    There's actually different dialogue for Chara if you decide to repeat the genocide route:
    Greetings.
    I am Chara.
    "Chara."
    The demon that comes when people call its name.
    It doesn't matter when.
    It doesn't matter where.
    Time after time, I will appear.
    And, with your help.
    We will eradicate the enemy and become strong.
    HP. ATK. DEF. GOLD. EXP. LV.
    Every time a number increases, that feeling...
    That's me.
    "Chara."
    ...
    But.
    You and I are not the same, are we?
    This SOUL resonates with a strange feeling.
    There is a reason you continue to recreate this world.
    There is a reason you continue to destroy it.
    You.
    You are wracked with a perverted sentimentality.
    Hmm.
    I cannot understand these feelings any more.
    Despite this.
    I feel obligated to suggest.
    Should you choose to create this world once more.
    Another path would be better suited.

      @@hellofizzi Good luck with that, it's best to avoid the fanbase's interpretation of Chara because of how far off it is from actual canon. The fanbase has somehow gotten into their heads that Chara is a crazy demon child who wants nothing more than to kill everything that ever lived and would gladly do it over and over again. However canon Chara isn't like that AT ALL. As mentioned above if you do more than one Genocide Run Chara openly admits that they don't understand your actions. Based on what they said it sounds to me like they were under the impression that you had a reason behind your actions however as soon as they realize you went out of your way to kill everything you could find in the underground just for fun they become disgusted with you.
      And as mentioned above they also go out of their way to tell you to do something else, in other words: STOP KILLING EVERYTHING. Not to mention Chara is one of the only 3 characters in the game that directly call you out for your actions. In fact before Chara allows you to keep playing the game they go out of their way to emphasize to your face that actions have consequences. If you compare canon Chara and the insultingly inaccurate version spread by the fandom they are completely different characters entirely, which is why it's best to take all your information directly from the game and not the fandom. Or at the very least take every information you learn with a grain of salt.

    Mettaton NEO: "Dr Alphys greatest invention"
    Sans: "The easiest enemy, can only deal 1 damage. Can't keep dodging forever. Keep attacking."
    My personal idea is that sans actually isn't talking about the player when he talks about the timelines, but somehow he was observing Flowey's messing around with the timeline, because he was stuck underground for who knows how long before we came along, so all those timelines "stopping and starting" are floweys resets and save files

      About flowey it only makes sense, since you could do a genocide route and might not even make any saves, and he would still talk about it. The lore behind Undyne melting is actually that she has Determination. See, in the true lab, it’s shown that monsters with determination melt, because they can’t handle it, resulting in the drippy looking amalgamates. If you kill Undyne outside of Genocide, she’ll start melting as well, trying to hold her form together, but she can’t manage it.
    But when the chips are down, when EVERYTHING is on the line. Not just monsters. But the world. Undyne pulls on that determination, that no monster should be able to handle. It should kill her. But it doesn’t. It’s the same substance that allows for the barrier to be broken, for Flowey and Frisk to save, reload, and reset, and it is a powerful substance.
    Undyne the Undying is the product of a monster pushing through impossible barriers to gain the power to defeat YOU.

    I want to note that because Asriel is a boss monster, Chara could have absorbed his soul. So if they were truly evil back then, they could have killed him and crossed the barrier. Instead, they chose to sacrifice themself.
    Given that they came to Mt. Ebott for “not a very happy reason,” and Toriel has filed down the tools in her home and hidden the knives, this makes me think Chara was an extremely troubled child.
    I believe they truly cared for their family and wanted to set them free, even if they hated humanity. And in this route, you drag them down the path of violence.
    Their body was buried where you fall in the ruins, and when you fall, your determination awakens their spirit. However, it’s linked to your own soul, so Frisk and Chara have a metaphysical link in some way. Sharing EXP, LOVE, maybe even feelings. It’s very easy to make Chara conform to your own worldview.
    There are some implications that Chara is present throughout all runs, as the narrator. You’re constantly getting flashbacks from their perspective, including when you die, seeing memories from their deathbed. If you look into this there’s a bit of evidence for it. Personally I believe Chara can be “good” or “evil,” depending on which route you pick. But either way they’re a depressed 10 year old who died extremely traumatically so I think it’s a little reductive to apply labels like that to them. Just like Flowey has killed everyone, but he’s not necessarily “evil,” just lashing out because of trauma.
    Anyways, great commentary. If you’d like, you should take a look at all the neutral route endings, there’s a huge variety of things that can happen! There’s also some canon post-pacifist dialogue, the alarm clock dialogue. You can look this up and find it, it was written for a kickstarter goal that was delayed to focus on deltarune. I think it’s extremely cute but also has some interesting story implications.

    • @hellofizzi
      @hellofizzi  8 месяцев назад +57

      Thank you for all of this! I agree with your characterization of Chara a lot - I genuinely think they where just horribly troubled, maybe a little mischievous (like Kris) in nature. I think I called Chara manipulative at one point, especially in regards to Asriel, but I don't think that's quite right anymore - I just think they (chara) had the innate ability to lead (like Kris.) This ability to "lead" could then be twisted into "command/ manipulation" by us (much like we do to Kris in the weird route.) I'm seeing a lot of Kris/ Chara parallels after this route!
      The tools being filed down and the hidden knives are a nice touch, some of the precautions families must take when they are caring for someone that isn't well.

    • @endervalentine9588
      @endervalentine9588 8 месяцев назад +38

      @@hellofizzi Another thing that strikes me is that Chara is implied to act older than they are - their formal style of speaking in their monologue and presumably calling Asriel a “crybaby”. It reminds me of how kids who grow up in bad homes might be forced to grow up too quickly due to the trauma they face. And they seem to kind of repeat harmful behaviors that they learnt from humans, accidentally hurting the people in their life. That’s why I think Asriel says they’re “not the greatest person.”
      One of my favourite little details from the no mercy run is when you check the royal guards, the flavour text reads, “I see two lovers standing over the edge of the cauldron of hell. Do they both wish for death? That means their love will end in hell. I couldn’t stop laughing.” This is actually a quote from a Japanese contemporary novel called Kitchen (by Banana Yoshimoto). I’ve read this novel and it’s definitely deeply reminiscent of Chara, with a character talking about plants on her deathbed, and the main character basically coming to terms with being surrounded by death and getting through it with support from a close friend/lover. I don’t know, just the fact that Chara quotes this novel feels like it gives some insight into their character, which is so sparse throughout Undertale. I wouldn’t have read it without the game, and I really enjoyed it.

Apparently Alphys came through and told her to evacuate with her like everyone else and that Alphys won't close off entirety of Hotland until Muffet left. Muffet laments that her only regret is that she should have just taken Alphys right then and there to turn her into a pastry.
    Essentially, Muffet doomed monsterkind because of her ignorance and ego. Even though no one deserved to die in this route, I feel like Muffet was definitely one of the most deserved. She had it coming and was practically begging for it, even when warned.

