I live in a place where encounters with black bears are fairly common. It's hard to remember it in the situation but running is the absolute worst thing you could do.
Look for the video where the camper guy punched one and made it ran. He just reacted but his expression afterwards was "I can't believe I did that and survived"

Hi, im one of those gas station workers, or more so used to be. Yes I can confirm a gas station in the middle of no where is creepy all around the clock. The stories I could tell you. Creepy men standing in the tree line, usual they are on drugs. It makes them even creepier because you never know what could happen. Also random growls in the tree line or eyes shifting from foxes or deer. Truely scary stuff.
Used to live a few miles from a place like that. We only had one gas station for about 15 miles. Out in the middle of Mammoth Cave country. Our little store had all kinds of shizz happen there. Two mailmen killed themselves there. One lady hung herself. Strange. Anywho

the looping is something that happens all the time in the woods, like getting lost and doubling back over a path you think you haven't gone down but actually have. I really think that's the strong point of this game, to play into the looping aspect but cutting between the different locations as you get closer and closer to maybe what's happening in these woods
I remember reading something once where it says that most of us will travel in one giant circle if we don’t have something to aim for or a clear path. Scary to think you could give yourself hope just to technically be right back where you started 😮
@@thefoosterchannel Growing up in the mountains when hiking from one ridge to the next I was taught very young to spot the tallest tree in the area you want to be and aim for that. You can even aim to one direction of it and still end up where you're trying to go. And if you ever get lost, stop, and hug a tree.
eta- Doesn't have to be the tallest tree, could be a unique or stand out tree too. Something high up you can keep an eye on to orient yourself. And always make sure somebody knows where you're going before heading out into the wilderness

@@thefoosterchannel it´s been theorized that this is something from our hunting ancestors so that when they went hunting in the dark they would always come back to the starting spot some kind of built in returning mechanism kind of like the tree grabbing when sleeping. I think Mythbusters did a video on this at some point as well.
Yellowstone guide here. I’ve had a lot of crazy encounters with all sorts of wildlife. Best thing for an unwanted encounter of any animal is to hike in groups, or never be alone. Carry bear spray and never run from a bear (unless you’re as fast as fooster). Don’t leave food in your tent if you’re camping, etc etc. If you ever hike or camp in bear country there’s no need to be afraid 99% of the time if you are being smart about it.
if I have a 60mm artillery set up in the carpark, with a GPS beacon. would that count as protecting my self or hunting, if used on a bear...asking for a friend.

@@joedoe7041 I’m all for lethal arms if I’m deep in backcountry but believe it or not in the national parks if you shoot a bear in self defense you will still be fined because they claim there are different ways you could handle it. Not always the case, and if a bear is after me I’m using everything I got including 60mm artillery
@@GiddyDolphin I’m glad to hear that not every park person is daft to self defense of bears. I live super close to YNP and the constant grizzly encounters just shows we haven’t managed their population.

Getting lost in the deep woods at night is scary af if you're not used to it. You completely lose sense of direction and cant tell if you're going in circles until it's too late. Best thing to do if you're lost is stay in one place and try to make camp, travel only in the day and stay warm at night.
Yep! I mentioned that on another comment too. It’s not always the animals that you have to be worried about. Simply finding a way to safety can be incredibly difficult
Thats why horror games that take place at night, in the woods and alone is what would terrify me.

Yes! Not knowing where you are in the dark is scary AF. I went through it. The best is to stay put.
There's added dangers of not seeing like falling down ledges or into stuff and dying. All I'm saying is location beacons are your best friend. So many deaths could have been avoided if just a few dollars had been spent and the ego of "not needing it" ignored.
I had to promise in one of my previous relationships to always walk with it and to ease my then partners worries, I did and it saved my life.
My ego could have gotten me killed. Because I only did it for my then partner. I thought I could survive in any situation lol

No bears around here, worst we got are moose. And I once had to dodge a rather angry one in a forest once, due to suddenly finding myself a bit close to her calf. She mostly calmed down once she got between me and the calf though. You would expect them to be easy to notice, but nope. Half a ton of ninja.
I hear Moose can be extremely short tempered too and they are a massive animal so I can see how that is scary 😮
In Wyoming moose are responsible for more deaths and injuries than bears. I’ve been charged a few times it’s not fun

