Mario Golf Super Rush genuinely disappoints me. This is by far one of the worst cases of the "Finish it Later" approach Nintendo has done so far. But it goes beyond just missing content, it's genuinely worse from almost every angle compared to previous Mario Golf titles. The $40 3Ds game launched with better content, it was more creative, there were way better animations, etc. Super Rush legitimately feels like a budget title. Definitely working on my own video for it.
Most of smash ultimates content comes from previous games with hardly any new stuff and most of the new stuff is paid for add-ons, they didn’t even go back and fix some terrible poorly represented character movesets (DK, samus, sonic)
The Free content after launch deal is to SUPPOSED keep players coming back for more but only IF the game is *complete* and the player likes the game enough in the first place. It should *NOT* be used as a way to finish *uncompleted* games
The New Pokémon Snap update is a good example of this, especially if they keep making more. I already felt like New Snap was complete but they added more to it, and I loved it a lot.
The biggest problem this approach has is the future. While it's a severe disappointment now, it will be a disaster later. The eshop servers won't be around forever, you'll eventually be out of luck if you want to get a complete game, unless you hack. Nintendo is breeding a culture of console hacking that they're trying desperately to end at the same time
@@Demeech the skyward sword patch is still available because that fixed a game breaking bug, which prevented you from progressing, the wii u transfer tool is still available as well. However the updates you listed in the video are content updates, the game will still function as intended without those updates, whether or not Nintendo will keep the updates remains to be seen. Once the Wii U or 3DS eshop shuts down we should have our answer, since both have examples of the finish it later approach
100% good point. And I have an inkling they will just continue their aggressive handling with 'copyright' pirating of products they blatantly abandon and stopped supporting. It will only continue to bite them in the butt
Imagine BOTW2 having an update that added new characters and NPCs for important plot points and side quests almost a year later after the games release?
I think this is the reason why Nintendo's Wii games are some of their most beloved games. If the Wii Shop could download updates and/or DLC, Wii games might've been a lot worse. Imagine if Mario Kart Wii launched with the base Mario Kart 64 characters and a few new ones, and no retro courses, and then Nintendo added those in free updates. The fact that Nintendo now has an excuse to release unfinished games because of technology advancement, might be the reason why a lot of people like Nintendo's older consoles and games more then the Switch.
Animal Crossing New Horizons was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. It's weird to see Nintendo drop the ball for certain game series. Whenever they make Mario Kart 9, it better be a complete game!!
No. You're getting 12 characters in the base and 8 of then are Mario Luigi Peach and Daisy and their baby counterparts. The rest is Toad Yoshi, Bowser, and DK. You want interesting characters, wait 6 months bro.
I hate this too. Worst part is that AC use real-life time. Why would we use our time just for features? Daily Update will lose value of certain furniture and it wouldn't help counter time travel. It's pointless. Why out of all Series, AC?
@@jayceallen6530 That actually makes sense. Nintendo is horrible at making Mario Kart games so why make a sequel when there's an extremely high chance it'll be terrible. The only good ones before 8 were DS, Wii, & Double Dash.
This method killed off ARMS. I will never forgive Nintendo for doing this to a game that has so much potential. Also I have no interest in Mario sports of party games anymore. So they don’t get my $60 for that.
I disagree about ARMS because the content they added later didn't really change what people felt was missing from the base game. It still lacks a solid single-player experience, and while it would've been nice to have more characters at the beginning, the base roster was still varied and interesting and the online play was REALLY fun. I just hope they actually address these things with a sequel eventually
People tire of Nintendo doing this (apparently, especially the fans of Nintendo seeing it as this): "I demand you finish this game right now!" (Sorry, hand to try working in plankton's line)
To be fair ARMS suffered heavily because it launched right around Splatoon 2, so everyone went for that over it. The lack of content was more of a nail in the coffin
Smash ultimate still launched missing game modes that were staples in previous smash games. Stage builder and home run contest should have launched with the game instead of being added later
Well now that they know it works, Nintendo will stop doing it when people stop defending them. So never. Also pointing out that the newest Animal Crossing is far from "finished" even over a year later. It's ironic that they cut out so much that most of it is still missing. People online get upset if you criticise Nintendo for it though, which explains the current dumbed down state of many of their games.
@@Demeech It's because Twitter's shittily moderated due to its unsegmented, safe space-less format. RUclips centralizes discussions around videos that go into topics in-depth and gives creators more say in what can be discussed, and reddit has the whole subreddit deal going.
@SkyLight119 The Nintendo I loved died with Iwata. I had a bad feeling about his replacement from the first time I saw a picture of him. The sort of old man you'd expect was carrying an 'anti-fun stick' somewhere on him.
World Tour is actually a complete package and a great game. Nearly 20 courses, 24 characters, creative animations, interesting locations, etc. Super Rush looks like a generic golf game with Mario, Luigi, and co. slapped onto it.
Big agree. I've played entry and while new horizons is pretty, I was VERY disappointed on how empty it felt and still feels. Not to mention how tedious the newer features are and still no qol update And how dead the villagers dialogue is now. They just feel like accessories