      There we go! (pulls out a list)
      First :Muffet Didn't doomed anyone.(except herself)
      hotland is still filled with 43 other monsters (who's safety would probably be just as important to Alphys as muffet's), plus flowey would open our way forward Anyway (and I believe that alphys DID ended up closing off hotland, but flowey opened our way, since the path we go through isn't even crossable from muffet's side making it unlikely to be the one Alphys was Supposed to leave for her )
      Second :when she said she regreted not eating Alphys, she was most likely joking, seeing how She's consistently shown to not have an intent to (and even refuse while Being paid to) kill someone who have never hurt a spider.
      That plus the fact that it's perfectly in line with her sense of humor (Like seriously. She jokingly says that She's going to kill us like 3 times after She spares us)
      ....... I never was as passionate about an misconception as much as about this one

    Undertale's genocide route is a commentary on completionism. If you watch back Sans's dialogue during the latter part of the fight, that becomes very clear. He says that he thought the spacetime anomaly (you) would stop once you'd get some friends, good food and bad laughs. But the players' completionism just wouldn't stop, doing endless runs to get every ending there is, including this one. The final one. And at the very end? If you choose to try to play again? You sell your soul to completionism (chara) just to do it all again.
    "Don't you have something better to do?" appears throughout the game as dialogue and also plays into this

    this is a great video, a few things the playthrough missed or that you didnt seem to notice:
    - You can encounter Napstablook if you haven't killed all monsters in the ruins yet. If you try to kill Napstablook, they will eventually mention that you can't kill ghosts because they're incorporeal, and that they were only lowering their HP to not be rude. They then phase away and say to 'pretend you beat them'. The fight then ends, with you losing one experience point (notably this has no effect on EXP because EXP is not experience). You can also spare Napstablook without aborting the genocide run.
    - In toriel's house, interacting with the silverware drawer will cause the narration to say "Where are the knives." in red text. Chara is known to really like knives, as the knife/locket in their room is their set of 'fallen child items'.
    - Related to this, the Real Knife and The Locket are the same exact items as the Worn Dagger and Heart Locket that typically appear there outside of genocide. The Worn Dagger is said to be 'Perfect for cutting plants and vines', which may be a reference to Asgore's love for gardening, and the dagger may have been used by Chara when gardening with Asgore. in Genocide, it is considered a knife and has a much higher attack stat, because the amount of killing has likely caused Chara to see these items only for their killing ability.
    - tem shop doesn't let you pay for college (or obtain the temmie armor) in genocide. the option is replaced with a 'premium temmie flake' which costs 1000g but still only heals 2HP
    - if you check Monster Kid, the description will say "Looks like free EXP"
    - it's never truly confirmed but it's speculated/implied that when alphys was evacuating everyone, she was actually bringing everyone to the true lab
    - if you try and fight Mettaton without killing everyone in hotland/core, he'll still go NEO and you'll still kill him in one shot. He will then say that he can tell you aren't completely evil, and that if you were trying to be then you messed up.
    - when Flowey says 'please don't kill me', his text 'voice' blips use Asriel's voice instead of his own, likely attempting to appeal to Chara
    - just a general thing, but the Undyne the Undying and Sans fights are WAY harder than this video makes them look. for most players i see, Undyne takes about 10 attempts and Sans takes about 20+. Sans actually has unique dialogue when the fight starts based on how many times he's killed you. most playthroughs i see hit about the halfway point of the video by the time they reach sans.
    - when Sans is sparing you, you can spare him back. Doing so will have him feel relieved, saying that he knows how hard it is to go back on what you've worked on (presumably because sparing would end the 'kill everyone' thing you were doing), and that he won't let it go to waste. He then goes in for a hug, before performing an unavoidable attack that will always kill you. The game over screen will have sans celebrate ("get dunked on") before saying 'if we're really friends, you won't come back'. Many interpret this as him pranking the player, trying to get one more cheap kill, but i always interpreted this as him giving one final chance for you to do the right thing and reset back to a normal run, and killing you in a quick way to get you back to a position where you can reset. note that if you do come back and attack him when he spares you again, he'll note you look really pissed off and he'll ask if he 'got you'. he'll then say 'i guess we never were friends', before grimly asking you not to tell the other sans-es
    - if you reset before killing sans, flowey at the start will get mad at you and say 'we were so close, why did you have to mess it up?'

    • @hellofizzi
      @hellofizzi  8 месяцев назад +18

      Thank you! This is a lot of great insight that I definitely missed.
      Sans killing you when you accept his spare would have really caught me off guard, but... what else could he do in this situation, you've put Sans in a, "Kill or be killed" scenario (thanks Flowey!)
      I noticed Flowey mimicking Asriel's face, but I didn't take into account that the voice blip changed too!
      I was wondering why the locket/ knife changed between routes, the Chara/ narrator theory plays into this very well since it's not necessarily the items changing, just how they are being described! If that's the case I wonder how Chara felt seeing Frisk start the genocide run, killing monsters, killing Toriel...

    Making a separate comment for this:
    Chara is heavily implied to be the narrator for the entire game in all routes, but it's most implied here. People have headcanoned that Chara takes form as some sort of invisible ghost that can speak to you as Napstablook is one of the only ones to explicitly respond to narration, them also being a ghost.
    This is just my thoughts on the matter but I think Chara poisoned themselves and told Asriel to absorb their soul out of a true love and sacrifice for monsters, being the people who shared unconditional love with them. It's just when they got to the surface and humans attacked them, that's when Asriel and Chara had completely opposite intentions. Chara wanted to demolish the humans, that hatred likely rising back up but Asriel restrained them from attacking and as a result, they got horribly injured and eventually succumbing to those injuries when they come back Underground. The plan to get the souls to free everyone had failed.
    I'm glad you realize Chara is definitely a troubled character as well, a lot of people just pile on the assumption that they're evil because they appear at the end of the genocide route which they're not. They only get pushed past the brink after you show them the overwhelming power of genocide as they say here. When you first woke them up aka when Frisk fell down with their determination, Chara was just as confused as we are when we first enter the underground. Even after brining the world back after genocide, the damage done to Chara has already been done and after selling our soul, Chara has free reign to take over once it is out of our hands like the end of a pacifist route.
    There's a lot to talk about when it comes to Chara and all the different moral stances people think Chara takes. They're one of my favorite characters so I suggest formulating your own opinion on them. We can't know what happened with them before in the human world but we can definitely see how it may have affected them.

      The ghost thing theory is very interesting, I always forget that the ghosts are kind of their own thing, not ghost-monsters, but ghosts.
      Chara, I think I referred to them as manipulative during this video - and I said this in another comment somewhere, but I think I was wrong.
      I think Chara has a lot of parallels with Kris - Troubled, mischievous, but deeply caring for those that are close to them. Their fear/ aversion to humans and ability to lead is also mirrored in Kris. In the Snowgrave route, we can warp Kris into something darker though... which isn't much different to what's happening here with Chara.

    Hey, you've joined the club of sickos (including myself) that were too weak to do it themselves, but HAD to know what happened. I've never been called out so hard before through someone ELSE'S game. One big thing this playthrough misses though, is that when fighting Sans again and again, he starts counting the number of times you've died to him just by your expression alone. He gets to about 11 or 12 times before saying you'll need to keep track for him. (And I've seen playthroughs where people have died over a hundred times before beating him.)

      It's odd, because Asgore does this to a certain extent in normal route (you tell him how many times you've died, and he nods his head, as if he knows) and on the flip side Sans uses Asgore's "beautiful day" dialogue before telling us to go to hell. There wasn't really a point to this comparison, just something that came to mind when I read your comment!

      1 to 4 deaths
      " You tell Asgore that he killed you 1-4 times"
      " He nods sadly"
      5 to 9 deaths
      " You tell Asgore he killed you 5-9 times"
      "He nods grievously"

      "Asgore nods pitfully"

      Some hints on the game say that humans could maybe reset.
      Toriel saying that every time an human falls she feel like she meet them for an long time.
      And Alphys saying that all humans had determination.
      So maybe Asgore know what's he's doing, he possibly killed them so much that they stop having determination and the will to live.
      Asgore is going easy on you, his stats are 80atk and 80def, he could 1 hit you, amd you see his defense getting lower with esch attack, he also has an mechanic that if an attack was suppose to kill you(like having 2 hp with an 5 dmg attack) Asgore just left you with 1 hp, Undyne says Asgore could dodge luke Sans, Asgore can touch the menu like Sans, Asgore also almost don't use his trident on the fight, and you can even make him weaker by talking and eating the pie.