The thing that made me most anxious is watching Fooster speed through the trees in his car and just waiting for a deer to dart in front of the car. I recently had a run in with a deer like that. Joys of commuting down dark back roads to work daily

just stand up to a black bear and make noise, they run nearly every time. Brown bears can match horses on sprints so unless you are confident you can win a 100 meter dash vs a horse just lay down on your stomach and just don't let it roll you over. You will be bruised and bloodied but you have an okay chance of surviving. A polar bear will have been hunting you for miles before you see it. Your best bet would be to shed a piece of clothing and run towards shelter, you might get a bit farther without it as the scent may slow it down for a minute but you really only have a few minutes once you spot it in the distance at most to find a secure location or get easier prey between you and it.
I hope you knew I was joking. As much as I would like to think I would be able to act in that situation the truth is I would probably be absolutely terrified

No, Grizzlies kill over half of the time. Also bears aren't as fast as horses, I know people who have outrun a semi famous Grizzly bear on a horse
@@Cole-Baker The average top speed of a horse is 30mph, which is going to somewhat vary by breed. Thoroughbreds can reach about 40mph, for instance. Grizzlies can sprint 30-45mph. I'd recon the main reason a horseback rider could outrun a healthy grizzly would be endurance, which horses specialize in. Most predators won't keep chase if the chances of catching their prey are too low, the energy output is greater than caloric intake, etc. And grizzly bears are known to bluff charge, so it's possible it could've been chasing them away from a specific spot but had no interest in catching them.
@slimothyjames4577 I work cows on horseback. I've ridden quite a few breeds but you are just wrong. I don't know where you are getting your information. Quarter horses can get way faster than you mentioned. And no the bear wasn't bluff charging, like I said he was kinda famous in the early 2000s. Killed a ton of cattle around the yellowstone area and attacked people's dogs and did attack humans a couple different times. I've been on a horse around Grizzlies before, just saying I've lived it kinda
Worked as a park attendant during the summer while in college. Worked the night shift, 7PM to 7AM. Saw a lot of black bears. They were way more interested in the trash than anything else. I was more worried about drunks running through the gate.
The rule for bears is to stand your ground and tell the bear to "go on, 'git!" because you'd never outrun a bear, not only are they faster than you over short distances but they can smell you from 20 miles away.
Unless it's a cocaine bear, then the best advice I can give is, to quote the hitchhikers guide: "..consider how good your life has been up to that point. Alternatively, if life hasn't been good to you, which seems more likely given the circumstances, consider how lucky you are that it won't be troubling you for much longer."
So would a gun not help in that situation? Surely it’ll save your life

@@NLGogeta the way to fight a bear is to bait it into rising on it's hind legs using a spear, then you use the bears own weight to impale it on the spear
Nice to see someone making an interesting and unnerving game around the Missing 411s. I'm very surprised they went with a "Twin Peaks" style pilot episode though considering a situation with a Dogman, Bigfoot or other Cryptids would have normally been the start of something like this. Yellowstone and Yosemite have the most encounters with various cryptids, and not just two well known ones. The excellent YT channel, What Lurks Beneath, does a superb job on covering these accounts. Highly recommended. Yes, more of this game is a definite must.
I honestly like the style of how the pilot went and I guess if the game does well they can add a mixture of episodes?
Can’t stand the guy that runs that channel. Can’t remember what he did that pissed me off but I made it so that I’ll never see his videos again. There are other MUCH better storytellers they cover the same material on this site.

my personal favorite is MrBallin. Because of that youtuber I discovered David Paulides. Who also has his own documentary about a few of these cases as well discovering David's own youtube channel.

