We used to get a vacuum delay valve......At pick-a-part. They came on many GM models on the air cleaner.

Usually for my customers, I covert their cars to electric fuel pump and add a block off plate, if they plan to use the Pat Downs or Magnaspark. I don’t have to worry about clearance unless the block off plate has a fitting for a breather.

If the module in those shock wave distributors burn out. Are replacement parts available.

What’s the difference between this Shockwave Distributor vs the Magnaspark distributor? Thanks

one is sourced through CB performance and the other is through Pat Downs. Who used to work for CB and put the system together. They are both the same from what i know and parts interchange. Pat was the REAL QC guy at CB....so I am confident he makes a great product. CB still has some really great staff and they are doing just fine without him so no worries.

009 distributors were designed for industrial machinery. They started being used in the 70's as a cheap replacement. I hate 009's. The curve sucks, and it's hard to find softer springs.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  4 месяца назад +1

the reason they came out is because of dual carbs. No vacuum access. I think VWs love advance. The only reason they wont work is if you have high compression. It is a faster curve but if your compression is in the proper range and your using premium fuel they work great.

@@Mikefngarage actually a 010 and svda have a faster curve. The 009 really doesn't do much until 2100/2200 rpm.

Yea I have a lot of animals out there. I think that is a Squirrel.....last time I got my dog out there after that sucker and he chased one. The squirrel jumped on the hood of my truck and thought he got away. My dog jumped right up after him and caught him. But I dont want him doing that anymore because he is just too old and might end up at the VET $$$

Actually, the svda distributor is load sensitive.
Every engine on earth .. has a version of svda ... in one form or another.
    What a svda does ...
Example: if you are going up a hill in 3rd gear, and drop the hammer .. the timing changes .. and you accelerate up the hill like a scalded rabbit.
With a 09 machanical distributor ... you drop the hammer, the engine bogs and bogs .... and nothing happens, or you even lose speed.
And it's the same thing ... every time you change gears. And it's the dreaded flat spot on take-off. Any attempt to enrich the pumper ... takes you away from a performance tune.
Machanical distributors are a joke. There are only designed for stationary generator engines.
Using a 09 is really just an old backwards European thing.
But it was a financial thing, as the svda cost ten times more back in the 70s. So, it was tempting to cheapo owners.
Also, old outdated carbs dont have a property metered Vaccum port .. so then .. you are screwed.
But ... almost all vw carbs these days come with a properly metered vacuum port, designed specifically for the svda.
Even all chevy V8s use svda vacuum distributors.
Not to mention ... all programmable distributors come with the electronic version of svda.
Why, because all engines on earth need to be load sensitive.
EXCEPT .. a stationary generator engine, as they only run at one rpm, with one fixed load. But even then .. the machanical advance .. still have a built in fixed amout of advance, as the load is a constant known speed and load .. right in the center of the powerband.
It's only one bolt, pop off your cap, swap out your outdated 09, swap in a svda. Go for a good drive.
You will never go back to a fixed generator, non-load sensitive machanical only distributor ever again.
