It's likely a snap induction. People looking through the hole already are in a heightened state, and so more open to suggestion. Seeing someone on the other side is surprising/shocking, and that that moment Derren probably just suggested that he sleep.
They had a similar experiment with the adults (but it was with something that they could take and it won't be evident, like one candy or something, can't remember now), but they divided it into two parts. In the second part a poster of an eye was placed on the wall in front of them and some adults didn't take anything (later said that they felt as if someone was watching them all the time).
I'm sure, he was asking 'how exactly' Derren did this, at least, how he could achieve it at this speed. But someone already mentioned here why it was actually possible to make it that quick.
Our mind can't understand modifiers such as "can't", "not", "stop", etc. If you tell someone don't imagine a black cat, your mind will automatically hear the key words IMAGINE and think of a black cat. That's why if someone points a gun at you, you SHOULD tell them to breathe / relax / remain calm.......not "don't shoot" (their brain will only hear shoot).
Kind of reminds me of Jimmy Johnson's psychology in football. He wouldn't tell his players "Don't drop the ball." He'd say "Hold onto the ball." Because the first puts a negative thought in their mind. The other puts a positive thought.
i strongly disagree with you on that matter . angels & demons and heaven and hell and the forbidden fruit and the first sin to me represent psychological perspectives of the human mind .. and negative suggestion is obviously applied in the (cursed tree mythology )
So if I were to make an affirmation I would put it in the affirmative and not the negative. One wouldn't want to make an affirmation I will "not" smoke.
It would be interesting to find out the motivations of the people who looked through the hole. Were they defying authority? Just curious? Afraid there was a hidden danger on the other side that they needed to know about? It's interesting that people do not walk on a pedestrian traffic signal that says "Don't Walk."

At 0:16 It is written in the subtitle: "do it juliana" but actually he says "children". Freaky cos my name is - big surprise - Juliana. Is there anybody out there would mind test it for hisself aswell and tell me if it shows same creepy subtitle? I appreciating it!

He probably pulled a visual trigger : the guy had been previously hypnotized and suggested that whenever he sees this sign or this word or whenever he sees Derren, he falls sound asleep for a minute. Then he coud have been suggested to come to this place and look through this hole. Or he could have selected because it was his everyday way and his suggestibility lead him to look through the hole. Installing such a fast trigger on a very responsive person is an easy trick of hypnosis.