You have encountered the native legend known as the Deer Woman and she may very well trample you to death. She especially goes after those with bad intentions who are never seen again.
I do a lot of hiking alone.
- one time I was out of town visiting some family in an unfamiliar area to me. On my way I passed what looked like a nature trail. So I had a decent amount of time b4 I needed to be where I was meeting everyone so I turned around and went to the trail. The wooden sign at the road was badly run down looking but I could tell it was a state trail of some sort. So I drove into the forest down an overgrown trail and came to what looked like an old parking area. It was very badly overgrown but u could still tell where to park and where the walking trail started.
I had kind of a bad feeling about it because it was a very unfamiliar area to me, heavily forested, and I was the only vehicle there. But I thought oh well, I check out trails all the time. So I got out of my truck and started walking the trail. About 5 minutes into the forest I realized something unusual. There was no sound. No birds chirping, no squirrels running around, nothing at all. I stopped and stood very still and listened for a bit and literally couldn't hear anything whatsoever. And kinda getting a weird feeling about it I thought about turning back. But decided to continue on the trail because I didn't want to feel like I was being a scared little baby. So I kept walking. As I walked I started to get that feeling like I was being watched. Even as I'm typing this right now the hair on my arms is standing up and I have goosebumps thinking about it. I just had that strong feeling that something was not right.
As I kept walking I could see up ahead the trail split into 2. And at that moment I could see something on the ground that didn't look right. ...
As I got to it I didn't understand what I was looking at but what I saw was disturbing.
Where the trail split into 2 it created a V shape. And in that V shape were bones. All kinds of bones. And they were neatly made into a very weird and interesting design. I honestly don't know how to describe it but it felt very evil. I didn't understand it but i knew I had to get out of the woods. I snapped a picture of it and went to turn around and when I did i caught something out of the corner of my eye. Deeper into the woods just past where the trail splits I could see a hooded figure peering from behind a tree. I froze for a few seconds staring at it. I wasn't sure if it was a shadow or lighting trick but I was freaked out so I ran back towards my truck as fast as I could. As I was running I started hearing weird noises behind me in the woods. And for some reason all I could think about was that any second I was going to be shot with an arrow or something. But anyway I got back to my truck and drove out of there like a madman and went to the get together .
Later on at the get together I was telling one of my relatives who lives somewhat near that area about what happened and showed him the picture and his jaw dropped and he was like.
Wow...that's a really dangerous area. Nobody goes out near those woods. There have been a lot of missing people over the years in that area and there have been reports of witchcraft and witches out that way.
So anyway, that's the story. Happened about 5 years ago.

hiking can be creepy, like finding an enclosed/fenced area with a caravan/trailer with a tree that had 20+ plush dolls hanging from it.

I didn’t want to mention them as I had never heard of the game prior to you guys telling me but the story reminded me a lot of the “missing 411 - the hunted” which is essentially the stories of experienced outdoorsmen going missing without any reason or clues. Absolutely chilling but I am fascinated by it

Fooster have you listened to other 411 videos? There is another documentary like The Hunted that’s about children going missing I think but there are many many videos. The story about the young child that went missing and was found miles away was weird. One survival guy took the same path the child did and could not make the trek in the same amount of time.

He is not a reliable investigator
As someone who volunteered for Search and Rescue for years, I feel that it's worth pointing out that it's more like tens of thousands of Missing persons reports are filed for National and State Parks. The detail that's being conveniently glossed over here is that the overwhelming majority of these people are found. Most are found within hours of the reports being filed, some within a few days, and others are even found and rescued while the report is being filed. The unfound hikers are the one's that make the news. What's more interesting are the statistics on the "Unknown Missing", people who have no family or their families didn't know where they had gone off to, just up and vanishing in the parks. Parks have derelict/abandoned vehicles towed and impounded when there's no sign of foul play. Months or even years can go by before a family or friend's MPR might cause local authorities to check and see if a vehicle that's been impounded belongs to someone on the MP database. Assuming the vehicle hasn't been scrapped or sold at auction. And by then there may be very little in the way of clues to tell what happened to them.
The red curtains and checkerboard flooring is a reference to Twin Peaks fooster, as well as the FBI agent looking into the disappearances.

Majority of bears can run around 30mph (48kph) and faster; Grizzly bears for example can run up to 45mph (72kph).
You're not getting away. Climb, they climb. Swim, they swim. Try to hide behind something, they're going through it.
However; to make games like this scarier. In America, if you're out in the woods and you hear what sounds as if a little girl is being brutally murdered, 50/50 it's more than likely a fox. Other 50% you're gonna wanna get men with guns out in them pines.
If you hear what sounds like an adult woman screaming bloody murder, 50/50 it's a Cougar and it's not going to try to get you drunk. The other 50% -- hell are you even still standing there for?!
You don't need to outrun the bear, just outrun your friends
@@MrVulgax What surprises me is the amount of people in US ....... (you know, the country with the highest number of civilian owned firearms in the world) ...... who don't bring guns with them into the woods. The people who actually carry on a regular basis in general are in the minority. At least from my personal experience.
@@hardlylivin6602 I agree but it depends on the area. A lot of people here in the South, South-East area bring firearms out in the woods. For good reason and majority of that reason is the unknown and people. Animals are the minority in this situation; unless you’re alone then they’re on equal footing with the others.
Lol I carried a gun while on my dads property and I was only barely in the woods about 200 feet from the road. Only ever saw “varmits” but heard coyotes all the time. It was close to the road but still no lights around so it was pitch black at night.
@@hardlylivin6602 Location has a lot to do with it. The only bear species around here are black bears. To avoid them simply make a noise as you go to let them know where you are. With cougars, don't act like prey (no running), travel in herds, and keep vulnerable members of the herd (pets and children) in protected or well watched parts of the herd. It's no big deal.
The actual dangers are from tweakers and addicts, best thing you can do is avoid their territory
I live in an area of the US where bears are common. One very chilling thing to know about bears... They eat you alive. They prefer you alive as they can feast, leave and come back to finish the meal. Leaving you partly alive means the meat will last longer prolonging spoilage. Have a nice day.

