I've walked the Great Wall, and let me tell you, cameras do NOT capture how brutally steep some sections of the wall actually are to climb. They are, without question, the steepest inclines I've ever had to scale in my life, and so to not only be running a marathon across the Wall, but with a torn ACL-my man, you are another level of human.
Awesome recap of one of the most challenging but memorable days of my life!! I still have no idea how you finished the first 14km so fast - it was insane. God my whole body hurts now - 2 days later. You should be so proud of your achievement despite injury - you were killing it up there in the wall. Onwards and upwards to more fun adventures Jord!
Hey Jord, watched to the end, incredible adventure you had there, those views were out of this world. You pushed your hardest and made a victory, even if it wasn't the victory you were originally aiming for, it is still epic, kudos to you. The hardship will make the story and the satisfaction even more glorious when you return and smash it next time!
I just returned from China and loved it. Make sure U don't just do the marathon but take time out to travel some of the country and meet the people. U might just find that inspiring people and places in China might give U that little edge to complete the marathon next time.........I didn't get a chance to get to Tianamen Mountains but I have seen the photos and beauty of this place in RUclips videos. There is a cable car which reaches a place called " stairway to heaven" or something like that. Many stairs but inspiring beauty.........I guarantee visiting that place will give U the edge U need to complete the marathon next time.
honestly mate... a marathon on the great wall is like something that would be done in an Ironman event in a triathlon... its a high endurance event ..way beyond the physical scope of most athletes... you did so well to get as far as you did.. .. I think had it been a normal marathon you would have finished no problem .
Sorry but you don't even run on this thing...it's not a marathon it's a huge and permanent pain in the....!! And 42 km in those conditions are simply demential in my opinion...for everyone even the most prepared ones. And without saying about the consequences on your body parts
@@baltimore1300 yes.. agree totally .. serious questions must be asked about the organisers of this event .. who thought that this would be a good idea.. its absolutely crazy to think people can run a marathon on this
baltimore1300 if you have ran several marathons under 4 hours, and know how to pace yourself, especially on those stairs, then I think it is manageable without injury. For casual marathon runners, it looks like injury is inevitable and shouldn't be considered.
Incredibly well done Jord. Really inspirational and you have my respect for this. Can't imagine how hard that must have been. First you climbed a mountain, and now a great wall. Excited to see what you do next! Congratulations man. This is no small feat! You should be really proud of what you've achieved!
Welcome to China! 42km treacherous climb on the great wall is definitely harder than people can imagine, so amazing you made that far as a first-timer.
Love this video. You don't need to be frustrated. You were doing great. Based on your knee's condition. Half marathon on the great wall has already been a great accomplishment.
Just went to the great wall in March this year, i had NO idea how steep that thing was. Its so intense that even in cooler weather and free range, we could barely make it. Great job this is awesome.
Jord, you are an inspiration! Please don't let this get you down. You have inspired myself and thousands of others to follow their dreams and I am truly awed by your enthusiasm for life. Most people would never even consider trying to run a mile, let alone a marathon with a TORN ACL! I will always grateful for the advice you gave me early on in my RUclips journey to just try to keep improving. You are a living example of that. Thank you for not only talking the talk, but for walking the walk of positivity and perseverance. 🙌🤙
Wow! Amazing effort. I understand your emotion - I trained and trained to walk to Everest Base Camp, but got AMS and was helicoptered out and never made it. The emotion that surrounds you in this situation is intense. But you can never ever fail doing something like this - what you achieved was incredible and you should be super proud of yourself. I am off to the Great Wall at the end of this month - I never realised how steep some of the sections are until I watched this. You are a legend xx
You didn't make it this time Jord, but I'm sure you've inspired many people watching this to attempt this marathon on the Great Wall. I know I'd love to give it a go with you on your next attempt.
Hey jord! I'm gonna say that you're doing the right thing to listen to your body. Knowing your own limit is the hardest thing to do. I've been there, it's "only" 10k race. I'm pushing my limit because i just following somebody's pace and not listening to my body. Suddenly i'm collapse 500m before finish line. It's stupid. And i'm learning from it. Until now i've done 2 full marathon but still trying to finish an ultra trail race that i dnf in 2017. I'm agree with you not finishing something that we started is sucks. But it is what makes us want to get better too. I believe in process. We'll get there jord, keep on training and run happy!
I participated in the 2018 Half marathon, unless you train doing hours upon hours of running stadium steps you will probably still feel this challenging course
Thanks for your video sincerely ! When I was a kid, my parents used to take me to the great wall. I still remembered after 3 hours of hiking, my feet back was full of blisters and I couldn't even walk. It was a nightmare for a kid I have to say. So I really wholeheartedly understand how challenging and difficult for running a marathon on TGW. I was deeply inspired and encouraged by your spirit. I really pick up the courage once again for keeping challenges myself to overcome the difficulties I met at college and keep pursing the life I want after watching your video. Thanks again and hope you can finally finish the marathon someday.
Just to try this insane race is worth respect buddy. Even though you see it as a failure it is still a great success and I believe it will make you much stronger. I am looking forward to seeing you finish marathon in some of your future videos 💪🏻
You gave it your all my dude. You got to stand on a wonder of the world and have an experience that maybe 5 percent of the world experiences! Be proud of it all!!
THIS was awesome! You looked great despite how you felt. As a runner myself I appreciate how you felt and I thought your emotional vulnerability was inspiring and beautiful. You SHOULD be proud of what you accomplished and I hope that if you truly want to go again and finish, you get the opportunity. Thank you for sharing your truest self.
Hi from Malaysia 😍 U took the many nice scenes of The Great Wall while running to complete your race! It's okay, next year u can do it for full marathon! Looking forward to your videosss
DUDE YOU ARE SO AMAZING RUNNING, CLIMBING RUNNING WEAVING AROUND OTHERS WHILE HOLDING THE CAMERA THE WHOLE TIME! !!GREAT STANIMA!! YOUR AN INSPIRATION!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR AWESOME ADVENTURES! LOVE YOU BRO!
You did awesome! Don't be hard on yourself. I am shocked you did as much as you did with knee issues. I am a runner with patellar maltracking and stairs are the enemy. You did SO MANY. I can't believe you got as far as you did. ell done, be proud!!! You pushed through.
Amazing achievement Jordan. You should be proud of your self doing a half marathon on one of the toughest courses!!!! I run and looking at this video I would have given up running the half. Again well done mate👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Dude you never stop inspiring us! I've been lugging my running shoes around SE Asia for the past six weeks; if you can do this, I can put them on and get back to running haha! Amazing achievement though, you may not have completed what you set out to do, but what you did takes serious guts and dedication. We're damn proud!
Well done! It’s one of the toughest marathon in the world! I’m in the same mind set like you when I twisted my ankle at Mont Blanc marathon! I had to limp 10 miles to get to the finish line! It took me more than 9 hours to finish the race! Just like you I will go back there in a year or two for redemption
Thanks for sharing your experience Jord. What matters is that you gave it a go and gave it your best effort! Really touched by the raw emotions you showed there. You did well mate!
Jord, what a marathon! I know it's hard for you to not finished as you wanted, but I really happy that you still finished what you've started until the finish line. Goodluck in your journey and prep, hoping for the best next year you will finish as Full Marathon finisher! Finger crossed 😁🙏
Great attempt, listened to your body...so important. Ran 4 years after knee scoped as new runner..trained for5.5 weeks for 1st 1/2 marathon>started over 50..>I am nuts(?)never ran B4. Now 63 +this is on my list. First full was year later within 3 mins of Boston. I swam over500 miles both yrs in training (over800k);may help you to cross train in pool after runs. Good luck mate.
Amazing effort! As the saying goes 'A marathon is made up of 100's of miles, the last 26.2 are just the victory lap' don't discount the hours & miles you've put in. There are no 'losers' in distance running!!
In 2008, I waked up at 6 am and walked through that section and reached the Shimatai section at night. Next time you should check out the Shimatai section, it is awesome, and somewhat dangerous.
You should be so proud of yourself!! When I climbed the wall the stairs were a killer! I don’t know how you got as far as you did! I know that you wanted to share your adventure with us, but why did you carry the camera? That must have been difficult as well. Your final message is important for you to remember: you tried and did your best. You are an inspiration to us all!
I commend you!! What you did was AMAZING! I just came back from Jinshinling and it is difficult. It took me 2 days to hike the 22 towers, so CONGRATS to you!!!

