  • Mexico is full of fun. From beaches to cities, if it’s a good time you’re looking for, a good time can most certainly be had in Mexico! While most people flock to the country’s incredible beaches, one of the best parties is actually located inside one of the biggest cities in the world: Mexico City. If you’ve never heard of Xochimilco before, well, let us introduce you to Mexico’s 365 day a year party! Mariachi, delicious food, and more can be had while floating along Mexico’s ancient waterways (which btw, are a UNESCO world heritage sight!). Be sure to let us know in the comments if this is something you’d do when visiting Mexico City! :)

    I spent 2 summers in 2004 and 2005 studying Spanish in Cuernavaca as a master student at SMU in Dallas. I got to do the party boat twice. It was. Loads of fun. Check out the Mexican Cathedral across from the Presidential palace. The cathedral is the first one built in Mexico and the pipe organ is still going strong. There is also the cathedral of Guadalupe. Don’t miss the pyramids.

    The way they decorate these boats with flowers and their vibrant colors. Yeah doll Island not on our list either. The food in Mexico is incredible. The flower bud /fruit of the napal cactus atuna is very good to eat in season. Also very healthy to slice up cook and eat the leaves. Minus the spines of course. 💯😁👍🤙🌞🚣‍♂️

    You had it spot on on your descriptions. And indeed it's not a tourist trap, people from Mexico City go there all the time. As already said the day is usually more family friendly, while at night more young people go to party and drink. The idea in general is that you get food and drinks elsewhere and then carry it in bags to your boat/trajinera, then you spend 2 to 4 hours eating, drinking, chatting, and sometimes even dancing in there. It's great with groups of 10+ people, also very cheap the price is of course split among everyone (but two people is totally fine too). By the way there is a "tourist" version in Cancún, it's all more organized and targeted towards foreigneirs, but Xochimilco in Mexico City is the real experience.

    Xochimilco is a unique and picturesque neighborhood in the southern part of Mexico City, celebrated for its vibrant canal system and floating gardens. These canals, remnants of the ancient Aztec agricultural system, are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular destination for both tourists and locals. Visitors can take colorful, flower-adorned trajineras (flat-bottomed boats) to meander through the canals, enjoying the lively atmosphere with mariachi bands, food vendors, and a festive ambiance. Xochimilco offers a glimpse into the city's pre-Hispanic past, and its ecological and cultural significance make it a charming and historic gem in Mexico's capital. Thanks, Chris and Sara!

    Glad to see how you enjoy this beautiful place in my city. Five years I studied in one of the towns around xochimilco's area. It's a wonderful, mysterious and magic place, still holds our history and culture aside the lake. Doll Island has it's own creepy history about a crazy man who lives (or lived? I'm not sure about if he already died) there and he used to saw ghost, spirits and paranormal things so he started to wrapping these old dolls for keeping the weird stuff outside his home, faraway from him. After that the place became a pretty scary popular place for locals and of course tourism in the lake took advantage of that due many people wanting to see it.
    Thank you for showing us the best of my home.

    If you are looking for an amazing experience fly over the ruins of Teotihuacan inside a hot air balloon. Unforgettable! Nearby you could ask your guides to take you to eat braced lamb (barbacoa de borrego) and cooked in an underground pit. Delish!
    Teotihuacan is almost 1.5 hours or less from Mexico City and is worth every penny - if you are interested in archeology.
    I personally never been to Xochimilco, but it looks like you guys enjoyed the experience.
    Ciao

    I had reached out to Todd from your food video and went down to Xochimilco on Monday (the 14) a bit earlier in the day and had the entire place to myself. At first I was the only person out there and then two more boats came, very mellow. It was a nice experience but I kind of wish I could have gotten some of that grilled corn. I also went down and saw Mr. Rami for ice cream and he was so happy you guys featured him and his place. He said he's had a lot of people come by because of you guys and Todd, he was really happy.

    So, we found y'all's channel 2 weeks ago and after watching your Chattanooga videos, we decided to go there last weekend! We are from Nashville and don't get to travel very often, but both of us would so do this! And we would do it the way y'all did! People watching on a private dinghy! Oh, and y'all's channel is in our weekly watch list!

    Glad to hear you enjoyed the organised chaos in there. As a native Mexico City girl I have had my good share of parties there but if you are not in the mood for that kind of experience, there is a more peaceful quiet experience you can get also in Xochimilco. So there are different piers in Xochimilco, and the quiet one is called Cuemanco. No boat traffic jams, just the channels, the farms islands, wildlife… there is a conservation center for an endemic amphibian called ajolote (only specie known in the world able to regrow their severed limbs/bodies). So if nature & wildlife is your thing, you can opt for Cuemanco pier (embarcadero) instead. On the downside, no food boats (or fewer ones) but you can buy food and drinks on the pier before getting to the boat.

    • @chrisandsara
      @chrisandsara  2 года назад +2

      Hi Laura! Thanks so much for watching! 😄 we would love to experience the other, quieter side of Xochimilco next time. We love the party, but it would be so fun to learn more about the history and agriculture. Thank you so much for the info on how to get there. Really appreciate it!!

    • @Nile55555
      @Nile55555 2 года назад +1

      From my point of view, Cuemanco is better. It is observed more what was Mexico centuries ago. Wider canals, agriculture and the view of the volcanoes.

    Last time we went to Xochimilco (my 4th time) they actually took us to a different route which was much, much less crowded and more natural. We bought plants, enjoyed the weather, no crashing boats all around. It was a very different experience than the usuall boat-packed party canal.