Agreed and also not ac but im a huge fan of kirby (as you can tell) and I do admit that star allies was a pretty infamous example of fix it later and that I enjoyed the free update post launch post-game content more than the base game itself. I think star allies is still a fun game but the fact that it did this (and that I agree with demeech on the level enviroments not being as intresting and inspired as past games) makes the game the weakest of the "modern" kirby games
I'd argue that the original Splatoon was pretty bare on content at launch too, and it wasn't that far off from the level of ARMS. The reason it worked for that game and not all these other ones is two-fold I feel: Splatoon was incredibly fun, unique and felt fresh in a way that an old IP like mario or kirby never could, and they put out new content for it immediately and constantly in order to keep the game feeling that way. Every week there was at least one new thing to look forward to, and the content they added to Splatoon post-launch was often stuff that fundamentally changed the game, with them adding completely new weapon classes, maps and even entire game modes. Comparatively, Nintendo's other games mostly stick to just adding stuff like new characters and maybe a slightly different stage every now and then. They're all games that could never be the lightning in a bottle that Splatoon first was, and simultaneously their updates all do far less to try and make up for their lack of content
Not only did Splatoon's updates make meaningful additions to the game, they were so frequent that the lack of base content almost didn't matter. Compare that to now where Nintendo's finish it later approach has devolved into making miniscule changes once every several months. The difference is huge. Super Mario Party was basically left to rot for 3 years before it finally got an online mode and no one cared anymore by then. Splatoon may have laid the foundation for this strategy, but the way it was executed actually kept players coming back. Nintendo failed to do this in the same way with their other games and it lead to bad games with nothing to come back later for. I generally dislike the live service model but if you're gonna do it, at least do it right.
If you advertise your game as a live service, that’s pretty much a guarantee that it will be incomplete at launch. I absolutely hate live service games because they almost always launch with a lack of content. The fix it later approach really started with the 8th console generation, and it’s really sad that Nintendo is going down this route. I think a lot of people who defend incomplete games only do it because they know no better because they grew up with the past console generation
The only genres I think really work great as live services are F2P games and multiplayer games where you'd regularly pay for expansions or DLC anyway. Especially fighting games since the Season model is a much preferable alternative to the genre's history of full price version updates.
I hate to say this, I really do but the Switch feels like the opposite of the Wii U, whereas the Wii U was a bad console itself but had a lotta interesting and genuinely some good games, the Switch's a good console but lots of the games feel either uninteresting or mediocre (with exceptions of course). (Btw, sorry to be so harsh on Nintendo but I loved 'em and want 'em to be better but it really doesn't look like it anytime soon. I just hope all this low-effort stuff goes away sometime soon, I really do kinda miss 3DS and Wii U era Nintendo, the consoles might not've been great but the games really showed promise.)
@@JoJoboiWav You got a point. While I appreciate the Joy-Con and motion control stuff, it really feels like sometimes they push it to far or hard. The library's alright imo but not anything to ride home about. The more I think about it the more I realize the Switch isn't as great as I thought.
@@just1randomguy658 Nintendo is going through the same process as the one they use for their recent games : they release it unfinished on purpose to sell a complete version 4 or 5 years later
@@JoJoboiWav Yeah I know, it's honestly saddening since I know how good their games can be when they really do their best but these just scream getting a quick buck sometimes.
@@just1randomguy658 You do realize Nintendo isn't the only triple a company that does that? Sony & Microsoft do the same thing with their games and have been for over a decade now. Next Level games: I WON’T DO IT, Nintendo: YES YOU WILL Next Level games: NO, IT’S JUST NOT RIGHT TO RELEASE A GAME UNFINISHED! Nintendo: You know what happens if companies don’t release the game now and finish it later? They go bankrupt. Next Level games: *sigh* I’m afraid I have no choice fans *releases the game unfinished*
1:08 This is technically true, but rarely done. Putting out an unfinished game and labeling necessary updates as "free DLC" is a shitty practice. But putting out a complete game, then dropping more stuff down the line ABSOLUTELY will bring players back. I hopped back on Nick All Stars Brawl to try out the new DLC characters
These new mainline Mario games seem very... bland, clean, and empty? I feel that miyamoto has too tight a grip over the franchise that he doesn't want it be as wacky as it was during the gamecube or Wii era. You'll see it with the newest sports games, Super Mario Party, and the new Paper Mario. The games are beautiful but lack the inherent creativity and amount of content of the games that came before.
Well the current mario games that really feel empty are the spin offs (party games and sports games). The only one new mainline game is Odissey and man that game takes long to complete.
And yet Mario Odyssey exists, and what are you talking about, mainline games? There hasn't been one SINCE Mario Odyssey. These are all spin-offs or rereleases.
@@Demeech Star Allies is definitely a Kirby fan's Kirby game with all of the callbacks, references, playable characters, etc. However, it does feel kinda shallow, and I hope the next Kirby game is more interesting (I really want a 3D game).

