Give this man a medal for helping everyone that’s had this tool in their boxes and let it collect dust because they had no idea how to properly use it. I was taught many years ago how to use it properly and forgot to over the years. This video will help tons of people when doing e brake shoes with this tool! 10/5 stars for you good sir!
No 5 minute self serving egotistical channel intro with wild music, no endless blabbing taking half the video talking about what you'll talk about, no selling t-shirts with your name in 1,000 pt font, no constant cgi of flying hands, bells, buttons and rings on screen of subscribe and notification and no "lets get right into this.....but first" blurb over and over. Absolute perfect to the point, all others take note, this is how you get a subscribers. Thanks brother..
I've always struggled using screwdrivers and pliers in the past, but then I bought a brake plier/tool set and wanted to give them a try. However, the set didn't come with any instructions. Thank you for taking the time to show us how to use these tools! Much appreciated!
Excellent video. The best part is your introduction. So tired of having to wade through all the personal stuff and blasting "music". I got to get me some of those tools. Tired of being smacked with shrapnel from my brakes. Saves on screwdrivers too! Thanks.
SUBSCRIBED. No self-aggrandization, no music; just direct, concise information. This is a productive video that doesn't waste one's time or test one's patience. Thank you. This was helpful.
I specifically dislike watching videos for how to information because the 2 minutes of information needed is woven into a 15 minute video. Here we have the video distilled into the essence of how to use brake spring pliers. Thank you for the brevity.
Thank you so much...I always see everyone fusing and struggling with that bottom spring and you showed (perfectly) how easy it is to take off and put on.
Dude…I struggled with that flipping bottom spring for like an hour today…and I had no idea how to use the pliers that I bought! Any idea what kind of vehicle you were working on in this vid? Looks very similar to my F150.
I'm glad that you had a straight to the point video. the reason these other guys have such long videos is because they need to make money. As long as you watch 30 seconds of the video the total time counts towards their monthly minutes watched. You're a great guy. hats off to you!
Thanks for the video, I have been a professional mechanic for 33 years and that was the first time I have seen the hook used on the pliers. I have developed my own way to do the job and until recently didn't even own a set like that, but I now know how to use both ends of the tool.
I love the intro lol. Talking the first 19 mins bout how great you are 🤣🤣🤣 your right though I hate people that waste our time talking about how easy things are then you go to do it how they say and it just doesn't work
I absolutely love short and to the point videos. I would rather watch an advertisement than listen to a 5 min intro and story why you have to change your brakes.....
I made my way here from a pop-out-video version of this JUST so I could thumbs-up this video and subscribe to check out the rest of your stuff. I've owned one of these for years and done the 'top half (sorta) with the tool and fighting with the bottom half using pliers and screwdrivers' thing all this time. I need to go do this like RIGHT now...let's see if I can do this correctly this time around! I'd always felt sure I wasn't using it quite right...now I know I wasn't, but now I also know HOW, maybe! Also...in my Honda Civic, I also use the 'spin a spring on/off' end to press in on and rotate the hold-down clips while just using one finger to keep the back-side part of the clip's pin from rotating with it. Boop! That part has always been like 5 seconds to get on or off unless I drop a clip first...then it's like 10 seconds, maybe 20 if I got it dirty and wash it off first. So...from Sept 2022; thank you for this simple, USEFUL video! Oh no...this is not only his most amazing video...it's the ONLY video! Drat...I was hoping to have a dozen "Tools I never realized I was misusing all this time" lessons or something. : D Still...yay for this wickedly-useful one-and-only video!
