
I can afford Christmas.
1. the $149 Christmas tree at Home Depot.
40 years ago, my older brother had a Christmas tree farm in PA. Tough business and eventually he gave it up. The $149 tree in 2024 cost $50 in 1985. And $50 was a lot of money in 1985.
2. I can afford Christmas because I didn't take any cruises or go to Las Vegas to gamble this year. I patched up the driver's seat and headliner in my 20 year old Toyota. Thus I could also afford to buy graduation watches for two relatives and a watch for another who did not own a watch.
3. I have followed Dan's suggestions and purchased potential gifts on sales. He suggests that you make up a budget. I have one - and the annual checks prepared for three different charities.
4. So what do I do for a Christmas tree? When my wife died, I gave away the boxes of ornaments and lights to relatives . . . and it is another reason why I can afford Christmas. I don't need a tree.
Dan, what you don't understand is we shop at the dollar store enough to know what i's a good buy some cookies, crackers. Cranberry/apple juice (less sugar). My wife has Pancreatic cancer and likes the juice are good buys. Christmas wrapping paper (for a few presants). I would take my little granddaughter. She loved to pick out crazy toys and I could afford them!
In my experience the dollar tree has deals for people who can't afford normal sized products. I would buy laundry detergent for 5 loads, cheap dishwashing liquid, 4 rolls of toilet paper and paper towels. They usually are name brand but in sizes a normal store wont stock. For snacks to take in the movies, or bagels and bread which they don't carry as much for. Some stores have way better selection than others. Its not worth it to go now because I can afford full size items which are cheaper to buy in bulk.
I'm having the same $300 Christmas we always have and that includes the standing rib roast with Yorkshire pudding and asparagus. No matter what the economy, my wonderfully frugal lifestyle never changes.
I love asparagus. Sounds like a great dinnef.
dinner
I'm only gifting the soup kitchen this year. Merry Christmas!
My family decided to do secret Santa gift exchanges with a price limit. Everyone will be less stressed and enjoy what it's really all about.
Have to add though....the grandparents still buy more for the little grandchildren. 18 & over....name goes in the secret Santa
Back in the fifties father used to bring in a Charlie Brown Christmas tree Christmas Eve discounted or given away at the local gas station
Years ago, I stopped going to the dollar stores when I could get the same toothpaste from Walmart for $0.88.
Pepsodent baby!
Yeah, but fluoride is RAT POISON. Look into it.
Kudos to your friend Tom. I have had my Everlasting Christmas tree 7 years
Now, came with pre lit lights too. New Years Day, it goes back into the
Garage. No need to feel bad tossing out a “real tree”.
I got some athletes foot cream at dollar tree the other day for $1.29. Wal-Mart was $4 or $5. Small tubes of tooth paste were still less than Wal-Mart.
Everything is expensive now, the closings, layoffs, downsizing, it coming to a reckoning soon. Thank the folks in power for lieing
I spoke to my 32 year old son the other day asking about Christmas. He and his wife are spending Christmas with her parents 2 states away. They both make a lot more than i do. I still asked him what they needed. He said "nothing really. Just give us a $100 gift card." I spent a butt load of money on their wedding earlier this year. Christmas has become a family tax season. The sense of entitlement has stolen the joy from the season.
Don't ask. 🎄
omg shocking for someone to say just give me a wad of cash lol
Next year send a card, don't ask. And Merry Christmas to you.
Our Yule tree is made out of our horses shoes welded together and painted green. We do get some ever green wreaths. They and the tree get decorated with a few ornaments that have been passed down or home made.
We don't do christmas here but solstice. I think we have a $300 limit total for gifts this year- most of the stuff we give out will be home made or practical.
Why don’t you spend your time and money on making a nativity scene? Don’t follow the paegans
I bought a very realistic tree over 20 years ago. It is still going strong and I have saved more than 20 real trees from the axe. If you miss the smell, get a wreath.
Or just wash your floor with pine-sol 😆
We have 9 foot, 6 foot and 3 foot trees all bought half price after Christmas. I pulled out the 6 footer and the first present under the tree was from me to my wife. I learned my lesson well, haha. The 9 foot tree is a lot of hassle, weighs like a hundred pounds and takes up half the room, figuratively speaking.
