    Stories for sure!!Nice job bringing her in. That marina told us a few weeks ago our 5ft draft wouldn’t fit. Off we went to South Jersey. We sat three feet off the dock sitting on the bottom. Once the tide came in we pulled ourselves to the dock. Wind blew the water out of the marina and low tide. Next day weather was beautiful for an offshore run.

    Looks like you are at Utch’s marina. Great place! I’ve been in there several times and I appreciate what you had to negotiate to get in safely. Great job Captain! Definitely check out the Lobster House, a short walk from the marina. Best of luck on the rest of the journey!

    Great Job Paul
    If possible, it's a short walk through the dry dock yard to the 102-year-old Lobster House. Great food!

    OK Paul, what year is this boat and how many hours on it that the rubber in the dampener failed? How hard will it be to find this Detroit part ? It might be something we should ALL look more closely at on our own boats or while shopping!! A survey probably would NOT find this!

    • @deamengers474
      @deamengers474 2 месяца назад +1

      The survey didn’t find this. It’s a 1981 Hatteras 58 Long Range Cruiser. (We got married in 1981) My husband had a list of must haves and the engine topped the list. Parts should be readily available and reasonably priced.

      @@deamengers474 Thanks for your reply! I have been looking at an LRC with the 4-71s. I would guess this component is shared between the two and because of your misfortune, I now know to closely look at this and to buy a spare or two! Good luck with the remainder of your journey. Thanks!!!

      @@rusty9129I don’t know anything about the 4-71. We have 6-71’s. I met the brother of a friend who is a diesel mechanic recently. He especially likes the 70 series; whatever that is. Decide on the engines you want first then narrow down your ideal boats.
      The previous owner had the boat about 17 years. He took care of it well but it spent the last several years on the hard. We knew we would be investing blood, sweat, and tears (and money) into it. Because it has the right engines, we knew it was worth the investment.

      @rusty9129 2 месяца назад +1

      @@deamengers474 Detroit Diesel (GM) had a very simple nomenclature system: You have 6-71s. That means - 6 cylinders and 71 cubic inches per cylinder. So the 4-71 is 4 cylinders. There's the 4-53s, the 8V-71 (so 8 cylinders in V formation, 71 cu in each), and so on! Now you know!!

      @@rusty9129 so the 70 series that the mechanic got excited about would be your 4-71 and our 6-71?
