    Congrats on the new Subaru, welcome to the Subaru club.,the more I watch videos of the Tank 300 I am convinced its probably the bargin of the century in that category given that it actually can prove it self reliable & dependable in the long run...one thing fir sure it's giving all off roaders a run for their money right now!

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  10 месяцев назад

      Definitely agree (and thanks!). Tank 300 is absolute value for money, even though it remains to be seen how reliable it really is long term (3+ years of heavy use, I'm thinking, would be indicative enough)

    Of coarse it can tow, and it would be capable at it.
    18 lts per hundred is admirable but certainly not brilliant, however it's close to or better than a LC 200 series though.
    To clarify, what people argue is with its payload, deduct ball weight downforce, add cargo and passengers, once done it's outside of legal, overloaded by Aus Laws.
    Many other countries don't give a freckle to payload capacity, they just load up hitch up and go, as us Aussies used to until laws were introduced forcing manufacturers to stipulate towing capacities & unfortunately some manufacturers underrate and others overrate. Few are truly on the money.
    Daihatsu used to rate the Rocky higher than credible, the Tank is a fare more credible tow vehicle than a Daihatsu Rocky ever was, but no one talked of it whilst being produced.
    Of coarse the tank can do that, easily also, just not legally in Aus.
    Look back people, how many Commodores did you see towing caravans?
    Max rated tow capacity was 1600kg, but it was ignored.
    Falcon auto was 2100kg, yes credible, but the V8 falcon manual was 1600 kg.
    Tank is truly credible in contrast.
    Unfortunately, its a legal issue, not a capability issue.

      Good and insightful write-up. I've certainly zoomed in onto what looked like alleged lack of capability, not taking into account what's allowed vs. not... In all fairness, I think people like JC throwing stones at Tank 300 also didn't say a word about legalities and were only talking about how Tank won't be able to lift or pull sh1t - which is what prompted this video.

    There are plenty of videos on youtube of the tank towing in China. It's been sold there since 2020.

    Yes 18l is horrendous. Reminds me of my Jeep Cherokee Sport. Was fun to drive but you were always searching for the next gas station. It's not like fuel is getting cheaper either. Tank is a bit like one of those cheap printers. You buy it and then spend a fortune in ink cartridges.

    A quick question... there is a video showing braking issue where the rear wheel lifts off the ground... considering this... do you think this vehicle is risky for countries like UAE or Saudi Arabia where speeds are legal 140 to 160kmph? Specially if emergency braking is required in any event

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  8 месяцев назад +1

      Of course it's risky. But that's why you have a drivers license and a common sense (I hope) as a driver! Like, depending on what you drive, how fast you drive and what you tow, you decide what's safe and unsafe. Can't blame a non-racing car vehicle performing badly at those speeds with something hauled behind as well, right?

    • @syedjawadkarim5005
      @syedjawadkarim5005 8 месяцев назад

      @@ValueCarsAU
      Yes.. correct... as these vehicles would mainly be used as daily commuter OR as an off roading vehicls on week ends, hauling is not that much common for these type of vehicles here as mighty V8 like Patrols or Land Cruisers are used for that ... but this vehicle will mainly be used for sand dune bashing.

    At the risk of sounding disrespectful, maybe the language is a barrier here. And I'm not being disrespectful! For sure you didn't understand what John(Cadogan) said about the towing ability. He said it was a legal matter based on GWMs figures, not whether it can or can't tow. The issue here is that people don't understand the technical issues of towing and mass limits and suchlike. They just see that it can tow (blah blah) amount, they then throw in all the gear as well, and think all is good. Once over the allowable mass limits, and say they have an issue of some kind, no matter if it's their fault or not, insurance company says sorry, you're not insured because it was found that they were 10 Kg over the allowable weight limit in the car, or on the towball, or whatever! Watch Johns video again and again if you need too, but be sure you've understood the legal/mass/combination issues he refers too.

      With respect to Towing. Broadly Cadogan is usually 100% in his comments and in respect to the actual physical dynamics (and dangers) of towing his advice is sound. I suspect his "It's rubbish" comments on the TANK 300 are just a media grab for attention and to sell a few more tickets for the next AUTO EXPERT "special report". End of the day advertising income is what floats the Auto Expert channel. Also yeah but no on the insurance angle. Yeah if you overload the crap out of a vehicle and the overloading causes an accident no cover. BUT if you are in an accident and the overloading did not cause the accident chances are the insurer will have to pay. It's the reasonable person test and all insurers are subject to The Insurance Contracts Act in Australia. What would I know, 35+ years in the Motor / Heavy Motor Insurance industry. Pro Tip though don't deliberately overload a vehicle.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah you're right, suggesting that the problem i didn't get the wisdom of JC is some BS language barrier is disrespectful.

    • @johnbambo9036
      @johnbambo9036 10 месяцев назад

      It's just Cadogan being Cadogan. Ask him about the Black Hawk Down incident when one of his 5 (or 6) ex wives was after him and landed a Black Hawk at or near the Fat Cave. Channels like yours are great for the alternative view. I bought a Tank Ultra, it's great only issue is lane keeping is rubbish, but believe there is a software update in the pipeline. You just turn it off for the moment. I also sp"cced mine for delivery with Pirelli Scorpion A/T+ tyres, cost was minimal. The TANK is not designed to be a Heavy Tow vehicle for sure, BUT it can Tow as your video clearly shows.

    I would like to buy the Tank Hybrid 300 but I have reservations about its potential to 'bunny hop' when emergency braking & whether the hybrid is efficient enough in reducing fuel consumption??

      The battery of the tank 300 Hybrid version is under the flocked panel in the trunk. I think the weight of this battery will help the rear wheels lift off the ground during sudden braking.

    All cars are capable of occasional towing. Most cars are not designed for regular towing, Tank is no different.
    If you look at real towing vehicles like Landcruiser you will see massive weight and horribly inefficient oversized drivetrains. This means these vehicles have large margin of error when it comes to the stresses of towing. A Landcruiser will gulp fuel whether towing or not, Tank is a fuel sipper and light weight. The fact that whilst towing the fuel consumption doubles means the poor little motor is under immense strain. Not an ideal situation for longevity.
    Congrats on the Subaru. Never liked the oil leaky boxer motor much but that won't be a problem for you as you'll trade in before it becomes an issue. Should hold its value ok anyway.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks mate, yes I hope this holds value better, and even so far I can see how much better it drives than anything I've tried in the recent past. Re towing, yes it's clear that a 2.0 L petrol is engine is under strain. I wouldn't buy Tank 300 to tow, but we can see that it can perfectly deal with an occasional instance of it.