      This is just my personal view on it but I feel like Chara only awakens in the genocide route because the sheer power from your high LOVE literally, as they said, awakens them from death. And in the neutral or pacifist route, they haven't been fully brought back to life because your LOVE isn't high enough. So I like to think that they are more of just a mere "essence" in the neutral and pacifist routes, not conscious or corporeal in any way but can still be kinda noticed in the form of their memories. I think this is why Frisk has that waterfall flashback and why they hear Asgore everytime they die. They're experiencing Chara's memories, but Chara is not there in whole. It's like there's only a small piece of Chara there, and Frisk is experiencing some really crazy deja vu
      Also I don't think Chara was completely evil demon child but instead that they only become twisted in genocide because all the slaughter they're seeing is teaching them that the purpose of their reincarnation is power and that just feeds into all the resentment and bitterness they had in the past, exacerbating their worst traits.

    1:57:00 Do keep in mind that despite having just killed Asriel, Chara still calls the plan they had with Asriel "Our plan." Not "My plan," our. Despite this, their plan was to kill themself, and then they and Asriel would kill six humans, meaning even in life, they were willing to kill. While it was to free monsterkind, and sacrificing yourself is pretty heroic, that's still saying something. Kid had issues. They're not a pacifist by any means, but if they wanted to commit genocide from the get-go, they could've just done it when they fell into the underground. More neutral, which is... still pretty messed up by person in society standards. Of course, the dialogue is vague enough that many interpretations are fair. One last thing: consider that Kris is likely Chara's Deltarune counterpart. Kris is more of an ominous prankster who's clever but can take things a little too far. I like to think Chara's more like that, just in a far more intense situation.

      While I agree with this, I personaly think kris is A-an new character or B-Frisk.
      Kris has Frisk hair color, skin color, same -_- face, and chara eyes are brown, meaning the the red eyes in soulles pacifist are from frisk, so both Kris amd Frisk have red eyes, Asriel is way older than kris, while Chara and Asriel were the same age.
      You could say that Kris is Kris because they have an green/yellow shirt, but is said in deltarune that kris clothes are mostly like from their brother, so Frisk could use the green sweater, you could say both Chara and Kris like chocolate... But who doesn't? The only thing I believe is Kris and Chara more prankster nature, that's something I can't deny that points to Chara.(and the whole gender thing, but that's for another time)
      I just really want Kris to be Frisk(or an new character) because I want to see an chapter where Asriel brings Chara, their college friend/roommate to visit hometown(because Chara life's still shit) and we would see Kris and Chara, people that don't like humans interact with each other(Chara probably doesn't HATE humans as they're adults if they exist in deltarune) and see how Asriel/Chara relationship is when they aren't trapped underground

      @@ViniciusDiasissy Why would you want them to be Frisk? For one, Frisk has no obvious personality. Unless Chara, whose narration and actions here prove to be the only character that has some sort of will and personality. And the only one who fights back against the player, like Kris does. They also like chocolate, and spoiler alert, LOTS of ppl don’t like chocolate. I sure as heck don’t. So that is more proof supporting the Kris and Chara thing. You can’t hand wave evidence away that doesn’t support your point, but then pull out evidence for your point that’s minimal in comparison.
      Chara and Kris share the same color of hair and same color of outfit. Kris also has a creepy smile that scares Noelle during pranks and angers Susie. The red eyes are irrelevant, as Kris’ eyes aren’t shown unlike Frisk’s. Kris’ eyes are likely not shown cuz they’re possessed by US. And yes, the prankster nature is relevant.
      Chara wouldn’t be some random person they meet in college cuz Chara was partially meant as a parallel to us. They take on pacifistic and murderous tendencies depending on what route you take (pacifist and neutral for good, no mercy for bad). So Chara cannot be separated from the player, hence why it’s likely they’re AU Kris. Also, Chara wouldn’t be the same even if they were a college friend. In this world it’s implied that adopting humans is normal, so a town full of humans to mess up Chara wouldn’t exist most likely. With Kris and Asriel, you get to see their relationship regardless. I cannot follow your logic. Frisk is canonically more like a puppet (check out the legends of localization book), so them being Kris would be lame. We don’t need to meet “Chara”.
      The only evidence I could think of for yours is that we name Chara, but not Frisk. And in Deltarune, we attempt to name ourselves but we are forced into Kris. But in UT, we name a person who doesn’t show up narratively until we force it to “see what happens”. So unless Chara returns as the vessel, that’s unlikely. We could determine the past of who died, but not the present

      Chara hair is a lot brighter than Kris, and while I'm not saying it couldn't changed over time, Kris hair is dark like Frisk, like I said, Chara and Kris clothes are just Asriel ones(or the ones Toriel and Asgore bough), as Kris in the dark world talk about wearing whatever they want, it wouldn't be that far off to say that Frisk would use the same green outfit, I can't say nothing about the smile(and pranks), that's a point to you, but Kris shows the same colour both with or without the soul, so I'm not too sure about it.

      -
      My main problem with Kris being Chara is the fact of the pallets, the clothes doesn't matter(that much) and could just be changed, but the skin, the hair, the eyes, the dumb face can't, not only that, the fact that Asriel and Kris are diferent ages, I know Deltarune Asriel should be 100 older or something if he had undertale Asriel age, and that ages aren't really important in diferent universes, but is still something to notice.

    Behold, the reason Undyne is my favorite character in Undertale
    She was already pretty high up there because I loved her personality as this encouraging friend who never does anything with any less than 100% of her power, and wants to bring that out of everyone she knows, too. But in this route, she straight-up looks a demon in the face and fights to the very end, even for the humans she hates, as she knows your rampage won’t stop at the Barrier.
    And, to answer your question: Undyne did melt because of her _natural_ determination. Determination is commonly misunderstood in Undertale as something only humans have and that monsters will melt if they have any, but in reality, all humans and monsters have determination. Just monsters aren’t able to hold as much natural DT as humans. So, Undyne here is so determined to stop you at any cost that her natural DT goes into overdrive. Even to the last moment, she refuses to die until she literally can’t anymore.
    She really is my favorite character through and through

I'd say a lot of people overlook them, but several of those endings really add a lot to characters personalities. Nice to see someone who is looking into details that also get overlooked in this route!

    1:17:30 By the way, you can still do Muffet's fight on a LV 20 run, it's just that attacking kills her instantly. But if you let her talk, she has incredibly interesting dialogue involving the evacuation, it's a nice easter egg. Also, that flower was 100% for Muffet, did you see how the spider fled after leaving it? It zooms out of there as soon as you LV up.

    A thought I had is that Chara's memory placements have meaning.
    The most obvious memory is when Frisk falls down at the waterfall, where Asriel meeting Chara for the first time is shown to us. Frisk lands on a bed of golden flowers (maybe conjured into being by Chara's memory?), and a track called "Memory" plays. I think that the memory is shown to us because Chara experienced it after they fell down into the underground. They are awaking from death after we (or Frisk) make them experience something that they remember. This happens in every playtrough, not just the genocide route.
    Another memory is the game over screen, after we die we see Chara dying and Asgore telling them to stay determined.
    One memory I haven't seen mentioned before is the bed memory in Toriel's house, Asgore pleads for Chara to "please wake up" and that they are "the future of humans and monsters". It's Toby telling us to continue playing the game, but I think it has a deeper meaning. Maybe this was Chara's deathbed because it's somehow connected to their death. It's in Toriels house so it doesn't make a lot of sense for it to be their deathbed, Chara's room was in Asgore's home. It could be that Toriel's house and room remind Chara so much of home that the memory surfaced anyway. These little details make the game so much sadder.

