I'll post a companion later in the season. As far as the Li, it was ok but it got sunburn on a lot of the fruit that caused it to shrivel up. The ones that survived were decent but not worth my real estate. Which ever you choose is fine. Just make sure it's fully ripe.

You're welcome Stephen. I just ordered one called GA 866 jujube. It is said to be one of the sweetest sugar content verities with a apple like tast. I'm excited to see how that one compares to the sugarcane jujube. If you prefer the sweeter verities in fruit then I would definitely get the sugarcane jujube. I would also try one called (honey jar). I don't grow that one because I only have space for two and I haven't came across that one yet. Good luck.

I'm actually experimenting with it now. I only did 2 branches but they have not rooted yet. I would definitely encourage you to try other varieties than Li and Lang. I now grow the Ga866 and the sugarcane. The GA866 replaced my Li a couple of years ago
I have both, as well as several other varieties (in central Texas). In my opinion, Li is best late in the season. At that time, it can be very good for fresh eating. Happy growing!
I just planted the GA 866 last month as well. I can't wait to see how that one compares to the Li and sugar cane jujube. I wasn't too happy with the Li because a lot of them had sunburn soft spots. But it did hold on the tree longer than the sugar cane.
Congratulations on the GA 866! I do not have that variety, but have heard from other growers that it has a tendency to be a shy bearer. But if it does set fruit for you, it is supposed to have a very high sugar content. I hear you on Li tending to be spongey. In my experience, you can somewhat mitigate this by watering heavily before going to bed, harvesting early in the morning, and storing the fruit in the fridge. But yes, Li, in general, does seem to be kinda hit or miss regarding fresh eating quality. Something else to keep in mind is that jujubes are touted as being drought tolerant. And this is true; HOWEVER, the fruit absolutely cannot tolerate ANY lack of water while hanging on the tree. If hanging fruit is deprived of water, especially if the tree is potted, the fruit will shrivel, and WILL NOT plump back up, regardless of how much water you throw at it. As far as fresh eating varieties are concerned, my favorites are Honey Jar and Chico (GI 7-62). Honey Jar is very sweet, and VERY juicy. Chico has a marvelous sweet/tart balance that is unique among jujubes. If you like dried jujubes (I'm actually not a big fan of them dried), I recommend a variety called Don Polenski (though it may be difficult to find). Best of luck, my friend! @@fullyripegardening7877

Sugarcane and GA866 are the ones I have now. These are both better then the Li in my opinion. Unfortunately, I have not tried to propagate either of them. I have seen some on fourwindsgrower.com but depending on where you are located, they may not deliver.
This is the 3rd season for my sugarcane jujube. I replaced the Li with a GA866 around spring of last year and it has set fruit already. I'm just waiting for them to ripen since I've never tried the ga866. I'm excited to do another comparison. Stay tuned for that.
fully ripe gardening mine have been in ground 1 year. One has taken off since spring, but the other two are slow going so far. I bought honey jar, ga866 and another I cannot remember.

Bug? I have never seen any bugs on the fruit other than when it's in bloom. I allow all of the insects to pollinate them. Once all of the flowers are gone so are the insects.

Turns out that so far, digging root sprouts is better for that. It will just take me longer than I wanted to be a seller of jujube plants. Haven't given up on seed yet. No, I don't thin them out. They can hold their weight in fruit. I usually don't get much fruit drop either but they drop the unpollinated flowers . I just have them in full sun and water when they get dry. You can thin them out to see if they get bigger. I would probably then out the ones that are directly side by side to focus energy on the remaining fruit. If I remember correctly, my Li only started sizing up after it's 2nd fruiting season. I'm not sure how old your tree is but if it's young then try to thin and keep it in balance.
They are planted 12 inches apart and are both doing very well. I haven't had to prune them yet except for the branches that were growing in towards each other. I'll let them grow out some more this year and I'll prune for size control next year.

I've been trying to find those since I was in the Bahamas my family has a tree in the front yard, I tried to bring some back but customs won't let me bring them back because there are restrictions about plants and seeds coming into the US.. Your location will only cary what can be grown in your zone. You can try ordering online but sometimes they won't even ship out of state.

Do u thin out some of the fruit because I usually get a bunch of tiny fruit with my li and I noted seeing 1 large one out of the bunch last summer .
