Eyewitness recounts seeing the Bayesian super yacht sinking as coastguard search continues

- Karsten Borner, the skipper of a boat that had been moored alongside the Bayesian and whose crew found some of the survivors on a life raft and took them on board, said the yacht flipped on its side soon after the storm hit and sank within two minutes, giving those below deck little time to get to safety.
Italian coast guard flew over the search and rescue area near Palermo on Tuesday (August 20) after a luxury yacht sank off the coast of Sicily during an intense storm.
The coast guard deployed five patrol boats, a helicopter, and divers from its Naples and Messina Underwater Units, according to a statement. They also used a remotely operated underwater vehicle.
One man died and six people are still missing, including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, after the Bayesian, a 56-meter-long (184-ft) sailboat, was hit by a ferocious storm on Monday (August 19), sinking in a matter of minutes.

The vessel allegedly sank in a sudden Tornado type storm, but these witnesses were just standing there watching. That's a world first.

That huge mask must have hit the bottom of the sea and worked as a huge crowbar....the yacht was 56m long and the sea there is 50m deap...the length of the mask looks longer than the yacht....who the hell designed such a thing.....! Ps I like this old surfer dude....
It looks like if get knocked over with such a huge mast , would need to jettison that mast almost instantly , there no way the boat could right itself , with water dragging on the mast structure. Explosive bolts at base of mast and let it off to the bottom. I'm sure sailors captains in the know are sure what happened.

Why is this yacht getting to much media time? We don't care.
No one can predict where any storm will hit that yacht was anchored in the wrong place and wrong time, happens all the time some are destroyed while someone fifty meters away will survive, like the other yacht. It's a sad ending, seems like they got the brunt of the storm 2 minutes is not much time to get out especially if water was rushing in .the survivors can count themselves lucky. No one will really know what went down especially when you are tossed hither and thither at 330 in the morning. It's every man for himself. Its just a sad ending, no one is to blame as the time they had to be of any help was too short.