That’s only if they’re in a bad mood lol. I saw a video of a brown bear that walked up to a guy sitting by the river. It sat down beside him for a few minutes and then got up and left. Also saw a video of a polar bear that had something ( a tin can I think) stuck in its mouth and came up to a woman’s house for help. It wasn’t aggressive at all. If I remember correctly she ended up calling wildlife services so they could help it.

You should check out "Missing 411". It is where a ton of stories like these come from. It is really freaky, and unreal how many stories are actually out there and unreported. David Paulides is one of the main sources for these stories because he decided to focus all of his work on investigating these stories. Scary stuff man.

Lost hikers commonly suffer from extreme dehydration which causes hallucination, altered mental states, memory loss and decreased mental acuity.

I can't help but wonder if something else would happen if you'd just keep driving past the gas station, like would it trigger an event or would it force you to go to the gas station anyway?
Love the concept of the game, I've listened to both several horror stories about these disappearances and many true stories aswell. I find the ones about children disappearing in the blink of an eye and then being found impossibly far away, completely unscathed and sometimes not even a little dirty, just a week or two later at a maximum and some of the kids telling their parents about strange unnatural humanoids taking care of them while they were gone or not remembering much at all. These stories never seize to amaze me.
The strange stories from children part is unremarkable. Children are far more prone to fantastical thinking and conflation compared to adults, especially during times of fear or trauma.
@@LHyoutube But the fact that the children seem to have been fed and that some are completely clean, even children found dead looking like they've only been deceased for a day when they've been gone for weeks and should've starved to death but aren't even malnourished, that they are found in places that would've been impossible for a toddler to get to and even being hard for experienced rangers with equipment to reach. That's what's weird to me.
@@miamyos - Well look, I'm certainly no expert on these things. But I'd estimate that a great deal of those stories are either outright urban legends, or are exaggerated or misconstrued versions of real events. While I'm sure there are a handful of events that are legitimately like that, it's always useful to remember that the simplest explanations are usually the most likely to be true. So a child managing to find food in an inhospitable environment, or managing to get to a normally inaccessible area, is almost always more likely than some kind of paranormal or alien involvement. There are still enough mysteries and surprises around human abilities to explain seemingly unexplained phenomena.
@@LHyoutube I usually try to logic my way through a lot of stories about disappearances but some are still just too unreal and no logic can explain them.
Of course some may have been spiced up or are urban legends but a lot are also real documented cases.
I choose to enjoy the mystery of it and live on the hope that there are still supernatural things around- it makes life a little more fun!
@@miamyos - Yeah sure, there is no harm in deriving hope or enjoyment from things like the paranormal (or indeed things like religion). It's only when it starts to get in the way of logical thought that it can become problematic. Not that I'm suggesting you are at that point by any means.

Never heard that bear thing before, but I do know that black bears can climb trees, 'cause they're small, so that won't work. -I also heard 'try to run downhill' regarding the big ones, but I only heard that once.
😂 us six hundred pounds is little sure 😂 but yeah they can climb tress thats how you hunt em chase em up a tree with dogs then get out the boom stick

Big bear tend to prefer going downhill at an angle, not straight down, especially when it gets really steep, but I'd never underestimate an individuals ability to do the unexpected.
Better yet, be armed. I'd regret having to shoot a bear, incredible creatures, but at least you be around to regret it.

Black bear: Look and sound big (Unless they are with a cub, in which case, look big but back away)
Brown bear / Grizzly: Play dead or, if you have a large tree nearby that you can climb, do that.
Polar Bear: You're dead.
I would recommend never running from a bear or trying to fight it.