@@papaG6423 True, Kirby: SA was made like a celebration game for the fans, but fans are fans to start because they like things on THEIR OWN merits, not something else's. Kirby: SA was either ridiculously rushed or trying to ride the franchise's past, its own story and aesthetic and the novelty of its Friend Heart gimmick, leaving the finer gameplay quality to rot even if such gameplay works technically. Like, even the graphics aren't properly polished for the play: the main gameplay is 30 FPS even though you can clearly see in the menus that the gorgeous animations were built for 60 FPS. And some dangers can get lost against the brightly-lit backgrounds, leading to getting cheapshotted despite most of the game having little challenge overall. And even if the lighting was fixed to improve visibility and performance and the player health nerfed to actually keep the player more on their toes and make the Friend Heart gimmick not completely broken but still helpful, the levels aren't exactly the best built. I call the game Kirby's Mega Man X5 moment: the point where a consistently good long-running game series takes a nosedive out of the blue from going big everywhere BUT the gameplay quality but isn't _quite_ in the pits. So it has more problems than simply being a victim of things that led to the need to finish it later.
@@CarbonRollerCaco It's definitly nostalgia, considering they later released Super Kirby Clash with inspiration from SA and that game straight up nostalgiabaited with stuff from the Kirby Clash-game on 3DS. I just don't see that as coincidence. The joke is, Planet Robobot is everything SA wanted to be, minus dream friends. And that was a cheaper game on the 3ds.
The worst part of all of this...is it's anti-preservation. Some years after Nintendo ends Switch production, the servers to download such content will be turned off as the end of Switch game sales will no longer cover server maintenance. So if one's Switch breaks or they're collecting game copies, guess what? Without a Switch with existing update data, you're stuck with the half-baked base games...at least legally. Homebrew and PC emulation are guaranteed workarounds I have no shame about thanks to this practice.
The fact that they updated Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and yet didn't make a new Mario Kart on switch is just very unrealistic Edit: The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster course dlc actually makes sense instead of a new Mario kart hence the sales, it’s the only way to keep the most sold switch game alive
There's no reason to get a new Mario Kart game. Business wise, that wouldn't make any sense, because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still very popular and I believe is the most sold switch game. There's no reason to make a sequel to something that's still selling like hotcakes and is very successful.
@@cammythompkins4379 on top of that, I do remember hearing that Nintendo had said that they would make a new Mario kart game if they had come up with a new mechanic to warrant making a new Mario kart game

