You seriously never fail to impress me, you keep your videos consistent but you always improve your editing ever so slightly on each video, keep up the great work, you inspire me mate!
You are without doubt a very competent pilot. My flying days are over but I’ve watched your skills grow through your videos & you bring my training days back to life. I love the technology in todays aircraft & wish I had the chance to use it in my day. I hope the situation with pilots/airlines due to this virus don’t impact you too much because you have a very promising future. Good luck Ben & thanks for the videos. Mike.
Fantastic video as always Ben, great the see what it is like during your MEIR training! So interesting to watch, it’s really good how much depth you go in to with ATC and various different things!
Another fantastic video Ben, it's awesome to see you keeping current for the MEIR, and gives me more information what I will be doing when it comes to my MEIR. Keep up the great work.
Wow! I love to see how professional you are Ben! It’s so nice to see how much effort you’ve put into your flying career! I really hope the rest of it goes well for you! Safe Flying
Great stuff Ben, this is useful for me to watch as are the other videos are on your channel as I progress through my PPL training and hopefully commence my flight school training in the future. Keep it up!
Excellent video! I see this as a great learning resource, being able to see the mistakes and learn from them! I look forward to the next two and more GA following the good news!
Thanks for the comment. We’re taught to ask the instructor / examiner every 1,000ft as you’re supposed to be flying on instruments and not allowed to look out. In reality you’d do things differently but this is a training environment.
Thanks! In the next video we fly an NDB approach and ILS approach with a couple of holds thrown in. It’s quite interesting because the wind wasn’t exactly in our favour on the day!
Great stuff Ben. Minor debrief point; you mentioned the mda in your first approach briefing, it’s always worth verbalising the minimum rvr too. One day it will be more than you actually have...
Just completed all my PPL exams and now hoping to have a check ride soon. Would be amazing if you could post some more technical videos, your videos are always great to watch.
Nice video dude. Thanks for sharing. I have a question. Is there a setting in Garmin 1000 to adjust which way the bank indicator goes. Most videos I have seen it deviates opposite side you’re banking, which is biggest sham engineers gave us. One of the biggest human-error-prone mistake that’s too big too get rid of. But yours looks like working properly. Is there a setting for that in garmin1000. Thanks again for the video.
Great to see you posting, how's the job hunting going ? What about freight flying ? there seems to be loads more freight in the sky looking at FR24 unless its just there's less passenger flights so you notice the freight more.
Doing my MEIR in DA42 at the moment, a few things from this video will drive my instructor nuts, that flashing advisory, flashing cursor in MDF flight plan page, forgetting change atl setting on the AP a few times. Keep up with the good work :)
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the feedback. It’s very easy to notice points like that when sat watching a video isn’t it - which is why I filmed these to debrief them in the first place. If those are the only things you picked up on in the video then I don’t think I did a bad job, albeit they’re very picky. Having flown for an airline and now watched and debriefed this back the real points for me were the ‘big picture’ bits in regards to how air traffic kept us high and we had to work hard to descend for the approach. There’s always going to be small mistakes on every flight which is why I find being able to debrief them hugely valuable and I’m able to learn from points and keep improving. Good luck finishing off your training.
Thanks for this video. Most of the flying videos I see are from the US so it's good to see a UK based one for a change. Can you please do a video explaining what it takes to fly these small engine as a hobby, costs, exams and suggestions on first step? Thanks
So cool to see Cov airside, did my ground school on the airport’s premise but never even got to go near an operational plane. What are you up to these days Ben? Tragic to what happened to FlyBe. You guys all deserved better and it’s doubly gutting as it was your first job
