What I mean by my original comment is that you can listen to hours of different punk-rock songs and other varieties of punk from just the 90s to 2000 and hear this sound all over the place. All of it pre-MCR. Gerard may have been influenced by that era to some degree, but he set himself apart vocally pretty quickly.

if you're asking this genuinely, all music is a certain range of frequencies with letters as signifier. diffrent letters give different emotional responses and combining or sequencing these can give of completely different transformative feelings. its the same "letters" transposed in another style, punk being more quick and simple, using mostly power chords with the same "letters" as a base. you could transpose almost anything to any style.
