I never know why the long nails don't break when you touch anything. You have to be really really careful with long nails.
I LOVE leggings for shopping and running around town. Never will give up leggings.
Thanks for all the options. I appreciate your efforts. ❤️
I’ve a big bust a striped shirt or jumper exaggerates the size. Love them but not suitable.
If you go to these sites, I know because I have, the sizes are smaller. If a woman has a 54-56 bust it won’t fit. I bought 3 X pants , when they came in they wouldn’t even fit my granddaughter. She’s not big.
Old is bad? I am so tired of this…. In a blink of an eye, we shall all be dead and gone. And we are worrying about looking old? It’s exhausting…
I’m not here because I’m worried. I was just interested in her tips… and I like reading peoples comments. I couldn’t care less about what people think of me. I dress for myself… And I like feeling nice and comfortable in what I wear. Clothing is an easy outlet for me to be creative too.
@@rainbows_trees_clouds_dais1766 I agree that fashion is a creative expression -but she titled her video to get views because she is playing on our culture’s obsession with women looking young.
Then don’t worry about it! It’s not a command from on High😀
I think you're taking it too seriously. I actually started laughing when I saw the first tip with the mean principal from Matilda, as I sit here with my hair in a bun, lol! But, it's very hot and humid today and I put my hair up when I workout. Take it with a grain of salt, and do whatever you like.
@@rainbows_trees_clouds_dais1766 i also think that if you love yourself in a healthy way and you are tuned in you naturally choose items and styles that fit you.
All those models shown were slim and young. There were no models who were senior, with a weight issue, therefore those of us with a rounder torso, still don't know what style clothing would look the most flattering.
The badly fitting bra model was heavier.
RIGHT But we know what not to wear. Some of them are spot on.
So very true!
Never ever wear skinny jeans
Bring someone with you when you go clothes shopping. Think about the parts of you that you like and accuntuate those.
Some stores have personal shoppers. Ask if a store that you like has them. They'll probably be the upscale ones, though. However perhaps there may be a mid-range store with one.
Thank you for calling out the horrid, overdone claw-like nails! They look so cheap & tasteless - even on the most beautiful woman they are gaudy and crass.
Agree!
And those man-shaped square nails-yuck! You never saw that horrid shape until they came out with these fake acrylic nails and I think it’s just easier for the nail technicians to just chop them off Square but they look awful. They’re not feminine..
Yes...they are
They look like cat's claws, nice on a cat not us!
@@jannawalters232 Ugly talons.....
In addition to dark eyebrows and eyeliner, I would add too long and thick fake eyelashes to your list.
Oh I forgot those 😅
Not a good look on anyone in my opinion..
IMHO they look ridiculous at any age.
I think thick fake eyelashes look bad on old and young. It makes you look cheap and not elegant. I wish young girls would see that the fact that they are young is beautiful enough. Appreciate what you have and make the best of your natural beauty if you need a little help but stay away from everthing that's too strong, too heavy and unnatural.
@@jannyhansum9716 some of these Faux eyelashes actually look as though humans are trying to become/look like an entirely different 'species' ie. Deer, Cows, etc. Those long fluffy eyelashes look great on them; they're supposed to, but that big and thick of lashes look stupid and ridiculous on humans
I worked with somebody who always said to wear the best coat you can find. Most people who see you in public see you wearing your coat. Doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive, just something flattering.
That’s fabulous advice
I agree. Where I live, we only have a few really cold days in winter so most people wear puffy jackets even with skirts. They're ok if you wear trousers or jeans but I never do. I bought myself a knee length coat in Italy last year, on sale and filled with genuine goose feathers, not poly. It was actually almost too warm but it looks so much better than an ill fitting, and they're all ill fitting, puffy jacket. I have a puffy and it was made with an open neck, go figure. I will have a seamstress add a loop and button because it wasn't cheap. But I have to wear a hat with it and that is the challenging part. I find berets very ageing, maybe because I have a large head and they tend to be too close fitting to look smart.
And for those of us in a warm climate, that info doesn’t work at all.
@@MGSpecial2023, especially in subtropical Queensland.
@@MGSpecial2023 I agree. The deep South is simply not trench coat territory!
As a nail tech. I completely agree with the nail art. Awful. Old money nails is best😊
Yes !!
YES - those horrid, psychedelic talons are hideously cheap-looking on anyone, at any age.
didnt know there was a name for this, so thanks. "old money" is exactly the kind of nail i have always preferred. i am 36 and i've come here to learn lol
I can’t imagine having beautiful painted nails with my old hands. I like my gray hair and I agree with everything she said. I do, however, like wide leg jeans as I have large thighs and I always have. Someone couldn’t pay me to wear skinny jeans. 😮
I wear what I am comfortable in no matter what’s in style. I quit caring during covid cuz I was comfortable with me…I haven’t dyed my hair since either snd it is wild .nothing worse than…may have to dye to calm down frizzy hair from 2 months of hospitalization from covid!
We petite women need the fashion industry to start making clothes that suit short women! Do you know how hard it is to find nice jeans that have a 27" inseam? It's almost impossible! Every coat has such long arms that we look ridiculous. Do they think every woman is 5' 7"? It's very difficult to find petite clothing in any of the stores. Ordering online is a nightmare, and I hate returning items. HELP!!!
haha my gramma has always been petite... hardly 5 foot she has had the same problems shopping
Me too….5’3” an have short arms and no waist. It’s a miracle if anything ever fits. 😳. It seems every retailer thinks we are all 6ft and weigh 5 stone!