I know your comment section is old, but i agree. Not everyone got internet acess and even if they do, some arent even that strong. 3:44 As a HUGE fan of Kirby (beat all the games, own a bunch of merch) ....that's kind of the point of the games? They're supposed to be easy platformers with a unfittingly dark final boss. The only skill involved in the game is making sure you hold onto certain abilities for certain rooms so you can obtain hidden items and such.
Well, for Metroid I find this very unlikely. I mean the general structure of the games doesn't really give much space for additional content and actually Metroid games are meant to also be completed in even less than two hours. As for Zelda I don't know, I don't know much about that series.
Free updates are reamly cool. What isnt cool is to pretend that your free ''updates'' ate new content when it's just something that should have been here since the beginning...
In my opinion, I think this isnt that bad because, especially with games that have online multiplayer, having frequent updates with new content will remind people that the game exists, leaving it with an active playerbase. If they put in all the content day 1 on some games, their multiplayer components may not be active in the long run because people wouldve forgotten about the game imo. What I DONT LIKE is when a game doesnt even have basic features or things people expect, or isnt even finished, and then add those features later.
I didnt wanna go back to Tennis after a full year just to play a couple games as Dry Bowser, they should have had the vast majority unlockable at launch. The postlaunch content makes it so the base game feels empty when you first get it, and each update was just too small on their own to entice me to come back. Is adding Fire Piranha plant really gonna make the playerbase skyrocket?
@@moneykenny119 yeah I don’t really play Mario tennis aces that much either. I play every once in a while with my friends but that’s really it. All of the updates should’ve been there since launch but I do at least appreciate the new characters they added even though they should’ve always been there
Great video! I think one of the big issues is they're using these free update formulas with franchise that have numerous entries from them, so we generally know how they work. Splatoon was fresh, literally! It was a shooter with some really unique mechanics, so even with the somewhat lacking content at launch, there was just getting used to the gameplay itself with millions of other players that made things alright with the smaller amount of content. But even with Splatoon, they had a very constant stream of content that was almost weekly! Super Mario Maker was a brand new idea, and I'd argue it definitely did have sufficient content at launch. Even if it was a little lacking though, it was such a novel concept that it would've worked a bit more had it had the "finish it later" approach. Mario Tennis? Mario Golf? Animal Crossing? Kirby? These aren't new franchises! Sure, they have some new gameplay changes and additions, but they're still the same general mechanics across their respective franchises. So, to have lacking content at launch with THESE games is far more offensive. We're already familiar with the franchises, but they're more shallow because they just lack content!
To be honest, I don't think Kirby Star Allies was unfinished at launch. Just empty and a little bland in terms of gameplay and modes. It had the same amount of content as Robobot and RtDL, Main Story, Extra Mode (with no harder bosses tho), an arena and a true arena, along with some side modes. The only problem was the content itself was pretty boring beyond the lore and story it was telling, with the dlc expanding that already pretty good story.
Mario kart 9 will be like "it releases with just 50cc to 150cc and not with time trials, battle mode or online play. We will just add those a year later."
I’ve been playing Arms for years now. And I can confirm that it in fact has far more content than people perceived. Hell, even at launch it had a decent amount of content before the DLC, just like Splatoon 1’s case.
I actually found Kirby Star Allies to be pretty fun, even with Nintendo's "Finish It Later" approach. Plus, seeing how Super Rush is my first experience with Mario Golf, it actually turned out to be pretty good for me. If you didn't like them, that's fine. As for me, I didn't get Mario Tennis Aces because it deviated from what the Mario Tennis games have been doing for years (that being while the other Mario Tennis games having an approach of "have a fun game of tennis and have a story mode revolving around just playing tennis", Mario Tennis Aces had a story mode where this evil racket possesses Luigi and the Wario Bros. and you had to save the world from it... which flopped miserably), whereas Mario Golf Super Rush stuck to the same formula of "have a fun game of golf and have a story mode revolving around just playing golf" even with the "Finish It Later" approach in mind. That said, I'm still thinking on addressing this issue to Nintendo sometime. I'm not defending it, but at the same time I don't exactly hate it either.
Mario Golf Super Rush? More like, Super RUSHED. I'm glad someone else has made that joke. I really hate this new business practice. For games like Splatoon, it makes context in the games world. There are games though like Animal Crossing: New Horizons that even after it's final update, STILL DOESN'T HAVE ALL THE CONTENT IN THE GAME. Games like Pokémon honestly make sense. You can't expect for Pokémon to balance like, 3,000 individual Pokémon by Gen 30. The main issue here imo is that they use this as an excuse to rush a game but the thing is, what about after the Switch goes offline and you can't update your game anymore? You can't play what is considered the full game.
Just so you know, this a problem that is prevalent throughout the entire gaming industry, not just Nintendo. I know it sucks that Nintendo is doing this now, but they wouldn’t have started it if it weren’t for other companies doing the same thing.
@@Demeech My point still stands. This problem goes away only if every major game stop stops along with Nintendo, which won’t happen because EA exists. My only advice is to get used to it, support games that do updates properly, or stop buying Nintendo games altogether.
True. I get that everyone's on the Nintendo hate train for good reason, but I don't think that's an excuse to ignore older and worse offenders just because we expect them to suck.
Yeah, the whole gaming industry has this problem. I know you only care and focus on Nintendo, but they're not the only ones doing this. I feel like the only way that Nintendo to stop is that other companies stop doing it too. Who knows maybe they stop and listen to everyone but it probs won't happen anytime soon.
Like I said in my own OP here, some things that led to this, like games being more complicated overall, are out of the industry's control, but some, like Remake Syndrome, aren't.
And most importantly, fans will have to stop complaining when a game isn't released yet. It's after all their fault if it pushes companies to make their games unfinished : they don't realise that game took time, like painting. That's a another major issues too.
@@NuiYabuko People don't get forcefully prevented to buy them so I'm not sure how they aren't allowed to...and even then they're just saying it's for the best that we should reconsider how our seemingly impulse buys affect the games.
If nintendo didn't take forever with their content updates i'd still have a problem with this but it definitely wouldn't be as bad as how they do it now. Waiting half a year just for a game you paid $60/$40 for to be complete was never a good choice and i'll be very happy when Nintendo stops doing it.
I have so many issues with Nintendo doing this. So many games are coming out unfinished and they are using updates as excuses to release these games unfinished. The one game I was really excited for, New Horizons came out in a horrible state. So many features missing and it took the almost 2 years to add things. It was not as bad as other games, but for me it was so disappointing. I do not mind free updates, but they need to add to the content in the game, not use it as a way to finish the game
The only game I don't mind having this kind of problem is Kirby Star Allies. I don't know why, but when I played it first when it came out, I always wanted to play more of it and I ended up 100% completing story mode in 3 days and the rest of the game in 5 more days. I also completed Guest star mode with every single character and when the other 2 waves came out I was super happy, especially with the 3rd one where they brought back Magolor (my favourite Kirby-releated final boss), Taranza and Susie (Return to Dreamland and Planet Robobot are my favourite Kirby games and I can't decide between these 2 which one is my absolutely favourite🤷♂️). I 100% completed another file in Kirby Star Allies a couple of months ago and I'm saving the last file for when the next game is announced (recently I've also started to replay Return to Dreamland, that game is so good)
Star Allies _works_ technically, but has such weak level design that it gets boring. And it's too easy even for a Kirby game because the health values for all the characters aren't balanced around the ally system, making said system OP rather than take things from rough to more manageable. And it's not even challenging in the right way when it does get hard: hazards often blend in with the too-bright backgrounds. I was very late in the base game with a whole vault of lives before taking my first death, and it was due to a stray flying enemy or projectile (I don't remember which) that I mistakenly thought myself safe from because I couldn't see it clearly enough to anticipate its movements. (I think I only got that close to death because I was trying to figure out one of the Copy Abilities on the spot.) Boss movements and attacks are similarly camouflaged. But props for loving Return to Dream Land. That game is godly. Super Star Ultra's still my favorite game of all time, but other than Star Allies, you can't really go wrong with Kirby. Still, he NEEDS to go full-on 3D some day. I think the problem is that they still want to keep the games accessible to young children without off-putting more hardcore gamers, and thus may be baffled on how to accomplish that in a free 3D environment.
@@redcyan72 agreed, sa may be the weakest modern kirby game imo but that doesn't mean I didn't still enjoy it. RtDL is my personal favourite although robobot is close second

