I wish all of this existed in the 2000 to 2010 time frame. I also wish I could go back and explain to my younger self what it is the workforce actually values as far as practical actionable knowledge, and how very different that is from anything you get from 99% of colleges. I'm not saying you don't get anything that is actionable and practical for work from a college degree, because you definitely can, but so much of that is stuff that you learn and teach yourself. It's how you translate the theory of knowledge and make it actionable yourself

The grand majority of their courses require the submission of a project such as a paper or PowerPoint presentation as their final assessment, few have final exams. If you know the material you can push through the course quickly and work on the final assessment

Hey Clifford, I just wanted to let you know that the attention your channel is getting can have an adverse affect on the colleges that you shout out here. UMPI appears to have 900 applications as they are a tiny college with a 5 person admissions team. It may be worth coming up with a strategy on how to mitigate the essentially a DDoS attack on these colleges. Love what you do and glad I found your account. UMPI has been great so far.
I hope UMPI doesn't shut it down or change it for the worse with all of the attention. Maybe other colleges will get the hint and start copying them so they aren't the obvious choice.

I have a bachelors in Nursing. But not an RN. Iv always wanted to shift into business related jobs and very interested in topics related to finance, real estate, stock trading, forex trading, private equity, hedge fund, entrepreneurship, etc. Basically acquire knowledge to full proof my future. My end goal if not running my own business, i would want to be trading stocks or forex trading.. I don’t see myself working for someone else my entire life. So to start with should i enroll in BS Finance, or just enroll to MBA as starting point to get the credentials under my name. And learn other skills necessary for the task needed in the future. Per se technical skills, perhaps learn to code later on and etc.. i’m quite confused or how i would kickstart this new journey.. i hope i could find a good road map. My background, i work in the healthcare field in administration & absolutely hate the healthcare field.
Go for the MBA 😊 It will add the credentials, and then find streams of information to tap into so you can start learning more about the nuts and bolts of the market. Study.com has a number of classes you can take outside the MBA if you want to learn specific things, or brush up on business concepts before starting the masters. Also, update be curate your LinkedIn so you can get plugged into your new industry 😄
I'm 62 and I want an accredited doctorate degree before I go... I have about 3 credits from a jr college. I will work with ya'll when I can afford it. But what can I do with Sophia now. Also, I'm worried about the writing part but it's something I want to learn. What school has a good class on writing for someone with no writing skills?
Start with a Sophia.org subscription and take all their english classes to get yourself practicing and up to speed :) Someday you’ll be writing a 200+ page dissertation 😋 If you search on Degree Forum, there are some free equivalency charts floating around out there for UMPI!
Yep, as long as you have a GPA above or around 3.5 and good reasoning for entering the graduate program you'll have a good time getting accepted into a master's or doctoral program. One thing you may want to consider however is that since Sophia is pass/fail that will likely mean the other GPA-graded courses you take will be weighted more heavily. Just something to keep in mind.
Thank you for all of the information! I wonder if you could specifically talk about Charter Oak - why is it not a favorite? What are classes like there (self paced ?) I like the way their web site is very clear on what classes are required for their majors are and how to earn credit through CLEP, DSST etc. Maybe I’m missing something because they seem very hack friendly.🤷♀️
Credits transfer from international school. I am citizens US now and I want to transfer my 4 years course from my country university. Whatever the NACES agency (usually Wes) evaluates your foreign transcripts as being worth is what colleges will use them for :) So it depends on what they say! But if you want to use the most transfer credit possible towards a US degree, look into the YourPace Liberal Studies Management degree at UMPI :)

Yes, u can. Harvard offer online bachelor in liberal arts, the only issue it is very expensive and difficult to enter, but with a transfer it is possible, I think.
Have you guys ever reviewed Penn State global campus or will you in the future? I'm finding it hard to find online/fast track programs for art based majors like graphic design or UX and this school is one of the 4 I've found.
There are so many better schools with kinder transfer policies that we haven’t really touched them. If you look up their transfer policy they basically charge you everywhere they can (eval fee for incoming transcripts, tuition increase when you transfer in 60 credits, etc). And they don’t have open ACE acceptance policies, which usually isn’t good. But you’re right, it’s tough to find CBE/hacking friendly arts programs for some reason. What are the other 3 schools you’re looking at?

@@aroca3380 Oh, it's online on Sophia, just like the lecture :) The biology class on Sophia is 3 credits, the separate lab class also on Sophia is 1 credit. It's done through a software, sort of like a video game, so you drag things in the virtual lab across the screen and whatnot!

If your goal is to be a therapist, you’ll need licensure at the masters level. Best to spend the least time and money on the undergrad step (UMPI Psychology is a great one) and put that toward the MA. You got this!

How do people finish Spanish on Sophia in under a week. One week in I'm halfway through two courses but i will say they graded my first touchstone under like 2 hours. I hope umpi gets those back than fast

It says that they accept 56 elective credits. If I’m understanding this correctly can I just take random classes at Sophia and get all of my credit for electives?

Oh, odd! Sometimes you slip up when you're recording live. TESU is quicker than many, but UMPI is the quickest of all. And, yes, your final question is mostly accurate except that UMPI relies more on projects than exams.

You can use whatever courses for your elective at Sophia or straighterline. Use study for upper level.
Indeed! Just make sure you hit 24 credit hours of ULs OUTSIDE any that might be included in the minor. That’s a graduation requirement :)
What does Chipotle degree mean?
It means a build-your-own major. This is a concept a lot of schools offer but few people realize it!