Why don't you take another 4 years off from doing videos showing people how to do what any 6 year old child could do very easily?, bet you buy all your tools from Harbor Tool too.
Oh boy, do I feel like a knuckle head. I wasn’t using that tool properly at all. Thanks for for the video and thanks for saving me a good half hour of sweat!
Thank you for the video. I went from a 30 min struggle with the springs, to a 1 second install. I never thought about using the brake shoe as leverage to pull the bottom spring.
I came here because I saw the video was only 2 minutes long, which is about how long it should take someone to demonstrate drum brake pliers without showboating or filler. Thank you.
I knew there was no BS as soon as I saw how long the video was. Intro was spot on, I was beginning to think the hook and point had no purpose. I am thankful for you this Thanksgiving Day! lol
Very helpful video! This tool can save your hands as well as save you A LOT of time. Trying to move these springs with regular pliers...NOT A GOOD IDEA PEOPLE. You will strain yourself and possibly hurt yourself. It's not fun...trust me. Great video!!
Yeah, I've had the springs take off and either slice a small sliver off of me as they took off, or...well, sometimes even 'and'...they rocket off into the distance when doing this in a garage or parking lot and I hear a "TOOMP!" as it hits somewhere else in the lot. Oy...I've never FOUND the dent from one, though I have looked, but I suspect I just didn't see what had actually happened so I always felt guilty. Maybe this time I can simply feel effective at last!
Is there a tool that takes the pins out and puts them back in on both sides, you press and twist the cap for that nail look pin, a tool would be helpful compared to needle nose pliers
I've been reminded of a valuable lesson thanks to you. There is something infinitely more important than having the right tool - you must know how to use it to the fullest extent. I fought with the self-tensioning spring for more time than I want to admit. After a fortunate search I found this demonstration. I was then able to execute in the same fashion as you did. I am beyond grateful. Have a good day.
This was amazing! I wish I had learned this years ago. I've been using these brake pliers all wrong, making my life so much more difficult. Thank you!!!!
I always knew I was using them at least POORLY if not wrongly...it was mostly 'wrongly' but some 'poorly' too. Now to go put this to use! I have a new spring set, still got my tool, decided to try to search up instructions BEFORE I wrestled with my springs...and now to see what happens! Even if *I* fail, his video has made it so I'll simply work out how to use the brake-pliers properly in the future, but I really think they'll work quite nicely now that I know! ...which means maybe I can't find my tool when I go to look for it, but I can only solve so many problems at the same time. :) Now to go test my new lessons if I can!
Randy, thank you for your simplicity and very useful knowledge. I now know the proper way to use this tool. Your intro should be nominated for an Oscar! Just liked, shared and subscribed. Thanks again!
Great easy to understand video. I have my C10 jacked up and couldn't figure how to get the little hook under the top spring and you video shows I was using the wrong end.. Thank you!
huh...so I *HAVE* been doing it right all these years...just feels weird! The part that gets me though is the springs and pins holding the shoes onto the backing plate. You need 3 hands to do that!
Can get by without this type tool ---------But that being said ---------I sure enjoyed watching just how in the name of God these damn things are supposed to be used. They are tricky if one is not familiar. You done them proud. Thank you sir. Stay well !
The introduction of this video is the greatest I've ever seen on RUclips. Thank you.
Agreed!👍
Awesome!!!! , no bull shit!!! Great video.
💯
Honesty wins
And his sentiment was dead on accurate. My biggest complaint! I liked shorts but now they only do speed talking and screen changing per half second.

