Those AMC 199-6 cylinders were bad for plugging that oil galley up that goes up to the head, and then end up warping the head. I had several that did that exact thing but we just got another head, a good one and changed the head on it. We never messed with any lifters or anything like that. Sorry Roy.
I have been reading through all the comments that people have left for you. Great comments, indeed. But I would like to add one more of my own. I think you are a man that has "guts." Now, being a female, I only know this from feminine observation.....but most guys have that proverbial "chip" on their shoulders that prohibits them from admitting that they need "help." Your video upload took a lot of courage, I believe, from a "guy's perspective." I know that I am basing my thoughts and comments on stereotypes---but SOMETIMES (not always, of course) stereotypes CAN BE TRUE. I don't think too many men (who like to be their own problem solvers) would make a video like this asking for help and suggestions. I truly admire you for this, and it shows that you are a "better man" when you can ask for help. I trust that you find the help that you are seeking, and that you are able to solve this conundrum. I know that soon you will be posting a video that reveals the help that you received, and that the problematic issue at hand will have been resolved. Blessings to you! Ruthie B. Missing plug from the oil gallery off the mains, guess it would be tough to show any psi then if that was the case though. Reading down see some are suggesting an incorrectly installed cam bearing... if so maybe you could drill from the deck down to make a new passage ? So long as another hole will not cause too much pressure loss.
You don't "need" oil. lol, Sorry I have never had one of those apart, But my Dad did rebuild a 6 banger Pacer motor a number of years ago....Have you tried blowing air pressure down that oil feed??
Hard to say , could a cam bearing be installed incorrectly not allowing oil up to the head if the lifters are correct? Good luck Found this link. amccf.com/tech.html
My thoughts exactly on the problem Lloyd. After looking at it and following oil galleries, I discovered that it uses a cam journal to feed oil through that passage. so my guess is someone installed cam bearings with the hole in the wrong location or in the wrong journal. I have no way to verify that without pulling the engine completely apart. Which is not in the budget for the Great Beater Challenge, so maybe when that is finished the engine might get some love.
Thank you, from what I understand, the bell housing on the transmission won't fit a 258 or the 4.0, I'll let you know if I can't get this to work out. Once again thank you for the offer. Also, might be a good collaboration if it needs to happen.
Awesome sir!!!! I'm sure you'll get it figured out!!
Thanks to everyone I hope the solution works
I wish that I could help you Roy but I don't know anything about them brother!

That's okay, it's a tough one, and support works well too.
Only way to go Ms. Ruthie.
Sorry to hear you had issues this early on in the process, but I am also getting caught up on vids too. Hoping you got it figured out
Yes, thanks to everyone I did.
Never been around any of these to know anything about them
The community came together and helped a lot. I am grateful to everyone. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for this suggestion Doug, and the other one which I used as part of the solution.
@@RoyMarkosGarageRMG - yes sir you’re mighty welcomed buddy!
Way above my pay grade. You'll figure out though!
I did, and many thanks to all. I've uploaded an update.
Some comments already Roy, hopefully more guys will chime in with suggestions or a contact for someone in the know.
Thanks Nick, there's a couple good suggestions and feel like I came up with a solution.

Spun cam bearing? My guess.
It could be, but I leaning towards a cam bearing installed incorrectly.

Thanks Ron, someone suggested that the gallery plug might be in too far. I hope I can save it.

Yes, not the oil gallery but but the next update shows a solution, and my guess based on that was the cam bearing. Once again thanks for your help.

Yes, I did try the air pressure down the oil feed.
Have I been in a cave? What’s the great beater challenge??
You have a $700 budget to build a car, that while road worthy is highly unreliable, and basically a two day poker run with car at the end of august.
@@RoyMarkosGarageRMG that would be a blast.

Do those engines have an oil pressure relieve valve?
They do, but that doesn't appear to be a problem
Find a rotten Jeep with a 258 toss that in? I have a 4.0 if ya need?
