Fursuit Performance 101 [FWA 2012]

- A full video of a panel for fursuit beginners. The people who were suppose to show up to run the panel didn't, so a couple of experienced fursuiters decided to run it themselves. It was a lot of fun and many learned a lot. :)
Received permission from all of the suiters who ran the panel to post this video.
I have this vicious cycle that I cannot stop. Every time I watch these videos, it depresses me because this is the type of freedom and expression I want out of life, but can't have. Yet, I still can't stop watching them because they're so fun and entertaining. To any fur reading this: If you attend cons, suit, party, or any combination of those activities, please know how lucky you are. As for the video, it is another prime example of the amazing creativity this fandom has. - Connor Wolf

dude for 2012 the video quality couldnt be any better i litterally grew up of this type of video quality and loved it very much 1080p is lame as shit bring me back to the good old days when we didnt really have shit let me go back to the days on holidays when my family used to hang out for the whole night almost a few days family dinners were longer and family time was alot better when we didnt have a short amount of time because we coulddo more things together now a days shit is very time limited we cant always hang out it fucking sucks

Glad that you caught this on cam. I couldn't go to FWA this year. Some fursuiters I've seen and some I haven't. Which reminds me, I always wondered what happens when a furry gets....round. What do they do to fit into their fursuit? I'm changing shape myself. :P
I am gonna be a fur suiter, I am getting one made it is gonna be life like though, In other words, mine is not gonna be cartoony, My nexted one might be though, But mine is gonna be a wolf, with realistic teeth and tounge, and Lightup LED lights, it will be a full fur suit. :) I am so excited.

what's stopping you? I mean I know how you feel trust me! I have considered myself a fur for such a long time now but only recently have I taken interest in suiting because of videos like this, but I know with my crappy job I can't just throw the money into having a suit made, but I'm starting to save up and one day, I will be in suit and attending cons!
Watered down rubbing alcohol works, but an easier solution is to get an anti-microbial spray. I prefer Febreze over Lysol. Lysol will burn your eyes when you sweat. And Febreze smells much nicer.
to add onto the drink lots of water part
my first time suiting at a con I did drink a lot of water....but I ended up drinking so much it flushed the electrolytes out of my system!
So Gatorade is really important too! Heat exhaustion is...not fun when drinking water isn't helping.
If you can, it's better to go with a fan instead of a hair dryer. The air can feel cold but still might be hot enough to warp or melt the fur.
We actually have a meet group! We suit up at Pullen Park in Raleigh all the time! :) If you don't live in the triangle area but wanna suit somewhere; call the location/company themselves and just ask! Explain that you have a mascot costume and you would like to wear it! :D

Some people wear under-armor head gear as well... To catch sweat and keep it off of the suit. I personally do not, but I also vigorously clean my head.
This just makes me want my suit more gosh i wish i had it
You can go to Comicon in Pheonix, they don't mind fursuiters but you might get a few "What game are you from?" or "You arn't from a comic!" Thats when you shrug and bounce around.
oh ok thank you for the tips. for me i just try and put my glasses on my mask or i just have my friend help me. but i didn't know if there was other tips to try. so thank you

i have a question for this video. for me i wear glasses but when i wear my cat mask. i can not wear my glasses under the mask. so what do you do for that. because i can not see well through my mask. and i really don't wanna wear my glasses on my mask face and end up braking my glasses.
also the dryer sheets dont work that well use silica gel. its the little do not eat packets and you can get them from walllmart. i live in a fogy place and moisture gets into everything and with thows not my fursuit head

When they explianed how to wash suits they never mentioned how to wash padded suits. Like digitigrade padding. Does anyone have any tips for washing them?
The closer the eyes, the smaller the hole can be for the same field of vision. Muzzle gets in the way, however
Any detergent works fine. Just don't use fabric softener.

What do you do with your furry head when flying? Also, does anyone have any tips to stay cool for longer periods in your furry suit? And other than the fur, what are the body suits made out of?

I wish I could find these videos with captions for the deaf and hard of hearing as I neither could hear well at the panels and need to learn this stuff. *sigh*
If you're willing, you could start up your own fur-con. But I would reccomend that you do some homework on it first. Ect how many furs in Scotland, other fur-cons (there's one near the middle of England) and other important stats.
I have had thoughts of starting up my own as well, but due to college work, that won't be possible for a little while. Maybe in the future I might, but not right now.
Then, my friend, you need a new suit :P
If it's only minute, then you can send it in to the maker to get adjusted. I'm not sure what it would cost you, if anything.