Ladies wear what you like and be happy. Life is too short to worry about what other people think!
Absobloodylutely 🙌

Looking old makes no one happy..
I agree!
One thing I hate is the straight blow dried .hair look…it’s everywhere…
Thank you! I’m not a fashion maven, but a 75 yo sensible woman. I wear none of your 10 aging items, and now I understand why people act so surprised when I state my age. This is very good data for women!
Thank you for your valued lovely comment.
Dress like a French woman!
Me to, I agree
The best thing a woman can do for herself is get properly fitted for a bra. I learned so much from the lovely professional at Dillard’s. I was wearing the wrong size for years. What a huge improvement
It's so true. I finally got fitting help at Nordstrom. I was off by 2 cup sizes!
Very true !
Totally agree
Can’t find one here in my end of the world. I look so frumpy.
I had the same experience at Dillard's too! ( sweet sales lady Nicole at Midland Mall , TX.😘)
Ripped jeans with the knees out look ridiculous on ANY age!
Yes so so true
Amen
Oh I could not agree more ... or any ripped denim affect looks like you're an extra in a Dickens Drama for the BBC and dressed in Victorian rags ... eek! Horrors.
@@dyoung1492😂
70 year old women dying their hair green and getting a crew cut is ridiculous
Thankfully I don’t care what anyone else thinks. I live in my skinny jeans and will always pull my thick frizzy hair back into a bun or pony. But you are spot on about the bra situation!!
Skinny jeans forever.
I hate skinny jeans😂😂😂😂I love my baggy's❤❤❤
I swapped my skinnies for slim straight after gaining 10kg after menopause, the breathing room is a lot more comfy😅
I am a plus sized woman and the only department store near me only had "Old Lady Clothes"... butterflies, kittens, flowers, etc. It can be so frustrating to shop when you're a fluffy gal...
Ok darling I’m going to find some sites that have better options for you 🙏☺️
Now a person can’t even try on things. Mostly flowers and paisley is right. 😧 hard to be fluffy and stylish.
And OMG, the polyester! The horrible, staticky, plastic polyesters! Yuck!
It’s not a mystery why plus size women look frumpy. The choices they give us. Stripe’s do accentuate a larger figure.
@@brendazahner8257 NOT TRUE..THEY CAN BE LIKE AN OPTICAL ILLUSION AND PEOPLE WILL THINK ITS THE STRIPES MAKING YOU LOOK WIDE AND YOU ARE ACTUALLY SKINNY LOL
Life's too short to follow someone else's fashion rules. Wear what makes you happy and don't let other women tell you why you are doing it all wrong. Don't be told how to dress. We are all individuals. We all get older and we don't have to feel bad about it.
Yes
Yes. But good to get advice from someone who has good taste !! Be open minded.
Why watch and comment?
Not one person suggested that one should feel bad. I think what this very helpful attractive lady is trying to get us ladies to achieve is to feel good not bad. We deserve to feel good, We deserve to be told (sometimes on a daily basis ) wow!!!!! You look fantastic. or You have not aged in ten years, I met a very good friend of my son (Went to college together) I had not seen him in 10 years. I got such a complement from the heart, & coming from a 44 year old ,it did make me feel good. .Oh, & by the way I fully agree with you life is indeed too short. Make the very best of the life when we have it
If you don't want advice, don't watch an advice video.
I'm 65 and skinny. My black leggings work with many things that make me feel fabulous and on point. Just always careful with balance (never show the bum)
Sounds great
Yes, if you're thin you can get away with leggings because they won't show every flaw.
@@heleneg525 make sure with leggings u wear a top that is long, that camouflages the bum.. where I work, (theme park) I see women all day long wearing those laggings and their bum is hanging out!! ugggg its so nasty looking on older women!! even some younger women don't look good in them but, they think they look sexy!!!
Same. I am 65 and 5'2" weighing 95 pounds. I love leggings with long tops or tunics. I actually buy my pants, when I chose to wear them, from Garage....a store for teenagers. The clothes fit me MUCH better than those intended for seniors. They seem to think old=fat. I am just careful the styles I pick.
I believe you should wear whatever you feel good in. It's all about how you feel inside. There's older women who wear bold fabulously including earrings and skinny jeans. Let's be different, make a statement as for who and what you you are! We broke fashion trends in the 80s ...Why stop now? 😆
Am in my 60’s and wear floral dresses/mumus every summer! They’re all cotton & comfortable - don’t care who doesn’t like them.
Amen!
Same.
Great keeping rocking them
Sure you "rock" them. HAHAHAHA Grandma, please.
@@LillyBunnyBoo- ah, you’re just jealous 😂
Where what you like I say, your life , your choice, I’m 58 with 2 dogs, and I have loads of anoraks. I agree leggings are not the best, a time and a place for everything. Don’t let yourself be influenced by anyone, if your happy in your own skin, surely that’s more important, just my thoughts
You’re right of course. This is just for fun and some might find it helpful ☺️
Yep, you need to be dressed for the weather when you're walking the dog at all hours!
I live in the Highlands of Scotland, we don't have the weather for trench coats, warm jackets and anoraks as the only sensible thing 😁 Also I am sitting here watching this wearing the very same checked no no dress, oops.
I'm 57 and just bought my first anorak! I think it's so classic and functional for a rainy day in the spring. I had no idea anoraks are not stylish! I love trench coats, too, but they seem better suited for fall and winter (for me).