I still see 3ds games for the full price here in germany hell i saw the ds professor layton games and some other ones last week and they still are full price after what 14 years?!
The ARMS content added wasn't really related to the complaints it lacked content. The roster of characters was small, but it was the beginning of a new fighting game franchise, so I completely understand it. What it really lacked was more fleshed-out single player content. The online play was actually fantastic, and the characters added later all *felt* like a bonus. That said, i agree with everything else! I'm kinda fine with Animal Crossing since it's a slow-paced life sim and MOST of the stuff they add is seasonal, so it makes sense to release it seasonally! I also kind of like that it takes time for big features to come in thematically, since it adds to the feeling that you're living on a remote island that's only just beginning to develop. I understand why people expected more at launch, though. It had been a long time since New Leaf, and they didn't make it clear that any of the big missing features were planned to return.
11:24 literally happened to me with Tennis Aces, I played the game until I got bored of it, then never played it again. Even when I heard about all the stuff about the characters and tournaments or whatever, I just kinda shrugged it off because the game had that bad first impression... so yeah, good video
Great video. I agree with most if not all of your points in this video. The Nintendo Switch games that adds free updates that I'm OK with is Animal Crossing New Horizons, Super Mario Maker 2, and Splatoon 2. Games like Kirby Star Allies, Mario Tennis Aces, and Mario Golf Super Rushed launch incomplete and are priced at 60 dollars. Like Scott said, by the time all the free updates are done, I'm not going to care. I bought Mario Tennis Aces at a discount and after all the updates were done. I love Mario Tennis Aces and have been playing it non stop but it is not ok waiting launching it unfinished and fixing it later. I'm going to pick Mario Golf Star Rush once all the updates are done and when its on a discount.

