Cool video thanks for the shout out :) yes using alphas feels like cheating at times. I think they can look a little stale as well. Best to adapt them where possible and use them more as a guide and starting point :)
I don't think it is cheating at all. It takes skill to use alphas correctly; If you don't know what you are doing you could just as easily screw your model up instead of improving on it.
The Zbrush one looks way more Natural. but here's the thing about Blender. if you Sculpt in it like Niko "Speedchar" does, it is *SO MUCH BETTER* than pulling super dense lumps of digital clay around, or using Dynotopo. you get a "Feeling" for the shapes much easier.
Zbrush and Blender actually work together well! More like an alternative to Maya rather than ZBrush. Kinda awesome to think though that Blender (which is not a sculpt focused tool) is compared to ZBrush (king of sculpting, no contest). Shows that Blender has come a long way! Nice video!! Subbed.
Agree here. Some functions in Blender are way better than ZB, like being able to scale things like CAD software which I use for jewelry. But there are some tools and talents that only ZB can do...I use both. I'm taking a long break from ZB so I can better learn Blender. What I love about Blender is that I can render my work right there. in the same shed.
@@GooDogProductions haha same. Blender's Cycles is so fast and easy to use. I use Blender for my renders too. Wish I could try Marmoset but it's expensive. I've seen the comparison and it's faster and better than Blender's.
@@devilik3692 Blender is free, has a huge community, tons of free and paid tutorials, it does a lot more than ZB, ZB can handle more resolution, if you want to sculpt models with an insane amount of details, ZB is the way to go, ZB also has somewhat better brushes, both Blender and ZB are well suited for 3D printing!
@@gcharb2d thats pretty much what i understood zbrush better details and sculpting is only thing that interests me because everything else is not needed to 3d print model. it also has steeper learning curve than blender? which one is easier to learn assuming i dont know either ?

Thanks! I agree with you... It was definitely not a competition between the two of us. It's mainly for entertainment purposes with some zbrush and Blender comparisons.
At first, I liked the zbrush one better but when he started using the alphas my eye gravitated to that dragon more, it's probably because I think of 3d printed models mostly with this stuff and that one looks like it'd look better at a 3d print.
@@BattleBrotherCasten I honestly found myself wanting/ needing more tools so I upgraded to the full version. It's good for entry level tinkering but if you want more in your toolbox and cross-between programs you definitely need the full ensemble.
What i am confused about is there is to compare the tool and there is also to compare of the process which is more about the way to approch sculpting, so here i do not see really where would Zbrush shine compared to Blender... which to me is good topic to talk about.. I start sculpting in blender i love it but unsure about switching to Zbrush i get so confortable with Blender
If you are new to sculpting, give Blender (free) or Zbrush Core Mini (free) a try. Zbrush is $900. Blender is more powerful than Zbrush Core Mini, however ZBC Mini is super easy to pick up and learn.
i eventually want to use zbrush in the end or after a year would learning blender now because its free waste my time where i have to relearn the tools again once i pick up zbrush?
It will not be a waste of time. All of the foundational skills you are learning in regards to sculpting will transfer to Zbrush. How to use the brushes in Blender will transfer as well, they will just be called new things. The largest hurdle (other than price) will be navigation and UI.
Everybody is different, but I've had zBrush for many years, and just its UI and navigation has been why I haven't learned it. I've recently started learning Blender (I've been a 3DS Max user for 20 years) and am learning to sculpt in Blender and it is sooooooooo nice and easy (I still can't sculpt but it's no longer the UI or the navigation as the problem, it's just practice). So, I opened up zBrush a couple of times just to see if I felt any more comfortable now I know a bit more about sculpting and the answer was still NO! I STILL feel lost and overwhelmed in zBrush due to its interface, and the many, many buttons and options. Maybe in a few more years time :) AlHowell is right, 100%.

While this video has more detail in the Zbrush sculpt, we were not comparing that. I do know that blender starts to slow down way faster than Zbrush in terms of polycount