Some anoraks are stylish it’s true. If you love it then wear it. ☺️
I wear anoraks almost all year round, except summer, for practical reasons. I want the hood protection, because umbrellas/hats just don't work for me.
Trying to find a trench that doesn’t swamp me is impossible.
My anorak is not straight up and down but goes in slightly at waist to give shape. I love it.
I will wear anoraks no matter what. Trench coats are OK for going to the office or professional meetings, but it you just need to go for walks, or shopping, or driving, trench coats make no sense.
I agree with you totally . I also hate rainbow hair colours and thick fake eyelashes.
Not about the leggings. Leggings forever!
Thank you for watching
I love rainbow hair! I'm 46 and intend to do that! I've done what I've been told earlier in my life and now I don't care!
@@trekkie-cat If it makes you feel happy.... Then do it 👍. I've always had my own choice. ♥️
OH, YES, rainbow hair is a repellant, for so many reasons.
Here's the thing: if you are over 40 then wear what you like. Who cares if you look older. Isn't that the point of being older, not giving a flying fig?
Sure, but looking older than you are can also hold you back in your career.
Exactly!
@@ninagilliam9568Never held me back in anything. I have never had a problem getting a job. I am 63 and have grey hair, wrinkles, I haven't worn makeup since I was in my 30's, I can walk in anywhere and get a job and have. I don't understand people having to go to 100's of interviews before getting a job, it only takes me one interview.
I'm 30 years older than you, and agree with most things you say, except fleecy leggings lol. I wear them to walk the dog in the winter months and they can look very stylish if worn with the right accompliment. I'm always being told how young I look [ maybe they're just being kind ! ] At 85 I do spend quite a bit of time in my chair, knitting Disney jumpers for my great grand children, and jeans would be digging in my tum too much. x
Remember dressing in what makes you happy and comfortable at home is important. I wouldn’t be able to sit in my jeans either.
Your grandchildren are very lucky to have you 💖
Awww! I have seen many women even in their 70s wear skinny jeans and look fabulous! As long as you wear the right top . It could be a tunic or a long button down shirt.
Yes! Thank you!
Totally agree!
Only if you are really slim
Agree! ppl should wear what they want
My legs are the skinniest part of my petite apple body. I miss skinny jeans!
This made me giggle 🤭 as a 60 year old less is more, always ! Classic style all the way for me ( always has been ) 😜
I’m with you 😁
😅 I’m glad you enjoyed it So true Classics are always the best
Oh my gosh, I totally agree with everything . I actually have been revamping my wardrobe once again in my life and hopefully for the last time and every piece in my wardrobe is The Row because it’s classic simple, amazing quality, not body hugging in anyway and I don’t even have to try and I look amazing.😂😂😂
I so agree. If your happy what's the problem
Indeed 👍
I am 75 yo. Maybe we should all stop being so judgmental and let everyone do what they want. It is only fashion, hair, and makeup and they can all be changed. Have fun and enjoy what you do and what you wear no matter your age or size. Life is too short to listen to some RUclips video influencer.
I’m not being judgemental in fact I stated very clearly these were my own mistakes and to take it all with a pinch of salt.
Wear what u want ! It doesn't matters! As long as ur comfortable!😮😮😮😅😅😅...
So why were you watching this channel? Just asking…
I have been a lifter for 9 years, so my ass isn't sagging. I'll stay with my skinny jeans. Ladies - lifting weights is so important!
I need to get back to my weights for sure!!
Yes, as well as aerobic exercise each day! I speed-walk/run 5 miles (1.5 hours) each and every day, as well as doing 120 push-ups and lifting the 8, 9, and 10 pound weights 240 times EVERY SINGLE DAY. People think I am decades younger, and I feel stronger than in my 20s. I also eat very healthy food (vegs, fruit, whole grains, no meat) and do not smoke or drink alcohol. I take great care of my skin; all the work pays off.
@@nataliamiles7109Lots of free time on your hands?
@barbarat5729 LOL. Before I hit menopause that's how I was but post menopause at 48 it's getting so difficult to workout. Especially since I have spinal stenosis but even a little is better than nothing at all. You do what you can. Helpful tip for anyone. Practice core balance training...it's been a life changer.
I was in the exercises industry for 20 years, as well as a ballet and jazz dancer. Then I was in social services for 16 years...a lot of sitting and doing paperwork. But I continued to go to the gym, hike, cycle and ski. Hitting 60, things changed...I broke my back in a ski accident, got covid and was very sick for nearly a month, was diagnosed with leukemia, got covid again, and dislocated my shoulder/tore my rotator cuff in another ski accident. Fortunately I'm now in a job that keeps me physically active, but my body has suffered. I am a size 2-4 (depending on the pants, and my bum looks okay in skinny jeans...I enjoy wearing them with boots. In the summer, I opt for straight-legged cuts.
I appreciate a lot of your points, and so agree with the make-up and nails. At work I dress for ease of movement and comfort, and get compliments daily. I'm a very fast walker, and energetic despite the cancer, so a lot of people take me for younger than my 66 years. I know that I definitely need a proper fit for a bra but dread being fit by a 25-year old and don't want to display a body that's gradually succumbing to cancer. Meanwhile, I do plan to ski again, and I continue to hit the gym most evenings!
Thank you!
and ladies, stop dying your hair so dark! It doesn't look natural with your skin tone, and you're not fooling anybody....Get a good haircut and let your beautiful natural hair color come through.
Dull lifeless hair can make you look older; if you get the great looking white hair great for you; personally my grey hair looks like a skunk and not even that pretty; everyone has to do what makes them look good.
