Someone always eventually comes along, in some field of endeavor (science, mathematics, music, literature, business, philosophy, etc.) and gives a glimpse of the potential human beings really have. Ala Esperanza!
I'm always amazed whether I'm watching a video or listening to one of her recordings. She really makes me feel like she's singing to ME ONLY, and we don't know each other.
Who are the 31 tonedeaf people who disliked this video? I saw her open for Prince last weekend and she gives me hope for the future of jazz! What a phenomenal talent! Thanks for sharing this video!

BTW this double bass is not very expensive. It's a Czech Ease, a special instrument for double bassists on the road, which doesn't require high transportation charges by the various airlines. It delivers a decent sound and allows any good bassist to express his/her chops perfectly. Esperanza uses it many times with her impeccable chops!
I'd never have discovered her if it wasn't for "Dorothy Dandridge Eyes", her song with Janelle Monae. I'm grateful I lived to see such concentrated awesomeness and raw talent. More grease to your elbows Esperanza!
SORRY, I'm LOATH to Admit, I've SEEN this video BEFORE,Yet, THIS TIME, a Few Years, LATER...the Solo Baby-Girl lays down towards the end is a MUFFCKR !!! (And I Ain't a "FAN"! I PLAY the Bass, and have listened to ALL of them..)NONE THE LESS...
Pure genius...not matter what gender! She is the writer of the presentations, I think. Which more than qualifies her into a class I only dream of! Performer extraordinaire! Otis Brown! The keyboardist is Richard? Forgot his last name, but he looks similar to the 'boardist that appeared with her on PBS.
Love the opening groove, segway-ing into a rippin' Rhythm Changes loop. And the close of Crayola - the best bits. Great to see this whole show in one take. AMAZING!!

I became aware of Esparanza last year, first time seeing and hearing her though. All I can say is...Wow! Ugly bass? I guess "different" is ugly to some people, I thought variety was the "spice of life?" "To each his own" they say. I didn't see anything but "inspirational beauty" on that stage! Wow again Bravo!

rembeadgc I feel totally ashamed that I've only just heard of her.
Don't blame yourself. Just be happy that you HAVE discovered this talented artist and share your appreciation of her with others. Happy listening!
how can one be that good both at singing and playing?
Paulo José I know right?
So true. I can play guitar. And I can sing. But not both at the same time, very well.
Because it's Esperanza!
She's from my town, Portland, Oregon. It's been amazing to watch her career through the years, a stunning and unique musical genius. So proud of her!
I'm always amazed whether I'm watching a video or listening to one of her recordings. She really makes me feel like she's singing to ME ONLY, and we don't know each other.
She is absolutely amazing. It is not easy to find this talent in centuries...

Fabulous! Thanks for uploading. With Esperanza is Otis Brown, Drums; Leo Genovese, Piano; Ricardo Vogt, Guitar.
Wonderful conjunction of voice and mastery of the double bass. Esperanza Spalding is an extraordinary bass player. Brava !!!

If an artist could capture this moment and make a good picture of it, it'd make for a splendid album cover in my opinion
Jazz is my kryptonite.....don't tell nobody . :-)
Beautiful in ALL senses !

Просто бесподобно !!!

goddess of music
Ouvir João Bosco lá fora é muito bom.
Like a teenager that thinks they have discovered sex
A talented soul who exudes beauty in every way (with a great band, too).
Pura energia!!!.
I love it that her shirt is coming off and she doesn't even care, just into the music. This is intense.
Many years later 2022, I ask you why the audience is so dull? They should absolutely freak out. Maybe the soul is missing.
her fingers and her voice and her energy and her stamina, wtf
q qliao hoy lo salude a los músicos de esperanza q estaban en santiago del estero
maravillosa artista..... me fui de mente..... un placer....
Wow aún hay gente que hace buena música
Ah, a basque introduction, interesting...
Since they are in the Basque Country, sounds reasonable thar they would speak their language.
@@georgesquarzon2690 Indeed...
interesting how her singing transforms once she gets that bass in her hands. It definitely anchors her vocals.
THE BEAUTY AND THE TALENT
TALENT AND BEAUTIFUL
SORRY, I'm LOATH to Admit, I've SEEN this video BEFORE,Yet, THIS TIME, a Few Years, LATER...the Solo Baby-Girl lays down towards the end is a MUFFCKR !!! (And I Ain't a "FAN"! I PLAY the Bass, and have listened to ALL of them..)NONE THE LESS...
There's Esperanza Spalding, and several steps after her, all the rest....
Laurence Elder brought me here
Me too. MUS 113?
I'm in Love! This woman is a breath of fresh air!
Dang man, her voice is sexier than she is, and I can't quite process that.......
You must've mistaken this video for some other video, because I don't see any ugly basses in this one.
She is MUSIC!!!! This is an example how your music touches the people from all over the world!!!!
Egoista Zion Malik ! She sings for the world, not for one !!!!!!!!!! You're right, drummer !