I live in a forest area in the pacific north west and I always love these games where it is set in the woods. And I have been out in the woods at night and it is always really creepy, but oddly peaceful. So please keep making videos on the forest themed games!

Missing 411 the Hunted is definitely a series to check out. It talks about hikers and hunters going missing in the woods. Some of the stories were pretty unnerving.
I really liked the concept of this first part and I agree I would love to see more gameplay as we go through other peoples stories from the forest 🌲🌲🌲🌲

I live in a national forest and black bears are treated as pests for the most part. They get in your trash and break into cars. You just yell at them and they typically run off. One time a bear got into my trash around midnight and I chased it off. As I was cleaning up the mess, I got the feeling something was watching me and pulled out my flash light. It was standing about 20 feet from me just watching. I yelled at it again and it left but that time really unnerved me that something so big was also so quiet that it snuck back in the dead silence of night without me realizing it was there. No street lights either so it was pitch black.

Nightfall makes most of the things scarier and harder I've had a scenario myself when i was going somewhere late night and did a full loop even tho i knew the road good enough still ended up on the starting point
The "bear rule" only applies to bear attacks. If you just see a bear, gtfo as quickly as you can without alerting the bear, down wind if possible. Never run from a bear that has already seen you, and don't turn your back to a bear until you're well out of sight.

I just listened to a podcast where they talked about a guy who went cross country skiing around Lake Michigan. He went missing with no explanation and was presumed dead. He turned up 15 months later, about 40 miles away from his family's home. He had no memory of those months. Last he remembered was being in the snow and feeling lost. Eerie stuff.

I grew up in the country with woods and fields. I used to explore the woods alone often when I was a teenager.
During one time out and a mile or so deep, I was walking and it got very quiet. No birds or insects really all of a sudden.
I got a really bad feeling and goosebumps and the hair on my arms stood up so I turned around and started walking back home.
Along my path about 5 minutes after turning around was a severed deers head on the ground that wasnt there 10 minutes earlier, which I'm certain of. I saw it on the ground from a distance as it was right in my path and I thought it was a paper bag or piece of wood until I got close. Even if it was just a piece of wood or paper bag, Id have been nervous because I already recognized it as something that wasnt there a moment sooner.
I have no idea what it was that left it or if it/they were following or watching me but I had my head on a major swivel after that. Hopefully it was just a panther or something but I dont know why it would have been carrying just a deers head around. This really happened and I'll never forget that.
I'm pretty sure that ranger tower is one of the exact same ones as from the game Firewatch.
I work at a gas station in a small town and night shifts we’re always creepy. Last creepy thing that happened to me there was a clown just strolling by the gas station with a creepy ass smile on its face.
Brown bears or grizzly bears have been clocked at just about 60 miles an hour the fastest man clocked at just over 27 miles an hour you can not out run a bear the've also been known to climb trees so the actual rule for bears should be face the bear and slowly back away do not turn and run that triggers a prey response this applies to grizzly not black bear who a generally more shy and are more likely to run, but again every animal is differnt and may not respond as you would think.

I have a weird story from my childhood about a gas station like that. Was in the middle of nowhere, literally no sign of civilization for miles each way. Run by a couple who seemed like they were homeless. My parents say it was like we entered a different time. And perhaps the strangest things: when we got ice cream, there was mold on them. They were 2 YEARS past the best before date. Very strange place, though I have no memory of it, only heard it from parents.
Missing 411 is definitely something to check out. I want to get the books. There is a couple movies/documentary about a few of them

In most cases, stop and cover works with bears. You have next to zero chance of surviving if you run. If you can't outrun a horse, you can't outrun a bear.

Some of the craziest shite tends to come out of the woodworks. Heard stories of a pack of werewolves, or bigfoot being chased out by a blaze, or even thunderbirds in higher elevated places such as mountainous terrains out West.

I seen this post about a map about the places where a lot of people (usually hikers) tend to go missing throughout the US, which was compared to maps of US caving systems with US wildlife parks. I even searched for an article about it. Its crazy to think that a lot of people that go missing line up with US caving systems, its insane.
That might explain some of the cases but there are many more that are just too weird. Toddler goes missing out if a camper. His “leaving” didn’t disturb the other children or animals that he would have had to climb over to get out the door. He’s found miles away up a sheer cliff out crop at least a hundred feet high. Another case was with mountain climbers. Each one directly below the other. The second to last feels the line below him go slack and looks down. The guy below him is just gone. No body at the bottom, no caves he could have fell in, etc. He just vanished.