☺️
The all too common blond is aging as well.
What! You mean let your gray hair show through? No, thank you!
@@heleneg525I know!! I am definitely not one of those ladies who look wonderful in gray hair!!
If you've put weight around your torso like many women do after menopause, wearing horizontal striped jumpers will only accentuate that roundness. I tend to stay clear from horizontal stripes, vertical stripes however can be slimming.
Flared trousers look ridiculous too
Haircuts make a huge difference to how a woman looks. People tend to say to cut it short but I think that a little longer softens the face. Also stick straight hair as we age can also be so severe on an older woman.
Ëvery time I've cut my hair above my shoulders, I immediately look 10-20 years older.
I'm el cheapo on a lot of things, but a good haircut is priceless. I have curly hair, and the woman who does my hair specializes in curly cuts. Face-framing layers can make a world of difference!
Ask someone else what they think. You're own opinion may be wrong. Just because you like it doesn't mean you look older/younger.
@@MarshaPrice-ss7vt😊
I am 77 years old. Skinny jeans look good on me. I have long slim legs and it show cases that. Key is to wear the right top with it, a nice fitting but not tight blouse, half tucked in for instance. My hair is thick (lucky me) and due to life on a farm I often wear it up fastened with a clip. Prefer it down and styled though but have to keep it practical.
You sound perfect to me
I found a very light linen dress the other day but it's huge. Ok, I live in a very sunny place where Summer temps can get above 30° C pretty consistently so I was going to just wear it loose but I found a metallic silver belt in my closet that I never wear. I put it on and let the top blouse slightly over it. What a difference and I'm petite. If you find a nice very loose dress that you love, try a belt.
I'm 5' 0" . I just found a white linen shirt dress. Makes me look like I'm huge! But then I put on a khaki-colored belt and some matching shoes and voila! It looks great! I too live where temps get quite hot 100+ degrees F ...and on the other end well into the -40F in winter.
This is a perfect example of how to look elevated and stylish. Thank you for sharing
This is Perfect !!
Yeah, me too. It's tropical here. I try to find loose, but not too wide.
Leggings can be worn as pantyhose or tights with a knee length dress. They don't have to be worn as pants .
Yes that’s very true
I love wearing my leggings that way. I get so many compliments. 62 y.o.
When I see a woman who has discovered her style & her look, I think it is then that she looks her best. Not everyone is designed to be a classic. Some are the trend setters, the rule breakers & some pull it off and wear it well. I have plenty of anti-aging tips- one being to fill in sparse brows- doesn’t have to be thick or bold or dark, but aged eyebrows often make a woman appear much older than she is.
Thank you. You’re absolutely right and I value your contribution here.
I never understood the distressed denim trend. It looks like you can't afford anything nicer and it's not flattering on anyone.
Some rips are so excessive and extreme they should be thrown in the garbage but cost in excess of $200 😂
I COMPLETELY DISAGREE...I LOVE THE DISTRESSED DEMIN LOOK
Stupid trend with knees out is an overboard. look! Not for anyone over fifty!
Or, it looks like you were just assaulted and need to file a report at the nearest police station.
Got to say, I feel a coat with a hood is essential for commuting women in the UK. Thinning hair means I can’t risk hat hair (and would also get too hot); a folding umbrella will get ruined by the wind and a big sturdy one will end up left on public transport or in a restaurant.
You’re so right
I’m a strong believer that whether it’s makeup or clothing and the wearer is happy then it’s perfect! It’s about feeling happy in your own skin, especially in late 50s. The fashion industry has made us invisible (let’s face it, advertising on an 18yr old is not making fashion accessible) when there’s very few 50+ models out there. 😊
I completely agree with you and I did preface this with it’s for fun and that I’ve made these mistakes too. it’s also a sad fact that women feel stuck and lost, the brands do nothing to show realistic over 50 models or items of clothing that help a woman feel confident about her changing body shape.
@@FabulousOver50 It’s good we’ve started to speak out more about this. Wouldn’t it be lovely to see more older models being used!
I like the trench coat look too, but it is really for urban people who walk or take public transit to get around. A trench coat getting in and out of a car is ridiculous with the flaps, belt, vents, yards of fabric etc.. There are alternatives to anoraks though. They used to be called “car coats”! But hoodless, stylish jackets are out there.
Yes !
I switched to dark brown mascara and liner, softer eyeshadow color, and it doesn’t look so harsh. High quality clothes that fit and keep shoes clean. No kooky hair colors. Low loose pony tails are classic.
I totally agree!
Love these hints, it's hard to see yourself until a bad photo shows how much your body and face have changed through the years. I always love good fashion ideas not based on the most recent styles but just looking good!
I like this but disagree with the anorak. I live in the edge of Dartmoor, and a brolly would end up with me doing a ‘Mary poppins’ down here a decent jacket and sensible shoes are essential. Even for a trip to Waitrose! Up on the moor you need full on hiking gear.
I agree with you. Living on the North York moors and walking 3 or 4 miles several times a week, a good rainproof anorak is an essential, not a fashion choice.
Yes I think you most certainly need an anorak
I will keep my long hippie earrings and fun jewelry FOREVER! LOL!
Me too!!!!!!! Bohemian forever!
Yes please! Everyone looking the same is boring!
Here here! You guys rock on😎
You had me until the leggings. You will have to pry them out of my cold dead hands.
😂 ok you can keep them
I love them too! But always wear with the hip areas well covered. In winter only .
