what comes out of her mouth when she sings is like what you would hear from a banshee, but then during interviews she just sounds like the sweetest person ever
She really is. Best memory being a freshman at the U and the cool kids at the radio station took me to a show at the Cabooze. She just came right up and and said " Hi! my names Kat! Whats yours? " So nice, and I'm thinking Go-Go's / Bangels kinda night. She excused herself to go on stage and screamed that scream, nearly dropped my drink. They tore to roof off. :)
Omg so much kat footage I haven't seen before! Got to see more of her personality from the 90s than ever before. She was actually really funny and sweet. Love her!
I was a 90s youth and deep into alternative rock/indie/ punk rock and out of all the great bands I loved at the time if I had to put a top 3 list it would be Melvins, Babes in Toyland and Nirvana. With Bikini Kill probably a close 4th. Kat's vocals resonated deeply with how I felt back then. It wasn't just screaming for me. Her vocals on Ariel or the live version of S.F.W. on the Sweet 69 single somehow touched me and made something deep within with like no other rock vocalist ever could. Also loved the drums and guitar work and song structures.
Goodness I love this woman. . . I remember being in High School and being so upset that Babes in Toyland didn't get the same attention that other bands in that 'genre" were getting. They were better than at least half of those bands and had such an interesting and genuine writing style (Kat) that they stood out to me so clearly. I only was able to see them live once due to the fact they didn't tour as frequent as more popular bands did and the fact that I didn't have my license yet when they first came through. But the time I did see them at the TLA on South Street, in Philly in 1995 ( the show is on RUclips: ruclips.net/video/MF8gwsdk6JI/видео.html&ab_channel=markitaneight ), I was able to meet Kat, Lori & Maureen. I was absolutely smitten with Kat and she was an absolute sweetheart to me, this little 17 year old boy with eyeliner on just in shock that I'm meeting one of my favorite musician/artists ever. I always used to call her the female Kurt Cobain, not because she sounded like him per say, but because she had her own style of playing guitar and it was just full of beautiful pieces that were a mix of little grimey, dark guitar solos but not in a cheesy way. . . and these riffs that were heavy, distorted & yet still beautiful and unlike anything I've heard any other guitarist do. Kat truly has been overlooked for her ability on guitar and how genuine and unique it was, at a time where so many other bands were coming out with the grunge/punk explosion/revival. I really wish they were able to have given us another album or two. Nemesisters was such a evolution for them and you could tell they were on the precipice of a new chapter for their music and Kat's genius. I still have a crush on her after all these years too, lol. She's beautiful, not just in beauty but in spirit and artistry. Definitely one of the greatest of my generation.
The Leonard Cohen part is hilarious! I love Kat, absolutely kick ass. It’s crazy to be an adult now and see that CL really did steal Kat’s entire look, even down to the hair being a stringy doll look, takes effort. 🤦♀️ Poor Kat.
