That's such an impressive collection of pocket fountain pens. I own the Pilot Petit1 and the Pilot Elite with 18k Gold Nib. They're very good EDC pens. Thanks for the video! :)
This is such a great video! I've been looking for suggestions for some good pocket pens, and every time I search online, most lists seem to start with Pilot Petite and end with Kaweco. I'd almost come to believe there weren't many good pocket pens at all! Your list has, by far, the most varied selection of brands I've seen in a while. Such amazing suggestions! It's given me quite a few names I can add to my list, including the possibly unattainable, but so, so, so desirable Pilot MYU (what a beauty this pen is!). Thank you so much for making this video. :)
Of my 60+ pens, the Pilot Petit1s are those I use constantly. It makes a nice mark - that's all I need. My pen buying pretty much dried up when I started telling myself that any new pen must do something for me that the Petit1 doesn't.
Nice overview Mike! The only pocket fountain pens I actually carry in a pocket are my Kaweco Sport and Lilliput but I am still drawn to these types of pens.
I just got a Travelers brass pocket pen, also have 2 Kaweco’s a green sport and a sport with the distressed denim look and a Pilot Prera clear demonstrator.
I collect and use pocket fountain pens exclusively. Out of all the pens in this video, pilot prera is the best one for the money. For gold nib, sailor pro gear is the best. Aurora optima and pelikan m400 can also be considered pocket pens. Any thing less then or equal to 125 mm is a pocket pen if you go by men’s dress shirt pocket size. Surprised not to find twsbi vac mini or regular mini in the video.
Huh. I'd never thought of going by that kind of measurement. I think of a pocket pen as a small pen that one can put in a pants or coat pocket, but not really something that would be clipped to a shirt pocket. I didn't include the TWSBI minis because I actually forgot that I had one. oops.
I'm late to the game, but here are my pocket pens: Pilot Petit1 (I purchased an 8 pack, but have given several of them away) Kaweco Sport (classic, ice, Al) SchonDSGN pocket 6 Gravitas (stainless) Ensso (titanium) Monteverde Ritma (mini version of the straight-barrel magnetic cap pen - came with swappable lanyard and flat-top finials) Pilot Prera (purchased from Mike at the Philly pen show!). My favorite is the Gravitas: nice section, eyedropperable (304 stainless is corrosion resistant), and the machined flat (great roll-stop)!
Esterbrook produced pocket/purse pens in the J series. The H (clipless) and the CH (with a clip) they were otherwise similar to the SJ but only 111mm long capped.
I must admit I have too many pocket pens, yet I'm still looking for more... Currently own the Montblanc Boheme Rouge (M nib, so don't actually use it), Boheme Noir, Kaweco AlSport, Kaweco stainless Liliput, and a clear Moonman Wancai Mini. All I really use is the Liliput after replacing the AlSport with it :')
English: I have been using "Pentel Smash" for a long time and I want to get a better and better quality pen that is very old. Which pen do you think should I buy? I think the platinum is a pka-500. I have two pocket pens, one kaweco sport and another that is a prera knockoff that was cleaned out and thrown in my unused fountain pen box a few years ago.
Not sure that the Pilot Elite (at least the version in the video) is an inlaid nib, IMHO. Richard's Glossopedia states "nib that is mounted flush with (inlaid into) the surface of the gripping section. Introduced in 1959 on the PFM (U.S. Patent No D188,265 for the nib and No D188,266
I'd buy that, I suppose. I don't know what I'd call the ones on the Elite if not inlaid. They're certainly different from the PFM and Targa and Carene, but only because they're inlaid deeper into the section. So... "really inlaid" nib? I don't know.
I'd go with Richard's Glossopedia. He lists names for more than a few nib types. The "inset nib" or the "fingernail nib" would appear to be good matches for the 1970's Japanese short-longs. He also lists "Integral nib" (MYU / M90). I recall hearing a fancier name for the fingernail nibs somewhere. I want to say it was a french sounding word. But, I just can't dredge it out of long-term memory.
I tend to think of the M200, Esterbrook J, Pro-Gear Slim, etc.. as just pens. They are the size of pens. pen sized... I guess I'm old school that way... Still, I enjoyed the video. It's enlightening to see all of those compared and contrasted. Thanks Mike!
My favorite pocket pen is the Opus 88 Fantasia. It’s 4 1/2in. long. Cool thing is it’s Japanese eyedropper so it holds a lot of ink and has a shut-off valve so is great for travel/flying. I think they stopped making them last year but are still available some places.
These are what I like. Penbbs 471: almost same as the moonman wancai, but it has faceted ring that can be used as a roll stop. Franklin Chrostoph 20p: a great slip on cap pen. Karas Kustoms Vertex: similar to 20p, but a bit bigger. The grip is really comfy. Pilot Capless CS100: the smallest capless fountain pen I know. hard to get, but it is quite filmsy.
Thank you, love the roundup format.

Sometimes a lil pen is the right pen.
Awesome line up of pens. I am starting to get more fond of pocket pens.
I just got a Travelers brass pocket pen, also have 2 Kaweco’s a green sport and a sport with the distressed denim look and a Pilot Prera clear demonstrator.
Oh yeah, I always forget about the Traveler's FP. I think it's because I've never seen one in person.
The Wancai is a copy of a Japanese made pen. It comes in at least 3 nib sizes; mine came with 2 nibs, a fine and 1.1 stub.
Of course it’s a copy. 🤦🏼♂️
What’s the original? I’d be interested in seeing it
@@boredandagitated The original is made by Helico.
I have lusted after the Pilot MYU and M90 since I first saw them, stunning pens. I also crave a vintage Kaweco sport with ink window.
Now that I have the myu I want a striped myu. I just don't want to pay the price that those demand.
Comprehensive indeed. Excellent job. Thanks
Thanks!

Solid set! I like the Petit1, but I keep forgetting about it. That pen will stay inked forever in a drawer and come out working every time.
Gods video dude! I love pocket pens, they’re cute! Prefer writing with a bigger pen but pocket pens rule.
Oh the one not included: the tucky!
Oh yeah, I don't have any of those, so I didn't include them. I have a friend who has offered to loan me a couple, but I wanted to get this out.

Nice! I have one of the Big Opus pens, but I've not used the little ones.
Actually they're Taiwanese. I don't own any Opus 88 yet, but they're on my list.
Even though they are Taiwanese that type of filling system with the shut-off valve is called “Japanese eyedropper”.
@@arlenealennox3136 Thank you. I learned something new to me today.
Maybe a lab created spinel or ruby. Either is relatively inexpensive.
That p66 is pretty awesome.
It really is!
Pocket pens are my jam!
how do you maintain your metal fountain pens?
How do you mean? They don’t take any special care.
@@inkdependence I thought since there metal there prone to rusting so you will need more precautions with them than any other material.
Oh! Nope. They are made out of metals like aluminum, titanium, bronze, copper, and so forth. Those metals don't rust, and you needn't worry about it.
@@inkdependence thank you 😊 learned something new.