    Undyne the Undying is probably the best boss fight I've experienced in any video game. Undyne is my favorite character in Undertale, and her story is so good. Combine that with the fact that the fight itself is so fun from a mechanical perspective and it's such a high point in the run

    I just wanted to say one thing
    "our reports showed a massive anomaly in the timespace continuum. timelines jumping left and right, stopping and starting..."
    That's Sans talked about RESETs and SAVE & LOADs
    "until suddenly, everything ends."
    And that is the end of genocide run. When Chara gives us a choices to erase the world or do not, the resoult will be the same at any choice - destruction of the universe and every timeline
    Sans doesn't fight us because we killed a lot or because we killed his brother. He knows that there is no point in that, because with our ability to SAVE in the end he will lose no matter the effords that he putted in it. This is why he became so lazy. He knows about resets and he knows that no matter what he will do everrything will be reseted at some point and he won't even remeber it
    Sans does care about Papyrus. If we gonna kill Papyrus in Neutral run, he will call us "dirty brother killer". But he won't fight us, because he knows that its useless
    The only reason he put a fight on Genocide run is because his reports showed him, that if we will continue this run - it will cause a destruction of the universe
    So if he can't afford to do nothing this time. He have to at least try. Because other wise, no reset will bring back this world
    (small bonus. Originaly, after a choice that Chara gave us, the game was supposed to delete itself. But it was too hard to code, so Toby desided to leave a black screen)

    One point about Chara that's not often mentioned is that they came up with their plan to free the monsters after accidentally poisoning Asgore with buttercups, implying that they chose this method of suicide as punishment for themselves. You mentioned that maybe the monsters were close to fixing Chara's issues, and it's plausible that this incident completely broke Chara's trust in themselves to be good.

    The geno run is incredibly interesting and I think analysing it in the light of "the player character and the player are seperate" shows jsut how well Toby writes subtle metafiction, as seen later in Deltarune as well. Since.. as Flowey says, the only thing that can ruin a true pacifist ending is you, the player, who he ASSUMES in Chara.

    Loved your analysis of Chara at the end! There's some debate around what they might have been like when they were alive, but I pretty much agree with everything you said. You also wondered about exactly what the relationship between Frisk and Chara is: I believe that when Frisk fell onto Chara's grave, Frisk's determination woke up Chara's "essence" in a way, the same way that determination woke up Asriel's "essence" in Flowey. This is by far the most interesting no mercy playthrough I've ever watched. And by playthrough, I mean reaction! Hahaha, I was very excited to see how you would react to Flowey's dialogue about watching the route instead of playing it. Your commentary was insightful and I'm really happy to see what you think of the narrative.
    Some more clarification with the Glad Dummy- Mad Dummy is a ghost possessing that dummy. They are looking for their ideal body to fuse with. When you meet them on the no mercy route, they get so emotional that they end up fusing. On the switch version of Undertale, some content was added that continued their story a bit more. It's probably not long enough for a reaction video but I recommend checking it out on your own!
    It was also really weird to see someone making comparisons to Deltarune's Weird Route. Usually, it's the other way around! It was really neat overall.

    Flowey actually solves all of Snowdin‘s puzzles for you. If you try to interact with the lever before Dogamy and Dogaressa, it says that there’s vines holding the lever down.
    Also, the agreed upon pronunciation of Chara is „K-arr (like a pirate)-ahh
    Also also, if you do at some point try to beat geno, remember this: If you die with even a single healing item left in your inventory, you didn’t try to win.
    ALSO ALSO ALSO, Sans has special dialogue if you die to him a few times:
    Death 1
    * heya…
    * you look frustrated about something.
    * *guess I’m pretty good at my job, huh?*
    Death 2
    * hmm…
    * that expression…
    * that’s the expression of someone who just died twice in a row.
    * suffice to say, you look pretty… unsatisfied.
    * all right.
    * *how ‘bout we make it a third?*
    Death 3
    * hmm…
    * that expression…
    * that’s the expression of someone who died thrice in a row.
    * what comes after thrice, anyway?
    * *wanna help me find out?*
    Death 4
    * hmm…
    * that expression…
    * that’s the expression of someone who’s died quite in a row.
    * quice? frice?
    * *welp, won’t have to use it again anyways.*
    Death 5
    * hmm…
    * that expression…
    * that’s the expression of someone who’s died five times in a row.
    * convenient, huh? that’s one for each finger.
    * but soon…
    * *you’ll need a cool mutant hand to count all of your deaths.*
    Death 6
    * [you know the spiel]
    * that’s the number of fingers on a mutant hand.
    * but soon…
    * *you‘re gonna need to find a mutant hand with even more fingers.*
    Death 7
    * [blah blah blah]
    * hey, that’s good.
    * seven‘s supposed to be a lucky number.
    * who knows, maybe you’ll hit the jackpot…
    * *and that number will multiply tenfold.*
    Death 8
    * [ion remember ordering a yappuchino]
    * that’s the number of fingers on a spider.
    * wait, don’t spiders have legs?
    Death 9
    * hmm…
    * that expression…
    * that’s the expression of someone who’s died seven times in a row.
    * no, sorry, that’s definitely nine.
    * *or was it ten?*
    Death 10
    * hey, congrats! the big one-oh!
    * let’s invite all your friends over for a big shindig.
    * we can have pie, and hot dogs, and…
    * hmmm, wait. something’s not right…
    * *you don’t have any friends.*
    ouch
    Death 11
    * well, give or take.
    * there’s nuance to this stuff, you know?
    * i don’t think i’ll be able to count very well from here.
    * count for me, ok?
    * *we’ll start from 12.*
    All deaths from now on
    * let’s just get to the point.
    If you try to spare Sans when he spares you, he actually just kills you by filling the box up with bones. Instead of Asgore encouraging you I’m the death screen, it’s Sans saying „gettttttttttt dunked on!!!!!!!!!!“ and he has some more special dialogue if you return to him here.
    * you look REALLY pissed about something.
    * did i get ya?
    He also cuts himself off during the „flowers are blooming“ and immediately starts the first attack during your second try. He then says
    * anyways, as i was saying, it’s a nice day out.
    * why not relax and take a load off?
    After the second death, the monologue at the beginning just gets replaced with „ready?“

    I find Sans interesting. Flowey keeps his memory through loads and saves and resets (except True Reset) and so becomes aware of what you are doing. Sans cannot, but he is aware timelines exist, is very observant of your behavior, and still figures you out. Plus he has the power to manipulate space. His dialog when lost inside Asriel in pacifist and during the fight with him in genocide along with the stuff behind his house paint a picture of an injured soul who has seen much. “I given up trying to go back a long time ago”? I’d like to know more about Sans’ past. (I’ve never played or seen much of Delta Rune, so I don’t know if they expand on any of that there.)
    Overall, a very fun and interesting game.