Leggings are not pants. I have always hated that women wear them in public. At home...yes. Showing off all your ass sets or whatever on the street is an absolute No No for me. I agree that for me and to me, it looks cheap and desperate. Why now wear the cute fitted pants that Audrey Hepburn wore. I have several pairs. They fit well but are not leggings.
I light leggings with a great top that covers a lot.lol
Leggings are absolutely not pants. Couldn’t agree more.
I agree except for leggings. I believe leggings are great when worn with a cute top that covers the bum.
If you love them, that’s all that matters. I agree about covering the bum though ☺️
I wear leggings over tights with a dress in the winter.
You wouldn't if you saw my elderly neighbor in NYC who wears leggings with Depends underneath! God love her.
Ive just come across your video and I love it! Good, honest, no messing advice but done in a friendly way. Im 56 and guilty of a couple of your points (not admitting which ones 😅) and I like how you explain exactly why these things aren't working for us ladies anymore, more tips please! X
Welcome aboard! I’m so happy you’re here ☺️ thank you for your comment
I'm guilty of wearing anoraks as it rains so much in Scotland! I'm trying to stop wearing my skinny jeans (I've got loads) and change to straight legs but the thought of having to shorten them is holding me back. I hate to see women of any age wearing high tight hairstyles because it will thin their hair. I love your channel and I'm so glad I found it 💗
I have to say I totally get anoraks in the northern hemisphere but I also think we can change it up too for something practical and stylish. I’m so happy you found me and you’re enjoying the channel ☺️
Sometimes anoraks and skinny jeans are the most practical choice. Skinny jeans slip comfortably in tall boots that are necessary in winter, without the crunched up uncomfortable and unflattering ankle tucking. And anoraks cover up our deflated bottoms. A trench coat is not an appropriate garment 90% of the time in a Canadian winter. Dress for your elements and lifestyle. 😄
Can I also add that heavy earrings on older women drag the ear lobe down. I can't watch that!
Oh yes!!
Oh boy, I was at a concert and saw a woman wearing a tunic like top with flowers at least 14” wide, it did her no favors.
I bet, No favors at all 🙄
If it made her happy, that's ok
I agree with everything except the trench coats. I don’t know what it is, I just don’t think they flatter anyone. It looks like you’re wearing a paper bag.
I’ll agree to disagree 😅
@@FabulousOver50I think a good quality trench that fits well is a classic.
I agree! They seem to only work on tall people. I also would never be fully covered in khaki color.
@@melissameza4032 My complexion is khaki colored, haha. I never wear beige but I was going to Italy last year and I needed a light coat. I found a "trench" in a Vintage shop but it is very chic with a beautifully detailed back. It's long and I wear a lot of long dresses. It has a hood that is edged with faux fur as are the cuffs. The faux fur could use a bit of freshening, tbh. The warm lining was missing but with a sweater dress and tights underneath, it was just right. A bright scarf takes care of the beige against my face. I'm far from tall but the coat is long and has a lovely flowy A-line shape. It was made in France.
Tie the belt at the back.
Agree with all of these. Also, matching earrings and necklaces are aging especially with a sweater set. That look was big in the 80s and 90s. The tone of jewelry is another consideration. Silvers and muted gold tones are less aging than rose and bright gold.
Anything twin set makes me shudder 😅
Matching jewelry can be elegant.
Matching earrings and necklace reminds me of childhood jewelry sets and playing dress up!😂
Jewelry should match your complexion and hair. I used to always wear yellow gold but now that my hair is silver, silver jewelry is much more flattering. For me, because I'm a light olive, rose gold would be better, actually.
Matching sets of jewellery give Shopping Channel vibes!!! 😂 only my opinion
Loved this and agree totally with each one!!
Having really short hair, I wore big earrings for years. A few years ago I switched to small, crisp earrings and love the lift. I recently tried on my old style and saw my face fall…. What a difference!
I was wondering if you were ever going to mention leggings! lol .. I own a pair to wear under maxi skirts ..but never as pants!! 🥴I have skinny legs and they look depressing. I’ll never understand why the leggings/skinny jeans became popular. The “box on sticks” look… or sausage rolls.. why?…. They have NEVER made anyone look thin.. unless you are a teen model. Some items DEFINITELY need to be left to the youth.
Enjoyed your candor! Stylists need to speak up and give advice instead of apologizing and trying to pander. Help needs to be given!!! Love this channel ..
Thank you so much for watching and for contributing to the conversation.
It’s a shame the designers, stores and brands are yet to catch up and show us models and styles that represent who we are today!
Why do we need to dress either old and dated or dress in ridiculous unflattering teen fashion that looks awful on our bodies. The industry needs a revamp! We spend a lot of money. We need more role models!
@@FabulousOver50 EXACTLY!
Like you I wear leggings under a maxi skirt. As for skinny jeans/jeggings - NO. Not if you want to look stylish and beautiful. Make up, like your clothes, also needs to alter as our face alters!
I agree. The “you do you, wear what you want” is a waste of time. Why bother watching it I see some comments here like that and I think, why are you spending time watching if you dont want to learn something?
@@Julia29853 You are so correct - why watch if you do not want to learn? One thing I learnt was do not wear baggy tops with baggy bottoms - it is so simple, and has made such a difference! I though because I was not an hour glass I should wear baggy tops - far from it, I think I look far more stylish with a shaped top.
I am a Jersey girl 50 yr old women and guilty of some of these. Lol 😆 also I wear leopard and glitter too.
