About the end of the duel, how did you display a life point counter?

How did Marik activate Remove Trap when Crush Card Virus activated? Since it's a Normal Spell and cannot be activated during the Battle Phase unless Spell Sanctuary is on the field. Plus the card description doesn't say it negates the effect.
