    This system is such a ripoff! Seriously! My Manuel says I need to replace my valve and transmitters on my tires before I have a serious problem, at a cost of a couple of hundred dollars per tire. What serious problem could I have? A flat tire? I think I would know if I had a flat tire!

    Did you drive on that spare to get it to send a signal to the tpms unit? I wonder if it really had a sensor since it never rotates unless you are using it.

    • @halnwheels
      @halnwheels 7 лет назад +2

      Thanks for your reply. Just so everyone can benefit, an Outback I purchased recently had the light on and would not go out. It turned out that even though all four tires were read by holding a reader right next to the tire, the signal of one was not strong enough to reach the tpms unit under the seat and had to be replaced. The dealer I used in Feb of 2017 charges $120 for a "relearn" and $60 for the sensor. I decided to replace two tires that were marginal and the sensor was in one of them so I saved a little there. Since my wife drives the car when I am away on business, I like having the functionality of the tpms for her and not simply blocking the light. Subaru designed the system so that only they have the computer necessary to transfer the ID's from the sensor to the unit. An aftermarket tpms that I installed on a motorcycle had a programming procedure so that no special computers were needed. It involved entering a "learn" mode and rotating the specific tire when prompted. This way the tpms could display pressure AND temperature for each time and tell you which tire was low! Interestingly pressure was displayed corrected for temperature ( a simple formula) so you could fill the tire hot if needed.

    • @MrPhotographer77
      @MrPhotographer77 6 лет назад +2

      halnwheels The spare tire has a sensor just like all the others. Driving at 20mph or above tells the car's computer to check and reset the sensor, whether the actual tires are rotating or not.

    Well any auto shop or tire center should have a TPMS programmer/tester, after they put the proper amount of air in the tire you go to each tire and hold the tester near the stem and it will clear it or give you a error which means you have a faulty sensor! Actually you don’t need to put air in it first because the tester will tell you that also!

    There is a conceptual error in the TPMS. When you buy a battery over
    the counter, you can see the battery's end-of-life date. When you buy a
    TPMS sensor, the battery is embedded inside an epoxy-filled module, and
    the battery date is not visible. So when you buy one, you have no idea
    if it is fresh or NOS (New Old Stock). I bought Mercedes TPMS sensors,
    and the first one failed after 2 months, the second failed after 6
    months. After 5 trips to Mercedes of Pleasanton and $1600 later, there
    are 4 "new" TPMS sensors in my wheels. But how "new" are they? The
    dealer and service advisor was not able to guarantee to me that the
    sensors were "new" and that they would last the lifetime expected of a
    lithium battery. I hope the management at Mercedes and other car
    manufacturers and the legislators that mandated a tire pressure
    monitoring system have 1600 dollar bills every 4 months to keep their
    systems operational.

    So I did all that mines are about 2lbs over and the tire pressure still low? Had the tire shop check everything was fine can it be the tire pressure sensor?

      Solid i was on my way to get a tire pressure gauge. I notice it turn off guess it was one of the tires either slow leaking or needed more pressure ..I had rechecked pressure before hand it was at least 4lbs extra each thank you the video helps a lot too I will recheck tomorrow again Incase one of the tire is leaking.