😅nothing wrong with a bit of leopard 🐆
The mob wife look is in for spring, so you are good. Just soften it up for summer.
love my leopard, snakeskin, etc. In small amounts. former Jersey girl. way older than you😉
@@marilynackerman9185 what part of Jersey did you live?
Leopard spots can be so elegant. Watch Kim Novak in her leopard cape in the classic film Bell, Book, and Candle! I love wearing my silk leopard-spotted blouse with my black pencil skirts, and I love wearing my black leopard-spotted heels with elegant black trousers. I do not mix my leopards, though: just one leopard-spotted item at a time is enough, thanks. Less is more. I even have a leopard-spotted umbrella that looks so elegant with my black trench coat.
I think all these tips are good for anyone at any age, really.
Thank you
These are all good points!
If your hair is thin and greying, opt for a paler hair colour that doesn’t show the contrast between darker hair and pale scalp. A little powder to match your hair colour can really camouflage a see-through scalp.
Make sure that your facial skin is hydrated with something like hyaluronic acid before applying a very minimal foundation. Powder only the areas that might get shiny. Less is more.
Bronzer complicates your facial structure, like a topographical map. A simple, even complexion is best when you are already contending with wrinkles, sagging, and discoloration. Besides, why have a face that is darker than the rest of you?
When it comes to lips, soft, medium-toned colour is your friend. Nothing too brown, too red, too mauve, or too orange. Pinky/ peachy tones flatter.
If you want a dramatic look for an event, a makeup artist with a fabulous reputation for making her clients look good will make you beautiful. Watch and learn.
No one wants to be told, “Your makeup looks good”. Everyone wants to be told “You look good”. 😊
What a fabulous comment. Thank you
So funny! You are so right 😂😂😂 Love this video and you got me on the dark eyebrows, hair up with big hoops lol thank you
😬so sorry, that was me too, instant facelift too 😂
Dark eye brows & large hoop earrings are what got me too, lol. My eyebrows have gotten so terribly thin as I’ve aged, but surely I may be guilty of overcompensating when I fill them in. And hoops! Gosh, I love my hoops - gonna be harder to give those up.
You are so right with the leggings. I had a pair on a few months ago and walked past a full-length mirror and OH MY GOODNESS. I wanted to hide... good tips!
I felt the same not long ago. Thank you for watching
Skinny jeans and leggings look fantastic on me and I am not a size 8. Not everyone is pear shaped.
I find it crazy the way mature women refuse to stop with the dark, heavy undereye liner. It closes off their eyes. I guess they enjoy looking outdated and old.
It’s so aging
I think it must be a matter of habit. I never have done that, because I don't want to have to reverse the whole thing every night, but I do know something about needing to update my makeup for the skin I have now. 😢
They think it looks good because it use to. Some people never change their makeup or hair styles.
Susan Summers comes to mind when undereye heavy eyeliner is mentioned.
A 67-yo friend continues to really pack on the eye makeup. It does her no favors.
Leggings are a huge problem for young girls too. They don’t hide cellulite at all.
Finally found someone on RUclips who is not afraid to say what is true. I agree with you 100%
So happy you’re here ☺️
@@FabulousOver50 I'm here also!!!!!!!!!Would you believe I am still quite bohemian but also

Finally, someone said it, ALL. Thank you.
So happy you agree ☺️
OH NO, skinny jeans and trench coats look REALLY GOOD on me ! some florals ALSO look gorgeous on me ! baggy clothes and leggings too. i think maybe because i have always worn them and one can see i am the generation, demography and culture it originates from, so it looks authentic and not '' tryhard edgy '' like someone who wears things because they see it as a '' trend '' and not actually growing up in the cultures the styles hail from. i don't think one can say some of these things are bad for EVERY woman because women come in all different shapes and sizes and looks.
Thank you you’re right ☺️
Great video! I agree with everything you said. However, I am a lover of paisley prints - I try to only go for prints with very small paisleys, or a paisley border or something similar. I can’t give up paisley (even though I think you’re correct about paisley prints) or argyle prints. Thanks for all the great tips, and for presenting them in such a friendly way. 😍
Thank you so much for watching. I don’t hate paisley at all. I think the huge designs are simply not as flattering. You’re so welcome here ☺️
Well, the anti-paisley advice should be qualified that it applies to LARGE paisley prints or garments (such as dresses). Some well-done paisley prints in a quantity that is not overwhelming (for example, a small top with a solid color jacket) can look very good and enlivening,
I love paisley too as long as it's a smaller print. Have blue paisley 3/4 sleeve blouse I wear often, goes great with my blue eyes. Always getting compliments on it, even from younger women 😊
It’s funny the very things that are “outdated” come back in Who remembers when blue eyeshadow was taboo? I still wouldn’t touch it but it’s definitely in!
I wore blue mascara in the 80s, only on top lashes and never too thickly applied. Made my blue eyes absolutely pop. People would comment on how bright blue my eyes were 😆 Absolutely not now in my 50s 😄 Ahh fashion, always on a never-ending rotation 💙
Haha yes I had electric blue liner and eyeshadow 🫣😂 I don’t think I’ll be wearing that again anytime soon.
So true
@@katem3961 I always questioned the rule that blue eyes shouldn't wear blue shadow or liner. I'm 59 and still smudge some navy blue liner and it really makes my eyes pop. As for shadow, it depends on the hue of blue, but it can look great!