What you accomplished is nothing short of awesome! You did your best, and that's what matters. Next time will be better if you decide to give it a try again. Be proud of what you did though, you earned it!!
That was amazing! You looked like you were running steps nearly the whole time. That was impressive. I can’t imagine doing a marathon, let alone one where you run up stairs for that long of it. Way to go!
Ahhh I feel your pain.. I did a half marathon in South Wales 🏴 Cardiff- a few years ago and the last mile my knee started to give me PAIN! so was mostly walking jogging and stretching! Since then I have just been running shorter distances. Seems to be ok now. So here I am thinking of doing the Great Wall marathon :) it looks awesome!
i really appreciate you doing this and totally understand the feeling in the end. i had a career ending injury and had to quit running. it's really tough.
I'm impressed with your effort, and suggest that completing however much you did is quite an accomplishment. Although I've never run a marathon (running isn't my thing), I've done the MS Challenge Walk several times. Every step you complete is an accomplishment. Your shot when you first got on the wall terrified me, because as beautiful as the wall and it's surroundings are, good golly you were up high. And next time you attempt this type of challenge, one more mile is the goal.
Jord, I really enjoy your videos and massive respect for trying, but honestly (in my opinion) you didn't seem sure you were going to complete it even the day before. I really hope you go back, train with a coach, invest in shoes specific to you, get the correct program, nutritional advice (you didn't say but a few bananas are never going to sustain you) and smash the hell out of it! Well done for trying and I wish you a speedy recovery from your injury!! Love from Scotland

A little bit about the great wall. It wasnt built by an emperor nor a dynasty but generations of rulers and kingdoms.
You just have to imagine a horde of Mongolian warriors chasing after you and you will run faster.
hahahaha
LOL, FF:Mongolian don't have to do it cuz this is bulit after they were defeated.

3:16 I’m going to sleep
3:18 on my computer 😂
Great job. 👏👏 That's inspiring. From Indonesia.
Nice
Great job! I walked about 10k on the great wall back in 2007 and felt like I was about to die. Can't imagine running a half, let alone a full!
