    As a former librarian, I cannot stress how much I loathe bookshelves where the books are organised by their colour. From a visual perspective I understand it (and I even understand remembering the cover more than the author/title), but it just stresses me out that you would mix every genre together without a thought and it screams “showroom” more than “home” to me.

      I’m an English teacher and I arrange my books by color. I have a small apartment and it is much less cluttered looking when there are blocks of color on the wall rather than a riot of color. However, all of my professional books are in my office, the nonfiction and fiction are in different bookcases, and my oversized art books live in stacks under the console table in the entryway. So, it’s actually very easy to find what I am looking for. (Oh, and there is a separate bookcase for series of books that obviously have to live together. )

    • @borjok536
      @borjok536 2 года назад +3

      but of course we need to consider rules in designing. ur just not like randomly put something just because it represents ur unique style.. imo a home should be look good not just on ur eyes but to the eyes of majority.. well i know most of u will disagree but take for example, u like violet color, this is ur favourite color since u were in ur kindergarten and u want to incorporate it in ur home just because thats represent ur unique style.. u paint ur walls in violet or purple color hang a printed curtain with violet flowers on it and a part of it were made as ur throw pillows and sofa cover.. i dont think this unique style would be aesthitically good.. 😢

    • @star85827
      @star85827 2 года назад +2

      @@borjok536 Yes your correct, that's why you have designers, in building, fashion and so on. You take the principles in any industry and foundation and then you add things you like and build upon it. Read my reply above to them, a person is moved by what they see, as a consumer, much like the psychology in marketing and sales. You have trends, people gravitate to it as it will be everywhere and THEN they buy accordingly, dosent mean its their taste per say or even their individuality at all. That is the influence and power of marketing. Much like the music industry, they decide what they spin, people go for it regardless if its good or not. They are inundated and don't even realize the choice isnt as much their own but the psychological ploy. DOnt worry about people agreeing with you or not. Your not wrong, and neither am I.

      I have some new light grey accent walls with venetian plastering, almost black stacked stone, the rest is mostly white (walls & furniture) and preserved moss walls / green plants . It is not a design style - it is me! I want the focus to be on the green forest outside. If I would want some extra colors (like in autumn), I will get some pillow covers and candles ;-). One reason that we like white walls in Northern Europe is that our houses are smaller, we often have gable roofs and we have a lot of darkness in winter.

    • @robinblack7883

    I feel like the trick with making a freestyle gallery wall work is focusing on cohesion, a story, between all the pieces. Im a maximalist so I love a free style gallery wall. I collect art and all art is going to be different sizes and styles, if you put all those art pieces into a grid it would look really weird and wrong. But with a verity of frames and art pieces, having them placed at random just works so much better its also what you would see in traditional art museum gallery salons.

    • @tatina3
      @tatina3 Год назад +1

      I agree 100%!!! For example we have a couple of different (mostly early 1900s and modern) sketches and paintings, etc. grouped together on a gallery wall, because we buy them separately at antique stores and markets, and add one or two to them every few years. It looks great and we love each individual piece of art despite the different frames and sizes. It's much more about the art style matching your personality, or feeling a connection to the artists, I guess, and much less about the placement and the precise measurements, symmetry, etc.

    I regret doing a gallery wall of my kids’ photos. For starters, if I want to update it I will need to print off photos in the exact same sizes to fit the frames already up there. Plus I originally did it in chronological order, so that will drive me nuts. And I don’t have the ability to hang everything just right, with a consistent sliver of wall in between. But I’ve now knocked too many holes in the wall to change it without replastering the whole thing. Sigh.

    Agree with all , (especially the slanted legs. That gave me some laughs as I grew up with mid-century modern furniture I was always afraid to be stabbed by), except the "freestyle gallery wall". Though, based on your photo illustrations, it seems like at least part of what you are reacting to are walls with many different kinds of frames (and other objects) on the wall, and different spacing between all. I think there is probably something between a grid and total chaos.

    Thanks for the video. I still love my free style gallery wall in our open plan living/ dining room. Since we stay in a relatively small town house I don't have much wall space. I've got some special picture frames from a country market and farm stall which we visited during family holidays. Special photos and frames in my free style gallery wall.

    just yesterday I was wondering about a trend that's going on where I live, the metal and wood pergolas which go well only with modern house designs but will surely go out of style leaving behind and making it very noticeable that uniformity that many trends are trying to accomplish during the last couple of years, great video 👍

      My former neighbor bought one. It’s only been a year and that thing is an eyesore. It has the cheap bulbs that are not working on it and everything is faded or molding. They moved and left it for us to look at.😡