i have 2 of these pliers and NEVER known how to use them.

BRAVO! I'm so sick of seeing everyone's 2 minute intros
Dude! I've had this tool in my toolbox for years and you have taught me the full capabilities of using it and I thank you. Best of luck!
I've been baffled by mine for forty years, and now I know!! LOL
You are the hero we need. Thank you this was extremely informative
Thank you
I've always struggled using screwdrivers and pliers in the past, but then I bought a brake plier/tool set and wanted to give them a try. However, the set didn't come with any instructions. Thank you for taking the time to show us how to use these tools! Much appreciated!
You're a gentleman and a scholar. Passing on the old ways like a wise sage. Please post more no nonsense mechanic videos.
Excellent video. The best part is your introduction. So tired of having to wade through all the personal stuff and blasting "music". I got to get me some of those tools. Tired of being smacked with shrapnel from my brakes. Saves on screwdrivers too! Thanks.
And wounds that get oil and solvent in them
I was today years old when I learned to use a brake tool properly!
Then why are you here smart ass
Best tutorial on the whole Internet on how to use these properly. As soon as I read your intro I knew this was the vid for me. 👌👍
SUBSCRIBED. No self-aggrandization, no music; just direct, concise information. This is a productive video that doesn't waste one's time or test one's patience. Thank you. This was helpful.
Love the intro. I wish more folks got this. Don’t wanna hear any bullshittin or war stories. Just straight to the point.
Lol absolutely agree dont care how old your dog is just to the point 👍
And I definitely don't want to hear their (usually) shitty taste in music.
I specifically dislike watching videos for how to information because the 2 minutes of information needed is woven into a 15 minute video. Here we have the video distilled into the essence of how to use brake spring pliers. Thank you for the brevity.
Where was this when I was busy busting my knuckles and ripping the boot on my wheel cylinder?
My hands hurt. I took a break and started looking for tricks. Off to Harbor Freight to get this tool!
Welp. Got back home. Doesn't work on Honda Fit 2015 rear drum brakes.
@@JonathanThompson1320 YES it does, I've just done it
@@Theknotman1964 I tried! Can you describe a little how you used it?
They have been around for 75 years.
i appreciate this video, a lot of youtubers nowadays give us their biography before showing a tool.
Thank you so much...I always see everyone fusing and struggling with that bottom spring and you showed (perfectly) how easy it is to take off and put on.
Video GOLD, right here. Just discovered my late Dad's vintage Herbrand #183 brake pliers. Straight-talk video and I'm good to go.
thank you! right to the point.
3223ww
Thank you so much. I wish every "how-to" was exactly like this.
This is how it works. Perfect. Thank you!
Yes! I absolutely love the disclaimer! That’s what I’m talking about! Trim the fat and get right down to the solution- Bravo Sir!

Thanks for the direct approach. I learned something new today.
you saved me time and you didn't waste my time double thumbs up 👍👍
Awesome "No BS" video. Thanks! Very informative.
Good job mate, right to the point
Thanks so much. Got a pair of these from my dad's estate 20 years ago and never knew what to do with them!
Wow
Thanks man
Best video after searching RUclips 👍

Thank you for the quick video really helped.
It's been 4 yrs since you made one of the most informative videos on RUclips University. Please make more so I can join your class🙏🏼🙏🏼👏🏽👏🏽
Oh my goodness I’ve been using thin long nosed mole grips for years and struggled! What a tool and explination video! Thank you!!

I think I just increased my brake tool skills 100% thanks
Quite possibly the best how to video. No nonsense .I don't have time for it. Great job !

thank you for this video 🙏
how do you make the spring pop off so easy, mine either slips or the hook won’t catch onto the spring
At last, great video, well demonstrated now purchasing one 👍👍👍👍👍
There are many videos out on youtube but yours answered my quandary on the tools usage---to the exact. Thank you!
Wow, that's how to make a how to vid, God bless you.

Randy, thank you for your simplicity and very useful knowledge. I now know the proper way to use this tool. Your intro should be nominated for an Oscar! Just liked, shared and subscribed. Thanks again!
Best how to video I have ever seen. This dude needs to do more videos
You made this knuckle busting, swear word combination inventing, frustrating task look incredibly simple. Thank you.
This is the way how to video should be made. No bullshitting around taking 10 minutes to show you how to do a 30 second tutorial. 1,000 thumbs up!
Where is Your Merch Store!!!???! 😅😅😊
Thank you sir for sharing, straight to the point. Awesome!!!
Excellent - Thank you.

Great easy to understand video. I have my C10 jacked up and couldn't figure how to get the little hook under the top spring and you video shows I was using the wrong end.. Thank you!
Clear and to the point!
I've had these dang pliers for years, never knew exactly how to use them, maybe now I won't need my husband. lol!
huh...so I *HAVE* been doing it right all these years...just feels weird! The part that gets me though is the springs and pins holding the shoes onto the backing plate. You need 3 hands to do that!
The best video over for these pliers!
