      Not every dishwasher is the same, but the concept is pretty universal. Bottom of dishwashers are no joke as the manufacturer keeps a lot of the metal down there pretty raw and feel no need to sand any corners or edges. Glad you got it figured out!!! I bet it looks great!

    Thank You. For someone with a moderate amount of DIY knowledge, but never having replaced a dishwasher before, your video was perfect. No overly wordy explanations or repeating the same asinine warnings about making sure you remember to trip the breaker or turn off the water supply or you could end up with a mess. Sigh… those videos drive me crazy. To the point, well spoken, clear video, no multiple reminders about common sense things like “ don’t forget to make sure you triple check that your screws are snugged up tight to prevent any problems in the future. “. And no novel length speeches like the one that I’m giving in this comment. Liked, subbed, and notifications on, just because I think if you post something, I might learn something and I didn’t have to devote an hour to something you could concisely explain to me in five minutes. So thank You! I’m a fan!

    Colton, you forgot the absolute most important step! Always always always test before touch! Verify that the power is off with a voltmeter or test light before de-terminating the power leads!

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY  3 года назад +46

      You are right. I did forget to mention to test with a multimeter, or something similar or as simple as a test light. Test it out and make sure the voltage has stopped from the wires. I usually do pretty well at mentioning this but I forgot to add it in this one. Thanks for the comment!

      My dishwasher plugged into the wall. Should I check the breaker too? I bought a dishwasher and had them install it.

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY  3 года назад +11

      If you have a dishwasher that was installed with a cord that plugs into an outlet and had a licensed professional install it, likely the outlet is protected and you should be fine to replace your dishwasher by unplugging it then ensuring your new dishwasher has a plug that also plugs into the same outlet

    • @davidblaska4738
      @davidblaska4738 2 года назад +33

      An easier way: Very first thing to do is switch off circuit breaker. Then turn on dishwasher. If it doesn't light up, you have cut off the power.

      You might of just saved my life! My wife just got a new dishwasher and I turned off the breaker labeled dishwasher. Turns out it was still getting electricity.

  • @michael95621
    @michael95621 3 года назад +27

    Few things to add:
    Unplug the dishwasher if you can or check for power
    Check for leaks before you slide it back in
    Screw the feet down on the existing dishwasher before sliding it out - gives you a lot more room to work with.
    If you're replacing cords you can disconnect them and not be worried about damaging them while pulling out.

      @@ColtonCrumpDIY sure thing, thanks for the video. Reminded me of some of things I had forgotten since the last time I did one. I usually do a full cord replace so I unhook from the disposal, water valve, and outlet side, but I might not this time.
      You made it look easy though :D, last time I did one took me 2 hours to get it in because I forgot about those feet screwing up and down.

      Should you turn off the power on the breaker or is that not necessary?

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY  Год назад +1

      I would for sure recommend turning off the power at the breaker box, circuit box whatever you want to call it, before handling any of these wires.

    • @lkstaack74
      @lkstaack74 2 месяца назад +2

      Also, mention that 1) some building codes require an air gap between the DW and drain, and 2) some professional installers won't hard-wire the DW in, they must have a GFI plug available.

    Great video! Thank you! I hope this helps someone. I was thinking the hardest part of this for me would be laying the dishwasher on its back and then picking it back up again. But I figured out that I can put two chairs facing each other and lay the dishwasher back on those. I hope the weight distribution will allow for that. Doing it that way will also keep me from having to get down on the floor and pick myself back up. I'm 65 and have arthritis, so I don't like having to do that.

    Home Depot wants $250 to put in a new one. The installer told me he had to open up the wall and replace all the copper pipes so they're up to code. Get the hell out of my house!

      It is encouraging to see that people have made this happen. My hubby ordered it fast enough but now it's just sitting there. So I need to take a breath and get this done. I'm not particularly mechanically minded but I can follow directions and copy. Here's hoping I can find the tools I need in the hoarder shed. 🎉

      @ColtonCrumpDIY  10 месяцев назад +1

      @BobbiGail you got this. Take it one step at a time. I know I go fast but pause it, go back, re watch, and next thing you know you'll be done. Maybe 2 to 3 hours, but you got this!!

    Great video, but always make sure you just turn your hot water valve off to the whole house , cause in most houses and all older houses the shut off valve isn’t just under the sink, in my case I just about flooded the kitchen and sent a significant amount of water to the basement. Cleaning it up as we speak. Just be safe and turn it all off.