The LAST time ordering pizza. A promotion for 12.95. Ordered that and order total was that UNTIL checkout. ADD-ONS turned the pizza to $28 requesting PLACE ORDER. Cancelled the order and was my LAST time dealing with surprise ADDS
I've heard some of our holiday traditions are Pagan I'm not sure about that but I do know God know our intentions and heart keeping it simple this year Merry Christmas everyone 😊we have alot to be thankful for
Depends on what you're celebrating for the holidays but what you've heard is most likely wrong.
Don’t stay in ignorance, do you’re own research
The Christmas trees have been said to date back to pagan Germanic celebrations and were co-opted into the Christian celebration when these regions were evangelized.
Yes Christmas is pagan... but so is our calender as well as church on Sundays and Easter 🐣 . So is your wedding ring. So yes keep your intentions as pure as possible
@robwilkins9890 thank you Rob
If you are going to get a Christmas tree, go out into a forest, find a pine tree or whatever tree and cut it down or buy the cheapest plastic tree you can find. Anything under 100$
Elderly are really having it bad ...
😔🙏🏻
I can remember a few lean christmas' when my children were very young...my husband went to the tree lot late Christmas eve after they closed up shop...got our tree for free and decorated for the kids to surprise them the next morning
Great show today Dan…thank you for the hard work…you are appreciated 😊
Been sending money for awhile. Figure my son can get what he Needs. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, Being Thankful for what i do have is more important
Seminole Fl Dollartree..affordable food avoid ultraprocessed food..household needs..grocery stores for produce sweet potatoes..bananas....can put together a nutrious meal for $1.20..for 1 person
Got a dwarfMr Alberta living tree- found one for 13$ and can live for years
I was big into Subway back in the late 90s, I wanted to buy a franchise.... or several franchises. Luckily that didn't happen. Subway over developed. I knew a franchise owner that owned two stores near each other. One day he finds out that between his two stores, Subway was putting in a new franchise that was going to take customers from his two stores. Set him off and he went and sold off all of locations.
Thanks for sharing today. Remember to watch Ted Broer, pilot, certified scuba diver and CEO of Healthmasters and his son Austin Broer based in Florida. Ted Broer says health is your wealth and without it you have nothing 0.00. We buy and use his products. Like him or not he is spot on... stay healthy everyone
excellentttttttttttt
There are millions of people that have been buying things on credit with no intention to ever paying back. They don’t care about how much anything costs. They know nothing will happen to them as there are no consequences for your actions anymore. The only people that cannot afford Christmas are the old school responsible people who pay their bills.
Small gifts to grandkids this year and a nice contribution to their 529 plan. I despise all the consumerism
I have a fake Christmas tree, it was my sister's, and she's had it for 35 years, it's still in great shape, my daughter wanted it up, so it's up,
"The Reason For The Season..." As always, Thank you for your information, Dan. Nice work!
In 2017 my wife and I finally hit a time where we were saving, investing, enjoying activities and vacations. Now 2024 we are worse off than ever.
I always bought real trees, but I stopped a few years back. Seems they kept getting more and more expensive, so I went with a fake one. It's not the same, but I ain't wasting money for a tree that starts dying one or two weeks later.
My mother finally went to artificial decades ago. The last one disintegrated as we were putting it up. It was the last year of her life. We were very careful taking it back down but it just kept breaking. Turns out it was 10 years old and was just worn out. I told my mother it lasted long enough and that we’d get a new one. (It was a prelit) We never replaced it. I have a small artificial tree I got from Cost Plus there in Costa Mesa and moved with me to North Carolina. I bought my father and I a year pass to the botanical gardens here and we went there for the tree and lights this year.
I'm old enough to remember when you ordered your new car from the dealership and waited a month to get it. I was thinking the other day if they would go back to this sales model.
The economy and the world are changing.we have to adapt and survive .im not messed up about it .Merry Christmas everyone
Great place to be today!
Growing up my parents had a live tree. It was traditional. I thought last year a live Douglas 6-7 foot tree was $54.00. Now at HD a Douglas 6-7 foot tree was $58.00. At Lowe’s a live Douglas tree 6-7 foot is $62.00.
Nope, don’t need it! Traditional anymore is the past!🙁
We are bypassing Xmas gifts this year ...we moved to a less expensive place to live and with all the costs associated and things we needed to buy for our new apartment...nothing left ! And HELLO from Las Vegas Nevada
Being single, I do not decorate for Christmas. I send cards and gifts to my kids, their spouses and grandkids. Also send cards to friends.