Hearing the amiibo bit towards the start just made me think, imagine if there were “sportsmate” costumes in a similar way to Mario maker costumes. Rather, like Mario kart suits but on the scale of Mario maker costumes.
And now, they've already announced that Switch Sports will release without all of its game modes. To say nothing of the absolute state that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were released in.
6:45 That reminds me of Mario Golf: Super Rush’s intro where when Wario sees the banana peel, they used the “That’s Us!” line from Mario Power Tennis, which makes no sense either. In that scene, Wario and Waluigi see their picture of them being defeated and Wario shouted “That’s Us!” when seeing it, which makes sense.
and now for some reason, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is planned to get 48 additional courses, not complaining, just wondering why Nintendo took 5 years to release that content, and not at or close to the launch?
Well, to be fair, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is pretty much Mario Kart 8 with the DLC and an ACTUAL BATTLE MODE. It's as pretty much as complete as you could get for that game at the time.
Imagine if Nintendo decided to create a new smash bros game without the help of Masahiro Sakurai (maybe due to retirement, illness or death) and after numerous character reveals, and the announcement of the official title, and the game finally being launched, The game lacks content than the last one. Whatever this content is, this resulted in an outrage of gamers who loved one of the most ambitious and greatest video game crossovers of all time, ended up becoming tainted and disrespected with the "Fix it later" approach by none other than Nintendo.