    2:04:12 The Soulless Pacifist Endings are great, and it really shows Chara's character. When you beat the LV 20 route and finish the game, and are done with it then and satisfied with it being gone, Chara is satisfied, and calls you "a great partner." You understand that destroying everything means that everything is destroyed.
    But if you refuse to erase the game, they're, logically, confused. You just ruthlessly murdered all of these characters, destroying anything resembling a "real" connection with them, because you just felt a need to finish the game. So why on earth would you ever want to go back? When you reopen it, they're nothing but confused, just trying to figure out why the heck you would do something like this. After all, you really did just "lead this world to its destruction."
    But they allow you to go back for... whatever you're trying to do. But they, (extremely fairly, in my opinion) don't let you have a truly happy ending. If you wanted one of those, perhaps you should have tried that if you weren't going for completion after all. And if you, worst of all, do MULTIPLE LV 20 runs, they just wonder why, and call you "wracked with a perverted sentimentality." Great stuff. "Sure, you might be a terrible person for this, and I might be too for going along with it, but at least I own up to it."

    im sure other people have said this but i love how the phrase 'But nobody came' is used in both undertale and deltarune. in undertale it shows up when you call for help during the omega flowey fight, and obviously in geno, but in deltarune it shows up when you call for help from your friends in the snowgrave/weird route. it's just.. so eerie.
    i also like how in both games, where instead of the funny save flavor text saying somehthing silly ('blank fills you with determination, blank fills you with the power of blank') it's just. 'Determination.' and 'You and Noelle/Susie and Ralsei are filled with power.' it's so eerie and makes you miss the flavor text that was there.

      I didn't catch this, these themes carrying over between games just shows how much thought and consideration was putting into crafting these games! It's so strange how, on the surface - depending on how you play, these games can be a joyful happy experience, but the underlying themes are dark and somber regardless of how you conduct yourself.
      If it's the same scene you're referencing, Queen is looking for Nubert - but he stays behind with everyone else, I felt really awful about that one!

    If you wouldnt mind reading this (i may end up rambling on for a bit) but im going to talk about my personal experience woth the Genocide Route.
    So initially I had watched it before hand and knew what I was getting into. When I began it I was really hesitant on doing so, mainly because I had grown attached to these characters (like most people), it was that way throughout both Ruins and Snowdin, I was even stuck on the battle screen of Papyrus for about maybe 2 mins or so (really didnt want to kill him), and eventually moved on
    however what I began to notice as I was going through Waterfall is that whilst I began grinding, I felt disconnected, any sort of attachment just disappeared until more important characters appeared (like Monster Kid). Undyne took me about 20 tries to beat her and what felt really wrong, was that I was _happy_ that I was victorious.
    Hotland and the Core didnt have much impact on me, it just felt irritating how long it took and was a little disappointed that Mettaton NEO wasnt known for his high defense. Then, Sans. I am not kidding, it took me around 6-8 months to beat him, and you probably didnt know, but he comments on you and gives you dialogue every time you reload after dying to sans (about 12 different lines i think, i definitely recommend having a look). With that in mind, I would spend at least 5-10 mins every day to get slowly better at fighting sans to the point that I can take no damage from the first phase. Defeating Sans, was so painful but by far the biggest achievement I made in video games. Afterwards, to _try_ avoiding consequences, I reset after beating sans (he also has dialogue if you reload after defeating sans, 2 different ones i think, i recommend searching that up too).
    And that was my personal experience with the Genocide Route, a brutal, yet a very very interesting one id say.
    (Just a small note, I do recommend searching up the sans fight to see what happens if you spare him, other dialogue etc and maybe you'll get more depth into his character though I have to say you have analysed his character incredibly well).

    I have to say that watching you discover and get involved so much with these games has been a total ride and i'm thankfully for it, watching you fall so deeply in love with this world and characters as a lot of us did already 9 years ago is just awesome!
    I'll be over here ready for whatever you're planning to do next girl ^-^
    Here goes a few funfacts and things if you're interested btw:
    1-that form of undyne is called undyne the undying (very appropiated) and she gets it 'cause her own strong determination and will of stop you, making her more compatible than the amalgamates.
    If you kill undyne in a neutral route she actually tries to transform there too, but its not enough so she ends melting like the amalgamates before dying
    Undyne the undying's theme song is called "battle against a true hero" and is very apropiated too (and a banger, my favorite boss theme in undertale)
    Watching her battle + your reactions actually gave me goosebumps lol. That's why we are so hyped (or scared lmao) of her probably being in the next deltarune darkworld
    2- i wouldn't say that sans has any power in the game or the timelines,is more a lot of observation skill and knowledge, making him cappable of noticing weird things or the constants deja vus (he can actually count how much times do you die against him and make fun of you before every try)
    We didn't saw it on the video but if when sans spare you, you do the same he ask you to hug him, to suddenly kill you from behind (the game over screen is him saying that if you want actual mercy from him, give up the route and leave them alone)
    His battle theme is called "megalovania", and instead of being "sans's battle theme" is more of a theme dedicated to "the finale". In the files there's a more chill theme called "song that may play when you battle sans"
    Funfact: it'll never actually play lol
    3- about chara. . .is complicated. How much are they involved in the geno route is a constant debate in the fandom, but the general consensus is that everything is the player's doing, chara is just an expectator till the very end.
    Saying "but i didn't do anything, chara controlled frisk" or something like that is missing the whole point of the route.
    How much of "mercyless" chara was is unclear. But i would say that they weren't that bad. As we know they were truly happy living with the dreamurrs and even sacrificed their own life to give the monsters a change to fight back humanity (chara hated humanity for some reason)
    A very popular theory/headcanon is that chara is actually the game's narrator in every route, in every save file. As they mention how they awakened up the very first moment frisk falled down, so they should be awake even before the geno run starts (or before a pacifist)
    A few dialogues, descriptions and bits of context actually makes sence if we read them with chara reading it to us (like frisk suddenly having flashbacks about chara and asriel's life at some points)
    So i would say chara's "mercyless and evil" image we see at the geno end is just a result of US corrupting their soul, instead of the other way around
    (So in the pacifist ending chara would be another soul we ended saving by showing them a world with peace and mercy, putting them to rest again)

      Thank you for joining us *and* all this great insight! There's a lot of good stuff here!
      Sans killing you if you accept his spare - That is... amazing. I'm just imagining the situation from Sans perspective, that's a terrible thing to have to do, San's, Undyne, and Alphys really did everything they could to stop you.
      I don't think Chara is inherently evil, definitely angry at humanity - maybe that's why we're so inclined to see Chara as evil, we are all human after all.

    Instead of saying leveling up, we say Loveling up.
    13:28 if you're next attack is going to kill the enemy, the game turn the name yellow so you can spare.
    1:12:16 it's her own, because in the neutral run that happens as well, she starts melting and keep attacking you.
    1:17:42 if you talk with Muffet in the genocide Run, she talk about alphys warning her about frisk and that she should run, but Muffet reply saying she won't abandon her pastry and was thinking about eating Alphys and turn her into a cake.
    1:35:52 They were probably a mischievous bully, but they didn't seem to hate Monster kind and/or wanting to kill them, Chara hated *Human-kind* so much that they hated themself.
    1:54:15 They was influenced by ours Action, they were just confused to why they were following us, and then after we start killing the monster, they start thinking that's why they were brought back to life.
    Chara probably possessed/Haunted us when we/frisk fell into their Grave,the golden flowers bed at the beginning, and when frisk fell into the second flower bed(at the Dumpster) it probably gave them that flashback of Chara meeting asriel for the frist time.