Dan ! Christmas with all the trimmings very easy, when you own a 'money tree' from ALL the great financial tips that came from this channel and a few others, over the years Thank you. and Next Year be better.
Love and kindness are free
ThANKS Rudolph
Love love the dollar store Dan, I agree on Subway nachos though booooo! Something interesting, Big Lots is going out of business where I live, and I cannot find a parking place at Goodwill.
A dealership is necessary for warranty work on the vehicles.
Apparently the Amazon deal is that they have established affiliated Hyundai dealerships in 48 cities across the USA. I suppose the idea is they have a preset best price that you access by buying through the Amazon website, but you still go to the dealership to make the purchase as usual, and Amazon receives a referral fee. This would be pretty much like the Costco car buying program that has been around for many years.
🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
Not us, we do not carry or use credit cards.. gas, groceries, insurances going up causing mortgage to go up.. utilities through the roof!
I usually love the season, cooking, baking, having friends and family stop by during the season playing games. then a fun celebration the reason for the season and time together on Christmas.. this year it doesn’t even seem like it’s the month leading up to Christmas let alone 9 days away. My husband and I instead of buying gifts for each other, we usually buy two bikes and two helmets and some toys and clothes & Jackets and gloves for the toy drives..it’s so disappointing not happening this year… we’ve never had a lot of money, we are great at doing without and saving so we can do that for Christmas, but this year is so different.. takes the fun and good feelings away… praying for the needy children and families, I’m sure we are not the only ones who are not going to be able to afford the donations this year!
😔

Seems like Charlie Brown had the best Christmas with Charlie Brown tree. We have had the same four-foot tree for ten years. Just the other day my wife posted on facebook market place to offer for free toys that my grandson out grew. What we noticed there were a lot of toys people were giving away free. So go to market place and you may be able find the toy that was last years toys. You buy trees and lights and usually toys the day after Christmas. When we did buy our 4 foot tree it was 50 percent off couple of days after Christmas.
other than the irriation of crowds of shoppers and places I need to use being closed, xmas is just another day to me. You make this problem for yourself with your ideas that you MUST have decorations, you MUST give presents, you MUST go visit people, you MUST have a tree, , blah blah. Take all of that hassle and expense and use it to buy some platium or gold coins and hide them where only you know to find them. Then next year, and the next year, do the same and you'll actually HAVE something and you wont have ulcers, etc, from all of the hassles and wasted time/money.
Wow on the price of trees!! I am not setting up a tree this year, but where I live...I can walk into about any pasture and cut out a nice cedar (with a great aroma) with nothing more than a chainsaw and pick-up bed to load it in to. If you know local ranchers or farmers who have cedars in their pastures, they will most likely welcome you to cut one out (or a dozen!).
Electronic price tags on groceries....
Price changes by the time you reach the register!!!!!!!
Wow!!!!!
Christmas cards aren't being sent as much this year. Postage is $.73 this year. We beat this cost by going to a stamp show where dealers have older Christmas stamps at 20 to 25% below face value. Our friends are emaiing their Christmas letters instead of including them in a card (which they are not sending).
Christmas cards in the mail are a theft item. People steal them because they might contain money or gift cards.
I HATE subway it's not a hoagie or sub at all!!!!!!!!!!!! I will always eat at Jersy Mikes if I have a cravin! I am from Pa now living in Texas (past 11 years) I DO WITHOUT!
This Christmas I am giving everyone a IOU
our christmas for the last few years! have been very bleak here! it is more important to pay my bills put food in the fridge gas in my car ! my adult kids are buying overpriced gifts to exchange with each other but im on ssi my whole check goes to rent bills and food ! i heard that they are moving christmas starting in july now ! so retail can meet the quota ! i dont see a whole lot of people flooding the store here where i live spending money on christmas ! im in good company here with that !
our christmas tree lot here in hemet is not moving a lot of tree's out either here to be honest ! i see more trees coming out of the thrift store now then the lot !
I have a 4 ft artificial Christmas tree I purchased for $ 4.99 at Rite Aid after the holiday season several years ago. Set up in 10 minutes and take down in 10 minutes.
DAN - I think Christmas trees have been WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for years. That's why we got a fake tree one year and use it many times over. Also, I used to buy natural fir wreaths at Christmas, but this year I bought a fake wreath and decorated it myself, for less than the cost of natural fir wreaths. Things are way out of my price range now to decorate for Christmas!