I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to say 'Leggings are not pants!" I agree about the 'old lady' prints, too. It's very hard to find swimsuits (except all black, which look awful on me) that are in decent colors and not in those loud, large floral prints. Thanks for this.
Leggings ARE pants. Pants are underwear in British English! I agree, leggings don't usually work as trousers.
@@flygrace :) Differences in British and American English!
😅
I want beads and style on my swimsuit. Not just frumpy swimdress for plus sz!
Paisley is one of my favorites. They are not big but they are tastful. I have one floral print top with big flowers, it's in muted tones and is just right if I am bloated. Stripes are a never wanted and never had item. Vertical stripes are tragic, emphasizing the width of your abdomen but horizontal are not as bad.
Good share thank you
I disagree. Generally, vertical stripes are elongating and make you look taller. Horizontal stripes makes you look wider and shorter.
Love paisley
Tommy Hilfiger has a great YOUTHFUL paisley print dress😂
Absolutely "spot on" advice. I think every item you touched on is accurate. I tried to wear leggings to work one rainy, chilly day with a tunic top and I felt frumpy and very "exposed" on the bottom. The other day I wore a more fitted outfit with some "genie"/tapered leg pants and got TONS of compliments. I am 58 and proud of my age and my position in life, so why not dress like I feel. Your video should be in every fitting room to educate women. I absolutely ABHOR heavy black eyeliner on top and bottom of eyes or inside the water line. Another pet peeve of mine is too much blush, heavy makeup, and overwhelming perfume. OLD OLD OLD. Thanks for your stylish advice. Keep it coming.
Thank you so much for watching ☺️
You are spot on with all 10 things! I am guilty of #1, and I am going to change my hairdo starting tomorrow. Thank you for making me see the light!
Thank you so much for being here and for your valued contribution ☺️
@@FabulousOver50 You're welcome. I'm so glad I found your channel!
Awww! I have seen many women in skinny jeans look fabulous. It all depends on what top is worn with it.
It does, that’s true
Only if very very slender
@@Julia29853 Or fairly fit.
I agree, well at least partly, since the looks also depend on the shape a woman has, Skinny doesn't fit everyone.
The right top with skinny jeans and leggings can look fabulous. I am 70 & very slim & petite
Love it, you are so brutally honest.
😅 it’s a fine line I’m treading. I’m so happy you liked it ☺️
@@FabulousOver50 It is so great to have someone like you effectively say out loud 'If you do not want to look 'old and cheap' then stop dressing like a 17 yr old'. I would say that women need to respect themselves and embrace their older bodies, and dress themselves to celebrate their age, not hide from it!
@@flower-ss2jt So true
You nailed the right point. We over 50-60-70 don't have to look like teanager. We dont even no need to look younger. The best for your mind and body is for us to look your own age and be happy for it. And look beautiful with care and good health.
I´m sewing a new garderobe for my new clothes, witch I cant find in the boutiques. Thank you for your tutorial. I liked it 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for your comment I completely agree ☺️
Leggings are worn by nearly most people in India by all ages. While they are worn with small tops here, Indians wear it under their long kurtas and so only the part below their thighs (half way) and knees show. Looks streamlined as opposed to the baggy salwars worn for hundreds of years. Everything depends on how u wear and style it.
That sounds great. I see too many people here in the US wearing leggings like pants - either their rear and thighs look like a sausage, or they look like a muffin with toothpick legs. Not pretty.
I agree, if a person wears leggings, it needs to be accompanied by a longer shirt.
Theyre a bit different, in a cotton like woven fabric, not like spandex or LuLu Lemons.
Thank you
My whole life, I loved my heavy makeup and black eyeliner. I never really planned on giving it up, but in the past few years, I don't care for the way it looks on me now at all. I'm 52, and I find it looks much nicer just to use eyeshadow as eyeliner.
Also, it can't be stated enough how important a properly fitting bra is!
Things just don’t look the way they used to on me now I’m 55. Heavy makeup makes me look older and dare I say hard. I much prefer softer makeup on my own face.
I feel the same way. I was never one to believe "less is more" until these last few years. It amazes me how much better I look with less now! It's actually liberating!
Just found you! You are so right! Just ordered a trench coat after watching this😅 Thank you😄
😂 you will never regret a Trench Coat 🙌🙏
The only one I disagree with is the Adirondack coat, especially for us that walk our dogs. I think a nice chore jacket or Adirondack can look very put together. Think.. a nice Barbour type coat.
Ahh yes you’re right I do like a Barbour jacket too!!
Totally agree with all these! Thank you for helping us as we age. My only struggle is not wearing baggy clothes as I don’t feel good about any part of my body except my hair which I get loads of compliments on now that’s it’s long.🥰
I’m so sorry to hear you’re not confident about your body. I get it though, I really do. I’m going to bring videos to help with that 💖
I will keep working out to not give up my leggings 😂. Great tips!
Yes! Thank you!☺️
mY QUESTION IS why would anyone Over the age of 15, wear ripped jeans. Go figure!!!
US size 4 and I have stopped buying skinny jeans as I see they emphasize long skinny legs. I like slim straight and boot cut jeans.
If you have the figure they look great. But slim and bootcut are Beautifully classic and timeless styles 🙌
Omg I just happened to come across this video as I am in a negative mood about my life and my looks!! I’m 68 but do look a little younger as I’m blessed with good skin. I’m guilty of about 8 of your list.
I’m now subscribed to your channel and look forward to hearing more!! ❤
Skinny jeans look and fit me way better than those supposedly wide or baggy frumpy jeans
Thank you
She said wear skinny jeans, not wide frumpies.