    Some info on the dummies:
    Both the dummy in ruins (the one Toriel teaches you how to ACT) and the Mad Dummy are possessed by ghosts. Ghosts can possess any objects, but they also have the option to attune fully to those objects. Thats what happened to Mad Dummy, and that is why he can be killed now.
    One lore aspect that you ended up not seeing in your pacifist playthrough (it is very obscure, basically unlocking the pink house next to Napstablook’s house with a key you can buy with Catty and Bratty) is that Mettaton was a ghost too, but wanted a body to become a star. So he asked Alphys to create a body for him. That is why Alphys is so concerned when Mettaton runs out of batteries, because he is not only a robot, but a ghost too.

      In undertale, ruins dummy/napstablook/mettaton/maddy(mas dummy/mad mew mew) are all cousins, you can lear a little more in metta house with the key with Bratty and Catty.
      In deltarune, if you talk with Napstablook before releasing the dogs, they will say that they have to work to help their cousins.
      Deltarune didn't get an body because he didn't meet Alphys(it doesn't matter if Alphys is an scientists or not, in undertale she made metta body and THEN became the scientist for showing him to Asgore) and It's really depressed.
      Maddy is also in the house, probably didn't get her cat doll too like mettaton(mew mew seems more canon then dummy by toby) and seems angry more often, but she has an crush on Asgore for some reason?
      And the dummy didn't appear in Deltarune, they're just as quiet as in undertale, maybe they're in teh house with metta and maddy, maybe they move out, we don't know(fun fact, if you keep sparing/missing them in the tutorial fight in UT, they will fly away from you, maddy will later said you bored her cousin to dead and fight you like always)

    A few little details they missed (and random notes);
    If you check the switch of one of the first puzzles in Snowden, it mentioned that it's being held down by vines. So the reason all the puzzles aren't working is that Flowey solved them for you. (Which you guessed later without it.)
    Also killing Snowy is required. Apparently if you manage to fill the quota without killing him, it'll say "Missed the comedian" and the run will fail. Also if you spare every major encounter but still kill Snowy, Undyne has unique dialogue fighting you to avenge him.
    If you talk to the door at the back of Grilby's it says "You can't go through the fire exit because you're not made of fire." It's not genocide specific, but it's blocked off unless you kill everyone in the way, so that's the easiest way to see it.
    Also Snowden has unique Genocide music but in order to hear it you have to reach 0 kills left and enter town without triggering the "But nobody came" message. So it's tricky to get. Which is a shame as it's pretty nice.
    It's always odd to me that Monster Kid's scenes are so unchanged besides you being a bit rougher while climbing. Though I do always like stopping to look at the castle together in the rain.
    Also if you talk to the dog food bag in the lab it comments that the dogs on the bag "remind you of something funny". Yay dog murder!
    That comment about it being easier but more tedious really describes Hotlands. I've currently done 5 genocide runs and I always wonder why I haven't done more, then I get to Hotlands and just feel like "Oh yeah, that's why." The encounter rate drops with each kill, so by the end it's often several minutes between battles. One tip I have is that the mercenaries in The Core are scripted but they count towards your quota. So they're a good way of getting rid of the last few numbers when the encounter rate gets super slow.
    Sadly they skip the Muffet fight which has entirely new dialogue (described more in other comments) but it also includes one of my favorite lines in the game "They say even if you are a hyper-violent murderer... you never laid a single finger on a spider!"
    "Why did he die so fast?" Well, Neo is known for it's high defense.
    Also there's endless debate on why Sans is bleeding. We know he canonically drinks ketchup so it could just be that. Though given Susie's line that "Everyone bleeds" and bleeding herself in a dummied out sprite, it's also a popular theory he might be native to Deltarune or a similar world where monsters follow different physics.
    You mentioned Snowgraving Frisk, but it'd say it's closer to Snowgraving Chara. Our actions were so terrible we basically twisted them into a self-described demon.
    Rather than being buried, when monsters die and collapse into dust, apparently the dust is spread over their most treasured possession which is believed to absorb and carry on their soul. Asriel of course spread on the flowers by accident, but it's the same concept.
    Also if you kill Sans, get up to the very end, and then reset without finishing the genocide route and go Neutral/Pacifist and spare Flowey at the end, he has a neat unique scene too.

      Undyne has an unique dialogue if you.
      Kill dogamy and dogaressa.
      Kill greater dog.
      Kill lesser dog.
      Kill doggo.
      Kill shyren.
      Kill snowy.
      Kill everyone of the canine unit.
      Kill papyrus.
      You can only get one dialogue, with papyrus being the first in order to appear, with snowy and shyren being last
      There also dialogue depending what you did in the bridge.
      You saved mk.
      You run away from mk.
      You stay waiting for mk to fall.
      You go running to undyne.
      Undyne jump down to save them, has an dialogue talking about what you did instead of the hiding behind him amd have less hp in her fight.
      If you do pacifist after that, mk will not talk to you after the Asriel fight.
      If you call Undyne in waterfall, she will say she thought you would attack her if she helped mk, so she waited, being glad you saved him(I don't know id there's another dialogue if you let him fall)

    I'm just waiting for someone to mention Muffet's exclusive Genocide diolouge, so I can talk about how Badly the fandom misinterpreted it.
    Edit :I already said that about muffet's diolouge under the comment that mention it, but I'm just gonna put it here to just so more people will notice it:

    Chara being held up by asgore and toriel as the "Future of humans and monsters" probably put a whole lot of pressure on them.
    They were a likely abused/traumatised child (asriel says the reason they climbed the mountain wasnt for a very happy reason) who probably had a lot of self hatred sonce they hated humanity and then they felt they had to sacrifice themselves to set monsters free.
    I will always be a chara defender because honestly i find the idea of a small child being "evil" silly and especially when theres evidence they loved and cared about their family.

    I'm glad to see people unwilling to play the genocide run! It's kind of the point, really...
    A interesting fan theory about "Determination" is that "Determination" is basically the inability to end or "terminate". As in "de termination". The game likes making word plays like that with "Re fusing" "EXecution Points" it even does some mental gymnastics in some cases, like with "Level Of ViolencE".
    The "unwillingness to end" is quite fitting in the cases where Undertale uses "Determination"
    From Flowey coming back from Asriel's ashes (or rather dust), still going despite not even having a soul and being unable to die
    The Almalgamates melting together instead of turning to dust
    To Undyne being unwilling to just die (even in a neutral route, she takes super long to kill)
    And even for a player being unwilling to let go of the game without doing all endings...
    Oh, and the "death dance" input is just holding up and down at the same time.

    ive only now just found your vids and ive only watched your gaster lore video reaction, which was very fun btw, just want to point out, since i dont know how many people have done so in your ut videos and this one, that chara is also more than likely the narrator of the game, in every route, not just genocide, genocide is just where it's most in your face so people think chara is only there when they are present in every route. so chara is like you saw here in genocide at the end, but they are the one who made the normal undertale game so funny and enjoyable through their flavour text. hopefully ill find time later to see the rest of your videos soon, but if no one has mentioned this in your comments or you are curious about this, lemme know!

