The Royal Palace of Madrid (Spanish: Palacio Real de Madrid) is the official residence of the Spanish royal family at the city of Madrid, although now used only for state ceremonies. The palace has 135,000 m2 (1,450,000 sq ft) of floor space and contains 3,418 rooms.[1][2] It is the largest royal palace in Europe.[3]

"The palace is owned by the Spanish state and administered by the Patrimonio Nacional, a public agency of the Ministry of the Presidency.[4] The palace is on Calle de Bailén ("Bailén Street") in the western part of downtown Madrid, east of the Manzanares River, and is accessible from the Ópera metro station. Felipe VI and the royal family do not reside in the palace, choosing instead the Palace of Zarzuela in El Pardo.
The palace is on the site of a bygone Muslim-era fortress constructed by Emir Muhammad I of Córdoba in the 9th century. The imposing Alcázar of Madrid provided both a safe for the royal treasure and a habitual residence to the Trastámara monarchs in the late Middle Ages. Having endured substantial expansion works during the 16th century, the royal alcázar remained on the site until it burned down on 24 December 1734. A new palace was then built from scratch on the same site on behalf of the Bourbon dynasty. Construction spanned the years 1738 to 1755 and followed a Berniniesque design by Filippo Juvarra and Giovanni Battista Sacchetti in cooperation with Ventura Rodríguez, Francesco Sabatini, and Martín Sarmiento. During the Second Spanish Republic the building was known as "Palacio Nacional".
The interior of the palace is notable for its wealth of art and the use of many types of fine materials in the construction and the decoration of its rooms. It includes paintings by artists such as Caravaggio, Juan de Flandes, Francisco de Goya, and Velázquez, and frescoes by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Corrado Giaquinto, and Anton Raphael Mengs. Many of the paintings at some time hung in the palace as part of the Spanish royal collection are exhibited elsewhere, especially in the Prado Museum and the Royal Collections Gallery, both in Madrid.
Other collections of great historical and artistic importance preserved in the building include the Royal Armoury of Madrid, porcelain, watches, furniture, silverware, and the world's only complete Stradivarius string quintet.

El palacio real pertenece al estado español, más concretamente al organismo público Patrimonio Nacional, que se encarga de la conservación del palacio. El presupuesto de la conservación de los bienes del patrimonio nacional proviene de los presupuestos generales del estado.
Este palacio se usa en recepciones oficiales de los actuales reyes, Felipe VI y Letizia, cuando viene de visita, por ejemplo, algún jefe de otro estado, rey, presidente… u otros actos oficiales y se utiliza el comedor para banquetes y la sala del trono y otras salas para las audiencias.
Una curiosidad, los aparatos que ves no son de aire acondicionado, sino que sirven para mantener la humedad en niveles constantes para que las obras de arte no se deterioren (las hay en todos los museos del mundo)
Una sugerencia si quieres asombrarte y maravillarte de verdad visita el otro palacio de la realeza española, el Palacio de El Escorial.

En el Palacio Real de Madrid caben tres Buckingham Palace.
There is a story in Madrid that has always been about the Palace. King Alfonso XIII always considered leaving it to go to a smaller one because every time he ordered food it always ended up arriving cold to his rooms, due to the distances and time that the food had to travel throughout the Palace.
In any case, it is definitely enormous, and it is understandable that both Franco and King Juan Carlos preferred to live in more practical and manageable places, such as the El Pardo Palace or the Zarzuela Palace.
Another interesting fact is that after the great fire, it was completely rebuilt in Guadarrama Granite, one of the hardest stones for construction and very abundant in the province (many important buildings are made of this stone), which makes it almost indestructible.

La anécdota es auténtica, pero Napoleon no vivía en Versalles, Napoleon vivía en el desaparecido Palacio de las Tullerías, quemado durante la comuna de París (1871). En Versalles acondicionó unas habitaciones en el Grand Trianon, que es un pequeño palacio dentro de los Jardines del gran palacio.

El Palacio Real de Madrid, con 135.000 M2 y 3418 habitaciones, es casi el doble de grande que el palacio de Versalles de Paris- Francia y el de Buckingham de Londres - Reino Unido.
Es el palacio más grande de Europa Occidental y uno de los más grandes del mundo.

The names of Bernardo Gálvez, Fernando Leyva, Gardoqui, Unzaga, Saavedra, almirall Córdoba... Should be known by all American people. It has been valuated in 4 trillion dollars today, the global support from Spain to the Independence of USA.
Sadly, American are not really educated much on world history or events. If you find an American that knows a lot about the world, it is due to their own curiosity or private education.

Es impresionante cuando estás en un primer piso ( a unos 8 - 10 metros de altura,) y después de ir recorriendo estancias, atraviesas una de esas puertas y te encuentras con toda una iglesia dentro de un palacio, el nombre exacto es " Capilla Real" , y quedas impactado, ¿como desde un primer piso levantaron semejante sala interior?, que justamente es el punto de mayor altura del Palacio. Quedará siempre en mi recuerdo, precioso y sorprendente.