The fact u have to wait for new content is really annoying and boring it's so overused at this point that it could be considered one of the things that ruined gaming
I think it's only acceptable to do this when a game is mainly online, like splatoon. If it's a mainly offline game however, it should release finished so it can still be played decades later when the update servers shut down.
It feels like all the spin-off Mario games for the Switch are really disappointing compared to older titles. Why does Mario Golf WT, which costs lower, have more content and creativity than a Switch game? This is ridiculous!
I have NO IDEA. All the Mario Sports games on the Switch aren't as good as past entries and were all launched unfinished. The only original Mario Kart we got was Home Circuit.

It's amazing how a company that filled my childhood with such joy would grow to annoy me with game droughts and really horrible games (Wii U era) and unfinished games and baffling and stupid decisions (Switch era). I stopped playing Star Allies after the Marx update, quit Aces not even a month later, and I hated just about everything in Super Mario Party. These updates don't keep people interested, if anything it kills the game faster and by the time something of substance comes, it's too little, too late. Oh yeah, an online update to Super Mario Party? It's over two years too late! Ended up selling it and Star Allies. I want this stuff in the game at launch, but by the time it comes, I don't care anymore. New Horizons has left many bitter, probably way too late to get many back into the game. That New Donk City course looks cool, but who knows? Nintendo will probably host a September Direct and show it off and I'm not going to care by then. I'll be playing Sonic Colors and the new WarioWare by then. Mario Golf Super Rush will be dead within a month, the online will be a ghost town and when the updates come, it'll be too late.
As someone who is played and be in Mario Golf super rush you are probably right. The game is fun especially with friends but it’s just not enough content. The golf courses feel very uninspired and all of them feel like courses you would see in any other golf game excluding Bowser‘s castle. Speed golf is actually a pretty cool idea and it is fun. Battle golf in my opinion is easily one of the best parts about the game but the problem is there is only two courses for it so the replay value is very limited. The story mode I did have decent fun with and it took me about 10 hours to complete but it does have many problems. I think they should’ve made 5 more golf courses but these five would actually feel like they’re in the Maria universe. They should’ve made at least 3 battle golf courses to. They also should’ve made side missions in the story mode because well I do love the hub worlds there’s nothing to do in them And I have many other thoughts about the story mode to trust me
@@jackthememer1186 The issue is the games don't have enough content at launch. Kirby got one update at launch, the other two came in late July and November, and Aces was legitimately unfinished, getting an opening cutscene for the story in I believe March, nine months after the game launched.
Kirby Star Allies was 100% complete. It didn't lack content, it was just disappointing. It had about as much content as Kirby games usually do. The Dream Friends they added over time were actually amazing imo. If they were all added at the start, I definitely wouldn't've played through Guest Star with all of them. Instead, the spread out releases meant I was able to come back to the game and enjoy brand new content. Heroes in Another Dimension was fantastic, but I honestly don't think it should've been in the game at launch. Heroes in Another Dimension was the culmination of what was slowly built up with the Dream Friend Wave updates. The mode focuses on the Dream Friends that were added, and anyone who came back to play as the Dream Friends each wave would be familiar with them, and able to enjoy the grand finale. I would much rather play Star Allies as it happened, then have to wait 8 whole months to get 1 hour or so of fantastic side content. Playing as all the Dream Friends in Guest Star would've gotten old fast, and i certainly wouldn't've got as much enjoyment out of the game as I did. -- Mario Tennis & Mario Golf do not have "finish it later" approaches imo. The content they add is cool, but it's not amazing, and it doesn't "complete" the game in any means. Aces still lacked worthwhile content when it was all said and done, and I'm sure Golf will be the same way. Would we rather play the game now? Or wait a year to get a tiny bit more content that won't make the game that much better? The problem isn't that they are "finishing it later". The problem is that there isn't much content in general. This is a problem with Camelot specifically. Animal Crossing is pretty much the only game not developed by Camelot that seems to have a problem with this.
ARMS was a problem too. But I respect your points 100% Kirby Star Allies wasn't optimized well either. Why did it run at 30fps and have 7 second loading screens during levels?
@@Demeech Yeah, Star Allies definitely didn't run well. It actually had frame drops quick a bit in more busy scenarios. Super Kirby Clash was also in 30fps, but by Kirby Fighters 2, they finally got it to run 60fps, so hopefully from now on they've figured out how to optimize it enough to run higher / more consistent frame rates.
That's just not true though. Most of the bosses lacked proper EX forms before heroes in another dimension, which every other mainline kirby game since 2010 has managed to do. Even after all the dlc, bosses like the fox and raccoon got the shaft. You can argue they already had ex forms, but does it really count when theres hardly a visual difference and the attacks barely change?
You know what's worst? The fact that there are simple game elements from previous tittles that aren't even here. Like how can you tell me that this game reuses animatios for birdies/eagles/hole in ones etc., and uses the same animations for all the bogeys. While in World tour for example they had creative and fun animations. Also they barely have any voicelines apart from yahoos and grunts. I think the longest phrase a character says in this game is Daisy's Bogey animation where she says "whatever" meanwhile in Toadstool tour we had full sentences. The special shots are really cool but some are clearly more overpowered and that's because 7/16 of the characters have unique effects to their shots while the rest get generic blast aways. AND WE DON'T GET A BALL TRAJECTORY FORMAT >:(
Ok but lets say that nintendo add everysingle holiday feature to new horizons what do we have now? Updates for small holiday items that you can buy anytime? Thats not big enough to qualify itself as an "update"
The same things can be said for EA. Not only are the sims team still finishing the game 6 years later, They also are releasing unfinished and buggy packs and patching them years down the line. It’s a shame companies are doing this especially Nintendo
I'm writing this comment on Februrary 25, 2022 This video is mind-blowing to me! I can't believe that Nintendo is turning into an average AAA game company by releasing unfinished games at launch
@@maplemiles3381 not all of the games made by Nintendo were launched with enough content but I admit that most of them were finished at launch and adding it with free content or updates to make it more enjoyable (maybe I'm stupid) But I'm still worried that Nintendo is releasing unfinished games at this point. Some of those games were good but it can disappoint some of their fans with lack of content
Yes I agree with you. The only reason why the most dying switch games are celling so much because Parents are blindly buying them because they say rated E for everyone.
And it seems that they'll still using this practice, now that they announced Nintendo Switch Sports with a future free update to use an accessory you can't use day one on the soccer sport, and another free update to add golf way later after release. Yikes
As much as I like Mario Golf: Super Rush, the free content updates with the lack of content at launch are NOT ok. It’s definitely disappointing that many Switch games have been limiting content at launch to only make people wait until later to experience everything.
To be honest, I streamed Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour as of recent. THE CONTENT IN THAT GAME MAKES SUPER RUSH LOOK "SUPER RUSHED". Like its missing SO MANY modes & fun stuff. The Ring Challege, Birdie Challenge, Coin Golf, The creative looking courses (especially Peach's Tournament & Bowser's Championship), and so much more... I honestly miss the days Nintendo finish a game full of content in everywhere you go. I'm still surprised how many people say the switch has great games and all, but I feel like many of them are just not finished. In my opinion I sometimes think the switch is overrated. But that's mostly because it's games are just not finished.
I had NO IDEA it was that bad. LonelyGoomba is also doing a video on it. I'm looking foward to it.
Most of smash ultimates content comes from previous games with hardly any new stuff and most of the new stuff is paid for add-ons, they didn’t even go back and fix some terrible poorly represented character movesets (DK, samus, sonic)
I had fun with it.
Haven't touched it and I don't really plan to-Mario sports games aren't my thing outside of Kart-but it sounds quite divisive.
After Mario Tennis Aces I stopped buying Mario sports games.
Anyone gonna mention how Super Mario Party got a proper online mode 3 YEARS after launch!?
Super Mario Party was just bad in general. So that's why I didn't mention it.
It was an addition to an already meh game and a beta test for Superstar's Online.
What's the point of releasing an online mode when Mario Party Superstar comes out?
It’s like Nintendo announced Mario Party Superstars because they already knew that Super Mario Party didn’t perform well. 😂

I went back and still go back to Super Mario Maker 2. I NEVER went back to Mario Tennis Aces and Kirby Star Allies.

However the updates you listed in the video are content updates, the game will still function as intended without those updates, whether or not Nintendo will keep the updates remains to be seen.
Even the Wii U with internet never released unfinished games. They were either good or bad.

It's killed a lot of games. Nobody cares about Mario Tennis Aces anymore yet people still go back to Mario Power Tennis and Mario Tennis Power Tour.
I disagree about ARMS because the content they added later didn't really change what people felt was missing from the base game. And how dead the villagers dialogue is now.
I don't feel underwhelmed by Splatoon. But the others, yes.
All it took for me to say NOPE to Mario Golf: Super Rush was the "free updates are coming" reveal at E3 2021.
The only genres I think really work great as live services are F2P games and multiplayer games where you'd regularly pay for expansions or DLC anyway. Especially fighting games since the Season model is a much preferable alternative to the genre's history of full price version updates.