      1 you should probably give a better example since that one doesn't seem remotely weird not knowing how a plant is arbitrarily named vs observing something and deducing what it's for with your eyes.
      2 I don't even know what garbled text you're referring to. If you're referring to the flavor text in the amalgamates battles, especially versus Crystal, that alone, with how directly it's spoken and explicitly shows the narrator having a weird moment because of how unsettled the situation and detaching itself from Frisk even more there just shows even more it's because they are a different entity and diegetic.
      3 oh I suppose you didn't know then? The narrator in Undertale doesn't just immediately switch back and forth between pacifist and genocide. It's actually on a spectrum, which again even more highlights how something weird is going on with the narrator since their outlook on what's going on changes depending on your actions. The main thing that causes it is the bag of dog food in alphys' lab and the tree in toriel's garden. The game makes a point that, the more monsters you kill, unrelated to genocide, the more the narrator actively gets more pessimistic towards what's going on, and slowly turns sadistic/frisk turns sadistic the more LOVE you have and so the more you've distanced yourself from the monsters, similar to how Noelle slowly ends up like in the weird route. I'll mention the bag of dog food since I remember it better, if you haven't killed enough monsters, the narrator says it's half full. If you have killed enough monsters it's half empty. If the monsters killed are enough and you have killed a specific dog guard, the narrator adds that it made you think of something funny (killing said guard). The tree I don't recall the precise quotes, but it's the narrator slowly getting more sad at the tree being so lifeless as the monsters are killed, and eventually it turns in a twisted pleasure (again, completely unrelated to genocide).
      4 it's more or less my previous point from before. Toby wrote a script for pacifist narrator, genocide narrator, and an handful of dialogues to cover up the gradual spectrum that you would have from the various neutral plays. We literally see the intended point is the narrator and frisk slowly getting more and more distanced from everything and everyone as their LV increases, just like also Noelle is similarly put in that position, gladly hunting down monsters since it's what you've shown her and because it's to get stronger, which is exactly what LV 20 Chara says to you to at the end.
      When genocide is aborted, it's the same as when you abort a weird route, everything goes back to normal because you've shown both Noelle and Chara that this isn't the only way to do things, and they can return back to their previous states more or less. If you think the going back to normal is weird, than Noelle going back to normal in weird route should also not make sense
      Lemme know if you have more points tho! It's fun to see other perspectives! I can also give you points back I'd like you to answer without narrachara too if you're up to it!

    this is obviously a misunderstanding as,in fact,they are inactive the whole game

    however not only did they survive the fall,but found a new home,a new family,in a world that was tumbling down
    and then you know they and asriel tried to make a plan to get everyone outta there,they died yada yada

    A lot of comments have already left the CHECKs for the monsters, so I just want to point out this cute little detail: Chara really likes Undyne!
    Her fight is the one, single fight in Genocide where their narration *never* disrespects the enemy - instead, they say, “The heroine appears,” call her “Undyne the Undying”, and reacts with “….” as she melts. In the Neutral routes, the narration also becomes “…..” if you try to kill her (which otherwise only happens in fights with the Dreemurrs, Chara’s own family. They have a special kind of narration for their family where all food items stop having jokey names, Buttspie turns into Bscoth Pie, etc.) The narration for all routes except for Genocide also cheers her on with “she smashes a boulder!” - they’re just very enthusiastic about it. It’s extremely cute.
    Undyne is actually very similar to Chara. They’re both deeply invested in the future of monsterkind and (at least at first) they both hate humanity. When hanging out at Undyne’s hosue, Undyne’s flower tea gets the label “blatantly correct choice” from Chara, so they both like tea. Undyne is close to Asgore, and Chara is implied to be closer to Asgore than they are with Toriel (Mr. Dad Guy sweater possibly knitted by them, seemed to love gardening to the point where they have a gardening knife despite being kept away from all other sharp objects.)
    If they were alive, I have the feeling that they would be good friends.

      Okay, you know what, I’m not done ranting about the Narrator Chara theory because in my opinion it is undeniable and adds so, so much more to the game. They’re basically a secret character - a friend that’s always been with us, giving advice and telling jokes and having so much characterization-and to be honest, they’re my favorite character in the entire game. (No wonder I like Kris so much!)
      I’m just going to say a bunch of disorganized things about it. All good if you don’t want to read all of this, I might be spoiling their character if you’re planning on watching theory videos. But here goes:

    • @whiskeredwolf4861
      @whiskeredwolf4861 7 месяцев назад

      The Narrator Chara theory is the widely accepted idea that Chara, the first fallen child, is the game’s narrator for *all* the routes. This used to be a niche theory, but an enormous Tumblr post from user Determinators compiled a mountain of evidence, so much of it, to the point where the theory spread wildly into the fandom. Unfortunately, their blog is deleted now, so if you’d like the whole post, you’d have to get digging. BUT it is an extremely well-put post, so if anyone has it, I highly recommend reading it.
      First point: The character we control, Frisk, falls on a patch of golden flowers - directly above where Chara was buried. It’s here that their red soul attached to Frisk’s red soul. Instead of “Frisk”, the menu is labelled as “Chara” (or whatever you used as their name). It is *their* stats we add to, their LV that we corrupt if we kill, and their spirit that watches as we go through the Underground. Chara directly comments on this at the end of the route you watched (“Your power awakened me from death”). So, Chara woke up at this point - when Frisk landed on top of their grave, attaching them with a power (which may or may not be the Player/determination/something else, depending on what you believe!).
      Notably, they *did not* witness Frisk’s fall. The dialogue for checking the patch of flowers is “They must have broken your fall,” as if the narrator isn’t entirely sure, but suggesting a theory to Frisk. Furthermore, their name (and any narration) doesn’t show up until after you meet Flowey - suggesting that Flowey’s voice is what made them wake up.

    • @whiskeredwolf4861
      @whiskeredwolf4861 7 месяцев назад

      Obviously, the text in Genocide is from Chara, with things like “it’s me, Chara,” and saying that the Locket is back where it belongs. Plenty of people will say that Chara is *only* present in the Genocide route because of the high LV, but that makes no sense, really. Why would Chara only awaken in Genocide? Why not in the worse Neutral paths, where you can kill lots of people and get your LV up? Why assume that they aren’t there, just because they don’t directly say it? Lots of their narration in Genocide’s New Home is in *white* text-just like everywhere else in the game.
      Instead, it’s likely that red text is heavy emotional reactions. They react with red to chocolate (which they love…. and Toriel keeps a bar of it out of memory of them), a sweater that they very likely made for Asgore, all these memories of a home that they are throwing away in the Genocide route. Please note that a soulless person like Flower and likely Chara still feels emotions, they just don’t feel love. It’s fanon that they feel literally nothing. They can still feel joy, grief, fondness…. and humor (more on that later). It took Flower a very long time to feel boredom, after all.