6:30 baroque ceilings are usually modelled in stucco, and not carved in stone (not to take anything away from the artistry of the artists who built this place).
The royal palace is extremely large so you cannot visit its 3,418 rooms. There are perhaps between 50 and 80 rooms for the visit, first for the conservation of heritage and order in the visits, it would be crazy to let so many people go to so many rooms. so many of them are reserved, it would also perhaps be too long to see, you could spend almost a whole day
It would take much longer than a day.
It takes all day to see the Biltmore in USA and they only have like 50 or 60 rooms available for viewing.

Where was the Throne Room? A lot of great rooms missing. But its awesome.

There are some videos of the throne on RUclips. I'm not sure is that room is open to public but I remember that I saw it on a video on this platform

Según he leído Patrimonio Nacional conserva más 600 luminarias históricas repartidas por palacios, entre ellos el Palacio Real. De las que se encuentran en el mismo las más antiguas datan de finales del siglo XVIII. La electricidad llegó a Madrid sobre el 1852 por los alrededores del Palacio Real. Yo creo que las luminarias son históricas y estarán adaptadas a la electricidad, aunque no sé si todas

Jajaja eso no sucede en España, que sea tan caro por la zona. la sociedad está muy mezclada de antiguo . Un primo mío vivía a 100 mts de la entrada del palacio Real , Palacio de Oriente. Y cada dia veía el cambio de Guardia y los músicos que la acompañaban. Los pífanos con sus flautas. 😅

The old Guastavino came from Valencia Spain and utilized the mediterranean vaults System , It is built by two or three layers of bricks crossed one over one..... Like the ceilings vaults of the Central Station in new York today.

Built in the XVI century for the Pope, was chosen by Napoleon as his imperial palace (but he lost to the brits before he could step foot in it), after Unification in 1861 it became the italian royal palace, until the end of WWII. From 1947 to this day it’s the residence and office President of the Italian Republic.
It occupies the Quirinal Hill, one of Rome’s original Seven Hills, and it’s a massive, stunning palace rich in history and full of incredible art (but most of it cannot be visited by regular people).
You can also check out the Royal Palace of Caserta (bigger royal palace in the world), used as location for the planet Naboo in the Star Wars prequels; the Royal Palace in Naples, and the Royal Palace in Venaria, near Torino.

The Royal Palace of Caserta is bigger in volume not in area. If we speak about area the Spanish is bigger but it's only the 5th or 6th in the world

@@Average_Middle_Aged_American Cheers! Congrats on the 900 . If you visit castles, cathedrals, or large palaces like this, you’ll notice how the temperature stays cool and stable, even on the hottest days. Even in old small houses made in stone, like my grandparents' home in Belmonte, Cuenca.

@@conigliostressato - I guess it really depends on where you live. 100*F with 90% humidity is pretty unbearable without AC just like 20*F is pretty unbearable without heat.

Al final del video se vé algo del cuarteto palatino de Stradivarius que es único en el mundo. Este cuarteto no puede salir del Palacio. Para ser tocado en conciertos dentro del Palacio hay que seguir un protocolo muy estricto, si estás interesado hay vídeos de conciertos. La otra colección que guarda el Palacio que es única en el mundo son los relojes. En la habitación de porcelana se ve algo de uno que es espectacular El atlas, pero hay muchos más

@@Joan-kr1jo - I had to do it because there are programs that automatically file copyright claims on youtube. I lost about 12 hours one week on videos I had to delete. Other than text, it does not mess up too much.

@@Average_Middle_Aged_American El palacio de San Lorenzo del Escorial, fue construido en honor a San Lorenzo, un santo que fue ejecutado por los Romanos asándolo vivo en una parrilla de hierro, como una barbacoa gigante.
Por eso el palacio tiene forma de rejilla visto desde arriba. Y si, es muy simétrico.
También es un monasterio, donde viven monjes a día de hoy, y en su cripta se entierran a los Reyes de España desde el siglo XVI.
También tiene una biblioteca de libros prohibidos por la inquisición, porque al Rey Felipe II le interesaba mucho la alquimia, y las reglas...no aplicaban para él, al parecer.

@Average_Middle_Aged_America El palacio del Escorial se construyó en honor de San Lorenzo. Un santo a quien los romanos asesinaron asándolo en una parrilla de hierro.
Así que el palacio tiene forma de parrilla visto desde arriba.
Tiene en su interior un monasterio, y en la cripta se entierran a los Reyes de España desde el siglo XVI.
También tiene una colección de libros de alquimia muy extensa, porque a Felipe II le interesaba mucho el tema. Y aunque los libros estaban prohibidos por la iglesia, el si podía tenerlos, al parecer.😂😂😂😂😂.
Y sí, es muy simétrico.

Ese día hay desfile militar con la presencia del Rey.
Estaria bien una reacción al mismo.

Será " divertido " para usted y los de su cuerda. El presidente del gobierno merece respeto, les guste o no .Ha sido electo por unas Cortes democráticas. El comportamiento de la extrema derecha es el esperado : lo peor de la sociedad española, incivil y antidemocrático.
El rey no ha sido elegido por nadie, y su trabajo de Jefe del Estado es como el de un notario. Tampoco merece tantos aplausos, ni tampoco abucheos.