I agree 100%
They should put some of World Tour’s courses in Super Rush
Or just make new courses on PAR with the game.
I agree with you Demeech Nintendo really needs to stop releasing their games unfinished
Since online play, they're removing content from local multiplayer so MK9 will probably launch without it
Because that's exactly what's been happening. rolls-eyes
I’ve been playing Arms for years now. And I can confirm that it in fact has far more content than people perceived. Hell, even at launch it had a decent amount of content before the DLC, just like Splatoon 1’s case.
I may check it out someday.
This practice has become almost expected and it won't stop unless the customers stop incentivising it
I actually found Kirby Star Allies to be pretty fun, even with Nintendo's "Finish It Later" approach.
Agree. Unfortunately this won't stop. But it still sucks that we have to deal with this. At least we have indie studios to look to.
Just so you know, this a problem that is prevalent throughout the entire gaming industry, not just Nintendo. I know it sucks that Nintendo is doing this now, but they wouldn’t have started it if it weren’t for other companies doing the same thing.
I expect more from Nintendo. They have proven they can make great complete Switch games.
@@Demeech My point still stands. This problem goes away only if every major game stop stops along with Nintendo, which won’t happen because EA exists. My only advice is to get used to it, support games that do updates properly, or stop buying Nintendo games altogether.
@@Demeech true but Who knows what Nintendo has to reserve us in the future
True. I get that everyone's on the Nintendo hate train for good reason, but I don't think that's an excuse to ignore older and worse offenders just because we expect them to suck.
Still now fine with other company’s doing its not just Nintendo.
It's a major issue regardless.
When Demeech complains it triggers me inside. Nintendo needs to do better.
It needs to be said.
They won't, because People Are Gonna Buy It Anyway™️. 😒
@@zjzr08 And people are allowed to.
I feel like adding DLC is fine, such as new maps and tracks but adding key features like online mode is dumb because it should be out at launch.
Those games aren't unfinished though. Learn what words mean, people.
I 100% completed another file in Kirby Star Allies a couple of months ago and I'm saving the last file for when the next game is announced (recently I've also started to replay Return to Dreamland, that game is so good)
I wish Kirby Star Allies was good. I just didn't like it.
I agree! Although it isn't as good as Return to Dreamland or Planet Robobot, but I still loved it.
@@redcyan72 Planet Robobot is my favourite one
@@redcyan72 agreed, sa may be the weakest modern kirby game imo but that doesn't mean I didn't still enjoy it. RtDL is my personal favourite although robobot is close second

I really hope Mario Strikers: Battle League does not have this problem.
It's so weird New Leaf on the 240p Nintendo 3DS had more content than the shiny new game on Switch.
11:24 literally happened to me with Tennis Aces, I played the game until I got bored of it, then never played it again. Even when I heard about all the stuff about the characters and tournaments or whatever, I just kinda shrugged it off because the game had that bad first impression... so yeah, good video
Sold it in October and got Luigi's Mansion 3DS instead. Good move Demeech.
I love Mario Tennis Aces and have been playing it non stop but it is not ok waiting launching it unfinished and fixing it later. I'm going to pick Mario Golf Star Rush once all the updates are done and when its on a discount.

Imagine if Nintendo decided to create a new smash bros game without the help of Masahiro Sakurai (maybe due to retirement, illness or death) and after numerous character reveals, and the announcement of the official title, and the game finally being launched, The game lacks content than the last one. Question: Will you be buying/trying Super Rush once its updated fully? Based off the fact they said "courses" and "characters" id assume we're getting several of both. Super Rush has great core gameplay, especially Speed Golf, even if the game has generic courses.
If they have it on sale for $30, maybe.

Camelot’s games nowadays are really lacking and aren’t of the highest quality, but I haven’t played world tour to take that as consideration

They also should’ve made side missions in the story mode because well I do love the hub worlds there’s nothing to do in them And I have many other thoughts about the story mode to trust me
WarioWare already looks great. I trust Intelligent Systems.

--
Mario Tennis & Mario Golf do not have "finish it later" approaches imo.
But I respect your points 100%
Kirby Star Allies wasn't optimized well either. Why did it run at 30fps and have 7 second loading screens during levels?
@@Demeech
Yeah, Star Allies definitely didn't run well.
@@Demeech So you went from unfinished games to framerate and load times? How many disingenuous arguments can you make?
AND WE DON'T GET A BALL TRAJECTORY FORMAT >:(
It's so weird that Toadstool Tour and even Advance Tour have better animations. And of course World Tour.