Ben, great coverage of the types of skills you need to become a budding pilot. Perhaps you might want to recap on why you wanted to become an airline pilot, you current status and the journey it took you, including flight-school, costs, hours etc. Also can you do some explaining on VFR, IFR, ILS, NDB, VOR. DME and ADF, beacons and the like and explain to your audience the role of good planning, alternates, WX (Weather charts) and the like? Maybe some coverage comparing and contrasting the old-style methods of navigation, with the new augmented AGPS.? I see the Cirrus you have been flying has the newer form of navigation and that you can register your flight plan via the iPad (?) and then upload and activate that whilst in the aircraft.? Also, I think I saw the flight plan then being transferred to the aircraft via presumably either Bluetooth or WiFi. Will you you be able to demonstrate a auto-landing using the new Garmin system and explain the role of the flightpath bars in the middle of the screen and how you fly using those augmented lanes . Once our twice I've been on EasyJet flights into Belfast on business when the captain announced they planned to use auto-landing. I assume this is best practice, that they tell the passengers the plane is doing the landing. Again, a big thankyou for al the good work you are doing in sharing your flying knowledge. One last question: does any of the home-based flying count in hours towards currency/simulator work? Is this something the CAA are looking to accept; given that all the data can be shared with a CFI.
Plane Old Ben BTW do you ever look out much of the cockpit? I see a lot of work going on in the cockpit what with the flight load. I bet as these cockpits gets more efficient you can look out more and enjoy the views. I used to fly light aircraft and ultralights. The ultralights needed less work to fly them but more visual lookout or talking to ATIS
Haha! Interestingly in the Dash we turned to anti-ice on as a precaution when SAT < +5 so whenever it’s below 5* I’m cautious as buildup can start. On the ME-IR training you’re taught to ask about ice every 1000ft.
Nice video Ben. Am I going mad or did you only have two green gear lights (nose and right) on the takeoff roll? Keep up the good work and good luck on the job front.
Great footage, Ben and of great interest to me as a flight simmer. Quite sad to hear Flybe’s “Jersey” call sign on the VHF. I hope your highly competent skillset is soon taken on by an airline, be that freight, charter or scheduled work. With all best wishes from the Wirral. 👍🏻🤞🏻
@@PlaneOldBen thx btw im dping my ppl rn and gping for my two year training in a couple of month, any tips for Atpl exams,i haven't done any physics and much maths but like i understand commom sense of it
What’s V1 on the DA42 haha. You’re a super pilot Ben and will have no trouble finding an alternative to Flybe. On a different note I never understand why most pilots programme the avionics/listen to ATIS AFTER starting engines-waste of money, fuel not to mention bad for environment. Otherwise very nice video and fab avionics. PhD Commercial SMEL/IFR and Citation 5xx type rated.
There’s no ground power available to use to programme the avionics, you also can’t start the engines with the avionics on so I’m not sure what data you’d lose after programming them. The DA42 burns a small amount of Jet A1 and it only took me two minutes to program the route. Hope you’re enjoying your flying 🤙🏼
Plane Old Ben good point about the sipping rate of the Da42. As to what info is saved whilst I have no experience with the G1000, I can say that the Garmin 430 through the Garmin 750 and the xponders have allowed me over 23 years of flying (C172/Bonanza/Barons/Arrows/Seminole and a Saratoga) to save the flight plan with units defaulting to the preset frequencies and squawk code. My feeling/cynicism is completing the aforementioned tasks AFTER engine start is a holdover from training days where it is in the financial interest of the CFI to run up the Hobbs time towards separating student from his/her money.
Great Video Ben! I’m looking forward to the next episode! How do you compare flying this type or aircraft (ME) to say the SR22 like you have done quite a few videos of? Do you prefer Multi Engine flying?
Impressively professional, how you never skip or even rush a checklist, approach briefing and so on. Thank you for sharing.
You seriously never fail to impress me, you keep your videos consistent but you always improve your editing ever so slightly on each video, keep up the great work, you inspire me mate!

Thanks Michael. The modern systems really do help especially when operating single pilot, and they do make it a real pleasure to fly!
Looks like my flying days are over too, really enjoyed flying the DA42 during training, all the best

Thank you so much for sharing your training, everything looks so professional and it gives me a good idea of what I can expect on my MEIR!
Thanks a lot, Sam! Good luck with your ME-IR you'll really enjoy the course.
That close up camera to see the G1000 operation is fantastic! Very interesting watch, look forward to the next ones in the series.
Thanks a lot, that’s the main camera I used to watch to review the flights back I think it worked great too.
Thank you Ben for sharing these high quality well produced videos! they really help for the IR :)

Hello!
During the descent, I see that you have a rate higher than 500 / min? It's normal? Is the DA42 presurable? thank you!
the DA40 is not pressurized.... yes, 500'/min is a comfortable descent rate, but you can go a lot faster... if you ears can handle it.
I'd love to know what your setup is for recording radio communications
I made a video on that have a look!