      It is through this theory and their wonderful narration that we can learn so much more about Chara. How they were, how they lived, and what they became during the course of the game. CHARActer development, if you will :)
      So who were they before they died? Well… you already caught a lot of it. They were an unwell child who went to Ebott for an “unhappy reason”, who hated humanity. They wanted to both hurt the people in the village (imo very likely to be the village they came from….) and to free the monsters. They killed themself with buttercup poisoning (I am so, so impressed that you caught that, by the way. No other first playthrough has ever done that).
      We also know from Asgore that the Frisk reminds him of Chara because of “a look of hope in their eyes”. Another easily missed detail is that monsters once lived in the Ruins because they were afraid of humans, as said in the history books. Chara was found while the royal family still lived in Home…. and they were the kind of person *that inspired monsters to no longer fear humanity* because another history book says that they only made the new city afterwards. “Fearing the humans no longer”…. they made New Home, where Chara and Asriel then lived peacefully. That’s why they had two small chairs in New Home and only one small chair in Home. “The Underground was filled with hope”.
      There are pieces of their presence everywhere. They were deeply loved. This is so, so important. And, through the Narrator Chara theory, we can see that they remembered plenty about the monsters.
      Why is it that narrator knows all those CHECK dialogues? Why does the narration suggest actions to spare monsters - with knowledge that Frisk cannot possibly know? Why do you see the memories of the first fallen human? Why does narration say “knows what’s best for you” when you fight Toriel? Why do the jokes you can tell Woshua *directly reference* Asriel and Chara? “You told a joke about two kids who played in a muddy flower garden”, “a joke about a kid who ate pie with their bare hands”, and finally, “a joke about a kid who slept in the soil”… you know, like a grave.
      Well, because they’re there, of course. Sharing memories and giving advice. And that’s their story and their family.
      In every route, the *narration will change* depending on what you do-in other words, what Chara sees you do. If you kill even *one* monster, one single monster, the dog food bag in Alphys’ lab will say “it is half empty”. In Genocide, it’s “It’s half empty…. you just remembered something funny.” (about the dogs you killed). In Pacifist, it becomes “it is half full”. They’re optimistic, because you/Frisk are *proving them wrong* - it doesn’t have to be kill or be killed. A human can choose mercy. The humans outside might be merciful, and monsters may live in peace with them after all. And, even more than that, Asriel, their best friend, may not have been betraying them when he refused to kill the humans.
      They died believing that Asriel betrayed them. They were the one who taught Asriel that it was kill or be killed because they *genuinely believed it* - something on the surface world taught them this. *Killing even a single monster* proves that there are situations where it IS kill or be killed, making them pessimistic, and killing no one teaches them that Asriel’s philosophy (there are never situations where it’s ok to kill) was right. It gives them peace.
      Whereas killing enough monsters changes them. Because they are soulless, they are extremely impressionable, and they look to YOUR actions for guidance. They want to believe that Asriel was right - they will never try to seize control until Genocide. But with killing, you will teach them that the purpose of their life is power, and they act accordingly.
      Buttercup poisoning is a slow, painful way to die. Look up the symptoms: spasms, blisters on hands, mouth, and intestinal tract, paralysis, diarrhea - it is an awful, awful way to die. And yet Chara did this to themself. They did this to themself after they poisoned Asgore - in what reads very much like a prank gone wrong. But Chara *believes in facing the consequences of your actions* - a very, very big part of their character that we also see in Genocide, where they will “kill” the Player if the Player thinks they are above consequences. They could have taken a boss monster’s soul easily, but they loved the monsters. And they hated humans.
      The Narrator Chara theory is so wonderful because it is the Pacifist route that gives them peace. They finally see the monsters going free, which was their true dying wish. They get to be friends with another human to show them that not all humans are bad - and by extension, they aren’t inherently evil or wrong just because they’re human. It is Chara’s memories that save Asriel. And they are a very important part of the story.
      I truly and fully believe that Chara was not a bad person, and that Narrator Chara is a very important part of the game. So much of Undertale changes with the understanding that the instigator of most of its events is right there with you, trying to learn why they’re alive again and seeing how much everyone loved them.

      Other little character details:
      - The patch of golden flowers that Frisk fell on at the start of the game - it’s possible that they were from seeds that were stuck on Chara’s body, sprouting after they were buried.
      - The narrator can learn things! At first they won’t know what the plants in Toriel’s vases are, but after checking a book, they’ll then always call them water sausages.
      - Chara sings a lullaby to Frisk when checking the Dummy at the ruins.
      - Their sense of humor includes puns: the Butterscotch Pie is shortened to Buttspie, Spiderdonut becomes Spiderdon’t. They stop doing this in Dreemurr fights.
      - They react to stress with laughter - just like their mother, who laughs when she’s dying.
      - They say “Greetings!” just like Toriel; Asriel says “Howdy!” just like Asgore.
      - A really underrated detail is that when encountering the Snowy Amalgamate, the narrator becomes very disoriented. They say “It’s so cold” over and over. ACTing has them suggest that Frisk is laughing (“You laugh and keep laughing…. until *tears* run down your face”) or saying terrible things. They aren’t even listening to Frisk because they’ll say, “You say *something like*, ‘You look horrible. Why are you even alive?’”, as if they can’t understand what’s happening, despite Frisk obviously not saying that. If you try to laugh twice, they directly say “But it’s not funny.” It’s laughter borne of stress.
      - The Snowy Amalgamate is right after the room with the tapes recording Chara and Asriel’s conversations about buttercups, suggesting that Chara is very upset.
      - During the fight with Asriel, the narration suggests SAVEing your friends with no prompting. This is Chara’s idea alone! They’re not even sure if it would work, because they say “They’re in there somewhere, aren’t they?” And it does work. You save your friends with memories, and you/Frisk don’t have memories to share with Asriel…. but Chara does.
      - If you go into the SAVE menu and then back out of it, the narrator actually goes “!?!?” as if they’re surprised you would ever do something else lmao (I just wanted to see the other options, Chara! I swear!)
      - Why does Asriel’s fight have rainbow words? Why does the narrator say what attacks he’s going to do next? Well…. it’s almost like the narrator is excited, and they recognize the ABSOLUTE GOD OF HYPERDEATH and his attacks, because they’ve played this pretend game with him before. As we see in Deltarune, Asriel already has the GOD OF HYPERDEATH as his super cool OC - it’s mentioned when Kris checks the computer.
      - The words in the narrator box also have a chance to shake in this fight, which seems to be the only time it ever happens. As if the narrator feels emotional!
      - Chara is mentioned in the Undertale Alarm Clock dialogue; I won’t spoil it, but it’s very sweet.
      - I…. have actually found the massive Narrator Chara compilation post: https__://web.__archive.org/web/20210221062543/https__://determinators.__tumblr.com/post/159674581147/greetings-uh-so-ive-been-working-on-this (just remove the underscores). It’s even bigger and more comprehensive than I remember. I’m wondering if it’s possible to know your reaction to this? It is honestly extremely interesting if you’re interested in Narrator Chara, because it explains its points far more than I can. Even has images.

    That's the thing, you can't "stumble into a genocide run". A genocide run can only be done when the player WANTS to do it. That's what sans' spiel is about, you're not doing it out of good or bad, just because you can, and if you can, you have to. As you can see, you need to actively look for enemies to kill, even if you kill everyone in your way while going through the story, you should just end up with a lot of LV, but not in a genocide route. And the moment your genocide run begins, you're given a LOT of chances to end it, not to mention very clear signs of "something is very wrong".

    i'm glad to see you very emotional during this run. this route is supposed to make you feel like you're completely monstrous just because you are doing the bad thing just to know what happens when you do and it makes you KNOW thats why you're doing it.

    Sans cant code or hack anything. And he cant see through resets. hes just really smart. If he kills you he will even say that he killed you 2 or 6 times. He knows it because of your look. Hes just really smart.

      Sans manipulating the battle screen threw me off, I was thinking, "This guy is studying anomalies and timelines, he's got a secret lab in his backyard... Gaster definitely told him how to get into the backrooms."
      But Sans just being super smart is less silly, lol.

      It should be noted that sans' knowledge of timelines and anomalies probably came from Alphys. She canonically knows that other universes exist, and was the one who experimented with Determination. It's safe to assume that she knows of other timelines and possibly resets as well.@@hellofizzi

    There's a part of the Photoshop Flowey fight from the Neutral Route where Flowey says somthing to the effect of, "Go ahead, cry into the darkness! 'Mommy, Daddy, Somebody help!' See what good it does you!"
    The part here where Flowey talks about first waking up as a flower, that's exactly what he did. And, as he stated, "But nobody came."
    Also, in the Soulless Pacifist photo ending, for only the first frame, the picture is of Frisk. Chara's face replaces theirs from the second frame on.