Amazing, we're starting off strong. Hair pulled up into a tight bun on the top of the head is my region's traditional, folkloristic hairstyle (called "Kutz"). We need it to put our cap / bonnet (Betzel) on top, and even if it makes me look 379 years old, I won't wear my hair in any other way 😄
That’s perfect 😊
I so sgree with everything you say. I'm 71, short, heavy busted and a bit lumpy in the wrong places! Finding clothes that suit and flatter me is a nightmare. I feel and look so much better in a lower, wider neckline but so many clothes have higher necklines that emphasise the vast space between my chin and bust!!
I do have to wear a coat with a hood though as i spend much of my life stopping my hair from frizzing up in the damp!!
It’s as though we are invisible to the designers after 50,60,70
Sister, you're so very right! Although I don't know that I'll ever give up my eyeliner BUT I don't do anything dramatic with it like you were saying. I'm turning 42 this month and I'm very cognizant of what works and what does not. Mostly it's from noticing the dont's on others... Oh and you'll never catch me in floral printed anything! 😂
😅 thank you so much for watching 🙌
All my life, I have been wearing brown eyeliner. Just for a change, I tried black eyeliner, and what a difference; it really defines my olive eyes. Who knew? I am 66, but I do not have any wrinkles or sagging skin, so that is probably why the black eyeliner works.
You make so much sense, I have only just seen your channel and absolutely love it. Growing up with Italian women I was always told things that make you look old and cheap. People should not be offended but grateful for good advice. I will be watching all your videos now, I think they are brilliant ❤

You have hit on all of my pet peeves thank you for validating them all for me. x
😄 you’re welcome
Dear Sally Atkins, I'm a new subscriber of your channel, 62 years of age with never-dyed hair. All ten points you mentioned are so true indeed. It's a bit like "Mutton dressed as sheep".😉🐑🙃And there are so many more faults, ageing a woman so very much, which are, e.g.: Women wearing tight mini skirts and shorts looking like a sausage pressed in its peel, and that with cheap-looking high plastic wedge heels, tight belly-free tops, tight leather skirts or leather trousers when obese, cheap-looking plastic handbags, and finally as an addition to this "style", dirty finger nails, smoking and bad manners in public. Your post is the best one I have ever seen on RUclips, kindly, genuinely and honestly talking about these many "Do's" and the cosmetic or fashion "Faux pas" when you are getting older being a lady. Already now, I'm looking forward to seeing your weekly new posts. Kind regards from Dublin,
Susanne Suschka Soyka.🙋♀️😃🌷
Hi☺️
Thank you for subscribing and your comment, I’m delighted you enjoyed my video. 🙌
I agree with most of what you are saying. One thing I would add to the list is to make sure your tops are not too long. As I live in a bigger body, I have to wear a large size, and they are not made for shorter, wider people. I have to adjust mine so that it doesn't end half way to my knees. It is simple enough to shorten a top, even by hand, and it makes a huge difference.
Yes you’re so right! That’s great advice
Same problem I have noticed. And all that extra fabric is not flattering for us short plus gals
I agree with everything you said ! 😅
😅 I’m so glad
Anoraks are practical for those of us keen on hiking, equestrian activities etc. Trench coats and umbrellas not so much.
Yes absolutely. That’s what they’re created for. This is about style for everyday not activities ☺️
Bravo! Well said.
Not only did I agree with everything listed in this video; I've never been guilty of any of the ten!
Fantastic video and tips ! As an American woman in my 50s living in Paris, I've completely changed my style and can vouch for all these caveats !
Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for telling us hard truths.
I’m sorry 😬
No one’s parting me from my leggings 😂
Ok, ok you can keep them 😂
Looks ridiculous on older, heavy women.
Rock it bby!
Like a breath of fresh air! So true. I have seen a lot of women with hair thinning on the sides in a topknot dyed black. I agree except I’m keeping my anorak but it’s a little slimmer than most. Would add giant eyelashes & overfilled lips. And also the worst- big print pajamas!
😊 thank you for commenting
Absolutely agree! Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Totally agree I see these things every time I go out and always think some people don’t have mirrors. Hate hair pulled up tight even on younger girls it looks like they make no effort and they don’t care about themselves. Leggings and exercise clothes are the new uniform but should be worn when exercising not to go shopping or out for lunch, I hate them. Stick to the classics don’t listen to shop assistants who say “that looks great” they are paid to sell if someone tells me that and I see a mess in the mirror I’m outta there. 😅😂 Got lots of giggles watching this thanks😂😂
I couldn’t love this comment more😅 Thank you, you totally get it! 🤷♀️😂
If You’re had a dime for every time a saleswoman told me ‘you look terrific ‘ or ‘that outfit was made for you’ , I could retire 🤣🤣, I only trust myself or a good friend
Yes I agree... i hate legging and exercise clothes...in any occasion..
Talks about #9 menopause tummy and extra pounds, says find your shape, then proceeds to show images of very slim women in outfits 😂
I agree but Trying to find models that are our age and shape is an ongoing struggle. This is what we are up against and this is why I do what I do to help women feel relevant and modern.
Hello, thank you for your video I was making a lot of these choices because of the weight and comfort. I started going to the gym and I have purchased lots yoga pants or leggings in the past. I don’t really look that good on them I’m almost 5,3” tall and have about 30 lbs to lose. Should I keep wearing those lagging to the gym or you have any other suggestions to look younger and better?🙏😊
